  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) Or you need to get a 3rd team involved and move Bregman for someone who is a better overall fit for your team (if you do in fact think his value is tied to SS). I also tend to think Anderson is most valuable at SS. That isn't to say it can't work cause obviously you can have one at 2B or do something else. I don't think this is the case for Bregman though (in the sense that he needs to stick at SS). Nah...you don't worry about where Bregman plays. Just get his bat in the lineup. He has 15+ HR potential (8 in 200 MLB ab's), so he'd be just fine at 3B or even LF. He'd easily be an instant top 4 hitter on our team so I'm sure we could manage to find a spot for him.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) I'm confused about the circumstances. Are they there for winter league? Are they guys who played stateside in the summer? I'm assuming most/all live in DR, but it sounds like they were with the club. It was at a Rangers owned facility in the Dominican. So I'm assuming all Rangers prospects playing winter ball? But still....1 of the weirder stories I've ever read in my life.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) Samardzija was more than happy to talk an extension as long as the White Sox were willing to put a 9 figure deal on the table. We had a ton of threads about that. Frazier is no different. He'd be thrilled if Cinci or Chicago would extend him 2-3 years before he hits FA because he's going to be 31 going to 32 when he hits FA. Get the contract signed and put $90 million in the bank and he'll be happy, I'm quite sure. Yeah I mean the guy was with the team 1 year...the team was bad, he under performed, there was clubhouse drama, and the manager left/got fired. Not so sure I see his motivation for an extension other than what he deems fair market value.
  4. I'm not so sure we should take a Buster Olney report so literally. Everyone has their price, I'm sure the Phillies didn't have plans of trading Ken Giles last year until the Astros threw that ridiculous offer in their face. The off season is fluid. If come March a contender wiffed on what little SP market there is they could easily blow our doors off with an offer for Q that can't be refused.
  5. Hey Rick, does the following package get the Phillies in the door of Quintana talks? Nick Williams Jake Thompson Andrew Knapp Roman Quinn Rhys Hoskins
  6. I'll jump in as Matt Klentak and would like it known the Phillies are buying for the future. What's the asking price for Quintana???
  7. Happy....but nothing to do with the whole Sale is a cancer thing. Just happy because I would have something to look forward to as a Sox fan. Feels like we've been stuck in purgatory for a while now. A fresh start with a fresh crop of young talented players would be very nice. Even if/when they are bad next year, as long as there is progress and a bright future in sight.
  8. Yeah I really think people are underestimating what a few smart trades + 1 bad season could do. I don't even think the full blown firesale is necessary. Get the biggest possible haul for Sale and then trade Melky, Frazier and Robertson between now and the deadline. The haul of prospects + the top 5 pick that would result could turn things around rather quickly. Rebuilding and getting a haul of prospects while still having Q, Rondon, Eaton, Anderson, and Abreu (+Collins, Fulmer, Burdi, Hansen, Adams and Fisher not too far) to build around really isn't the worst place to be. I just wish we had a reason to have faith in our FO, but out of our control so nothing to do but cross our fingers.
  9. Purke Minaya Ranaudo Shields Blake Smith (never even heard of him) Kevin Smith Leury Garcia Avi I'd love to see all 8 of these guys wiped off the roster honestly, and there are a couple more that are borderline. I know every team is going to have some iffy guys at the bottom of the 40, but ours just seem exceptionally bad. I think all of these guys have been around long enough to know what they are, and that's not MLB players. Churn the bottom of the roster and maybe we get lucky...Liriano was a good start, now lets bring in about 5 more guys with some upside and see what happens. I hope we don't pass on our rule 5 pick again too, that annoys me when a team so obviously void of talent doesn't take a risk.
  10. I voted for LA...Probably a package centered around DeLeon, Bellinger, Verugo, Callhoun, and Barnes...maybe more if Frazier is also involved.
  11. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) No way that nasty with shields in it i want seager Seager probably has more value than Sale alone.
  12. I said in another thread that these 3 (benintedni, kopesch, and devers) seem like the most obvious starting point to a deal with Boston. Also, agree that Swihart seems like an obvious change of scenery throw in...that leaves the deal 1 player short in my opinion. Eduardo Rodriguez would be really nice, but I could also see it it being someone like Trey Ball or Brian Johnson.
