Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 09:17 PM) Unless it's Bellinger, almost everyone seems to be totally against the idea of acquiring anyone who will end up at 1B/DH/corner outfield. Whether it's Josh Bell, AJ Reed, Gallo, Judge...the pendulum has almost swung back too far the other way and needs to correct a bit again. Of course, when you look at DH/LF/RF results for much of the last decade, the White Sox have been bottom feeders. It's not THAT easy to find elite or even very good hitters, even if they are relatively one-dimensional. I don't get the objections to Reed and Bell. Look at the production the Sox have been getting from the DH spot and most of us would agree that Abreu should be a DH so getting a 1B as part of a package for Q is fine with me. Not like the Sox have better options for 1B in the minors. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) I sincerely hope that has something to do with automotive needs and not a sex toy shop. We're really scratching the bottom of the barrel on corporate/giveaway sponsors these days. Luckily TL makes automotive lubricants so we're safe, for now.

QUOTE (JRL @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) This is a silly "all or nothing" way of looking at it. If the only choices are either a) keeping Quintana for 4 more years or b) 4-5 wide range of outcome (high high upside/low low downside) prospects, sure, it would probably make more sense to jettison Quintana for those guys. Of course, (a) is not really an option at all. I think 99.9% of Sox fans and interested baseball observers agree that Quintana will not finish out the entirety of his current contract with the Sox. It's just a matter of when he is traded, and the type of package he is traded for. That's really the question. This hypothetical Astros package vs other potential packages for Quintana. Of course that's hard to do, since it's pretty much entirely speculation as to what is currently on the table for Quintana, be it this conjured 4-5 wide range of outcome (high high upside/low low downside) prospect package from Houston or any alternatives. I don't know what else to say in all honesty. I've already explained in my last two or three posts where I was coming from and why I actually like the package of Tucker/Reed/Fisher/Stubbs +. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 07:37 PM) High possibility none of them do but this club is in a position to take that risk. Agreed. I think a better way to look at it is what will do more for the long haul on a rebuilding Sox team, 4-5 hitting prospects or 4 more years of Q? I'll take the prospects and the risks that come with them thank you. We all know the Sox need help at 2B,3B, C, DH and all three outfielders positions. Acquiring Reed 1B/DH, Fisher OF, Tucker OF, Stubbs C adds more quality hitting prospects to an organization that really needs them. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 07:07 PM) I'd do this if Laureano was included. 5 high upside hitters for Q? I'll take that all day. Laureano or Martin would work for me. I would prefer Laureano but I like Martin's LHB too. Now if only we could get Luhnow to see things our way. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Man, seems like that'd be a nice deal for HOU. I wouldn't complain about recieving an MLB ready 1B masher, a AAA OF with speed/power/OBP, a AA Catcher with defense/arm/hit tool and OBP, a 4 tool talent in Tucker. Would be a really nice boost to a system deprived of quality hitters. -

Awe hell, let's just skip Martes and make the package Tucker, Reed, Fisher and Stubbs. Doubt Houston would do that but I would. -

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) The more footage I watch of Martes the more he screams out reliever to me. Concerns is his delivery, being able to hold is velocity in the latter innings, and body(lack of conditioning). I wouldn't be too concerned about it since Giolito, Fulmer, Lopez and Kopech all come with some concerns as well. Many scouts thought Rodon would end up a reliever due to his mechanics and lack of control but so far he's proven all the naysayers wrong with how quickly he's improved in such a short time. I see it this way when it comes to trading for pitching. Given the Sox history of success with young pitching, if they were to trade for Martes then I like his chances even more sticking as a starting pitcher. I do trust the Sox eye for evaluating young pitching talent. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) I'm going to keep saying it, but give me Martes, Tucker, Reed, plus one other piece. How much fun would this rotation be to follow in 2018? 1. Rodon 2. Giolito 3. Martes 4. Lopez 5. Fulmer Add Stubbs and I think that deal is pretty tempting for both sides. Sox get good depth from four players that cover every level from A+ to the MLB. Theres alot of wicked talent in that rotation. If all goes well, by then Kopech should be in AAA and Hansen in AA. -
I would love to have a Hawk alarm clock. Would be fun to call a few friends over and recreate the copier scene from Office Space. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta!

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) Sorry if I didn't continue on. Hahn knows that a deal is out there, but he really wants to see what can happen by waiting Remember the Sale deal took a year of negotiation with Boston to finally happen. Discussions on Quintana were never very serious until Sale got dealt. It takes time to really gauge what the market is Sox can compromise, but the other side will have to compromise as well OK, I think we're on the same track.Too many people think it's the buyer or the seller that sets the value of a player but that's one dimensional thinking and it's wrong. The seller has an idea of what he's looking to sell for and the buyer has an idea of how much they will spend, when the two parties come to an agreement on the price, THAT is the actual value for the player. Before negotiations begin, the players true value is not really defined and just being speculated on. If my car is said to be worth 5k, I'm not going to start the asking price at 5k. I'm going to start the asking price higher than what I look to recieve because I know that anyone looking to buy that car is going to try and lower the price in negotiations. -
QUOTE (FT35 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) Maybe plug Saladino in at 3rd for his D and sign Carter to DH. You keep your production and shed 10 Million. It's a solid plan provided the Sox find team willing to trade for Frazier.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) A deal not getting done yet does not mean the Sox need to compromise. The Pirates and Astros would absolutely love to have Quintana, but neither wants to overpay if they do not have to. Right now the Sox are porbably looking at: Pirates offer of Glasnow + Newman ++ or Astros offer of Martes + Tucker + Paulino Neither is worth moving Quintana in my opinion, both are light You completely missed the point in my post. -
If things don't work out for Kepech in baseball he could have a great career in the game of Cricket.

