  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) I kinda doubt the Cardinals would pay what it would take for Q. I think it'd be more likely that they would have interest in Gonzalez. I think you're spot on with Gonzalez, he's a good fit for what they would be looking for. Gonzalez is a good one year place holder for Reyes.
  2. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 12:17 AM) Holy crap, are you serious? Firstly, Davidson sucks out loud at baseball. He never was an MLB-caliber player, and he never will be. More importantly, you want to rush Collins, who hasnt even proven himself beyond 150 or so PA @ A+, into a team thats probably going to suck? Why? If he'd be good this year, all that would accomplish is to waste his controllable years on bad teams. More likely, he'd be bad, & a perfectly good prospect would likely be ruined. Why not bring up Moncada, too, right? Agreed,, Collins has a ways to go yet. With the Sox rebuilding there's no need to rush any player or set any time tables. Their performance in the minors will dictate when they are ready. Personally, I could care less if Giolito, Lopez, Moncada and Fulmer spend the whole season in the minors. They are all so young that there's plenty of time for them to develop.
  3. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 09:04 PM) Brent Lawrie should try to play Left field , otherwise he will have a tough time making the 25 man roster. With Lawrie's leg still bothering him, shagging fly balls in LF could be difficult. Imo, the longer the leg issue sticks around the better the chance of him being released as ST comes to an end. Back to Alvarez. For the second straight season ST begins with Alvarez unsigned. Hmm, wonder why. He's a horrible fielder, K's a ton and cannot hit LHP. The Sox are better off with moving Melky or Abreu to DH and stay away from Alvarez.
  4. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) If fans are this sensitive to losing a meaningless ST game like this, how wilt they tolerate a long term rebuild? No kidding. The game threads will be horribly funny to read though.
  5. Twins are calling out SD for the 2018 1-1 pick. SD, your response... I think it's good Kopech takes one on the chin, it's a good learning experience. Plus it's early and as someone else pointed out, Kopech is a few years away. Giolito, Lopez and Fulmer are the ones to watch because they will be the eventual replacements for Shields, Gonzalez and the fifth starting spot.
  6. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) Those guys are all potential deadline deals, all we can do is hope that they have strong seasons to increase their value We want to tank and pick as close to #1 overall as possible for the strong 2018 draft class We also will have a ton of payroll flexibility after 2 more seasons, with pretty much no expensive contracts on the books any more Agree with everything you say. Heck, as long as Shields sucks we may as well keep him. He alone could be worth three or four wins under replacement.
  7. QUOTE (Soha @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) I think we're seeing in this thread that some fans would rather see the Sox stay on the treadmill of mediocrity, than tank and rebuild properly. Personally I'm all-in on the tank - but the Sox need to move more players and do it soon if they're going to do it right. It will probably be too late if they wait for the all-star break or trading deadline to make some deals. I'm definitely on board with this rebuild but Hahn can't force teams to trade for the Sox hot garbage. At this point there's no market for Melky, Frazier, Robertson, Shields etc. No choice but to play them and hope to trade them later.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) Yeah I'm kinda thinking Lawrie gets released at the end of Spring Training. Especially if Tyler tears it up. As for Frazier, he needs to get on the field himself first haha Lol, this is true. Hopefully the oblique injury does not linger.
  9. Imo, Lawrie stands a good chance of being released at the end of ST. His leg is still bothering him and the Sox have Saladino to play 2B who is the better player anyway. Lawrie literally has no value. Anyway, back to Wright. I wonder what a good asking price for Frazier is if the Mets were interested. Would like to get Nimmo but something tells me that's a bit of a reach.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) How are they rebuilding at a snail's pace? They traded away 2 of their biggest assets within a day of each other. Trust me when I'm say your words fall upon deaf ears my friend.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) Yeah I wouldn't mind Melky getting most of the at bats plus getting guys like Abreu in there to remain fresh. Then you can see if Avi can at least look capable in LF, Tilson in CF and then I guess Liriano in RF? Liriano or Bourjos in RF would work for me. I like the idea of Tilson in LF, Bourjos in CF, Ashe or Liriano in RF, Melky DH and Avi the new DFA.
  12. I read that the Mets plan to use Reyes at third for ST until they know more about Wright. Surely Frazier would be an upgrade over Reyes so it's possible the Mets could have interest in Frazier. Could be an interesting story to follow.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 06:36 AM) Think it kinda depends on how many OFs they plan on keeping and if they want to give Asche or Davidson those at bats or not. No need for Alvarez since the Sox have plenty of would be DH's already. I'd like see Melky moved to the DH spot.
  14. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/poss...p;post-id=86413 I'm sure Alvarez is going to keep fans in the seats.
