Your 2018 Chicago White Sox Opening Day Lineup
BlackSox13 replied to Ducksnort's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) The off season starts with Hahn trading Avi Garcia and Abreu for more prospects. This will be done in the name of a rebuild. I see it as more of a salary dump to get this team to have the lowest payroll in MLB. All this translates into more profits for JR. This leaves the team with the following lineup: 1B=Gillaspie, 2B=Moncada, SS=Anderson, 3B=Davidson, LF=L. Garcia, CF=Engle, RF=Delmonico, C=Smith. Starting Rotation Rodon, Shields, Lopez and Holland. (Hahn resigns Holland thinking that he'll have a rebound year) Bullpen= The same group who are in our present bullpen. After Rodon gets off to a good start Hahn will sign him to a contract extension. After the All Star break Hahn will then trade Rodon to the Cubs for more of their prospects. Nobody ever talks about this but Hahn is a life long Cubs fan. He never attended a White Sox game in his life until he started working for them. And finally for a job well done (Last place team with the lowest payroll=enormous profits) JR will reward Hahn with another contract extension, 1- Abreu isn't going anywhere. He's worth more to the team than what the team would receive for Abreu via trade. 2- if it's about lining JR's pocket then why did JR just spend 28m on a 19 prospect? 3- Rodon's agent is Boras. Please tell me the last time a Boras client signed an extension with four years of team control left. 4- Rodon won't be traded to the cubs because that system has been tapped. What do the cubs have left to offer? 5 what does it matter if Hahn grew up a cubs fan? It has nothing to do with his job. Does every player grow up a fan of the team they play for? No. Stone spent many years in the cubs broadcast booth but I didn't hear you complain over that. Why? Because it doesn't matter. 6- if this rebuild continues its course, it's ahead of schedule. If, in a few years, we see the rebuild is a success, Hahn absolutely should get an extension. -
TA has been looking much better the last few weeks. The kid is smiling and having fun again.
-
Surprised this game is still 5-1. Holland's stuff looks flat.
-
Holland vs Texas. Tank on....
-
Lucky for Delmonico that he hit that with no outs so he has time to catch his breath.
-
The Delmonico show.

Giolito up to the Sox, Kopech to Charlotte, Hansen has to be on the move to Birmingham. Can't think of a WS pitcher that should get the call over Hansen. Anyway. Really happy to see movement in the minors. Haven't seen Giolito pitch yet so I'll be watching his Sox debut for sure.

I wouldn't look too much into the first year college players. The college season began in February so they probably started preparing around the first of the year. Been a long season for the college kids.

Reynaldo getting the call and the ball on Friday

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) Funny thing is, before the steroid era, many played until they were 40 or so. I personally think the big thing is velocity. It's one thing a 38-42 year old hitting 92 MPH gas, it's another if it's 97. And pitchers topping off at 92 better have pinpoint control or some great offspeed stuff. Pitches are being thrown a lot faster than they used to be thrown IMO. I was watching a game on ESPN recently and they touched on this. There are more pitchers throwing mid to high nineties now more than as starters and relievers. That's going to make it very difficult on the aging veterans that don't react as quick as they did when younger. When Paulie first came up he could just react and turn on an upper nineties fastball without a problem but later in his career he had to cheat and guess fastball to keep up with those. -
Good for Marlins' fans. Jeter is a smart baseball guy and an improvement over Loria.

Just pretend this post says all the nice things others have already said about Abreu. Dude is just awesome. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) Wow is beck awful. This pen is amazing Beck is the athletic supporter of this rebuild and quest for the 2018 #1 overall draft pick. He's just doing his part. Good god WTF is that music?

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) Really happy with Anderson lately. Playing well. Yeah, I agree. Wasn't trying to take a shot at Timmy, it's just true that he doesn't walk much. TA looks like he's having fun again.
-
TA walked. Now you know Ross is having a rough night.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 08:38 PM) It's too bad the Sox aren't contending because he'd probably be September call up. Didn't Miguel Cabrera pull off something similar the year he was called up to crush the hopes and dreams of cub fans?
-
For me, Leury has to be the biggest surprise this season. He's the kind of player the twins had in their pesky piranha' days.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 08:35 PM) Jesus christ man Eloy is something else. Yabba dabba doo!
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) Jimenez is the s*** One of the things I've loved to rub in the faces of cub fans is the Karchner for Garland trade. Despite Q being a good pitcher, I think this trade might top that.
-
Eloy continues to absolutely punish pitchers. Stephens looking good.
-
If Leury can repeat his success next year as a starter, then the idea of an extension makes sense but not at this point. Revisit the idea after the '18 season.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Could we could trade him for anything? Is there any value left or should they just outright cut at this point? Doubt a struggling 22 year old with loud tools is worth much. FU Hahn, for not trading Moncada at the deadline and getting something for him while you could. f***, now we'll never get anything for this pathetic and failed prospect. Makes me wanna stuff my f***ing face with pepperidge farm.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) A guy like Delmonico becoming a good "DH" to me speeds up the window we can contend. Similarly, Avi actually being good, also speeds up the window. That gives you two solid complimentary position players, before bringing on guys who you are hoping to be "stars". We need that...depth matters. You hope Davidson / Leury others maybe emerge too (even if you get guys who show more as being platoon/bench guys..that can help). Of course we also need to hit on some of the top guys as well. Agree with ya 1000%. We know that not all of the prospects will become major leagues and we know the Sox can't live on the FA market so they will need some current players to become solid contributors. Every current player that sticks is one less player in the future that will have to be traded for or bought on the FA market. On a side note. It's great to see smiling faces and guys having fun in the dugout. Abreu has been cracking me up with his taking out the trash bit. Despite the losing, these kids are having fun.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) This is the point of the current bullpen. Take 7 random minor league arms, throw them at a wall, see what sticks. It's rebuilding 101. Open tryouts, which is the point of clearing out veterans in the first place. BTW, Wite. Good to see you back but I must ask, have you been drinking?
