QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Megadeth won Metal album of the year and the Grammy orchestra played Metallica's Master of Puppets as they came up to accept their award. Whoops! Poor Dave. No matter what he cannot escape Metallica's shadow. Shame because IMHO, he's a better song writer and much better rhythm guitar player than Hetfield could ever be. Good for Megadeth. I'll take Megadeth over Metallica everyday of the week.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) There are a couple songs up there. This is a somewhat of a revolving project. The songwriter does these concept albums and each one has had a different lineup of musicians. I am in the third version of the band, these 2 songs are part of that album, but were recorded before I got involved. My wife plays drums on versions 2 & 3. We are going into the studio this spring. https://themaydayorchestra.bandcamp.com/ Here is #2: https://themaydayorchestra.bandcamp.com/album/ota-benga Very cool! Rhythmic, hypnotic and can here the native American influence in your wife's drumming. After hearing the drumming it reminded me so much of my favorite drummer, Barrett Martin from Screaming Trees/Mad Season. You have a new fan.

I doubt it's the Sox being reluctant to eat money in a trade. Is eating money in a trade any different than releasing players and still paying them to not be on the team anymore? At least when a team eats money in a trade they are receiving players in return. Hell, the Sox paid LaRoche to take his family on vacation and sit on ass watching duck dynasty last summer. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) Don't think pirates have the money for Q with Bastardo still on roster That's been the rumor all off season. K-mart shoppers with a maxed out credit card have no business shopping at Lord & Taylor. -
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) I played a show with a new band that's been working on all original material for a while now. A guy who was there told my wife, who is the drummer, that we sounded like My Morning Jacket with balls. We thought that was pretty cool. Got link to your tunes? I'm always looking for new music to add to my collection. You wouldn't happen to be on Bandcamp would you?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) With some of the ridiculous posts I just read, it is entirely appropriate for some. I just watched a thread about someones death turned into a thread about how awful Reinsdorf is. Agreed and it's pathetic how a man's passing has turned into Sox front office bashing. Come on Sox fans, show some respect and class for f***s sake.

Lol, glad I don't pay attention to the radio or awards anymore. Got sick of the mainstream years ago. Too much garbage and not enough quality.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 12:00 AM) You have to hope all of this doesnt go to Qs head going into the season. I dont see how it doesnt create any stress. Not at all concerned. Q is about as calm and cool as they come. Wish the Sox had more players like him. -

The Astros have been tied to Q for months now and ST is just about here. For the time being, Luhnow does not sound like he is posturing one bit. That's not to say negotiations will not be revisited at a later point but for now Luhnow sounds as though he's content with what they have. A positive aspect to to the negotiations over the last few months is that at least ground work has been laid similar to what Hahn had done with Boston last July that led to the Sale trade this winter. -

Unless Levine knows exactly what teams have offered then there's no reason to think the Sox are nuts if they don't trade Q. As for the WBC, I don't think pitching in the WBC is any more of a threat than pitching in ST. Iirc, pitch counts are monitored in the WBC just like ST. Levine must be incredibly bored like the rest of us. Come on baseball, let's get going already! -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) Is twitter such a difficult medium to master that people cannot be more clear in the intended meaning or are tweeters just purposefully vague in order to disguise their ineptitude or ignorance of their native tongue ? I think some use the disguise of being vague to keep people coming back in search of the latest info. Same can be said for some of the self proclaimed insiders when they use the " talks are fluid " which to me is another way of being vague. I think we're all intelligent enough to already know that trade discussions are fluid and can change so it's really just pointing out the obvious in an illusion to appear to have that insider status. Sean Sears is a primary example of this. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) That was my impression too. Just a few weeks back rumbunter claimed the Pirates made a three prospect offer to the Sox and now he's claiming three more players were offered on top of that? If it smells like bulls*** and looks like bulls*** then it probably is bulls***. Definitely damage control in my eyes. -

