  1. Sox need to get on the curve before they can get ahead, but yes, nice to see more effort
  2. .280/.330/.520 with 40 hrs and 100 rbi I feel like that is pretty realistic and would be great production for us
  3. Yeah I get that he’s a cub and all, but the rules are clearly unfair for the players imo. I have no problem with Bryant fighting for $ from a billionaire owner. But the players did also approve the CBA so is what it is for now. Hopefully there will be a lot of changes coming up
  4. Seriously, who’s willing to ship me a 12 pack
  5. Would love to look up a thread from 2 years ago...1/2 of this board had Covey penciled into the rotation for 5+ years
  6. While I agree that end of the day winning trumps all...BUT, what the Rays front office has done with their payroll is pretty amazing. Their scouting department probably deserves most of the credit, they are the kings of finding the most value other teams can’t. Wouldn’t shock me if this is another 1 of those cases. Of course they aren’t infallible either so this could easily blow up in their faces
  7. Definitely a puzzling trade...but Jose Martinez definitely seems like the type of guy that will go to the Rays and have a career year for no apparent reason. I fully expect .800+ OPS with 40 bombs...for $2 mil + 2 arb years after. It’s just what the Rays do, I’ve stopped questioning them
  8. I thought so too. He’s nowhere near dominant, but he’s been pretty consistently solid. K’s and swing and miss % took a pretty big dip last year, not sure if there’s more to it than we realize? Seems like most teams avoided him for some reason
  9. Rondon to Dbacks for pretty damn cheap. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/01/diamondbacks-sign-hector-rondon.html
  10. I’m surprised it took this long for someone to point out how crazy it is to call Mazara a young stud
  11. Guess I’m alone that I would have been happy with this deal. Sure, maybe the 3rd year would be a waste, but I think Harris will have excess value at 2/16. He’s been consistently getting it done for a long time, I see no obvious reasons that he will suddenly fall off.
  12. Sox are going to have 1 of the most exciting lineups in baseball on day 1 and are only going to add Madrigal shortly... Hahn and co actually proved us wrong. Good for them, I have no problem eating crow. A lot more left to do on the field of course.
  13. According to a writer from mlb.com (Mark Feinsand) Harris is weighing offers with multiple years at 6-7M per year. If we can get him at 2/14 we should have already paid the man. I don’t even have a problem at 3/21. The only obvious issue is his age, but he’s out produced that kind of contract easily. Even if he’s crap the 3rd year, 6-7 mil isn’t a significant enough amount to really hinder the team. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/01/will-harris-weighing-offers.html
  14. Sure, but who’s left in the system as a pitching prospect? Of the guys we won’t be relying on to contribute in the majors this year it’s pretty much only Dunning, Stiever, and the 2019 draft class as decent SP prospects in our system. I’d prefer to not trade Stiever unless it’s in a package for a guy like Hader or someone dominant.
  15. Wonder what prospects we have that are actually tradeable and have any value? If we are going to trade something for a reliver given what's still on the free agent market it better be someone with at least 2 years of control + a good track record. Unless its someone with closer or at least lockdown 8th inning potential l I have a hard time giving up much more than Sheets or Gonzalez as the best prospect for a reliver, MAYBE Basabe. Should be interesting...if what Stone is alluding to is actually correct of course. Maybe there's a bad team out there that would take a chance on Fulmer for a reliever? Something like Fulmer and low level prospect is fine
  16. Lol what a bad post. You sound like you have some weird personal agenda against Collins. In what world do you live in where it’s bad to have too many good, young, and cheap hitters? Abreu and Encarnacion are old, injuries happen, Vaughn isn’t a sure thing, exct...I can ramble off 20 good reasons to not just get rid of a mostly successful prospect that was drafted in the top 10. Just relax and let it play out, no need to rush anything unless someone really blows us away with a trade offer.
  17. If either can be had on 1 year deals I’d be happy with Strop or Rondon.
  18. I really hope the Sox saw something different and think they can make an improvement. Because if we traded 1 of our top 10 prospects to sit a guy on the bench for a year it’s going to be pretty dumb
  19. Yeah if he hasn’t been humbled yet with the way his career came to a screeching hault there is probably a real problem going on between his ears
  20. Before DK and EE I would have been all for Puig. Take the gamble on catching lightning in a bottle with his potential on a team I didn’t think was heading to the playoffs. But if we are in win now mode having Puig as a platoon bat seems like a ticking time bomb not worth playing with. Especially since he’d theoretically be the bad side of the platoon with only facing lefties. Say what you want about him, but we better not have traded Steele Walker to have Mazara as a 4th OF’er for 1 year.
  21. I think the Sox can actually pretty easily carry both all season... 26 man roster= C- Grandal 1B- Jose 2B- Madrigal SS- TA 3B- Moncada LF- Eloy CF- Robert RF- Mazara Bench- Luery, Mendick, McCann, Collins, Engel Thats only 13 of 26 with a pretty versatile bench. SP- Gio, DK, Cease, Lopez, Gio Long/mop up- Fulmer Middle- Marshall, Frye, Cordero, ? (Hamilton/Guerro/Burdi/Free Agent) Set up- Bummer and Herrera Closer- Colome Obviously you can debate if being in the minors is best for Collins in that scenario, but I don’t see roster spots as an issue. EDIT: After all that I realized I forgot EE. So yeah, I guess Collins in the minors is likely to happen. Although a McCann trade wouldn’t shock me.
  22. Robert Moncada Jose Eloy Grandal Encarnacion TA Mazara Madrigal The more I think about it the more I’m actually really excited. I will gladly pay to watch that lineup every night.
  23. Bummer belongs in the 8th...I don’t think any righties in our pen other than Herrera have 8th inning stuff though. I’m comfortable with Fry, Marshall, and Cordero as the primary 6th/7th inning guys, but I think we lack 1 more RH we can count on in high pressure 7/8 inning situations. I’d love to think Herrera will be healthy and better next year, but it’s a risk I’m not willing to take if we are trying to compete with the Twins for the division. I’d like a second option. I agree not overpaying, but I’m not sure anyone left is getting much of a deal anyway. I’d hesitate to give anyone more than 2/12 guaranteed. If we do indeed sign EE I think McCann could be a good candidate to trade for a RP. If he has a role as back up C/DH platoon it makes sense to keep him, but as a pure back up that only starts 20 or so games a year I say maximize whatever value he has in a trade. The A’s don’t have a C...McCann for Yusmeiro Petit or Joakim Soria? I also think Collins could net us a pretty good reliever with a few years of control if we go that route.
  24. I think a reliable RH 8th inning guy is needed. No way we can go into the season thinking Herrera is that guy.
