  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) The Yankees part of the deal never made sense. No it did not. I'm not saying the rumors were false, just didn't make sense for the Yanks unless somehow the trade had Cole going to the Yanks with Cutch. This trade might have had more moving pieces than we know of.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 11:38 PM) You guys are all missing the point here(you're not), we can have Tilson and Bourjos starting together!! Nice. I think Bourjos defense alone puts him in the mix for a starting spot ( surely Q wouldn't mind). The DH is open ( insert Melky here) so there's three OF spots up for grabs. Tilson, Bourjos, Avi, Leury, Ashe, W.Garcia and Liriano is the pickins to choose from with Engel May at Charlotte. Nothing pretty in that bunch but thankfully there's beer, if ya have enough. I think it's possible we see something like Tilson in CF, Bourjos in LF with the rest of the misfits fighting for RF and a bench spot or two. OOF! It's just not looking too pretty. No wonder the Sox insist on Meadows. Sigh, we better hope Engel turns into something ...
  3. Must have been the Yanks coming to their senses and realizing McCutchen is not a fit considering the Yanks depth in the outfield at both the big league club and their minors. Could have been an interesting trade. Wonder what players were potentially heading to the Sox. Glasnow, Rutherford, Newman ++?
  4. Nothing wrong with giving Bourjos a shot at backing up Tilson for CF. Wouldn't suck having an actual center fielder for a back up. Bourjos buys the Sox time to see what kind of a start Engel and May get off to down in Charlotte.
  5. I think looking to keep Frazier around through the '19 season isn't a bad idea. As others have pointed out, Frazier is a great teammate and leader for the youth movement. He won't be in high demand next winter in FA so his salary and contract demands won't be crazy. If Frazier at least puts up the same numbers as last season ( hopefully better BA) I'd offer 2/30M with a mutual option for a third year in 2020.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) I have a feeling that something will happen soon. You just jinxed it. Stop it already or Q will never be traded!
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) This feels so liberating.... Ha ha, I just did this on Wednesday and it feels so good.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) Yikes. All I will say. Lol, ST can not get here soon enough! I do agree with Rosenthal that the deadline could be insane. There should be rumors galore leading to the deadline. Should be alot of fun.
  9. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 02:46 AM) Those Pirates and Astros offers aren't even remotely close to being of equal value. You'd have to add Bell and Newman to that Pirates offer to start comparing. Those are not offers but lists of players the Sox could be interested in. The list is incomplete since we've seen other names mentioned from all of those teams. I only posted it for reading purposes to pass the time. Nothing new or credible really.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 05:23 PM) There is something fishy here. 1. A sprained finger will not take 3 months to heal. 2. they don't do an MRI for a healing sprained finger 3 months into healing. My guess is something along the lines of a volar plate injury, misdiagnosed as a sprain, which is quite easy to do. Hopefully, there isn't much laxity in the finger. Once again I thank you for your insights. Do you think the Sox could be trying to downplay nature of the injury so it does not hurt Frazier's trade value? I know Frazier does not have much of a market but an injury more serious would likely make it even more difficult to trade him than it already is.
  11. Talk about panicking over nothing. What is this thread about anymore? f*** it, kill it bmags and do the entire board a favor.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) AKA having a guy on the team that isn't particularly liked by the opposition. Can you imagine Lawrie and Kopech in the same locker room day in day out? Man crush city! I think their ladies would have something to worry about. Luckily for those ladies Lawrie will be gone before Kopech reaches the majors. I suppose it's possible for a " strangers in the night" encounter during ST.
  13. Since we're talking minor leaguers, I think Hansen will dominate as he ascends through the system and finishes the year in Birmingham with potential to start the '18 season in Charlotte. I really think Hansen was THE steal of the '16 draft.
  14. QUOTE (beautox @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 08:30 PM) Jordan Guerrero Good call. Don't know what happened to him last year with his walk rate sky rocketing. Been following him for a few years and he had pretty good control so I'm hoping that maybe his arm was a little tired from building up his innings over the last few years.