I'm sure Hahn will come down to some extent. When it comes to selling something you always put it up for sale for more than you expect in return in anticipation of negotiating with a buyer(s). The fact that teams are still negotiating with Hahn despite knowing his very high price tells me something will eventually happen. Hahn is just patiently waiting to see which team makes the best offer that makes the most sense for the Sox. -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 04:28 PM) No way we deal Quintana within the division to the Indians. Nor would they be the highest bidder and drain their entire farm to a rival Dodgers have not shown willingness to part with top prospects Blue jays don't have the prospects in my opinion, compared to other suitors Rangers? They would have to part with MLB talent and don't want to Agree on all except for the Jays. As long as players like Torres, Meadows, Frazier, Bell, Swanson, Bregman etc are supposedly off the table then that makes it easier for the Jays to get into the mix. I do admit that the Jays are a team that will have to offer more players in a trade due to the lack of top 50 talent but if they were willing to offer the right players they could make a tempting offer. For me it would take something like Urena, Reid-Foley, McGuire, Tellez +. But that's based on those named players being off the table but if any of those teams put those players on the table then Toronto will have a difficult time staying competitive in negotiations unless the Sox are good with the idea of of receiving more players in a trade. Hopefully this wraps up soon and we can all move on to complaining about how it's taking so long to trade Frazier/Robertson and DFA Avi/Lawrie.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) The dude would be 42 by the end of that contract. Yuck. There in lies the conundrum I was trying to illustrate. Take the aging vet that's still productive or the 27 year old with a s***ty bat and eventual declining defense. There's no right or wrong really, just a matter of preference is all. I wouldn't want either player on the Sox. -

Luhnow looking more and more like a dumb dog chasing its tail. Not long ago when Luhnow didn't like Hahn's asking price for Q, he moved on to Duffy/Ventura and then a few weeks later back in discussions for Q again. Now they supposedly have their eye on Gray, lol. Go ahead Luhnow, trade for anyone of Duffy/Ventura/Gray and add them to the problematic pitchers you already have. Feel free to call the Sox when you give up on childish bluffs and your balls drop which will allow you to pony up for the best available SP on the trade market. -

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) I think you are just bored and hopeful like the rest of us White Sox fans. It's been awhile since that Eaton blockbuster. Ha ha, no doubt it. -
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) Love all the people trying to push Collins out of C when they've never even seen the kid play. All reports have him making good progress and it hasn't even been a full year yet. Collins is the C of the future until he proves he can't do it at the MLB level. If his catching was as bad as people around here make it out to be he would have been moved already. Anyway...I still find it hard to believe the Astros don't finally get the deal done. Been saying all along that it makes way too much sense for them. I'd rather see us get a haul from the Yankees though. Frazier, Mateo/Rutherford, Kaprielian/Sheffield is my preferred package. Sounded like Cashman is balking at that but who knows, could all just be posturing. Nobody is pushing Collins out at catcher, just not willing to assume he sticks at catcher so adding a bit of catching depth makes absolute sense.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 11:55 AM) You say he writes about rumors after they had been written about elsewhere, but here he confirmed a rumor reported last week...but you say that's not what he's doing here? I'm confused. I know what you mean and please let me explain. I've noticed when Levine writes about rumors those rumors have just been reported by another writer but that's not the case here. Levine is confirming teams have upped their offers, like we heard last week from Rumbunter but the two rumors are unrelated in that Levine got his info from his source and Rumbunter got their info from their source. Two unrelated sources confirming the same thing within a week of one another. Believe it or not, I'm trying to give Levine some credit which is unusual for me. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) Heyward. Younger, more tools, better D, higher chance at more value over the lifetime of that contract with a greater rebound chance. Nice question. I lean towards Bautista myself. I have little hope for Heyward's bat and for now his defense is carrying him but as that 6'5" 240lb frame ages his defense will drop off. Just thought I would ask to pass a little time and perhaps, some gas. -

Can't believe I'm doing this but in all fairness to Levine, this is how the media works. My biggest complaint about Levine is when he writes about rumors after they had been written about elsewhere. That's not the case this time. While he didn't drop any names he at least confirmed teams had upped their offers which goes with the Hahn/Pirates rumor reported last week by Rumbunter. -

Who will be today's conductor to strike up the band? Will it be Bruce Levine, Bob Nightengale, Ken Rosenthal, Scott Merkin, Phil Rogers, Jon Heyman or Chuck Garfien? One of them is bound to strike up some conversation. Maybe Levine comes out with some more tidbits in relation to his article yesterday. -
QUOTE (glangon @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 06:39 AM) Damn. Oh well. I still think we should be looking at catching prospects to try and improve what we have in the minors Definitely. Many here share that same view. With catchers I'm more concerned with good defense, game calling, arm strength and framing. I don't ask for too much offensively other be able to make good contact to move runners over or drive in a run from third base. Anything more than that is a bonus in my eyes. Haven't seen the Jays connected to Q and I'm not counting on it but if they jumped into the mix they have interesting pieces to facilitate a trade. Urena, Reid-Foley, Alford, McGuire, Tellez and Guerrero Jr are pretty interesting prospects. They also have Pentecost who still has a good bat but doesn't look like he will stick at catcher due to two surgeries on his throwing shoulder. Pentecost would be an interesting fourth or fifth piece. I'm hoping the Nats come around on Robertson with Severino as part of the return for the Sox. If the Astros trade for Q I'm hoping Stubbs is part of the package.