  13. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) Not for Sale, no. Would need to be Bregman, Martes, Tucker, and someone. Unless someone like McCullers would be included in the trade. lol no way we would get all 3 + for anyone. Completely unrealistic
  14. Surprised so many people are down on Houston as a trade partner. Maybe they lack the huge name at the top (unless Bregman is involved), but I think they have a lot of young talented pieces to give us that are close to or already MLB ready. Something along the lines of... Kyle Tucker, AJ Reed, Joe Musgrove, David Paulino, and Teoscar Hernandez doesn't interest anybody?? I know Reed and Hernandez didn't exactly light it up in their 1st taste of action, but neither do a lot of guys. I'd be perfectly happy with this deal.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 07:43 PM) No way does Boston give up that much Maybe the 6th guy would be too much to ask but I don't see the 1st 5 being unreasonable to believe that's the package after several teams bidding. If Boston intends to keep JBJ, Betts, Bogarts, and Moncada then the package STARTS with Benintendi, Devers and Kopesch. If not then I don't see how there won't be a better offer. Swihart has very little value at this point, a change of scenery is obviously best for both parties. So Edgardo Rodriguez is the tipping point that would keep Boston from acquiring Sale? Highly doubt it.
  16. Benintendi Devers Kopesch Eduardo Rodriguez Blake Swihart 1 of Jake Cosart, Deven Marrero, Trey Ball, Christian Vasquez, or Brian Johnson To me this still seems like the most likely outcome if a Boston deal were to happen. I know some here might think it's a little light, but I'd be happy with this haul. This + smart moves with Melky, Frazier, and Robertson and we could be setup nicely for a quick turn around in my opinion. No need to move Q, Eaton, and Abreu just yet
  17. A lot of confidence in Robertson here....not from me. If someone is willing to take on the entire contract for any kind of decent prospect I would do it. If not I have a feeling we will be seeing a very mediocre Robertson try and close out games for a very bad team the next couple of seasons.
  18. The franchise hasn't won a playoff series in a decade +....Seriously, how much worse can it get? Is the team losing 95 games instead of 85 really going to affect your life? Blowing it up and getting worse is unfortunately about the only way we are going to get better in the future. How many more years do you need to see the FO try to piece together a team around this core and fail? Seeing that for another year or 2 is what I'm afraid of personally.
  19. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) If no Urias this deal is a failure. I think it would be dumb to diminish the package we could get just to hold our for Urias. He's going to be valued at a seriously high price, as he should, which is going to hurt what the rest of the deal looks like. With a serious lack of talent all the way down the organization I'd rather see us get 3 guys that can help soon than just Urias. That, and I can definitely see LA just outright refusing to deal Urias...
  20. Yasiel Puig Jose DeLeon Cody Bellinger Alex Verdugo Alex Wood Austin Barnes Brock Stewart Willie Calhoun Enough?
  21. I have 0 faith that this team will fully rebuild. Maybe they will attempt to add some new younger blood, but full firesale mode? I seriously doubt that.
  22. Castro and Logan as a rebuilding team? Sure. Beltran? Absolutely not. $14M is a good junk of change, spend that on someone under the age of 40. Makes no sense for either side, no way Beltran would willingly end his career on a bad team that is rebuilding.
  23. My question is does anybody think trading Q + a smart signing or 2 of midtier free agents would get us into legit playoff contention? Or is it unrealistic to think a package of young players would lead to instant success? Like if we got Benintendi, Travis Shaw, and Eduardo Rodriguez (+a couple top prospects) + sign Jason Castro and Carlos Gomez would you feel comfortable going for a playoff run like that? Or don't sign anybody and keep trading guys off?
  24. As of right now there are 139 official free agents... http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-offs...g-world-series/ who are some of your favorite (realistic) targets out of this initial bunch? Not a whole lot to be inspired about there honestly. There are a whole bunch of mediocre stop gaps out there that I kinda hope we avoid, but have a feeling the FO won't. I can definitely see them overpaying for some sort of combo of signing a Brandon Moss/Adam Lind/Pedro Alvarez for DH and then Castro/Suzuki/Wieters for C and still being very mediocre. Hopefully I'm wrong.
  25. With the amount of holes this organization has and the lack of a huge budget it makes 0 sense to go after Cespedes. 1 player isn't changing anything.
