Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
BlackSox13 replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) There's a weird piling on of judge right now. I don't necessarily want him in a Q deal, but sometimes players do need time to develop. He dramatically improved between years 1 and 2 in AAA as you'd like to see. He strikes out, but he was still k'ing at under 30% in AAA and walking at a nice 12% clip. In his abysmal, small sample size, he still walked 10% of the time. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) 25 is relatively old for a prospect. As a third piece to a Quintana deal he is worth a gamble, but not as the first or second piece I agree but my post was in response to the quoted post above highlighted in bold. I don't recall anyone saying they wanted Judge as a first or second piece, but I could be wrong. -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 04:09 PM) The answer was right in front of (technically above) you(r post). And every team in the league would love to fill their rosters with those types of players but the problem is there aren't enough high OBP power hitters that don't strike out alot to go round. Next best option is the Todd Frazier types where strike outs come with their power potential. As bad as the Sox offense was last year imagine how much worse they would have been without Frazier's 40 hr and 98 RBI. I don't deny past failures in the development of power hitters but I would rather see the Sox keep trying than give up. -

One thing I find funny is how Judge is viewed somewhat as being old (25 in April) by some folks. Lol, I hardly consider that to be old and like you said, some players take time to develop. As I said before, the Yanks have prospects I would rather have over Judge but if a deal was made and Judge was apart of the return, I would be giddy at his power potential at the Cell. ( Sorry but I refuse to acknowledge the new name, it's still too soon. ) -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) How many of these guys have to bust before Sox fans will learn that that type of player just does not develop in the White Sox farm system? So the Sox should give up on power hitters then? What's the alternative? -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) Why does anyone want Judge? Put him in the Sox development system, and he's a guaranteed bust. His K rate is WAY too high, and the Sox don't know how to fix that. Give me Andujar over Judge every time. Judge has huge power potential and that's pretty tantalizing to fans of a team that plays in a small park and yet does not hit enough home runs. I completely understand why Sox fans would want Judge, despite the fact I'd prefer other Yankee prospects over Judge. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) Yankees blogs seem to pretty rational in regards to Q. Agreed. I admit that I did not expect Yankee fans to be this reasonable. It shows they have a pretty good perspective on their teams' needs and the market. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) That is a solid read. From a personal standpoint, I keep hearing about the Yankees farm system. To me, it seems like the least likely scenario possible that the Yankees patiently wait for their farm system to start paying dividends. To me, the reason the Yankees have a farm system is so that they can use them to get the players they want from other teams. I have thought that was the Yankees plan as soon as they started trading just their middle relievers. I could be wrong, but this is what I think, and if you view this through that lens, the Yankees being interested in Q makes a hell of a lot of sense. Bingo, couldn't agree more. I'd like to add that I just cannot see the Yanks sitting in neutral while the Red Sox pull away. Boston and the Yanks have always tried to counter one another's moves and I see no reason why this would be any different. No chance the Yanks watch Boston acquire Sale without doing something to improve their rotation to show their fans they want to compete not just with Boston but the rest of the division as well. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) The Red Sox aren't trading for another starter so it's really all moot. As mentioned already, it's for discussion purposes only. Nobody thinks Boston will actually trade for Q. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) That is an awful trade for the Sox. Why do people think Travis is good? I think with Travis, it's more about his youth, potential and he can play some 1B. Travis certainly isn't anyone's first choice in a trade but I wouldn't complain if he was acquired. Would a better proposal be Devers with the other three I listed? -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) It is haha. Just as a fun thought, what do you believe it would take? Devers, Travis, Groome plus one more piece? Disclaimer: before people decide to pounce and say it isn't going to happen; I know that. You don't have to tell me. I was just throwing it out there because it's a boring Tuesday at work. I think in order for a trade to happen, Boston would have to be willing to part with Devers which probably won't happen, unfortunately. I could see a package of Travis/Groome/Ockime/Dalbec being reasonable. -

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) I don't see it. Sale/Price/Porcello/Pomeranz is a pretty good top 4, and arguably in the playoffs that's all you really need starter's wise. He's not going to pillage his farm system even more for the rotation IMO. The front three of Boston's rotation is solid but after that, the fourth and fifth spots are very shaky. Pomeranz and Rodriguez were not very good last year and both put up Danks type numbers. As for Dombrowski not pillaging the farm even more, I refer you to the Detroit Tigers. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) Same thing crossed my mind the other day actually. I think they are done looking for starters but I could see them having enough to get Q still if they wanted to gut the rest of their farm. Maybe in July if Sale/Porcello/Price misses a significant amount of time. I think it's possible Boston could have interest though I am not counting on it. It would be a slick move by Dombrowski to make his team even better while cock-blocking the Yanks from improving their rotation. Win win for Boston. Oh well, it was just a thought.

