Absolutely love the things I've been reading about Lopez's outing Friday. Pretty high praise coming from Braun. Well done Reynaldo! As for Q in the WBC. Maybe the rest of the baseball world has finally awoke from its slumber to realize Q really is good enough to be called an Ace.

Ugh, Miller products (except for Coors ) are so bad and the same with Buttwiper, just nasty. Definitely like the addition of Modelo, that's just good stuff! A cold Modelo on a warm day is a beautiful thing.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

This one is good for a chuckle. http://www.nj.com/yankees/index.ssf/2017/0...te_sox_for.html -
I'm all for a Giles type trade and haul but there's other things that need to happen first before the idea of trading Burdi can become a sensible one.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) That's probably the most encouraging quote we've seen all offseason. It doesn't mean anything's going to happen, but that's the most smoke I think we've actually seen. The Yanks look as though they want to see how their team performs before committing to a trading a haul of prospects for Q. I am curious if the news on Price has made Cashman take a step back to rethink his teams' chances of hanging with Boston this year. Best case scenario is Tampa and the Yanks stay competitive into June/July. This would keep Archer on the Rays and off the trade market add keep the Yanks in the mix for Q. -
QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 06:22 PM) Yeah I rather Q just stay on the Sox and when the time comes fleece some team. Yep. Q has a good history of staying healthy and pitching well so holding onto him is a good bet. There will be a market for him when June and July comes around. The rumor mill will be loaded with trade speculation about Q so that should be fun keep up with.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 06:05 PM) Knock on wood, but Q acing his way through the WBC would be stellar to watch and for his trade value. A hot start from Q and if the right teams (Yanks, Boston, Astros, Pitt, Cards, Dodgers, cubs) become desperate enough in July, the return on Q might meet or exceed the Sale trade. Ha ha, just imagine all the hindsight posts we would see.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) I really hope Hahn doesn't think that way. One or two seasons of Quintana when/if our team is finally competitive is not worth the prospect haul he could land right now IMO. I don't see it either. IMHO, the only way it works is if Hahn can get sizeable hauls for Robertson and Jones in July. Frazier won't bring much of anything unless third baseman start dropping like flies around the league. Keeping Q is possible but not something I would count on. -

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

Well, today we hear about the Sox scouting the Yanks so Friday evening I'm expecting to hear about Yankee scouts in attendance for Q's start against team USA. Should be interesting to see what other teams' scouts will be in attendance. I would think the usual suspects we've been reading about all winter long. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) I know everyone is down on Mateo but I think he is someone that could easily be tried in CF and becomes a less risky prospect. Agreed, I'm one of the few that is still high on Mateo and like the idea of trying his speed/arm in CF. I'm not entirely sold on Frazier due to his low BA and high K rate. Not going after Frazier could help net an additional non ranked prospect from a deep farm. I could be happy with Rutherford, Mateo, Andujar, Fowler and Montgomery. Heck, for those five the Yanks can have Q and Robertson. -
Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) No, but usually if you invest $60 million on a 21 year old many think is the best prospect in baseball, that $60 million investment will be more than enough if the other stuff isn't enough, to keep him around, and off any table re: trades. They paid that money for his cheap seasons. You can look at it another way. The 3 years on Sale's contract cost them an extra $62 million. So he is a $30+ million a year guy in reality now. The price for the bargain vanishes. Between what the paid Mocada and what the owe Sale, Boston shells out $100 million for 3 years of service. I do have a feeling he wouldn't have been available had Dombrowski been the one who signed him. Agreed and I like the way your seeing this. Essentially, Sales surplus value from his cheap salary was negated by Boston's 62M investment in Moncada. Hahn got Moncada, Kopech, Basabe and Diaz for Sale without having to send money to Boston to help compensate for Boston's initial 62M investment in Moncada. I think Hahn did rather well in that trade. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) He may have pointed it out, but it should have made no difference in terms of valuation. Moncada isn't more valuable than Benintendi simply because the Red Sox paid more money to acquire him in the first place. The original purchase price of an asset should have no impact on its future value. I would agree if we were talking about a player drafted out of HS/College but this about an international signing that costed Boston a total of 62M to acquire. If I invested that much money into a prospect, it's going to take more to entice me to trade him away, or in this case, give up a bit less in terms of prospects to acquire Sale. What I'm saying is that Moncada was more valuable to Boston than just his prospect ranking alone. That 62M investment absolutely factored into the trade negotiations, imo. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) Unless the Sox think Diaz can become a dominant set up man or closer (if Burdi falters), I would've asked for another bat in place of him...but maybe that's just me. I like Diaz as a potential back of the pen arm but would have preferred a hitter. With Boston set on Devers being their 3B of the future, I think it's possible Dalbec could been expendable in the eyes of Boston. Who knows, maybe Hahn tried and DD said no. -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) Adames + Honeywell would be a must Your proposed package is along the right lines of what it would take to land Quintana...a very steep price I'd want Jesus Sanchez included in any Tampa Bay deal. He's 19 and dripping with talent Austin Franklin is an interesting young arm Adames + Honeywell + any two of Bauers/Gillespie/Lowe/Sanchez/Franklin would be a nice package of talent for the White Sox Doubtful TB has the stones to pull off something like that though. They rely too heavily on their farm to stock the mlb roster to deplete it in a Q deal Yeah, it is a steep price but I could live with Adames, Honeywell, Lowe and Sanchez. That should be pretty close for both teams. I don't think TB will be serious suitors for Q, just entertaining the possibility is all.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Unless there is solid intel on exactly what was available and what was possibly turned down, there really isn't much of an argument unless you would be just fine having Sale in Glendale, and Moncada, Basabe, Kopech and Diaz still in Florida. I liked this trade just from Moncada alone. I never thought he would be available. Over $60 million invested and it wasn't like he washed out. I didn't like the Eaton trade, mainly because Eaton is signed for 5 years cheaply, and I'm not sold on Giolito struggling like James Shields last season being totally on some messed up mechanics. This may seem weird or stupid, but the fact that he still was pretty good in AAA indicates to me the issue wasn't mechanics. It could be a 21 year old with his first taste of the big leagues, but I actually would feel better about mechanics being an issue if he had been torched a bit in the minors. Some are happy the White Sox haven't traded Q yet. Others think the time to trade him has passed and the offers will never be better than they were. Either could be right. We don't know the offers. Besides, these are all prospects. Throw ins have outperformed the headliners many times. This is the hidden excess value in Moncada that I think some tend to forget. Boston ate 62M between the contract, bonus and penalties to sign Moncada. You can bet DD pointed that out to Hahn during negotiations. Imo, Moncada's talent and 62M invested arguably give him the value of two top fifty prospects. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) I think they can compete for a wild card spot. Hopefully they are playing good early on and are looking for a starter in June or July. He's so cheap he would be the type of guy they could make a case to drop some prospects and trade for a front-of-the rotation guy. But they are also similar to the Pirates. Yeah, Tampa is like Pitt in that they the prospects but I doubt they have the balls to actually go for it. I think it would take Adames, Honeywell, Bauers and Lowe for the Rays to get into the bidding.
-
Here's an article making a case for the Rays to make a run at acquiring Q. The Rays don't strike me as a team bold enough to cough up the haul it would take to get Q. https://www.google.com/amp/www.draysbay.com...t-jose-quintana