  15. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) The Cards are an interesting add because it serves two purposes, adds another team that can drive up the price and puts pressure on the Pirates to keep him away from a division opponent. I think the Braves will check in during the summer if they are still in striking distance. They have put a lot of resources into going for it this year, the first year in their new park. I don't know what to make of the Braves to be honest. They signed Danks, Colon, Dickey and traded for Garcia. Those moves tell me they are looking for place holders while they wait for their young pitching to become MLB ready. I do not doubt the Braves interest, just their level of interest at this point, much like the Cards. The Braves, Cards, Astros and Pirates appear to be content in waiting to see what they have and where they are at when June/July comes around. This would be great for the Sox if all four of those teams remain competitive. Add in the possibility of other contenders such as the Rangers, Mariners and cubs jumping into the mix and there could be a heck of a bidding war for Q. That bidding war has the potential to get crazy if Archer and Gray fail to bounce back. I think Hahn is doing the right thing in waiting for the right offer to come to him. The payoff could be huge by waiting for teams to become desperate.
  16. Interesting the Braves weren't mentioned. They are rumored to have offered a package built around Albies and Newman. It's possible they just want to wait and see where they are at in June/July. I am doubtful of the Cards and think Levine is throwing them into the mix based on Reyes having TJ surgery. Not sure the Cards will give up the 4+ prospects it would take for them to acquire Q. Doubtful of the Yanks. Cashman seems bent on keeping their talent and Yanks fans seem to agree. I think the only way Cashman changes his mind is if they are still hanging with Boston come June/July, which I don't believe will happen. The Yanks can simply keep their prospects and buy starting pitching next winter in free agency. The Astros and Pirates are no surprise though. If this drags out into June/July then I think the Dodgers will be in the mix as well. Don't know if Seattle would be willing to give up the haul for Q (like the Cards ) but if they are hanging with the Astros and Rangers come June/July they might become desperate enough.
  17. Sounds as though the three most interested teams for Q were the Braves, Pirates and Astros and are expected to be competing (Braves?) by the time June/July rolls around and there's likely groundwork already laid from winter talks. The Dodgers have one of the most brittle starting rotations in baseball so I think they end up in the mix for Q. The Mariners expect to contend in the ALW and their rotation has potential for a hole or two. Vogelbach, Lewis and O'Neill would be a great start to negotiating for Q. I'm hesitant to say the Rockies but if they can hang with the Dodgers long enough in the NLW, it's possible the Rockies call about Q when June/July comes around. There's potential for more action as the season gets closer to the deadline but the flipside to this is there could be more pitching available by then if Archer and/or Gray rebound in the first half. None the less, if Hahn has not received the offer he's looking for then waiting is the right move, even if it takes until next off season (which I doubt it does).
  18. Damn, this is a bummer. Two of his most memorable roles for me were Chet in Weird Science and Hudson in Aliens. s***, the wife and I just watched Aliens a few nights ago. Great actor and funny guy. RIP Bill.
  19. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 25, 2017 -> 05:49 PM) No, they need to be for the possible collection of talent. That talent being able to play the OF is a bonus. Yep, agreed. The organization is not just short of OF talent but Catching talent as well. If the Sox can get a near MLB ready Catcher (Severino) as part of a trade for Robertson then they should do it. Assuming Collins sticks at Catcher would not be wise at this point and he's still a few years away and we're still not sure what we have in Narvaez yet either. Q is the best trade chip for insisting on OF talent as part of the return.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) Even if you can't move Jones in the off-season, he will still have great value at 3.5 years if he is traded in 2018. Oh yeah, as long as Jones can stay healthy he will have great value. IMHO, if Jones can succeed as a Closer in the second half, he's as good as gone next winter and for a nice haul. There would be no shortage of teams ringing Hahn's phone for a cheap Closer with four years of control left. Jones rumors would be a hot topic at the winter meetings.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) I agree. In a perfect world, Jones takes over for him in the 2nd half, dominates, and is subsequently traded for a haul in the offseason. Burdi can take over the reigns in 2018 if he has a nice season this year, and if not, sign a stopgap until he's ready. Good points, I'm thinking the same. That would be the best way to maximize the returns for Robertson and Jones. I'd love to get Severino but have no problem with waiting until June/July to trade Robertson.
  22. Holding onto Robertson until June/July just might pay off. Iirc, Robertson usually gets off to strong start. The Sox won't contend this year or next so pitching his ass of to get traded to a contender is his best chance of seeing the playoffs any time soon.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) I am sure their price was based on 2015 Robertson and not 2016. The Nationals were probably bidding as if he was 2016 Robertson. The fact the White Sox didn't come down in price is probably where the idea that they didn't want to trade him comes from. They probably didn't want to get rid of him at a reduced price. When Eaton was traded it sounded as if Rizzo was trying to get Hahn to include Robertson as more of a salary relief throw-in/buy low player. Hahn, otoh, sees some value in Robertson as a closer and actually wants something of quality in return. I'd say your right.
  24. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) My guess is Sox wouldn't send any or at least enough cash along with Drob to acquire the young prospect(s) they want. We'll see how that progresses as the 1st half unwraps and the Nats see how their internal options are doing... The money definitely a big part of it. Rizzo likes to defer money when he can and did so with Weiters. Spotrac has the Nat's payroll at 163M so maybe they feel they would be pushing their own limitations plus inhibit the ability to take on a higher salary player to fill a hole at the deadline.
  25. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) All great points...give me a glove first and the bat can come around later. Exactly. There's some seriously filthy stuff in the Sox organization. It's possible we see Jordan Stephens curve ball in the near future as well.
