Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
BlackSox13 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Rogers is correct I'm glad to hear the Sox are looking at Severino and not Norris. Severino has the defense and has shown some potential to hit for a decent average so there is hope for his bat seeing as how he's just 23. Really hope the Sox and Nats can come to some kind of agreement even if Severino is not part of the return for Robertson. Want to get Jones into the closers role in hopes of boosting his value for a potential trade in July. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) I'm not sure the Nationals want to move Severino He is only 23 years old and under long term control Even if his ceiling is modest, he is the sort of player who can have a long career as a defensive backup Then there is no deal. The Nat's need for moving Norris is higher than the Sox need for moving Robertson. One way it could work is if the Nat's offered other prospects for Robertson while trying to trade Norris to another team. -

If the Sox were trying to contend then Norris would make sense but since they are rebuilding the Nat's have to be willing to part with Severino if they are going to trade a catcher. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 11:59 AM) Season: "Cut Robertson! He's crap! Offseason: "Gonna need a Top 100+." This made me actually laugh out loud because I remember some folks were ticked the Sox didn't salary dump Robertson to the Yanks last August when the Yanks were rumored to be interested. Good one. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 19, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) Padres look like they can go 50-112 pretty easily. Man, you aren't kidding. Even if Renfroe breaks out with a big year ( I thank he does) they will still be tough to catch for the '18 #1 pick. SD is going to take a beating from the Dodgers, Giants and Rockies on a regular basis. Heck, even AZ should thump SD pretty good. I think the Padres stand a good chance of not getting to 50 wins.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) Rebuilding is going to be a multi year process The organization will look different 12 months from now than it does today with the draft, trades, shrewd signings, player development, etc. We certainly have a long way to go with bats, but everyone has to like us stockpiling young arms with high upside The Sox are in a great payroll position moving forward, with very little on the books past the next couple seasons once Frazier, Melky and Shields are gone They certainly will have enough to add to the roster via free agency, but building from within will be important too. It's not just about the near future within 5 years, but building an organization from the ground up that is capable of sustained success for the long term as well. Agree with everything you say. Glad the Sox are rebuilding the entire organization from rookie ball to the big League club. If they do this right, and I do believe in Hahn, then we won't be hearing "retooling/rebuilding on the fly" as well as " three year window" in the future. Imo, the White Sox goal is to have a sustainable farm to rely on much like the Cardinals have. There's been on alot of focus from the FO on scouting, drafting and player development but it's still in the early stages. Looking at the last few drafts it's easy to see the Sox have changed their approach on drafting hitters from toolsy position players to high contact/OBP position players and I really like it. Sox fans just need to be patient while these players develop over the next few years. -
QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Feb 19, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) I think quality should be in quotation marks I don't. Bourjos still grades above average in CF and can play all three OF positions. I have no problem calling Bourjos a quality backup outfielder.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) If Tilson isn't Burjos will be the starting CF. No need to rush Engel or May. Doh! Forgot all about Bourjos. At least there's a quality CF for a backup plan.
-
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 10:45 PM) Jake Burger sounds good to me. Since we're ordering.... I'll have the Burger in '17 and wash it down with a Beer in '18.

