  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) I hope we win 50 games. If the Sox stick with Shields and give him 30+ starts I honestly feel like Shields is a 20-25 game loser. The Sox don't have another player that can pound for pound of s*** give you that kind of production towards a high 2018 draft pick. Think of Shields as the base fertilizer (poop) for the June 2018 flower the Sox will pick. Makes me think of rainbow ejaculating unicorns. Sorry back to the thread...
  2. Didn't understand or like the Shields trade but it is what it is. IMHO, the Sox need Shields for the time being. As of now it looks like the five rotation pitchers will be Q, Rodon, Holland, Shields and Covey. When one of Giolito, Lopez , Fulmer become ready I think Covey is first to go. When the second pitcher becomes ready he will probably replace Q if/when he is traded. When the third of those three is ready, that's when you cut bait on Shields. It's going to be painful to watch but just use and abuse Shields to help buy some time for the younger pitchers. He will also be playing an important role in helping the team get a high 2018 1St round pick, so there's that.
  3. If Sale went to the Nat's then it's possible Q goes to Boston for a slightly lesser package and the Sox still have Eaton who would be more difficult to move due to the amount of outfielders available for trade. Plus, it's possible the Sox would not receive the haul for Eaton that the Nat's gave up. IMHO, things have worked out for the best so far. I would rather be looking to trade Q for a haul in June/July than Eaton.
  4. Thanks White Sox for streaming the game JAMES SHIELDS starts. I've been sooooo looking forward to it. Tilson better be on the lookout for May. Jacob has been hitting the ball well while Tilson has been out.
  5. Good golly miss Molly. I agree Renteria will be a positive change for the Sox but to expect him to compensate for the loss of Sale and Eaton is setting the expectations just a bit too high, IMHO.
  6. Nice bomb, has it reentered earth's atmosphere yet ? Going to be interesting to see how Beer has progressed when May 2018 comes around. If scouts still feel his bat will be something special then I wouldn't mind drafting a 1B in the first round.
  7. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 5, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) He looked solid not blowing it by guys but worked ahead and not too much hard contact against a decent spring lineup for the diamond backs. Delmonico put s charge into one in the 9th, hit off the top of the wall in center for a triple. Thanks for your input on Lopez. Delmonico looks interesting so far and I like his left handed bat.
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 5, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) At the game, may took an awful route on that ball, should have been an out. Game getting sloppy now, wild pitch offense for d backs. How did Lopez look? His stats in the box score look good.
  9. I like the enthusiasm but I don't see it happening this year. We're going to see alot of new players over the next few years and those players will take time to adjust so be prepared for many ups and downs. Should still be fun watching the kids grow up though.
  10. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) I guess I was expecting the immediate impact of a hitter like Benintendi for Chris Sale. I am not concluding that Moncada was over hyped but I am starting to wonder if he will turn out to be as good of a player as his rating as a number the number one prospect in baseball. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox...ying_to_be_more Benintendi and Sale had three years of college experience before they were drafted whereas Moncada was a 19 year old kid with raw talent coming out of Cuba. Huge difference. Let's keep in mind he's just 21 years old at AAA. He's doing just fine.
  11. Good to hear. There's no point in setting time tables and expectations with a player that's just 21.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) He'd fit just as well as Kopech Exactly. If people are OK with the acquisition of Dunning then I don't see how anyone would object to Groome since they were both drafted in '16. I would be ecstatic to acquire a talent like Groome. Imo, there is no timeline when it comes to rebuilding an organization from the ground up. Get the best talent possible regardless of their age.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Regardless of what we gave up, our FO targeted Lawrie as an upgrade. If you weren't a fan of the upgrade it's still fair to criticize. Agreed. I was a big fan of the trade and that's why I'm not criticizing it. Things did not work out and it's time to move on.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Yeah. Gives them something to write about lol Exactly. Wouldn't be surprised if Levine is writing something up as we speak.
  15. Smart move by the Sox. Lawrie's leg issues have been lingering for too long and imo, Saladino is a better over all player so keeping Lawrie would be pointless. I wish Lawrie nothing but the best.
  16. Well, this thread was an interesting and informative read until I got to page 10. Went south pretty fast from there. Anyway. Thank you all for your input. I have learned alot about Robert and the league's new rules.

    Lent Thread

Though I'm not Catholic or religious, I still chose to give something up anyway. So long sobriety.
  18. The clock is ticking Bruce Levine. March 10th is one week from today. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock... Not expecting Boston to come calling for Q. It would be a better idea to give their depth a chance to step up and re-evaluate their rotation in June. Wouldn't be surprised if sports writers come out with articles about how the Yanks should increase their level of interest for Q.
  19. The Sale and Eaton trades along with the '16 draft have given the farm a huge boost and it looks so much better than it did a year ago.
  20. There's a steep drop off in talent after Boston's top three prospects. Take Beni out of the equation and you can just about bet Hahn would want both Devers and Groome in a trade for Q. Highly doubtful Boston goes for that. For now, I don't think Boston goes after Q but it could make the Yankees FO change their perspective on their ability to compete with Boston this year. The Yanks have more than enough farm depth to trade for Q and have plenty left over.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 10:36 AM) Or teams who thought maybe the Red Sox would runaway with the division are now possibly thinking they could slip to a possible wild card spot and can look to improve their own chances of competing with them. Great point. Subtracting Price from Boston and adding Q to the Yanks could certainly close the gap between the two teams.
  22. I don't think Boston does anything right now but if their pitching depth struggles they could have interest in Q when June's/July comes around.
  23. Really sorry to hear this. Price is a great dude and a workhorse. That's 200+ innings Boston's pitching depth will have to account for.
  24. To be honest I just don't know what to say about Avi. I appreciate his hard work and hustle but the results just aren't there.