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) It does if those 2 mlb players are a salary dump Yep, I'm thinking the same thing. The player could have been Freese or Jaso and the SP could have been Cole. Wouldn't be surprised if the Pirates were pushing to trade Cole and not Glasnow. Still yet, I find it hard to believe a team like the Pirates would offer that many players for Q. There is nothing in their trade history to back up that claim made by rumbunter. To the best of my knowledge they have never made the kind of trade that would require the haul that Q does. All one needs to see is this at the top of rumbunter's twitter is " everyone thinks we're Neil Huntington apologists". That latest blurb sounds like an attempt to paint the Sox as the bad guys in the eyes of Pirates fans because they did seem to have high hopes of acquiring Q and now those hopes appear to be dead for the time being. Simply put, damage control. -
RIP Ilitch and condolences to your friends and family. Really enjoyed reading about how he became the person we are familiar with. Nothing but respect for the man who came into this world with very little and accomplished so much. I tip my baseball cap to Mr.Ilitch.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 07:59 PM) I wonder if Lawrie can play Left Field like Zobrist can. I'd rather have Melky in RF than Avi. Kick Avi to the curb and put Melky at DH. They can leave Lawrie at 2B and try Saladino in left or right field too. Might be easier to sell Lawrie at the deadline as an experienced 2B than as a new outfielder. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) There is no mystery 5th starter. You're missing Rodon and Gonzalez (who I usually forget exists myself haha) s***, you're right. My dumbass was thinking mystery starter #5 based on Q not being on the team anymore. DOH! Hello! Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) But I want the suck to be epic No worries, it's not like the Sox score runs for Q anyway. We still have Shields, Holland, mystery starter #5, Avi and the entire outfield to help with the suckdom. It wasn't going to be an epic suck anyway as long as Frazier, Melky and Abreu are on the team but it did have all the possibilities of being a righteously sucking team. Sigh, what might have been... -

The Astros farm is plenty deep enough to get a deal done without Musgrove, Martes and Tucker but the Astros have to be willing to part with quantity. Something like Paulino, Reed, Fisher, Laureano and one of Whitley/Perez might do the trick. Not the deal any of us Sox fans prefer but it would add depth from A ball to the big League club. That said, at this point I expect Q to be the opening day starter for your Chicago White Sox. I'm fine with that. -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) If he went unclaimed and could be signed for the veteran's minimum, I'd be all over that like a fat guy eating Cheeto's. Lol, well done! You're learning quickly. Looks like Park cleared waivers and the twins invited him to ST. Maybe Sears should stick to writing about the cubs because it's clear that he and his sources know s*** about Sox baseball. But hey, as long as he spouts off about something, followers will continue to follow.

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate

Robin was so bad that upgrading to Renteria negates the loss of Sale and Eaton so the Sox are no worse than they were with Robin, Sale and Eaton. Baseball can be so cruel! -

BlackSox13 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (pablo @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) I'd much rather roll with scenario 2. Robertson is not going to get anything more than a back end top #100 prospect if he recoups all his value. Just look at the Melancon trade from last year. If Jones proves himself as a closer, he could be worth two top 100 prospects. I agree and don't see Robertson gaining much in value either. I wouldn't give him away but would take a reasonable offer right now and make Jones the closer with hope for a haul in July. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Glover is not a bad prospect, but I'd certainly aim for a higher return than him as a centerpiece If Robertson's pricetag were that low he would have been dealt already I just like the idea of Glover being in the return for Robertson. No doubt it would take more than Glover even though I do have low expectations on Robertson's value at this point. Here's two interesting scenarios for the board. 1) Keep Robertson to hopefully build more value and trade at the deadline. Then make Jones the closer for the rest of '17 and hope he has some success and potentially traded as a closer next winter. Or 2) trade Robertson now for the best package possible. Make Jones the closer and hope he succeeds and potentially gets traded for a haul in July. Scenario #1 gives the best chance for maximum value if Robertson has a good first half and Jones becomes a solid closer in the second half. Those ifs do come with more risk and wait a bit longer for the rewards. Scenario #2 would mean taking potentially less now for Robertson but Jones' value could go up with some success as a closer in the first half and be traded for a haul in July when teams are more desperate. If the Nat's offered a nice package for Robertson I'd go ahead and take it, then move on. If Jones has success as a closer in the first half his value would jump alot. He would no longer be sold as a setup arm and instead as a Closer. Combine that with his contract and he makes for a very cheap and appealing closer at the deadline. -

QUOTE (pablo @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) Totally agree. The fit seems really logical but it's actually a hard deal to complete given the money, Nat's org depth, Eaton trade... I'd be upset with anything less than Soto/Kieboom for Robertson if he had a lot of value and was crucial to the rebuild. But he's just not a top closer like Chapman or Miller so maybe it's best to accept a deal from the Nats that works for both teams. It allows Jones to get some saves and increase his already high trade value who actually is really important to the rebuild. Glover is top notch bullpen arm and would be a nice get for Sox. Throws 98, nasty slider. I like the Glover idea. Pairing him with Burdi in the back end of the pen has all kinds of nasty potential.