I wonder if Tilson's foot is why Hahn had that pause in the podcast. I know the Sox said they will reevaluate Tilson in ten days but if for some reason he isn't ready by opening day, just throw Engel to the wolves and make him the CF. His at bats will be painful to watch at times but at least his defense will play up in CF. Really don't want to see Liriano or Leury in CF. Paging Mr.ptatc, your expertise is needed good sir. If this is just a stress fracture any idea how long you think it will take for Tilson's foot to heal? Thank you in advance.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
BlackSox13 replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Q has clean mechanics with a low effort delivery and has shown to be durable over the last four years. I don't get the injury paranoia. I'm more concerned with Giolito's surgically repaired elbow and Kopech trying to throw the s*** out of every pitch ( according to Cooper ). -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Give me a team full of assholes who can produce like that. Remember the play when Belle was on 1st and a grounder was hit to the 2nd baseman ? He went to tag Belle and Belle tagged him with a huge elbow . At the time loved it. Not sure the 2nd baseman completed the throw to 1st but the ump called the out for interference or something. Now that's a team player ! He definitely had some Ty Cobb in him. I vaguely remember the play. Respectfully disagree on the team player thing. 25 Albert Belle's in the same clubhouse would never take the field because they would be brawling each before game time. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) The irony here is off the charts. Yeah, you aren't kidding! It's one thing to be an asshole but Cobb was juuuuust a bit more than that.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 07:37 AM) Why do you hate Albert Belle ? He had one of the greatest seasons in Sox history and then were able to get rid of him before he got hurt ? Win Win . In 1998 Belle had 399 total bases . The most Frank Thomas ever had was 364 . Trout and Willie Mays never got that high. Hank Aaron reached exactly 400 once. Pujol's high was 394. That 1998 season was a historic year for Belle. I don't hate anyone but Belle is and always was an asshole. I spent alot of time at the Cell that year in what I think was called the lower deck reserved in LF. Belle was an asshole to fans as well as the Sox bullpen pitchers. Witnessed that first hand on more than one occasion. Then there's the stories of him being an asshole in the clubhouse , just ask Lofton and Thomas. No doubt Belle had an incredible year but Belle was always about Belle first and foremost. The prick always had a chip on his shoulder for some reason or another. As good as he was I was glad when he opted out.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) I love you too man. Miley, you're the son I always wanted but never had. Hey. Been meaning to ask you, did you draw your avatar? That's really good dude. Much better than the stick figures I'm capable of drawing. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 09:04 PM) So we're going with the tongue in cheek banner ? Who's next Keppinger, ? Latos ? LaRoche ? Swisher ? Let's go all out and put Jaimie Navarro, Jose Paniagua and Joey Belle up there. The ultimate s***-show.

Still like the idea of Q, Abreu, Moncada and Giolito. Two current and two future players just sounds right. Can't say I understand why a player we couldn't wait to get rid of is now on the banner.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 06:16 PM) Still no deal. Bruce Levine full of s*** again. I expect Q to be moved by the deadline along with DRob, Frazier, Melky. Same old Bruce. Technically he did say Q would be gone before the start of the WBC so there's still time. Not that I'm counting on it. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 07:15 PM) Lol Sadly, I haven't been drinking so I can't even use that for an excuse. I think the new banner should have a paper bag covering or I really need to knock some beers back.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 07:09 PM) Huh? Lol, looks like Lawrie to me.

Before I comment further can I ask why Dunn and Lawrie?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) I'm almost 26 so....haha Lol, I thought you had recently mentioned your age in another thread. That's why I kinda giggled when I read Mike's post. I knew it was a typo but just couldn't help myself. Mike's a good dude so I had to have a little fun with him. -
QUOTE (Wanne @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) My Dad and I...doing our usual State of the Sox talk before spring training...I brought up that fact how Hansen continually gets overlooked as a top prospect. Probably one of the bigger steals of any drafts that I can recall recently given where he was taken. I agree with jerksticks somewhat...that he's soon to be a Top 10 spec. Guy is just too good to live in anonymity... I'm definitely seeing this your way. Imo, by the end of this season writers and fans will be talking about Hansen being the steal of the '16 draft class. Maybe I'm a bit too high on him but his size and pitching repertoire are just so appealing to me that I can't help it. The ingredients are their for Hansen to be a top of the rotation starter and the Sox are one of the best organizations to help him become that.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 08:30 AM) And that's not counting guys the Sox drafted prior to the rebuild. Rodon, Anderson, Collins, Hansen, Fulmer and others have them a good starting point for a rebuild and trading their valuable assets will make it even faster Great points and I agree. The Sox have already established a very solid foundation for this rebuild. Sox fans just need to have some patience and perhaps a bit of faith in Hahn. Clearly this rebuild is Hahn's baby so let's give him a chance to see what more he can do. Personally, I like what he's done so far despite the trade returns bringing back more pitching than hitting.
