  1. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) Melky had a very good year last year. I am not sure why he didn't get moved yet, but I think there is a decent chance his value drops. Hopefully he puts up good numbers the first half and has value at the deadline but he is 32 and we could also see a decline as well. Better and cheaper options are available than Melky. The Yanks, Astros and Rockies have a gluttony of out fielders available.
  2. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) Well Reed was pretty hopeless, there's definitely reason to be down on him. Reed hit well in AAA before his callup and was the top 1B prospect going into the 2016 season. I see no reason to be down on a 23 year old with roughly 150 major league atbats. Plenty of players struggle when they move up. Just my opinion but I think Reed would benefit playing on the rebuilding White Sox since there's no pressure to contend.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) I looked at an Astros board earlier and someone suggested Martes, Tucker, Fisher, and Reed. I'd probably do that. I would take that and I think I posted something similar not long ago. Don't get why some are down on Reed and Fisher.
  4. I think what it boils down to for fans is do they trust Hahn? If you trust Hahn then there's no reason to worry but if you don't then I can understand being worried. This Sox fan is not in the least bit worried.

  6. Valbuena is off the board and is now an Angel. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/ange...p;post-id=83259
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) If that is truly how the Rockies think they are full of hot air or just downplaying Q's abilities. Just look at their best 5 starters from 2016. Of Gray ,Anderson , De La Rosa, Chatwood and Bettis only Gray had a better K/9 than Q. They all had higher ERA and WHIP than Q and that's in a league without the DH. Trying to predict how Q would do in Colorado is a fools errand, He'd have 1 less professional hitter to face and if his curveball was hurting him he would make adjustments. He's no dummy out on the bump. He would instantly become no worse than their 2nd best starting pitcher. Could not agree more. It is nitpicking Q considering the same thing can be said about any pitchers breaking ball at Coors. I think one that could help counter that point is that Q moving to the NL should help to lower his ERA and add to his strike outs. Colorado didn't seem too concerned about curve balls at Coors when they traded for Hoffman who is known for having a big curve ball. Hell, they called him up last year and he pitched 31 innings. In the end, Colorado is posturing.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) Would anyone be any happier with Justin Upton's performance? Probably not. His overall stats look decent, but he was absolutely terrible for the first half of the season, and his intermittent hot streaks in the second half weren't enough to push the Tigers back into it, not with JD Martinez out for most of the year and the starting rotation after Verlander and Fulmer struggling. In the end, even in the "best case" scenario of those three outfielders, we'd have pretty dramatically overpaid for Cespedes for one year and have almost nothing left right now to show for it except an even more middling first round draft pick. That's not counting Heyward, Fowler and Desmond as part of the conversation. I would be happier with Upton because he did hit better and is younger but that's just me, others may feel differently. As for the rest of your post, I definitely agree.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 07:08 PM) Thank you for posting this. Drives me crazy seeing people lump Frazier into the one-dimensional slugger category when he's a solid 3B. Same here. It's not that Frazier doesn't have value, he most certainly does. The problem is that there is not many teams interested in Frazier because they already have a 3B or they are rebuilding. I think it's the lack of suitors that hurts Frazier's value more than anything.
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 06:20 PM) Yep, pretty wild how the market shifted so fast in just a couple years. All the sluggers have had lower than projected contracts this off-season. ... And the waiting game continues. It shifted pretty quick didn't it. I think some of the factors are... 1) the number of teams rebuilding 2) stricter penalties for going over the salary threshold 3) more teams realizing that in general, most veterans in that 30+ year old range decline during the new contract. 4) as we've seen the last few years with the Sox, the contracts of Melky, LaRoche and Danks have hindered future moves. Remember last year when Hahn said he would have to get creative in order to make a run at Cespedes/Upton/Gordon? The LaRoche and Danks contracts definitely hindered that. I think a perfect example is Alex Gordon. He recieved a guaranteed three year deal for 60M and regressed in '16. Can you imagine the b****ing that would be going on right now if it had been the Sox that signed Gordon? All I can say is thank you KC.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) I bet all of Greg's houses that Avi doesn't have a break out year. At this point I wont even say that I hope I'm wrong because Avi isn't having a break out year, ever. This post gets a well deserved BAZINGA!
