  1. QUOTE (glangon @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 05:36 AM) I think the Pirates have a greater selection of prospects. I'd like to see if we could possibly include Reese McGuire in that haul. I still think that we are woefully short in catching depth. Outwith Collins, we really don't have many catching prospects at all. McGuire is with Toronto now.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 11:43 PM) 6 years - 150 million Book it. : Riddle me this poop-meister. It's an all out fugly royale between Bautista and that contract or Heyward and his contract. Which poop do you choose good sir?
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 11:33 PM) Levine was clearly told that teams are upping their offers. He's been at Cubs Convention felting players and coaches all weekend. He wouldn't have taken a break to write about Q unless he got something IMO. I'm one of the bigger critics of Levine but I agree with you. He heard something and that something goes with Rumbunter recently saying Hahn had gone back to the Pirates for a counter offer because teams had upped their offers for Q. I still wonder if Theo is waiting in the weeds.
  4. Jesse Sanchez ‏@JesseSanchezMLB Source: #BlueJays have emerged as the front-runner for Jose Bautista. He's nearing a deal with the club. #Toronto @mlb
  5. I think he ends up with the Astros but prefer a trade with the Rockies or the cubs. I do like what the Astros have to offer so I won't complain if Q ends up in Houston.
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 06:54 PM) With Moncada knocking on the door, there's no way Saladino gets second if they long term plans for him. That's the beauty of having a guy like Saladino is his versatility. He can man second until Moncada is ready. Not like Saladino will inhibit Moncada's eventual call up.
  7. Would love to see Saladino get the nod at second. Prefer to keep Saladino but his over all game and years of control could have some interesting trade value if he hits well.
  8. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) I have compared the stats of the top prospects from all the mentioned teams, and IMO the best numbers belong to the Cubs' prospects. Unfortunately. Just numbers, obviously, since I haven't seen them play. I'm with you oldsox. I really like the bats of Happ, Jimenez and Candelario. Also like that Happ and Candelario are switch hitters.
  9. I don't know enough about the kid to say go for it or not but if the Sox do, having a good history with past cuban Sox players as well as current players Abreu and Moncada could help. Well, that and a substantial contract offer won't hurt either.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 07:08 AM) I was leaning the non-tender way too, but with Coats gone I just don't know. Right now, Melky & Tilson (if healthy) are the only guarantees. Engel & May probably need more time in AAA regardless of how they look in spring training. Willy Garcia sucks so I'd be shocked if he made the team. That leaves two available spots between Liriano, Asche, & Avi Garcia. My guess is that Liriano & Avi win those spots. I can't think of anyone else that I'm missing. Leury Garcia could be in the OF mix as well, but I think he only makes the team as a super-sub type (and theoretical 5th OF). At this point, I think it's more and more likely that Avi Garcia is on our 25 man roster come opending day. Could not agree more with your post. It sucks to say this but I feel Avi wins a spot by default due to the lack of talent from his competition in ST. Interesting thought is that Ashe is a LHB which could give him a leg up and force a RHB competition between Willy, Liriano and Avi to which I would expect Avi wins. Would love to see Willy go to ST and steal the show for Sox outfielders but looking at his numbers reminds me too much of Tank so I keep pretty low expectations, like almost none. Even if he had a mosterous ST it would probably take an epic failure from Avi for Willy to make the team.
