  1. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ May 27, 2017 -> 10:22 PM) Lucky for me I find baseball the most watchable of all the major sports, so I can watch any games that are on and I root for several teams without getting to worked up. Living in Los Angeles I can root for the Dodgers. My wife is a Yankees fan and we've lived in New York so I know I'm not supposed to but I do root for the Yankees. Also I go by my Dad's principle that he taught me: "We root for two teams, the White Sox, and who's ever playing the Cubs. This helps me get through the White Sox down years and I'm actually excited as to where they are headed. I go by that same principal. It's not that I hate the cubs, I just like every other team more than the cubs.
  2. Shame there's no room in WS for Booker. Dude deserves to be moved up.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ May 25, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) Thanks for pointing that out. Originally on the milb scoreboard, it did have Lopez going today, but clearly that was incorrect. Milb got me on that as well which is why I looked up Lopez's starts. I'll go ahead and guess Lopez as Covey's long and overdue replacement.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 25, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) Definitely will be Lopez tomorrow, otherwise why would he be skipping his scheduled start today when Charlotte themselves have a double-header? Lopez last pitched 6 innings on the 21St so he shouldn't have been scheduled to pitch today, should be tomorrow on regular rest.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 25, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) Didn't the Sox reject because they wanted Musgrove? I would easily subtract Martes out of that deal if it meant 2 other bats came back. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 25, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) I thought we were hearing that the Stros wanted to include neither Tucker or Martes, however? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) That's what I remembered. The package was awful. Maybe Fisher, Paulino, and Reed as headliners? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) Thinking back I want to say that Tampa turned down that offer from Houston for Archer. (Tucker, Martes, etc) These posts remind me of just how many rumors were flying around over the winter. It was rumored the Pirates offered three prospects and I think two of them were Glasgow and Newman but don't know the third piece. This brings me back to arm chair general managing, we don't know exactly what was offered so we don't know if the Sox should have traded Q last winter. Coulda woulda shoulda.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) The Houston offer that slipped out was pretty lackluster. If that was typical of what was offered, I take the risk of bringing back Q as well. Can't remember what the offer was exactly , all could find from Google was somethng from sports mockery ( yeah, I know ) that said Martes, Tucker and Paulino were offered. If true, that's a good offer albeit not optimal as far only getting one hitter back. Solid offer but the would urge passed as well. QUOTE (bmags @ May 25, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) I think I missed this, can you point me to it? Best I could find was this. Please don't shoot the messenger. http://sportsmockery.com/2017/01/houston-a...ntana-revealed/ QUOTE (bmags @ May 25, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) Yeah I also say it as people shouldn't freak out if we draft a pitcher in the first this year. There's limited hitters worthy of going high in the draft so I'm expecting a pitcher to be honest. I hope a hitter like Haseley or Pavin falls but not counting on it. If the BPA @ #11 happens to be a pitcher that's fine with me. I would rather take a pitcher over Adell.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ May 25, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) Also doesn't look like we have too much pitching does it. No, it really doesn't and in my post I assume Lopez and Fulmer will be ready to step into the rotation by 2018. If one or both struggle, it will look even worse. I prefer to trade Q to help the rebuild along but Q's silent veteran leadership and experience could help the young guns so having him around still helps the rebuild.
  8. Easy to say the Sox should have traded Q last winter but what exactly were the players offered for Q? We don't know, just the reported rumors and that's all. Hard to play hindsight without knowing what exactly has been passed up. Let's say the Sox hold onto Q. MiGo, Holland and Pelfrey will be gone and with any luck so will Covey. Giolito obviously needs more time so we're currently looking at a 2018 rotation of Q, Shields, Rodon, Lopez and Fulmer with Giolito as #6 on the depth chart. Given the struggles Giolito has had and that Kopech needs all of this season and the next to build up innings, having Q around for another year doesn't sound so bad. I won't complain if the Sox have Q in their rotation next year. Could end up a blessing.
  9. QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 24, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) AL East, NL Central and NL West are shaping up to be very tight races this season. I could see suitors emerging from any of those divisions for Quintana around the deadline. Forgot about the NLW. Hopefully AZ keeps the pressure on the Dodgers and maybe LA jumps into the Q bidding. Shame AZ has little to offer, they could use a starter.
