  1. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:57 PM) The team that DFA'd him is looking to win the World Series. We are in a place where we should take on a reclamation projects (I honestly think he's one of the best reclamation projects left in the market), playing guys like Sanchez or Leury who has not projections left is not going to help this franchise. If Micah flopped, then more L for us. If he turns it around offensively or defensively, we could get something out of him down the road. Micah is absolute garbage, period. His horrible 2B defense leaves him without a position and his bat doesn't hit well enough for DH. Sanchez plays plus defense and is a switch hitter, Leaury is a decent defender with plus speed. Micah brings nothing to the table.
  2. Watch Seattle jump into the Q sweepstakes with an offer of Smith/Vogelbach/O'Neill/Lewis. Would be nice if Houston had a division rival involved in the negotiations.
  3. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) Rum Bunter ‏@rumbunter 17m17 minutes ago Rum Bunter Retweeted USABEvents White sox fans this guy is going no where This was in response to Austin Meadows being on the cover of Baseball America. Let em keep talking, they don't have Q yet. Sad they aren't smart enough to realise that by keeping their precious Bell and Meadows off the table, they are making it easier for Houston and Atlanta to make offers that can beat Pitt's offer. Was hoping for a trade with Houston anyway and this just makes me desire that even more.
  4. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:02 PM) The Sox do not have a definitively better option than Micah Johnson at 2b or CF until July when Moncada is called up. That said I just dont think its worth the effort to bring him back into the fold, leave the past in the past. Saladino, Lawrie and Sanchez are all better options than Micah.Do you remember how much of a butcher Micah was at second? Beyond horrible, the stuff nightmares are made of. We're talking some seriously f***ing bad joojoo on Micah's glove and defensive footwork. The team that just DFA'd Micah is looking for a 2B. What does that tell ya?
  5. Just say no to Micah Johnson. Athletic like a Greek god but has the baseball IQ of a pop tart and a horrible defender. The Sox already have better options.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) I am actually surprised Sox don't take a salary dump for drob. Yeah, I think holding onto Robertson is more of a risk than Q. I would talk to the Nats since they had interest in him before. Maybe work something out for Severino + and if necessary offer a few bucks. This would make Jones the front runner to be Closer and with a little success he could net a really nice haul in July or even next winter.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 07:17 PM) I'm just saying. Eating bad contracts for more prospects/draft picks is a crafty move a rebuilding team like the Sox should try to do once in awhile. I know that's not how they usually operate financially but Atlanta has employed a similar strategy and it benefited them. I like the idea myself and was all for it until the Pirates remained connected to Q long after their reported need to trade Cutch first to open payroll space for Q. Heck, they are rumored to have made a three player offer for Q and all is quiet on the Cutch trade front. This tells me it's not about money, that was a ploy directed at the Yanks to get them to bite on Cutch in hopes of landing Rutherford as part of the return and then flip Rutherford as part of the trade for Q. This would have satisfied the Sox desire for Meadows whom would have taken over CF for Cutch. And then Yankees pissed all over that parade. Anyone see speculation on what Atlanta offered?
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) Newman can stay at SS and will hit with a high .OBP. That's your prerogative though. The problem i see with Newman is he hits balls on the ground + does not have elite speed to compensate for it. Look at how frustrating it's been watching Avi beat baseballs into the ground. Another problem with Newman is let's say he can hit, I don't think he will hit or field well enough to move Anderson from SS which leaves 2B for Newman but the Sox already have Moncada there. Newman is fine if he's the second best hitter coming over in a trade but if he's the first I would rather keep Q or consider one of the offers from the Braves and Astros.
  9. Funny how we point to Q's durability as part of his trade value but when it comes to the idea of keeping Q the question of " what if he gets injured" comes up. If one really believes Q is durable, and I do, then why worry about the Sox holding onto Q until they get the right offer?
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:41 PM) Newman has basically no power. So is he likely to be a ground ball machine then? I really don't like the idea of Newman being the best bat coming back to the Sox. For me it has to be Meadows or Bell or hello Astros.
  11. This is becoming very interesting. Luhnow has shown to be aggressive and being willing to make big trades and sign free agents to contend in '17, and then there's Huntington who literally has no history of making a big trade like this and his additions this year were Nova and Hudson. Yet Huntington is going to pull Meadows and Bell off the table and expect Luhnow not to trump the offer? Meadows and Bell being off the table plays into Luhnow's hands. Huntington is going to f*** this up which is what some Pirate fans have been fearing. Question about Newman. The kid has mad contact skills but with skills like that I would have expected a higher BA than .288 at AA and more extra base hits too. Is Newman making alot of ground ball outs? I'm going to google it but the thought just popped up so I thought I would throw it out there while I was typing this post.
  12. We shouldn't be talking about trading Melky, we should be talking about EXTENDING Melky! A Melky extension would make certain that Melky wears a Sox cap the day he's inducted into the HOF. Melky Cabrera = Legend.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Yes, I acknowledged this, and it does explain why the Yankees specially wouldn't be willing to trade those guys. But the market value remains. There's no way Miller and Chapman are worth those (types of) prospects and Quintana somehow isn't. Oh I agree that Q is worth those types of prospects, it's just that the Yanks are in a position to sit on their's due to their rebuild but the Pirates and Astros don't have that luxury with them trying to contend this year. This is what frustrates me about the speculation of Meadows and Bell being off the table. IMHO, Q is worth one of Meadows or Bell being apart of the return. However, I do prefer a trade with Houston over Pitt so from my POV Huntington is actually helping to facilitate a trade between the Sox and Astros.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) Can we stop for a second to acknowledge this: The Yankees acquired Frazier for 2.5 years of a relief pitcher, and Torres for half a season of a relief pitcher. First of all, what an extraordinary strike of good fortune. Second, how strange that, a few months later, both seem off the table for four years of a starting pitcher!! Yes, the Indians/Cubs and Yankees were in different situations, but still. Should be able to give some better perspective on Quintana's trade value and market. A few things. 1) both trades were made at the deadline when buyers are more desperate. The supply and demand is different now than it was at the deadline last year. 2) the Yankees are rebuilding so for them it makes sense to hold onto those players. The Pirates and Astros on the other hand need to accept that they need to give to get. At least the Astros look willing to part with their top hitting prospects which is more than I can say for Pitt at this point. In the the end I think Luhnow will make the best offer. The Gomez and Giles trades show that Luhnow is willing to part with quality prospects to get what he wants, what has Huntington done? IMHO, no Bell or Meadows means no Q for Pitt.
