  1. Kings ransom for all of our relievers combined is laughable....For only 1 we should be happy with any decent prospect we can get.
  2. It needs to start with the front office. As long as Hahn and KW are in charge it won’t matter. There isn’t enough talent on the roster and I don’t see that changing with who we have making decisions. Nor do I trust their ability to pick the right coach. Letting the same 2 people that put the team into a whole try to dig out of it was/is the dumbest thing possible. Really can’t think of many other instances where a front office was given this long of a leash...and ours has hung themselves with that leash multiple times over by now.
  3. Cardinals are said to be willing to trade a young OF’er...I wouldn’t hate taking a gamble on Harrison Bader as long as the price isn’t high. Dustin Fowler is still wasting away hitting well in AAA for the A’s Although he doesn’t fit best position wise...Travis Shaw seems like he could/should be on a roster somewhere Derek Fisher needs a shot that he will likely never get with the stros. I’d check in on Willie Calhoun’s availability with the rangers Same with Ryan McMahon from the Rockies Just a few names I’d check in on to see the availability. I’m all for fishing for reclamation projects/giving guys their 1st real opportunity. At this point we really don’t have a whole lot of ?’s on the 40 man roster that we haven’t already figured out aren’t starting quality players...or anywhere close
  4. It’s too late because he’s 35 and we aren’t close to be a championship contending team. Innings eater probably isn’t the correct term, but I just don’t see the point in acquiring an old, expensive starter on a mediocre team. It’s not going to change anything. I wouldn’t be upset if we do, because it’s not my $, but it wouldn’t be a smart team building move in my opinion. Especially with a cheap owner that is already hesitant to pay free agents.
  5. Not arguing that it def would be a White Sox/KW move to get a guy like Greinkie when it’s slightly too late Im just looking at it from the perspective that I don’t think the team will be close to competing for a championship run next season. So you’d be counting on a 37 year old Greinkie to be a major part of a playoff run in 2021. Not crazy given how he pitches, just not something I’d count on. I do agree that adding a reliable vet arm is a good idea, but 2.5 years at 60+ mil for a guy to be a very good inning eater/hopefully mentor? I just don’t see that as the best option. But also not my $...
  6. I think he can project to a Trevor Bauer esque pitcher...good overall that can show extended flashes of brilliance, but will also be frustrating at times. And I’d be perfectly ok with that projection if it were true
  7. I’d be ok with the 1st 2 moves...but no way on greinkie unless you put the words “a lot” in front of cash. That’s a move to make if you’re a team thinking you’re 1 or 2 moves away from competing for a championship. That’s not the White Sox
  8. Sell the older guys that won’t be on the team in 2/3 years...BUT also see if we can buy a younger guy or 2 with multiple years of control. Obviously this isn’t going to be a very good established player, but I think we should be fishing for reclamation projects for sure. We need more SP’s and probably more OF’ers as well. I don’t think we have enough healthy talent in the organization at either spot to feel comfortable...especially SP’s. Not sure why our front office loves to trout out the same junk we all know isn’t good emough
  9. Palka isn’t a major league player...anybody who says so are probably the same people that were penciling in Delmonico as a long term piece after 2017
  10. I don’t doubt pretty much any team would like to have Luery on their roster...just not sure how many teams in contention he would start for. Is a team going to trade anything significant for a utility guy? Kinda doubt it. He’s probably more valuable to the Sox than what we’d get in return
  11. Because the Sox are a below .500 team that clearly are nowhere near good enough to compete in the playoffs? What’s your plan to make the playoffs? Find a genie lamp? Wish on a shooting star?
  12. Thought we missed out on at least a couple of moves we could/should have made for youngish talent. Domingo Santana is the 1 that jumped out at me at a painfully obvious move we should have made
  13. Mlbtraderumors just put out on article with their top 50 trade candidates.... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/06/top-50-trade-candidates-2019-mlb-trade-deadline.html Colome came in at 17 (although their order isn’t by talent/best players)with this to say: “Though he’s carrying a 2.30 ERA, Colome is unlikely to maintain a .113 BABIP-against. With anticipated regression mixed in, the 30-year-old looks like much the same pitcher he has always been. It’s nice that he has been doing a solid job in the closer’s role for the White Sox, but that’s not going to sway many GMs in this day and age. He’s eligible for arbitration in 2020 but is already earning a hefty $7,325,000 salary. With the White Sox hoping to stay in the race this year and increase their competitiveness next season, there are some scenarios where Colome ends up staying in Chicago.”
