QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 08:26 PM) At this rate he's going to be the second best pitching prospect in the system after Kopech by season's end. He's already there in my book
-
In the meantime...just be patient and wait it out. Don't rush it with forced signings to try and compete early, especially when the team clearly still won't be good enough imo.

I can't see Q going to anybody but the Yankees or Astros at this point. From Yankees- Has to start with Frazier pretty much no matter what at this point I would think...Frazier, Andjuar, and Sheffield would be really nice. If not some combo of Adams, Fowler, Abreu, and Clarksin and I wouldn't complain. Wouldn't hate getting Tyler Austin from them either if they aren't going to call him up. So Frazier, Andjuar, and Sheffield or Frazier, Fowler, Clarksin, and Austin Astros- Again, more or less has to start with Tucker. Either Whitley or Perez as the 2nd piece and the either JD Davis or Yordam Alvarez as the 3rd...maybe a lotto pick 19 year as well. Tucker, Perez, Davis, and Jonathan Arauz

Never been a fan and don't have a ton of hope for him honestly. Yeah I know he's still young and raw or whatever, but we should be seeing at least some improvment to his plate approach and there just isn't. 5 years into a career and not being able to walk at a 4% clip just isn't a good sign to me. Hopefully the D can level out and he can at least be league average though.

And with Fulmer's inability to strike anyone out right now I'm not sure how much better he would fare in the pen. Future isn't looking bright for him.
-
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 08:24 PM) Correct. Same syndrome applied to Courtney Hawkins a few years ago. Fulmer not THAT bad, however. Yeah what's most troubling for me is the lack of K's....I honestly never expected him to make it as a starter but did think he had a shot at closer. Now, I'm just hoping he can be any key part of our pen. Of course it is still a bit early and he can improve. Thankfully he is indeed not Hawkings level lost cause.
-
Fulmer has done absolutely nothing to be regarded as a top 9 prospect in our system other than being a high draft pick. Not saying to completely give up on him, but the idea of him being a TOR (top 2) pitcher seems pretty far fetched to me. If he was a 3rd round pick would he even be top 12 in our system based on what he's done so far in his career?

Moncada Kopech Giolito Robert Lopez Collins Hansen Dunning Burger Fulmer Burdi Stephens Adams Micker Basabe That's my top 15

DRAFT TRACKER 2017, and Day One Discussion
TheFutureIsNear replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
I know it could go either way, but I think it's kind of weird that everybody seems to be discounting that Burger could actually lose weight and get in better shape going from a small college to a major league program. I'm sure he will see a massive upgrade in weight rooms and with $ in his pocket and access to dieticians his nutrition intake should get a lot better from when he was a poor college kid. Of course some guys also eat their way out of positions/the league once they get paid, but hopefully we scouted him enough to feel comfortable that he will work hard. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) I know there are mixed views on posters here who are pro and con Bukauskas, but I can't believe he hasn't been picked yet. Almost steal range now. Horrific mechanics. Does pretty much everything you don't want a young pitcher to do. I'll be surprised if he doesn't have an arm injury within 3-4 years. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:23 PM) I don't either but we need a lot of young athleticism in rounds 2-10 Hopefully he's underslot and we can gamble and overpay a high school athlete to sign in round 2. That would pretty much be ideal for me -
DRAFT TRACKER 2017, and Day One Discussion
TheFutureIsNear replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Draft clearly didn't go as we hoped. Burger was the safest bat left and I don't have a problem with it all. -
Haseley Adell Beck Smith White Hall Pratto That's about my wishlist of realistic targets in order, although 2-4 could probably be shuffled in any order.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) Why don't you like JB? Short right hander with a violent delivery...sound familiar? Not saying he can't succeed in the MLB, but I think it will most likely be in the bullpen if he does. That's if he manages to avoid arm troubles...he does pretty much everything you don't want to see a young pitcher do in terms of mechanics. Obviously anybody can hurt their arm pitching, but his odds are exponentially greater with how he throws in my opinion. There's a bunch of breakdowns of him on youtube (good info here if you get past the ridiculous talking skeleton. just start at the 3 minute mark if you watch)

Kendall and Bukauskas are the only 2 picks I'll actually be upset with and seem to be the 2 most mocked to us. Hopefully the mocks are all wrong...
-
Evan White a right handed version of Cody Bellinger? What does everyone think of that comp and the value at pick #11?
-
Add me to the Evan White bandwagon

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) Wouldn't this result in a lot of LH 1b's available after round 1 though? Well do you feel like this is a normal draft class in terms of top 11 talent? Because I sure don't. Like I said, going 1B may be the safe easy way out, but it's a lot better than striking out on another toolsy player with a questionable hit tool. I don't feel like we can afford another 1st round miss. Let's just all cross our fingers and hope Haseley falls and we can all be happy. Hopefully we can agree on that.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) It's not that -- it's how rarely college 1b prospects actually work out. The vast majority of big league first baseman were drafted at other positions and just grew out of them. I'm honestly not about to do all of the research to prove my point, but I feel like your point is a lot more true for RH hitters than LH. If you're LH and have a certain body type 9/10 you're going to play 1B in college, just the way it is. Personally, I don't want to take a risk on a guy who clearly doesn't have as good of a hit tool because of what position they play when we have an organization devoid of capable MLB quality hitters. Clearly I'm in the vast minority on this and that's fine. Trust me, I see the other side of wanting to take the higher ceiling player at a premium position, its not exactly rocket science that they are harder to find and in higher demand. But I personally would rather take the surer thing at 11 in what I feel is a weak top of the draft class and gamble in rounds 2-6.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) Does he go on the 25 man roster or minors Believe he has to go through waivers to go to the minors...which I doubt would be a problem since it seems highly unlikely intone would carry him on their majors roster. Don't see how this is anything anyone could possibly be upset about though. Just a possible reclamation project to have in the minors. This is the type of thing bad teams should do.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) I'd be surprised if Haseley, Beck and Kendall are all still on the board for us. Haseley is unlikely to fall out of the top ten given how good his season was. Although considered a "safe" pick, I would not draft Pavin Smith in the top 10. First base is such an easy position to fill that I would be looking for more upside with a top ten selection. Smith does not have the necessary speed to play in the outfield either. There are currently only 13 1b in the league with an OPS over .800. Only 11 last year at the end of the season. I think many on this board are too worried about position value over getting the best bat available.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) I would be furious if we took Pratto and I don't really understand the logic behind it. If I'm taking a high schooler they better damn well be a short stop, pitcher or center fielder. Because I'm more worried about drafting a good baseball player than an athlete. Like I said, I know it would be unpopular but Pratto has 1 of the best swings and patient approaches. Give me the guy that knows how to hit over an athlete you hope develops.
-
Halsey is definitely the ideal pick for me @ 11. If he's not there I'd take an underslit gamble on either Burger or Prato. I know both wouldn't be popular picks but I just don't like some of these guys being mocked in the 9-12 range.

Draft prospect preview: RHP J.B. Bukauskas
TheFutureIsNear replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not only is Bukauskas a small right handed college pitcher like Fulmer, but they also both have violent deliveries. Jb seems like he has to generate a lot of torque in his upper body/shoulder rather than with his lower body like he should. Could very easily lead to arm trouble later. -
QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) I think the biggest question is if he can stay at third. Usually college third basemen are not the best defenders. Not going to pretend to have seen him play or know much about his glove work but this is from his college profile.... "Also voted as the top defensive third baseman in all of Division I baseball with his selection to the ABCA's Rawlings Gold Glove Team" Don't think I've read a scouting report on him that has concerns about him not sticking at 3rd either.