  10. QUOTE (striker @ May 24, 2017 -> 07:13 AM) Q will return a top 20 prospect. It will be one of: Jimenez, Robles, Rodgers, Martes, Devers, Brinson If Price isn't producing by the trade deadline, my money would be on Q to Boston. Devers would be a very nice addition to 3B. Boston has been hanging with the Yanks despite Price being out so if Price returns healthy he should provide a nice boost for Boston. Could put pressure on the Yanks to counter Price's return by making an offer for Q. If Price does not return then I welcome an ALE bidding war between Boston and NY, which I think the Yanks would win. Need the Brewers to stay relevant in the NLC to keep pressure on the cubs. Hopefully both teams will be interested in Q.
  11. Fulmer still has the same stuff he had coming out of college. Difference is that AAA hitters aren't swinging at the stuff out of the strike zone like the college hitters were.
  12. Austin Beck is expected to be there @ #11. Wonder how the Sox feel about him.
  13. Fulmer didn't get much help from his defense but he's settled in, so far 5IP 2H 3R 1ER 2BB 2K 2HR.
  14. Things are shaping up nicely, IMHO. The Yanks, Boston and Baltimore are in a tight race with 2/3 interested in Q. Then there's the Brewers (rumored interest in Q last winter ) leading the cubs and cards, both of which need pitching too. Would love to see the Brewers become serious bidders. Especially if the Brewers were willing to part with Brinson and Phillips. Yanks, Boston, Brewers, Cubs and cards have the prospects to trade for Q so that's a good start. Plus you never know with teams like the Rockies and Dodgers so if Smeagol Luhnow insists on keeping his most precious prospects, that's fine with me. Personally, I really like what the Yanks, Brewers and Cubs have to offer.
  15. I'm speechless about the Manchester bombing. As for Leavitt, what a f***ing moron.
  16. QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 22, 2017 -> 08:12 PM) Nightengale reported the Nationals were set to send luzardo and ward to the sox for Robertson, with the six picking up half the contract, but financial terms could not get agreed upon. You would have to think Robertson's stock is up from the off-season due to strong performance? I read that earlier and I laughed at myself for the proposals I've thrown out there. Ward is an interesting 3B prospect though. Hopefully the Nat's desperation combined with Robertson off to a good start will force the Nat's to increase their offer if they go after Robertson again. Wonder if the Sox could land Ward and one of Soto/Kieboom?
  17. Collins 1-1 2B R Kanny delayed
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) White Sox confirmed it's Robert as in Robert Kennedy but, Badler today said the announcers mostly said it as Robert too, it just got confused when people assumed it was Robert due to it being of norman origin/latin/french pronunciation likely in Cuba. Thank you sir. Robert it is.
  19. QUOTE (Soha @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) If the Nats would do this trade, you say yes 100 times out of 100. But I don't think they would even consider it. They need immediate help in their bullpen, not a minor league pitcher - even if he's close. Because he might have a few years of bumps and bruises to start his MLB career. Their new closer is a minor league pitcher from the '15 draft class, Koda Glover. I think it's a safe speculation that a team desperate for bullpen help that just named a rookie their closer would see plenty of value in Burdi. Adding Robertson and Burdi to Glover has to be enticing to Rizzo right about now. But it would cost, more than Robles alone.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Robles is better in ranking now than anything Giles returned so it would represent a strategy to utilize a ceiling lockdown reliever for a potential 5 tool CFer. I would make that deal. I like Burdi though, I think he'll be great. But Robles if he was awesome would be >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Burdi No doubt about it. I guess I'm basing my POV off previously discussed proposals in this thread. A few of us have liked the idea of Robertson for Soto + Kieboom. Let's say that's a fair offer ( no idea if it is ), adding Burdi to Robertson should net at least Robles + one of Kieboom/Soto. But I admit, this is based on a hypothetical scenario that I'm not sure is realistic. Major spitballing on my part.
  21. Latin based languages can be so damn confusing. Anyone hear how the Latino sports writers have been pronouncing his name? Latino's would have a much better idea on the correct pronunciation.
  22. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) Robles is a five-tool talent who, if he reaches his ceiling, would have WAY more value than Burdi ever would. It's Washington who would say no to that deal, not the Sox. Would love to have Robles but not at the expense of adding Burdi to the deal. Burdi presents two options going forward, 1) he could be the future Sox closer 2) he could net a Giles type haul in another year or two that would easily net more value than Robles currently presents, which admittedly is alot. Trading Burdi now, IMHO, would not exactly be the best way to maximise his trade value. That said, if the Nat's were willing to offer Robles along with one of Kieboom/Soto and a lesser third piece for Robertson/Burdi, I'm all ears.