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 11:57 PM) How does this thread get 10 pages a day when NOTHING is happening? Boredom.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 09:09 PM) Its funny, I had digestive issues actually in my early/mid twenties because of drinking, and thats also when I met my wife. I would polish off a fifth of bourbon before going out sometimes like it was nothing. Sometimes before work I'd drink a 6 pack of beer driving home from vernon hills and then drink all night at work. My doctor reviewed my habits (I was honest) and simply told me I wouldnt have a stomach if I continued that much longer. Nexium saved me from my GERD and my ulser cleared up. I stopped any type of brown liquor for almost 10 years. I'm back into bourbon (whenever I drink again) but only to sip. My favorite thing was grab a 2 liter of coke and a fifth of Jim beam black and just kill it while pre gaming. So dumb Oh man, I've read about GERD and it sounds like it's no picknic. Good for you on getting things under control when you did. The first Gastro doc I went to told me after describing the plethora of problems I have that I have IBS and to come back and see him if they persisted. Yeah jackass as if chronic migraines, insomnia, constipation, digestive inflammation, pain and sciatica are just magically going to go away. So I went to a different gastro doc and he said IBS is nothing more than a blanket statement acknowledging there is a problem but don't know what exactly is the cause. Come to find out I'm now allergic to eggs ( never was before) and have a histamine intolerance so I have to eat foods that are lower in histamines along with taking anti-histamine OTC meds to help. I had been suspecting a histamine intolerance and in November when my wife were eating at the Marriott downtown before going to watch a few bands play live, we ordered room service. I had some Salmon dish with toasted French bread ( forget what it was called, something French) and about ten minutes after I finished eating I felt like I had just taken a hit off a joint except I noticed my equilibrium was off when I got up to take a leak. Bounced off the dresser and stumbled towards the bathroom and that's when my wife got concerned because she knew I was sobor. About an hour later I was fine and we went to the show and had a blast. That's when we knew and started eliminating certain foods and things slowly started getting better. My gastro doc wants to do an endoscopy to make sure there's no damage to my stomach and small intestines but that's going to have to wait until the funds are available so in the mean time I do whatever I got to do and take whatever I got to take to keep the pain and inflammation reduced to a tolerable level. I'll say this, it really sucks getting old and I'm just middle aged.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) Eventually it will. They were taxed in 2016. I think they can get under this year. If they keep their core together, and they are half as good as advertised, they will have an enormous payroll eventually. With just Hayward, Rizzo, Lester, and Zobrist signed, they have $68 million guaranteed in 2018. Wait until Russell, Schwarber, Bryant,. Baez get to their arbitration years and become more and more expensive. That Heyward contract is already an albatross but is hidden, for now, by the cubs winning but as players become more expensive that Heyward contract will come back to bite them in the ass. Back to Q. It would be a wise move by the cubs to check in on Q and especially for a team that that's likely to lose two starters to FA after the '17 season, does not develop pitching well, have said they draft hitter heavy to trade for pitching later and don't have any room for the foreseeable future for the minor leaguers the Sox would likely desire (Happ/Jimenez/Candelario) so it does make sense. Another aspect of this is kind of a pendulum effect in that if the Pirates trade for Q they conceivably gain ground on the division leading cubs but if the cubs trade for Q they get stronger and pull further away from Pitt. Would be a slick move by Theo to jump into the mix and steal Q from the Pirates or to at least try to drive the price up on them. I'm not saying the Sox/cubs will actually make a trade but they do fit very well as trade partners and makes for interesting discussions while we're bored.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) .000/.000/.000 More specifically, zero plate appearances and zero atbats.
  15. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) Royal Blood is incredible live. They were an early show at ACL and very few people were there, but by the time the first song had finished, the place was packed. Run the Jewels 3 is a great album. As far as what I'm looking forward to, the Shins have a new album coming out this year. They are great. Yeah man, Royal Blood blew me away the first time I heard them. I think what caught my attention first was the sound coming from Kerr's bass, nothing like I had ever heard before. Have you seen the teaser trailer RB put out on the net? It shows someone getting a tattoo of "2017" on their arm. IMHO, they are referencing the upcoming album followed by a tour. I do know they are playing Bonnaroo in June this year and I doubt they are pond hopping for one show only so I'd bet there will be a North American tour this summer. Man, there is alot of good music coming out of the UK and I'm hoping to catch em when they tour the US. I recently found a few local bands that have grown on me named Vamos, Twin Peaks and The Jetbirds. Had a chance to catch Vamos in November when they opened for a couple of Aussie bands at the Empty Bottle and funny enough that's where I met one of the band members from Twin Peaks so it was a blast. Also digging a band from Wisconsin band called Tenement. Dudes have written a ton of music the last few years and it's pretty good.
  16. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 02:27 AM) This will be my first time seeing any members of Pink Floyd live, so I am pretty excited. There is semi-recent Marc Maron WTF podcast with Roger that is worth listening to. I've seen Sigur Ros once before and its hard for me to explain, but it was probably the most emotionally moving concert I have ever seen and I was completely sober and did not understand one word of what they were singing. That's pretty special when a concert moves someone like that. I've been to a few concerts/shows that were more like a religious experience for me. Really don't know how else to explain it but it's pretty cool.