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) 25 instagrams, 2000 protein shakes, 6 new tattoos, 3 months on the DL. Most accurate post so far. Well done. I'm thinking he also adds 2 or 3 inches to his vertical leap.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) Interesting Glasnow news, since he is related to Q News: Black Beard’s Delight: Hey ENO! I read an interesting article on Tyler Glasnow this week. He is shortening his delivery and the Pirates are giving him his 2 seam back. Mainly just wanted to share that with you, but does that improve your outlook on him? 12:31 Eno Sarris: If he can throw the two-seam to the middle of the plate because he has confidence in the movement, maybe one or both combined will help his command. He would take a huge leap forward if he could just get ahead more often because the curve is great. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/eno-sarris-...all-chat-11917/ If Glasnow could learn to throw a good two-seam for strikes with his 6'7" frame, the pitch would have some serious downward angle making it very difficult for batters to barrel up. If I remember right one of the things that made Doc Halladay so successful was throwing a two-seam from his 6'6" frame. Well, that and dude had amazing cammand and control of his pitches.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) Its interesting to see the reaction of some of the other teams fans on twitter to this trade thanking the Marlins for F'ing up their teams chances of landing Q. LOL The reality is that the price is not going down and its just clicking now with some of the fans. That's just too funny. Sounds like those fans underestimated Q's value as well as the overestimated the value of their own prospects. Sorry Marlin fans but ya never had a chance.
  15. Yep, I am in agreement with those that say Paulie is not a hall of famer. He's a White Sox hall of famer but not an MLB hall of famer.
  16. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 08:12 AM) Can we trade them Miguel Gonzalez for Braxton Garrett please? I like your thinking here but if the Marlins didn't give up Garrett in the Straily trade he won't be moving for Gonzalez.
  17. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) Fair enough, where was RH quoted saying the first thing you said? (I trust that he said it.) Sure, here ya go. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...ing-force-thing
  18. Chuck Garfien ‏@ChuckGarfien PODCAST: Zack Collins on hitting, catching in majors (says he's ready) & Cubs fans calling him a Schwarber wanna be. If Collins sticks at catcher, wouldn't Schwarber be a Collins wanna be? Oh well, that cracked me up when I read it so I thought I would share.
  19. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 07:20 AM) Royal Blood f***ing rules. Absolutely! Wish they would give a specific release date on the new album. Cheeky lil monkeys.
  20. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 08:51 AM) Don't you see Jose Quintana demanding $150 million from the white sox. By the time Q is a FA he will be just about 32 years old. I think only Dave Stewart would be dumb enough to pay 150M for Q. Besides, Q will be replaced long before he gets to FA.
  21. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 08:12 AM) No, but my idea is something I definitely would have used on Williams back in the day since he's the kind of guy who allows things to get to him. I would like to see how Hahn responds to questions about the rebuild though, because we are at the point in the offseason where there's nothing going on and we patiently have to wait for spring training to start. Hahn has already said due to market demand or lack thereof, trading away assets for the rebuild could take the rest of this year. I think Frazier is gone by the deadline and if Melky hits like Melky he might be too. That leaves Robertson which if he pitches well could be gone by the deadline or next winter. Bottom line is Hahn can't force teams to trade for the players he wants to trade. I agree with on KW. If he was running the rebuild there probably would be a bit more out there but Hahn is extremsly quiet when it comes to leaking info.
  22. A thread for a kid that won't be drafted for another year and a half? This will end well.
  23. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 11:24 PM) Can I please write a script that injects a post after everyone else's post that says: "PLEASE GOD MAKE IT STOP". I'd only leave it on until he's traded. Pretty please? Too much fruit and fiber in your diet? Try eating more bread, rice and crackers.
  24. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 10:38 PM) Will anyone going to SoxFest go to a Q&A with RH and grill him? Beat him up a bit and see what he says about Quintana? The lack of rumors and disagreement over what to do with Quintana now and at the deadline is driving me crazy. If Hahn was willing to speak more on his trade negotiations for Q, it would already be out there. Hahn is not going to give in to fan peer pressure, nor should he.
  25. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 10:22 PM) I've seen many people use it. i'm not a fan of it as it tries to teach how to throw too hard and thus really put a great deal of strain on the UCL while pitching. Not a fan of the kids attitude of trying to throw that hard. Really sets him up for injuries in the future. What you speak of is exactly what happened to Kolek. Just before the draft I read an article that painted Kolek as being a bit too focused on his FB velocity. The article mentioned something about how he went to his father one day bragging about how his velocity had jumped up. His triple digit FB was continuously mentioned throughout the article. Well, we all know what happened to Kolek. Not saying it will happen with Kopech but like many have said, he would be much better off learning to control his FB at a lower vslocity than adding more velocity to it. Hopefully he will realise this.
