  1. If the cubs were interested in trading Schwarber he would have been dealt for pitching already. My guess is Theo wants to use this season to build Schwarber's value to trade him next winter for pitching. If he shows he can somewhat play LF and have a good season with the bat, he will have a ton of value next winter. This would allow the cubs more time to develop their young ML outfielders to replace Schwarber in '18. One of Almora/Happ should be ready by ST next year. Forget Schwarber. Would rather target players like Happ, Almora, Jimenez, Candelario. Schwarber would not come cheap even now and I'd be willing to bet the cubs would want Q or Giolito or Lopez in return. No thanks.
  2. No problem with taking it slow with Rodon. He's young, still building up his innings and is the future ace after Q is traded. Smart move by the Sox, imo.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) Cubs did it pretty quickly; Astros took a while. But the dispersals did not take particularly long. Sox are still in dispersal phase, and have moved 3 players in 2 major trading periods (July and Winter 16). And 2 of the 3 were deemed "bad for clubhouse." A touch of urgency might be in order. Theo took over the cubs in 2011 and that's pretty much when their rebuild started. Theo had his work cut out for him due to the horrible contracts Hendry left in his wake, namely Soriano and Dumpster who's contracts made them difficult to trade. Once those contracts were gone, which required them to eat money to be rid of them, the pace of their rebuild did pick up but it still took a good 4-5 years. Trading Sale and Eaton has already put the Sox ahead of the cubs/Astros rebuild pace. Imagine how much further along the Sox will be when Q is traded. There's potential to move even further along if the Sox are able to get some kind of value for Robertson, Frazier and possibly Jones at the deadline. Now add the June draft and July intl signings and the Sox organization will be in really good shape going into next winter.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 10:50 PM) They admitted they knew last year they were going to rebuild and the 23-10 start was a fluke. They had prime chances to trade guys before the all star break. They had all offseason. I personally would have preferred trying to win again with Sale leading our rotation and making some $mart baseball moves like acquiring some relievers who can get people out and getting a DH who can hit the ball over the fence and a catcher. So we have Robin for manager forever and let him try to win with real players. Now we finally get rid of him and we're in some sort of "rebuild" that isn't even 1/3 of the way underway. There's no reason to give at bats to Frazier, Melky, Lawrie or pitch Robertson in a rebuild. Maybe our franchise will be dominant in 3 years. We shall see I guess. If the Sox are to have any chance of trading Frazier, Melky and Robertson then they have to play, period. I do agree about Lawrie and would have preferred letting him go. Thing is , Frazier, Melky and Robertson will cost the Sox roughly 40M this year. Are you really suggesting it would be a good idea to pay them to not be on the roster and playing for someone else? Better off holding onto them and try to trade them at the deadline since they are getting paid anyway. Frazier is still a solid 3B coming off a 40HR season so he still has value and will be in more demand come June/July. Robertson could still be moved during ST and if not, like Frazier, there will be interest come June/July. Melky, meh, probably not going anywhere but the trade possibility does exist. He can still hit so who knows. As for Lawrie, I think he gets DFA'd once Moncada is ready and maybe even before that.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 06:17 PM) This is not a short process, and if they do not feel they are receiving sufficient value for their players, they are not going to trade them. Using their forecasts and they're best guesses, they have obviously determined that trading Quintana for the packages being offered was not a net plus. How pissed would you have been if they'd gotten 2 mediocre prospects for Quintana? I think he would be pissed no matter what. You can bet the house on that.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 05:07 PM) I dunno, but what they are doing is ridiculous. They traded 2 guys. What kind of rebuild is that? I want to win over anything else now, but if not, get the rebuild going. I don't see the rebuild that many of you see. I see 5-8 years of pathetic baseball ahead. Frazier, Melky and Lawrie have literally no trade market and there's limited interest in Robertson at this point. According to rumors teams haven't offered enough for Q just yet. Keeping Abreu is a good idea so I wouldn't expect him traded unless a team over pays in Juky. No team has rebuilt their team in just one off season so what do you expect? Look how long it took the cubs and Astros to rebuild their organizations. If this is not a rebuild then why haven't the Sox signed any free agents to help contend and if they are trying to contend why trade Eaton and Sale? It's no secret the Sox need outfielders and yet they did not sign or trade for any despite the market being flooded with available outfielders, especially the trade market. There's no grand conspiracy here, just the beginning of a rebuild. The Sox themselves are calling it a rebuild. Not sure why some have a such hard time grasping the rebuild concept but it is indeed happening. Like it or not.
  7. QUOTE (Yoda @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) The strong winds we had about a month ago knocked down a huge tree branch so I'll be chopping that up this Saturday and put together a nice bon fire. Weather channel says it'll be about 52 degrees around 7pm that night so that's still tolerable for being outside with a beer in hand and fire on the side. The wife and I are going to do just that all weekend long.Going to fire up the pit, have some drinks and crank the music collection. The weekend forecast is unbelievable for this time of year and we are going to enjoy it to the fullest.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) Andrew Baggarly @extrabaggs Rollins said he made the wrong decision to sign w/White Sox over Giants last year. Eager to get work at 3B/2B in addition to SS. It's OK Jimmy, I still like you. Here's your new theme song brudduh...
