QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) Reed and Gallo only have their power in common. I get he bombed in his debut, but Reed has 243 K's in 1203 MiLB PA's. With Gallo you are talking about someone who had over 700 K's in 1700 ABs. In order for Reed to match him he would need to go to the minors and essentially strike out in 500 straight at bats. Reed also averaged 60 points higher BA, and about 35 points higher in OBP. Reed is much more of a professional hitter than Gallo ever will be. Thank you! I don't get how the term " sample size " can be used so often and yet does not apply to Reed. The guy had hit at every level until he made it to the majors. 141PA in his ML debut really is a small sample size. Cracks me up when people say he's a buy low prospect. No chance his value dropped that much from 141 PA's. Reed is still a valuable trade piece and I'd love to have him.

Shields, Gonzalez, Holland and Hammel in the same rotation? Lol, f*** yeah sign me up! My heart goes out to Rodon though. Poor guy.

Lol, and saga continues. The additional draft picks do make this more interesting.

I don't know. These kids have two baseball seasons to play before the June '18 draft. Hansen was talked about being a potential 1-1 before the start of the '16 college season and look how quickly he dropped after having some struggles. Since no one has said it yet, Just gimme the BPA!

FG projects Sox as having 3rd biggest fall off in defense

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) Jackson only played about 50 games or so last year. i was comparing him to all of the others that played there. However, it also looks like I was wrong about his defense being really good. GOtcha. I like Tilson and think he will improve defensively but I think he will make a better left fielder than center fielder. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 09:11 PM) Exactly my thoughts Yeah, sorry about that. I noticed your post after I posted mine. I'm definitely thinking the same thing you are. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) Pirates need to cave on Meadows then try to low ball the Sox on the other pieces. Once they can agree on the headliner I think the chances of a trade greatly improve. Based on all our thinking that the Sox want Meadows as the headliner . I've given up on Pitt since they are so bent on keeping Meadows. Just don't think they have enough to offer without Meadows.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 04:28 PM) I wouldn't think it would be that drastic of a change. Cabrera will be the same. They lose with Eaton gone but improve with Tilson in CF and I would think a better CF is more valuable than a decrease in RF. I'm guessing those projections were based on Melky in LF and Avi in RF. Both are below average defensively and can be absolute nightmares to watch on the field. I like Tilson in CF but how much of an improvement is he defensively over AJax? AJax played a pretty good CF last year so I'm really not sold on the perceived upgrade at this point. Now if the Sox can get both Avi and Melky off the field, then the outfield could look much more lively out there if we see players like Bourjos, Engel, May thrown into the mix. Screw it. Just DFA Avi, move Melky to DH, throw Tilson in LF, Engel in CF, Bourjos in RF. They won't hit much but at least their defense should save some wear and tear on the pitchers. Plus, their lack of hitting will add to the TANK FOR BEER '18 campaign. -
Tired of the Astros and Pirates. Would like to see another team come in out of nowhere and make an offer Hahn can't refuse. Sick of Luhnow and Huntington.

No surprise really. The OF defense has to be dragging these projections down. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 09:14 AM) Frazier was interviewed on MLB network earlier today. He was asked twice about the two big trades of Sale and eaton this past offseason. Both times his replies were that Sale is a great ballplayer and the team will miss him but they got some really good players for him to get younger and better. Not once did he even mention Eaton so I think it's safe to say what he thought of Eaton. Wouldn't inciting a conspiracy be against the board rules? There's no doubt in my mind that Frazier and Eaton are still besties so please stop with the NASCAR circular logic. Sorry, couldn't resist.

So how long before the next Yanks rumor? Isn't it their turn to toss their hat back into the mix?

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Luken Baker is an excellent 2018 draft prospect as well And he's from Texas. Waylon Jennings would be proud.

The Sox tanking the '17 season to be in position to draft Beer ( ha ha ) in '18 makes much more sense of the JAMES SHIELDS trade. Sheer genius! A healthy JAMES SHIELDS could easily give the Sox a -10 WUR ( Wins Under Replacement) which should translate to 20 losses easily. This means that JAMES SHIELDS is the Sox Harry Potter in their quest for Beer! f***-An-A!!!