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 08:58 AM) That's debatable. While I'm not upset about our return, I still think we could've gotten more. Moncada/Kopech and Diaz as a wild card are fine, but I wish our 3rd piece was better. I know Devers would be unrealistic, but I feel like getting Groome over Basabe would have been a better reflection of Sale's value. There's a significant difference between asking for Basabe and asking for Groome. -

BlackSox13 replied to Southwest Sider's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Assuming Devers was never going to be apart of the deal, I think the only way the Sale haul could have realistically been better is if Hahn pushed for Dalbec over Diaz, which I would have preferred. Still, I like the haul the Sox received so I'm at peace with the trade. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 06:23 AM) DH, 3B, & 1B. Like it or not, he's probably making the team because he's out of options. The Sox will likely do whatever it takes to preserve depth, so guys like him, Sanchez, L. Garcia, Ynoa, etc. will get first cracks at spots, although I'd expect Davidson to get a very short leash. Delmonico is a similar player positionally (weaker at 3B though), but has a left-handed and projects as the better hitter in the the majors IMO. I'm not Davidson believer by any means, but I think we're better off giving him a two month addition and allowing Delmonico a bit more time in AAA. Of all the fringe, near major league ready prospects in the system, Delmonico is the one guy who I think has a real chance at developing into more than just a bench piece and I see no reason to rush him at the moment. I don't mind give Davidson a chance but I admit that my expectations are low. Didn't know Davidson is out of options so thanks for that info. Here's the options I see where Davidson fits into the lineup. 1) Frazier 3B, Abreu 1B, Davidson DH, Melky LF, Avi RF. The obvious problem here is with Davidson at DH it puts Melky and Avi in the outfield together and we already know how bad that is. 2) Davidson 3B, Frazier 1B, Abreu DH, Melky LF, Avi RF. Abreu and Frazier can flip back and forth between the DH and 1B position which should help keep both players healthy. But the same problem exists with Melky and Avi in the OF together. To me, the obvious answer to the problem is to DFA Avi ( I think he has an option left). If he accepts, he goes to Charlotte and if not he becomes a FA. No big loss either way.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 09:49 PM) That's a pretty damn brutal defensive lineup. Will def help the tank brigade but not the pitching. Agreed, it really is bad. That's the problem with choosing from the likes of Avi, Melky, Asche, Leury, Liriano and W.Garcia, bad defense. Engel, May, Tilson and Bourjos can play defense but their bats leaves plenty to be desired. On a rebuilding team, I'd go defense first and put Melky at DH. I'm usually against pushing players but Engel plays plus CF defense, has been in the minors for 3.5 years and is 25 years old so throw his ass in CF and hope for the best. Let Tilson and May duel it out for LF where their popcorn throwing arms are better suited and stick Bourjos in RF. That leaves one of Tilson/May as the 4th outfielder and take your pick for the fifth outfielder, Leury? No matter what, the outfield choices just aren't good. If Sox fans aren't praying for an OF'r or two in or Q trade, they really should be. The next crop of outfielders (Basabe/Call/Fisher) are a few years away so what we currently see in ST is what we're going to see over the next few years unless we add more OF depth via trade or free agency. To be honest, the lack of quality OF depth on the Sox and at Charlotte is kinda killing my Re-build buzz. Not cool.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) Davidson is a roster lock. Where does he play?
-
To start the season I'm thinking something like this. Rotation: Q, Rodon, Gonzalez, Holland, Shields Pen: Robertson, Jones, Jennings, Petricka, Putnam, Soto and Covey as the long man. Lineup: LF- Melky CF- May (RHP) Bourjos (LHP) RF- Asche (RHP) Avi (LHP) DH- Abreu (RHP) 1B- Delmonico (RHP) Abreu (LHP) 2B- Saladino (can backup Frazier at 3B ) 3B- Frazier SS- Anderson C - Narvaez/Soto This leaves one spot open on the bench so I'd go with Yolmer at this point. I think May makes the team thanks to Tilson's inability to stay healthy and Delmonico makes it due to a nice ST and his LHB. That's my take for now but could/probably will change as we move closer to the end of ST. Thank goodness baseball is back.