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) To all of you who are about to embrace losing every game possible. My question to you is: How many years of losing are you looking forward to? Four minimum? Five? Six? Also, you are trusting in our front office to pick the right young guys to acquire? This is the same front office allegedly in a rebuild that still has a TON of veterans on the team in Melky, Frazier, Lawrie, Quintana, Robertson. Have fun. I have a feeling our fanbase is about to shrink to 10,000 fans max in a big city like Chicago after 2-3 years of 60-70 wins. Correct me if I'm wrong but we're you one of the posters who wanted to blow it all up and start trading players?
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 45m45 minutes ago James Shilelds: I have nothing to prove. I think my career speaks for itself. I definitely want to prove to #WhiteSox fans who I really am Good to know Shields is a Soxtalk lurker. Hi James!
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) My Controls -> Signature Press the image icon in the signature field and insert a URL like https://s32.postimg.org/7xdacu4g5/12soxv2.jpg Whelp, count me out. For whatever reason it isn't working for me. Oh well, it's the thought that counts.
  12. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) I've already got dibs on making that sig for the group The dibs are yours my man. Just tell me how the hell I put the image in my sig,. Scratching my ass trying to figure it out.
  13. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) I would never belong to any club that would have me as a member. But you or anyone else are free to use it. Lol, I'm kinda the same way. If a club is willing to have me as a member it doesn't say much for the club itself. Since you gave your blessing and I currently have no sig, I'm going to use it. Can't stand to see such a brilliant banner go to waste. Damn, now I want a beer!
  14. QUOTE (FT35 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) Something like this? I like it. Well done. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) How about this? Ha ha, that should be the banner for the " tank for Beer " campaign. Here's an idea dude. You start a " tank for Beer " club where the members use your banner as a sig.
  15. I noticed his name a few years ago when I looked him up during winter ball. Threw me off at first when I saw his name listed as Yolmer but once I saw his face I knew I had found the guy I was looking for.
  16. Interesting ideas and Baumann is clearly thinking outside the box which I like alot. I don't think the Sox have enough to compete but I suppose stranger things have happened. Hard for me to see the Sox as potential contenders with Holland and Shields in the rotation. The article got me thinking, thank you Baumann. In an effort to improve the IF defense I wouldn't mind seeing Lawrie shifted to 3B, Saladino to 2B, Frazier to 1B, Abreu the DH with Anderson at SS. 3B might be easier on Lawrie's injuries, Frazier would be an upgrade at 1B and Saladino an upgrade at 2B. Sounds good in theory. Anyway. I enjoyed the Baumann article, well done.
  17. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) I think it'll be fun to watch games this year... if they lose, cool! If someone like Davidson blows chunks - oh well... if he does great, cool! Rooting for players who are trade candidates will be a thing and following all the affiliates will be intense. Following the international signing period, the draft, other teams top prospects performances, monitoring trade partners standings... it'll be a much different type of fandom but it'll be lit. f*** yeah hi8is, you nailed it! I was a Sox fan long before and after the infamous white flag trade. If I can survive that, this will be a cake walk.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) I believe it was KW telling this to Chuck Garfien That would be a different story. But a blogger saying KW told him something is what I question. Too many bloggers, tweeters etc spout off for attention to get the hits while being incredibly vague.
  19. Meh, not going to get my knickers in a twist because a blogger said " eye popping deal". Without names that bloggers words mean less than zero. Just another asshat spouting off is all.
  20. I like the idea of Anderson, Moncada, Rodon and Abreu.
  21. Man, have I missed baseball and am so glad ST is under way! Baseball is my one and only true love in the sports world and its finally back again! f*** yeah.
  22. Good music discussions going on. Gives some insight to what some of us Sox fans are into. Anyone care to list their genres of interest and the artists in those genres? Kind of surprised Dick Allen isn't in here posting. I know he loves him some Rush. Come on DA, jump on in dude. Something tells you like you some good old classic rock. The power of Geddy Lee compels you!
  23. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) Interesting thought. Sierra plus a lottery ticket would be a nice package for Gonzalez It's likely they roll with watcha though Agree. Wacha would be the smart thing to do. The Cards can always look to add a pitcher during the season if Wacha doesn't perform.
  24. Entertaining the idea of the Cards looking into Gonzalez, I wonder if Sierra would be too much to ask for.
  25. Ouch, this is a blow to the Cards. Don't see the Cards giving up the high cost it would take to acquire Q but I agree with those that suggest Gonzalez would be a good fit. They can ride Gonzalez for the '17 season while Reyes recovers. Wonder if this news makes Huntington think a bit more about Q. The subtraction of Reyes from the Cards and an addition of Q to the Pirates roster would be a significant swing. It's possible though I'm not counting on it. In a perfect world, the Pirates would finally give it up for Q and the Cards make a nice offer for Gonzalez. Would help both NLC teams push the cubs while helping the Sox get a higher draft pick in '18. Nothing wrong with a little day dreaming.
