  1. Cutting ties with Frazier wouldn't be the worst thing. There was no market for him over the winter and the injuries/illnesses haven't exactly helped his trade value. Not saying Frazier is done, just that the Sox have other options to give at bats to and with Frazier being a FA at the end of the season, there's really not much worth holding onto. As for Abreu, can someone explain how he ended up in this thread? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/abreujo02.shtml Keep knocking Abreu but his numbers are pretty damn good considering the start he got off to. Funny how people ignore two weeks of a hot streak to focus on the cold start Abreu began the season with. His numbers are solid.
  2. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 8, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) Not sure how much it says about Trey Michalczewski's prospect status that he's hitting below Courtney Hawkins in the lineup. The Hawk just struck out swinging and is very close to a 60% strikeout rate this year through 79 plate appearances. The worst strikeout rate in Southern League history (minimum 70 PA) is 45.1%, set in 2014 by... any guesses? I think Hawkins and Barnum are on their way out of the organization once WS players start pushing for a call-up. It's become obvious they aren't good ball players. Good grief has that Barons offense been bad. Really no players doing anything much so far this year.
  3. I have no problem with Covey taking it on the chin every fifth game until an injured pitcher comes back or someone at Charlotte looks ready. I think the rule 5 status on Covey gets over stated a bit. A healthy Sox rotation (Q, Shields, Holland, Rodon, MiGo) has no room for him and neither does a healthy bullpen. He's still up due to injuries and young talent not being ready. When guys come back from injury and young pitchers push for a call-up, Covey will be one of the first to go, regardless of his rule 5 status.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 3, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) Kahnle needs to be locked up ASAP as well. Buyout a couple of free agent years with him and Leury and Avi, and Narvaez. Who knew we were watching perennial all stars last year? Holland and Gonzo have shown they both are worthy of a 5 year deal. They are trade bait once Giolitto, Lopez, and Kopech come up to dominate. I was thinking extend Shields, but now it would be prudent to wait. Davidson has probably cost himself a few million the last week or so, but if he's willing to sign a team friendly deal along the lines Eaton signed for, wow. Hahn will have unreal talent, and a mountain of money to play with. Nicely done.
  5. Well this thread came outta nowhere. Didn't realize fans were still suffering from post traumatic Dunn syndrome.
  6. QUOTE (Donaldo @ May 2, 2017 -> 08:03 PM) Likely not until after the All Star break... no need to rush him. Hopefully he'll eventually learn how to hit in Chicago. If Hansen continues to put up the numbers that he is at Kanny, moving him to WS wouldn't be rushing him at all. It would be a due promotion based on performance.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 2, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) I have had him pegged for getting dealt to an AL team eventually. Yep, I'd bet Schwarber is dealt for pitching help and Happ will come up and take Schwarber's place.
  8. Good to see Dunning up to WS. I don't think Hansen will be far behind.
  9. QUOTE (daggins @ May 2, 2017 -> 04:40 PM) Yeah Gonzo or Holland seem to match up pretty well with their needs. Agreed, if Holland and MiGo pitch well they will be gone first. Half season rentals like them won't cost top talent in a trade so there should be a market for both come June/July. Shields needs to get back, stay healthy and pitch decent and he might be easily moved to a team looking for a pitcher that won't cost much in prospects or money. The real story will be the Q rumors which will probably be nuts and should be alot of fun.
  10. Teams aren't buying right now which makes even the best players worthless in trade value until a team desires them. Can't force a team to make a trade they aren't ready to make. Renteria will be fine with the inevitable changes in the future. If the veterans don't like the rebuild then tuff s***, it's about the team logo on the hat and uni, not the name on the back of the jersey. As for buy/sell in July, just go ahead and sell. There's no future with impending free agents such as Melky, Frazier, MiGo, Holland, Swarzak so why bother? How confident are we in a post season rotation of Q, Holland, Shields, MiGo and Rodon? #1 looks great but it's pretty shaky after him. All that said, I really have enjoyed watching the Sox win game this year. Been fun so far.
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 08:01 PM) At this point I honestly can't tell if you're intentionally trolling or not. Even after Abreu heats up, it's not good enough. This thread is a total troll job.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Alec has a no no through 5. Throwing strikes too.
  13. Guerrero's walk rate is way down from last year so throwing more strikes should lead to more hits and K's.
  14. Hope Eaton has a speedy recovery. Always liked his way of playing the game.
  15. Happy to see Sale pitching so well but still happy with the trade. Both teams got what they were after.
  16. s***, and I had hopes of good pitching performances tonight. Hopefully Cooper has a nice outing.
  17. Rochester @ Charlotte 6:05 CT Lopez pitching Jacksonville @ Birmingham 6:30 CT Cooper pitching Hickory @ Kanny 6:05 CT Hansen pitching Winston-Salem @ Wilmington PPD/Rain http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20170422 Could be a fun evening following the starts of Lopez, Cooper and Hansen.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) Considering Covey is a Rule 5 draft pick, and as such would have to be offered back to the A's if sent down, I think he's among the safest pitchers on the entire roster. They aren't winning anything this year. They are probably going to keep throwing him out there. Buzz kill!
  19. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) Same time, next year? Three's a charm. Talk about synchronized trolling. I wonder if it's something astrological...
  20. Not concerned. As someone else pointed out, Abreu is a bit if a slow starter. I remember Alexei being a slow starter to the point he wasn't batting his weight but by the end of the season he would have a .270+ average.
  21. Bummer. Not looking forward to Covey and Pelfrey in the same rotation.
  22. I feel for Tilson. Poor guy has not been able to catch a break.
  23. Those Barons' hitters are making it real easy to look at promoting a few Winston-Salem hitters despite being early in the season.
  24. QUOTE (beautox @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 07:29 PM) I have a hard time seeing the sox pass up on Adam Haseley if he is available he has major helium and is putting himself in a similar situation as benintendi, fits with the timeline and recent philosophy of polished college hitters that can take a walk. He could be on a fast track and get a cup of coffee in a year. Would really suck if we get teased again like with Benintendi getting picked right before the Sox pick.