  17. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) I have tickets see Roger Waters & Sigur Ros within a week of each other later this year. Those should be great shows to catch Leonard. It's great that Waters is still writing after all these years and I'm looking forward to hearing the new music. Right now the wife and I are getting buzzed and watching a Royal Blood show from Reading festival in '15. I'll say one thing, they sound exactly like the album. They know how to put on a hell of a show! Edit: not sure when yet but Royal Blood has a new album coming out this year and I cannot wait to hear it. The first album was amazing and set the bar pretty high.
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) His injury is a big concern as well. That is not the organization I would would choose when coming back from the TOS surgery. That's tricky enough to begin with. Good point. Coming back from injury, how much gas will be left in the tank of that arm come September and beyond? I know Texas needed to do something, but Ross? I don't see Ross, his injury and pitching in the AL being a good recipe.
  19. I looked but didn't see the old music thread so I figured it was archived and would start another. Good place for tour dates, album debut's and overall music discussions. So, what are Soxtalk music fans looking forward to in '17? I'll add my thoughts once the thread gets going.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 06:22 PM) Hahaha great posts Once Quintana gets dealt we can preemptively start the "who should the sox draft number 11 overall?" Thread Yeah, no doubt about it. I think Future Sox has a thread for the '17 draft already so if we get really bored, we can spam that thread I suppose. OK, back on track... Again. Lol. With Ross signing in Texas I really wonder if the cubs jump into the mix for Q. I can't help but think that they have been sitting on the fringe the whole time and now that Ross has signed they will have to turn their attention elsewhere.
  21. Surprising to hear that about Burdi. As others have said, all indications from the Sox are that Burdi will stay a reliever. I would like to see the Sox give Burdi a chance at stretching out to be a starter since there's plenty of time during this rebuild.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) Some.folks just like to hate on everything Chisox Do you post about anything other than complaining about how Sox fans " hate " on Sox players. The last handful of posts I've seen from you is whining about all the "hate" and yet nobody but you has used the word "hate". This may come as a surprise but criticizing or acknowledging a players warts is not hating.
  23. 57m57 minutes ago Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan Sources: Tyson Ross' one-year deal with the Texas Rangers is for $6 million guaranteed. Can earn more with bonuses. Going to be interesting to see how Ross performs in the AL and in that Texas heat when the ball jumps off of bats. I think he should have stayed in the NL in hopes of putting up solid numbers to get a multi-year contract next winter. Ross' numbers have been shielded by pitching in the NL and the most pitcher friendly park in baseball but pitching in Texas with his High BB rate could be a disaster.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 05:49 PM) I love you so much. I really do. You're one of my favorite people here hands down. You gotta stop with all the love Mike. People will begin to suspect a bromance brewing. Seriously though. Right back at ya big guy. I enjoy reading your posts and your enthusiasm for all things White Sox is awesome. Just don't become too cynical of the Sox like the rest of us sad old f***s.
  25. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 05:00 PM) When the trade happens we'll say a collective "Now what?" For 5 seconds. Then we'll critique the trade. I was thinking it would go something like this. 1) Q is finally traded 2) Sox fans yell hip hip hooray 3) critique of the trade begins. 4) half of Sox Nation loves the trade and the other half b****es about it well into ST. 5) then the questions of, Who the hell are the Sox trading next and what's taking so long? QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) I might as well shove my balls in a blender if he isn't traded by SoxFest. Don't forget to add the ice, lime and tequila. An alternative to blending ones balls could be to cut them off, pickle them for the 2017 year and then feed those picked nads to the most deserving and undesirable relative you have next Christmas. Another idea would be Chef's favorite, chocolatey salty balls. Simpley wash, shave, chop, baste in chocolate and bake at tree-fiddy for 20 min. Let cool for 10 minutes and serve with secret sauce. For added flavor and texture you can skip washing said balls for that all natural fromunda cheese taste. Good grief, I really need to get a life. Too much time on my hands and am incredibly bored watching the wife play her video game. Maybe I should grab a beer or something and turn on some tunes. I have lots of new music I need to catch up on anyway. OK, back to Quintana, or whatever the f*** this thread is about.
