QUOTE (shakes @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) I think the article was legit written by a high school kid. I don't think he has the inside track on Melky's value. Perhaps Merkin was with the team in Oakland. Merkin enjoying some California dreaming.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) At some point the Braves need to acquire veteran pitching. Maybe a tad early, but with Qs control, the move makes sense to get an TOR arm through 2020. They can afford to give up talent for a guy like Q. Yep, it worked for Texas when they traded for Hamels in a similar manner.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) No rumor or anything but just a solid read I came across. May piss off some people on this site (well, just Greg). https://theloopsports.com/2017/07/05/melky-...ed-trade-piece/ This is clearly a propaganda fluff piece by Merkin the Merlin to give Sox fans false hopes of trading Melky. Oh, and this rebuild is NOT a rebuild. That is all... Good to see Melky has some value. Should be interesting to see what teams show interest as we get closer to the deadline.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) Brinson, Ortiz and Phillips would be a strong return in my opinion Yeah it would. If the Sox received Brinson and Phillips in the return I would fudge my huggies with delight. Those two outfielders would give the Sox two legit AAA outfielders to eventually call up instead of the rotating clown circus of 4A players we've been seeing.

QUOTE (Username @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) The issue is they absolutely need a cost-controlled starter for the next few years. Arrieta isn't the same guy, Lackey is toast, and Lester will be 34. That's not a rotation you can win a World Series with going forward. Plus, most of these guys are blocked. Calendario has literally nowhere to play. Almora can't get on the field enough. Hell, even Happ doesn't have a full time position with the log jam the Cubs have in the outfield. Maybe they won't move Eloy. But they'll most certainly move Calendario and/or some of even the major league pieces. Otherwise those assets just waste away. All good points. The cubs farm is thin on pitching so at some point the cubs will have to trade some hitting assets for pitching as well as sign one or two on the FA market if they want to have a contending starting rotation in the future. That rotation has already peaked and begun breaking down. Time for an overhaul on that rotation and Q would be a great place to start, not that I'm counting on a Sox/cubs trade to actually happen. Theo has to be pretty desperate though.....

Need the cubs to make a trade to put pressure on the Brewers.

Hansen at 75 pitches with 39 strikes through 3 innings. Seeing how well he's pitched so far I'd chalk today up as one of those days the pitcher just doesn't have it. An error probably didn't help him either.

Kahnle's cheap salary and years of control should interest the Yanks quite a bit. Especially with Betances struggling they need the help. Would love to see a bidding war come down to the Yanks and Nat's for White Sox relievers.

Take the best offers ( if there are any ) and if that don't work there's always the hope of them getting picked up off of waivers in August. There's no reason for keeping either around beyond this season and knowing the Sox are rebuilding ( tinfoil hat ) I don't see why they would want to return.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 06:06 PM) I imagine Verlander's contract and asking price only helps the Sox in the Quintana market. Thought the same thing when I read that the cubs were interested in Verlander. Cubs could be thinking Verlander is a cheaper option than extending Arrieta.
-
I'm thinking lesser trade chips like Melky/Frazier/Shields go first since they can be had for cheap so I'll guess Shields goes first with the best trade chips not moving until closer to the deadline.

Shame last nights Charlotte game ended up delayed. According to the box score Fulmer was looking pretty good. Man, watching this season for Giolito, Fulmer and Lopez has been a roller coaster ride. Not worried about Fulmer or Lopez since I think both have the potential to become high energy closers if things don't work out for them as starters. Giolito is the one that concerns me a little but he's just 23 so he has time to come around.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) It's going to be an ugly 2nd half of the season for him while he builds up his innings count. It's really not too surprising since this will be his first full season of pitching. Growing pains, that's all.

Not a good outing for Kopech so far.
-
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 08:03 PM) Dunning, Hanson, Kopech. Keep hope alive. I'm more excited about these three than I am about Giolito, Lopez and Fulmer.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) The Rays are at the edge of contending too, which makes it more difficult to sell. Cheap contract and being contenders makes Archer more valuable to the Rays. I think it would take more to pry Archer from the Rays than it would to get Q. Even better for the Sox.

White Sox decline to tender Tyler Flowers and Jacob Turner
BlackSox13 replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So Tyler is tearing up a league where half the team's are rebuilding. Impressive... -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) No way, this is more like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0OkR986LL4 Derp! That looks more like Rizzo running around looking for relievers.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 06:46 PM) I love what Adolfo has been doing this year. Very encouraging Hansen: 3 IP, 2 H, 4 K, 0 R Yeah, Adolfo has been a nice surprise. Love what Hansen has done so far. Thinking he finishes the season in Birmingham for a few starts.
-
Adolfo HR. Hansen looking good through two.

This isn't trying to catch lightning in a bottle, it's an attempt at a Doug Flute hail Mary.

Is this off-season the time to add a cheap 1b?

Pedro Alvarez ! -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) Yep. There were a lot of non believers in Q when he first started doing good. It's come full circle now. Yep. I remember how folks were eager to trade Q for Castro and the following year it was Q for Puig.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) But can he stick at 3B in MLB? Si, muy bueno.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) This whole board is pointless- ranking prospects, rooting for wins or losses, wanting a top 5 pick...it doesn't matter, but it's interesting to follow for some. Plus, Chili is often for making this thread every year when the suckdom begins. Sadly for us fans, this thread has become inevitable every year.