  15. JAMES. SHIELDS. Not sure what the expectations are but I think Timmeh, Rodon, Abreu and Robertson all perform better than last year. A healthy Charlie Tilson could be a surprise and become the teams new lead off hitter for years to come. With the Sox rebuilding it could take enough pressure off of Avi to the point where he exceeds expectations but that is a hell of a stretch and wouldn't bet my house on it. I would however bet all of the Soxtalk members house's on Avi.
  16. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) Hahn has 2-3 years to trade Quintana if he wants to The market may very well be tapped out right now and it might actually be best to reevaluate at the trade deadline Fleecing a contender at the deadline would really feel great I have no problem holding onto Q if teams aren't willing to pay what he's worth. The gamble though is it gives Oakland and the Rays time for Gray and Archer to rebound. It's tough as a fan because we don't really know Q's value or exactly what's been offered for him. All we can do is speculate, which really sucks.
  17. It's become clear to me that a trade with the Pirates is not happening. With Meadows and Bell reportedly off the table and Glasgow having control/command/change-up issues, Huntington and the Pirates are just not a fit. I still think it's possible Q is traded, just not to the Pirates. Still curious about what the Braves may have offered. Not really buying the Newcomb rumor since he's the closest to the majors and expected to replace one of the geriatrics at some point this season.
  18. Wouldn't be surprised in the least bit about Eaton. If true, then go ahead and extend Todd Frazier! Eaton had supposedly rubbed a few players wrong in AZ so it would come as no surprise if he did the same in Chicago. Shame because he's a hell of a ball player. Oh well, he gawn.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) I nominate this for top post of all three Q threads.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) The combined Q threads remind me of a NASCAR race. Lots of going in circles with a few crashes and fires along the way. Ha ha, somehow I just knew you would get the reference.
  21. RIP and condolences to all friends and family of both players. No amount of money can help a person make a rational decision under the influence of alcohol. It is up to the individual to make the right choices in life. Money from the MLB would not have prevented Marte from driving too fast or Ventura from drinking then driving. In the end it was poor decision making by these men that led to their deaths. The best people can hope for is that others will learn from the mistakes of Marte, Ventura and Fernandez to help prevent things like this from happening in the future.
  22. This thread desperately needs a new credible rumor to discuss or a merciful death. Talk about NASCAR!
  23. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 21, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) I would get so much satisfaction from the Astros rotation completely blowing it next season. I think you are going to be very satisfied my fellow Sox fan. I think Luhnow knows his starting pitching looks like Swiss cheese and is why he's reluctant to move their young minor league pitching because he knows he will need them at some point. Keuchel pitched more like Danks last year, McCullers only pitched 81 innings, McCugh is pretty much a #4, Morton on pitched 17 innings last year and I have no idea what to expect from Musgrove but I do think he will be solid. IMHO, aside from Musgrove that rotation is a mess and needs more than just one durable starter. That Houston offense is going to have to mash day in day out to compete in that division because their starting staff is going to give up plenty of runs. They finished third in their division last year and two games behind second place Seattle who I don't think they gained any ground on at all and it's possible they lost ground on Seattle so far this winter. As of now I think the Texas and Seattle teams are still better despite the offensive additions made by Houston.
  24. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) I have a lot of interest in Reed as a buy low candidate in a Q package. I think he still has a chance to be at least an everyday guy with the All-Star upside. Martes - Tucker - Reed - Laureano would be the package I would shoot for, three close to MLB pieces with at least second division starter floors and a high upside guy in Tucker. It doesn't touch the Astros roster this year or affect their ability to compete over the next couple seasons and gives the Sox another good arm to add to the death star. With Houston I'm thinking along the lines of 1) Martes/Tucker/Reed/Fisher 2) Martes/Tucker/Reed/Stubbs and Laureano or Martin 3) Tucker/Whitley/Reed/Fisher/Stubbs. Those are the packages that interest me most but admittedly have no clue iany of those are close or if the Sox Astros would be interested in such proposals. More me thinking out loud more than anything.