  15. Wow, I'm utterly beside myself right now.
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 06:28 AM) Where did he come from? Yankees? Blue Jays, if I remember correctly.
  17. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 11:57 PM) Peter Gammons: https://www.google.com/amp/www.draysbay.com...-houston-astros Thanks hi8is, i knew i had read something somewhere. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 12:22 AM) Take your pick: Glasnow, Keller, Newman, Hayes, and Diaz Or Tucker, Martes, Paulino, Davis, and Stubbs I'd take the Astros package, though I'd prefer Whitley over Paulino.
  18. QUOTE (Username @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 11:00 PM) Interesting, where's the Astros rumor coming from? I saw that sportsmockery thing but I don't trust that guy haha. I know they're back heavily involved, just haven't seen sources on the package. I forget where I read it to be honest but it wasn't sports mockery. One rumor was Houston offered Martes, Tucker, Paulino and another said they offered the Astros top three prospects ++. Just rumors but somewhere in there is a little truth. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 11:00 PM) Perhaps I see the pirates holding meadows and bell off the table, and being willing to include one of Glasnow or Keller, but not both. Everyone else in their farm is fair game. Houston reportedly offered martens, tucker and Paulino for archer and were turned down. Yankees are likely checking in to gauge the price, but won't move top tier guys. Sox need at least three top tier and one or two more decent prospects to get a deal done If the Pirates are keeping Meadows and Bell along with one of Glasnow/Keller off the table then I hope the Sox tell them to find pitching elsewhere. The Astros can easily offer better hitters than Newman, Hayes, Sanchez and they have more pitching talent to offer than Pitt too.
  19. QUOTE (Username @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 10:38 PM) Looks like this rumbunter account has "broken" some minor stuff before, so could be legit. One of the follow up tweets indicatws Hahn contacted Huntington with offers from other teams, to see if they'll counter: https://twitter.com/rumbunter/status/818247503300665345 Would seem to indicate things are heating up. Also have to think dialogue on a weekend means something could happen soon. If the recent Astros rumors are true that they offered the Sox the Archer package for Q then what Rumbunter says makes sense. The Astros may have raised the stakes with their recent offer.
  20. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 08:54 PM) Somebody on twitter @rumbunter, who professes to be the best Pirate blogger, said he just got an email confirming the Sox and Pirates discussed the offer for Q this morning. Whatever, I know. I have honestly enjoyed thee reads on Rumbunter but I did laugh when they tweeted Meadows and Bell aren't going anywhere and yet still have better hitters to offer than Houston. Going with that tweet and taking Meadows and Bell off the table that leaves Newman and Hayes as their next best bats to offer which could easily be trumped by the Astros, Yanks or Cubs. I'm hoping the Sox can work something out with Houston. One arm I'd like to snag from Houston is Whitley. Man there is alot of potential in that kids arm.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Pirates fans do. Yes they do and over the last few days I've seen more comments from Astros fans basically saying to trade whomever it takes that isn't on the 25 man roster. More and more Astros fans are open to trading their prospects for Q.
  22. Because in the end, KW always gets his guy.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) The Cubs could have a deal done today without dealing a single major leaguer. A deal of something like Jimenez, Happ, Candelario, and Eddy Martinez? That is pretty much as good as any other team could offer, and it would explode our system with legitimate superstar position prospects. Agreed. I would happily take 2 top 50's and a top 100 + flier for Q. Happ and Candelario are blocked at the ML level and Jimenez is a few years away so none of those three fit into the cubs immediate future plans. Heck, with Schwarber in LF and Zobrist at 2B they will have a tough time finding atbats for Baez unless they try Baez in CF. The Sox and cubs match up for a trade really well, on paper that is. With Lackey a FA after '17 and Arietta looking like he will test the FA market himself after the '17 season, kicking the tires on a cheap front line starter such as Q would be a smart move.
  24. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 06:45 PM) I think the Astros are pushing things one year ahead of time. They really should have used the '17 season as a development year to see how young pitchers like McCullers, Musgrove, Paulino, Martes and hitters Bregman, Gurriel, Reed, Fisher, Hernandez progress. Then they would know what they had going into next winter when there will be plenty of FA pitching and hitting available and could dangle P.Tucker and Springer to get them some pitching. With what they have on their 40 man roster now along with what they have on the farm that could come up this season, they could have a wicked young core of hitters and pitchers for many years to come. Signing Reddick and Beltran took ab's away from hitters they are reluctant to trade. But hey, cheers to the Astros going for it because I think they know they need stability in their rotation so in the end they really have to part with a few pieces they may not want to part with to get Q. Now that I think about it, all that s*** can be said about the Pirates and their young talent so cheers to them for being in need of pitching too. Now, would one of those teams drop their knickers already and give it up. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 02:25 AM) Why is it a year early? The general consensus is that they are the favorites to win the West. And I can't say I disagree, they have flaws but their division rivals have more. My post above explains where im coming from.
  25. Wasn't aware the Sox were short on MI depth.