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 18s19 seconds ago More Pirates OF Josh Bell will be out 2-4 weeks after undergoing knee surgery, and #Pirates unsure whether he'd be ready by opening day. Wonder if this has anything to do with how the Xmas eve deal fell apart. -
I don't doubt the Rangers interest but if Mazara isn't headlining I don't see how the Rangers pull it off. Hopefully this lights a fire under Luhnow's ass.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 01:39 AM) No, no, that's WAY light, IMO. I would go for Alford, Urena, Tellez, McGuire. Look at the Ken Giles trade, Astros traded two top 100 prospects, plus their 2nd RD pick that year, plus another arm. That trade along with the infamous Dave Stewart trade aren't the best examples. What I mean is you can't always count on finding a sucker. Both of those trades had alot of baseball people scratching their heads. If Hahn can find a sucker that's great but I'm not counting on it. Plus, part of Giles value was his age, years of control, cheap salary and a Closer, all of which made Giles more valuable at that time than Jones is now. Jones is a setup for the Closer. Now, if Robertson is traded before the season begins and Jones can become a successful Closer, then we can start aiming higher towards the likes of the Giles trade. But not at this point. Put it this way. Would you trade Alford, Urena, McGuire and Tellez for setup arm? I sure as hell wouldn't and would be pissed if the Hahn did something like that.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) So far, they'e turned Duke (it started then), Sale and Eaton into Moncada, Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Basabe, Tilson, Dunning, Diaz. Pretty good start. Exactly. Part of my optimism for this rebuild is Hahn had very good assets to kick-start the rebuild. How many times you think Theo cursed Hendry's name the first few years of their rebuild? Hendry left nothing but devastation in his wake. Ha Ha! The Sox still have assets to trade that will bring back more talent to go with the June draft and July international signings. Imagine what the farm will look like when August rolls around. -

BlackSox13 replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not in the least bit concerned about when Q goes. The rumors over the last two seasons said Hahn and KW were split on the direction of the team. KW and JR pushing to contend with Hahn looking to rebuild. Unfortunately the contending route didn't work so now begins a rebuild. Not "retooling on the fly" no "3 year window" nonsense, an actual rebuild. Hahn knows all eyes are on him so it looks like Hahn is being very calculated and taking his time to make sure he gets this right the first time around because there won't be a second. He knows he needs to maximize every trade. To me, this is his baby and there's no middle ground so here either comes out of this rebuild looking like a genius or looking for another job. Personally, I think Hahn will do just fine. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 06:39 PM) If i'm trading Jones to the Jays, Urena is coming back in the deal. Not that I wouldn't want Urina but he wouldn't be necessary for Jones. If it were up to me the package would be Urina, McGuire and Tellez but that's probably too much for Jones.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) It's not like anyone is forced to read this thread. Just don't open it if you don't want to. It's that's simple. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) Exactly, how can someone get their number of posts up if they don't post frivolous things in frivolous threads. I feel the same way gents. It's a thread for discussing rumors and trade proposals about Q. No one is forcing anyone to read. If people want to know if there's any recent news for Q, I suggest googling Jose Quintana or check out twitter. That's what I do and I don't even have a twitter account. Find something new or interesting, feel free to share with the rest of us. -
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 05:24 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal now Sources: Howell deal with #BlueJays in $3M range. Team still looking for RHR at similar price. No recent talks with #WhiteSox on Robertson. Nate Jones fits exactly what hey are looking for. Jones would make more sense for Toronto than Robertson would. Anyone care to take a stab at what Toronto would offer for Jones? Reid-Foley, McGuire, Tellez too much to ask? Sounds a bit high, not sure.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) Throw in Eddy Martinez and I am good. Works for me too. I wouldn't object to Caratini as a fourth piece either. I think Happ, Jimenez , Candelario plus one of Martinez/Caratini is pretty reasonable for both sides.