OK Dombrowski, time to help the White Sox out by throwing a rumored interest in Q out there to drive the price up on the Yanks and Astros. I do wonder if Boston would seriously consider a trade for Q. They are set up to win now, stocked farm and Dombrowski is not afraid to deal prospects.

Ryan Howard (no news weekend, so why not?)

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) I am going to go out on a limb and say that not a single player that has been talked about as an OF starting next season will be on the White Sox next playoff roster. Tilson? Coats? May? Engel? No. There is a better chance of getting a reclamation that actually works out for us, and we trade him for a player that can be a contributor, than there is of those guys being good. Get a clue dude. Engel is Soxtalk's second coming of Trayce Thompson! Just wait, you'll see and then you will become a believer. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:59 AM) Frazier is build like a brick s***house. Legs like tree trucks and arms all jacked up. s*** man, I could swear Frazier works out with Carrot Top. Since the Yanks have kicked the tires on Q, I'll go ahead and indulge. I think I'd be pretty happy with a package of Frazier, Mateo, Fowler and Montgomery. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:01 AM) It's true that, of all the gaping holes to fill with a potential trade-chip veteran during a rebuild, a DH is the one that makes the least sense. Especially while Avi is still wearing a Sox uni. Avi's best position is DH and we wouldn't want to take that from him. -
What's the Funniest/Worst Christmas Gift you've received?
BlackSox13 replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
Forgot about another one that's pretty funny. When I was 17 my other aunt pulls me aside from everyone to give me my Christmas gift which turned out to be a wood bowl she picked up from a head shop near her apartment. Then tells me that later on her, her sister ( miss Stryper) and I would duck out and go back to her apartment to break in the new piece. Lol, everyone knew we were f***ed up when we got back to my grandmother's house. Good times! -

I love my aunt but when I was about 14 or 15 she bought me a Stryper album for Christmas. Not cool for a teen that was listening to DIO, Slayer, Venom, Megadeth and so on. The day after Christmas I was at the record store trading it for a Celtic Frost album. -

Would love to get Andujar, Rutherford and Torres from the Yanks. I think with the Yanks deep farm Hahn might change his stance on dealing Robertson separately. Q + Robertson for a package starting with Andujar, Rutherford and Torres ++ would have me quite giddy. It's about time a Yanks rumor emerged. There's no way they hand the division over to Boston without a fight. The Yanks have to do something to try and counter the Boston acquisition of Sale. -
What if the Sox go 20-10 in April and amaze us?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 12:29 AM) I'm just saying as of right now you could make a case the team wants to contend next season. We have Holland and the two new pitchers who are MLB ready plus the new second baseman who is considered a potential star. Now until we trade the guys I mentioned we're a normal team, not a rebuilding team. I mean we still have a ton of veterans on the team. Now if we dump those guys I mentioned, fine, it's a 50-win season and total rebuild. I have no idea who we'll trade those guys to. I would think Frazier would be wanted by many NL teams. Hard to dump Melky. Abreu should bring a lot. Nate won't bring anything. Q will bring a good haul. Robertson should bring 3 decent prospects. It's obvious you have not followed the Sox off season, know anything about the players the Sox have acquired or paid attention to any of Hahn's comments so far. You have alot of catching up to do Greg. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) A lot of people will have interest. ... In poop!
-
Anyone have a quantum physics calculator handy? Something tells me the numbers will be beyond simple mathematics.
-
Add the Mets to the list of potential suiters. Not saying the Mets have interest but they are looking for help. Maybe the Sox can throw a few bucks in to sweeten the return? Given the Mets financials, they would probably have more interest in Jones but then again, Jones would cost more prospects. Anyone think the Mets could have interest in Robertson or Jones?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) Until the Sox get rid of Frazier, Lawrie, Melky, Robertson, Nate, Abreu and also trade Q, there's no evidence of a complete rebuild. Why would you have any of those guys here if you are in a true rebuild? Let's see what the Sox get for those guys. As of right now, this is just a bad team, not a rebuilding team. Good grief Greg. Your posts keep getting worse and worse. Read some of the discussions and the news in the baseball world and maybe you would understand. Rebuilds take time and so does trading veteran players. So Greg, in your intimate baseball wisdom, tell us at this point in time what teams would be interested in the players you've listed and what the return would be.