  14. Good for you..I’m not telling you how you should/shouldn’t think. Of course I think you’re thinking with your fan heart instead of your head, but we’ll agree to disagree
  15. Hate to break it you, but I don’t give a damn about your personal interests. There’s a bigger picture than a 2nd tier closer on an at best .500 team. And if you can’t understand that Alex Colome is 2nd tier you are either a giant homer or just don’t understand what you are discussing.
  16. Lol “crap he brought valid points, let’s move on to another argument” To answer your question: I honestly don’t really care who the closer the rest of this year would be. If I’m Rick Hahn I’m not making decisions that impact the future of the team because I have delusions of chasing the 2nd wild card. If someone is willing to give you something of value for Colome you should take it. 2nd tiers closers are a dime a dozen as far as I’m concerned. With that said, I won’t be the least bit surprised if Colome stays a White Sox. 1. Because I have 0 faith in our front office. 2. Because, as others have already said, I don’t think a single other team out there is trading for Alex Colome thinking they just fixed their bullpen. I don’t see real value coming back. As for next year, the possibilities are endless. Closers pop up all the time (ie:2005). Hell, look at our own division. If going into 2017 I told you that Shane Green and Brad Hand were going to be legit closers you would have called me crazy.
  17. Exception does not equal the rule...you’re casually mentioning the greatest of all time and Alex Colome in the same sentence. That should ring off a “one of these things is not like the other” alarm in your head. And for Colome it goes beyond FIP...his BABIP is .117 compared to a career .279. His gb% has dropped and his flyball and hr rate has increased (big red flag as the weather heats up in Chicago). And overall batters are barreling up the ball and making hard contact at an alarming rate. All of those factors are the problem, not just 1. Not saying Colome is trash and we should get rid of him for nothing, but to act like he’s an important piece for the future that isnt pretty easy to replace is an equally delusional take
  18. I’d trade Colome no problem...he’s just not a dominant “must keep” type of reliever. I’d trade him very soon before the regression that definitely due comes. I know he’s been solid throughout most of his career, but there is very little to feel confident about in his advanced stats.
  19. With the Mariners seemingly trading any/everyone I wonder if they would trade Marco Gonzales? He’s dirt cheap so they have no real reason to trade him, but he’s 27 and pretty far from an ace. Possibly they’d prefer to gamble on a high upside prospect. Gonzales is a lefty would could comfortably slot into the #4 starter for a few years to come
  20. Well at least the Sox are consistent...I haven’t liked a single 1st round pick since Rodon. Might as well keep it going (not that my opinion really means anything)
  21. His Versatility is nice, but he’s never going to hit enough to be a regular on a championship caliber team (unless we have 7 other great starters) and his D is solid but not anything special. If you can keep him around for cheap as a backup he’s a nice guy to have on the roster, but I wouldn’t pay him much and I can’t see a team giving up anything of value for him
  22. “This is still very much a rebuild” is the exact reason you stop wasting playing time on garbage vets that won’t be on the team next year....very possibly not in the majors.
  23. Kinda surprised to see Frare make the roster. Obviously put up some impressive #’s in the minors, but 3 lefties in the pen? Guessing 1 of Frare or Banuelos gets the boot once we need a 5th starter?
  24. I completely forgot about that in general...but flavum is correct, that doesn’t take affect until 2020
  25. Could be that Banuelos is strictly a Loogy and Covey is the long man. Frare was the only other LH option, I’m good with Banuelos. And with our staff there will likely be a good amount of duds where we need someone to eat 3 or 4 innings...that’s where Covey comes in. Who else would you like to waste in that role?
