  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) Rangers system at such an odd point in development. The team that I still go back on is the Braves. Not from a "will they" standpoint as I think their Sale interest was a starry eyed new stadium acquisition ploy, but trying to figure out much value I would put to incredibly high up side incredibly risky players like Meitan or Vlad Guerrero Jr from Blue Jays. But Albies/Meitan, does that get you in door with other teams? I just threw the Rangers out there as an ironic twist to the Astros stance on Q. Definitely not counting on the Rangers jumping in though that could change in July if Q is still in Chicago. Never bought into the rumors concerning the Braves. They have spent the last few years collecting MiLB talent for their rebuild and then factor in the one year wonders they acquired via trade and FA. No team goes out and trades for one year of Jaime Garcia as well as sign the likes of Colon/Danks/Dickey if they are contenders. Those four pitchers were brought in to buy some more time for their young pitching to further develop. I think a case can be made that they might have temporarily tossed their hat into the mix in an effort to drive the price up on their division rival Nat's.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) This poster from crawfishboxes answered a lot of my questions on why this analysis feels at odds with the market and does not address the questions well: KUDOS to him (poster Lipper34): http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2016/12/16/13...r-jose-quintana Thanks for posting that. Lipper34 does a good job of looking at the proposed trade from both sides. The writer of the article however, is disillusioned if he thinks Luhnow should wait out Hahn's asking price. The reality of the situation is that the Sox are rebuilding, have a very valuable asset in Q and do not need to trade him. The writer comes off as though the Sox NEED to trade Q and will at some point drop the price which is clearly not the case. The Astros need Q more than the Sox do so if Luhnow doesn't want to pay thats fine with me because somebody will. Go ahead Houston, wait it out because rebuilds take time and the Sox have plenty of it. Would be hilarious if the Sox ended up getting their haul for Q in July, from the Rangers.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 07:23 AM) 2015 ERAs with Sox Jeff Samardzija: 4.96 John Danks: 4.71 I award one point to greg Yes, because the 2015 Samardzija had everything to do with the 2016 John Danks s***ting the bed from the start of the season and therefore leading to his release? Bottom line is that overall, Danks was bad for the entirety of his contract extension. I do believe the injury had everything to do with it and it really is unfortunate because I have no doubt that if not for the injury he would have pitched much better and the conversation would be much different today. I think the Sox were more than patient enough with Danks but in the end he just wasn't able to get back to where he was pre-injury. I hope he takes advantage of the opportunity the Braves are giving him and is able to pitch well. He's still young enough to possibly serve as quality 5th starter in the NL.
  4. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) ??? Were we watching the same player? Danks has been BAD for 6 straight years dude. As mentioned, ever since the injury he's been atrocious. Don't get me wrong, I hated the Shields trade and he is clearly on the downside of his career - but come on, you'd rather have Danks if money isn't a factor? Sure, Shields has been terrible the past 2 years, but he was an elite inning-eater SP previous to that for the majority of his career. Danks had one great year + 2 solid years in his career before gettting hurt. He tried to become a "crafty lefty" and f***ing couldn't to save his life. If he wasn't signed long term with JR being cheap he would have been DFAd in 2014. I loved John Danks the human just as you clearly did/do, but get your head out of your ass. He was consistently the worst pitcher I've seen in a White Sox uniform since 2011, maybe ever. Danks 2011-2016: 756 IP/ 4.79 ERA / 4.60 FIP / 85 ERA+ (15% below league average pitcher) / 818 H / 1.4 WHIP Seriously man. Makes no sense. Saying the Sox needed a pitcher and his 7.25 ERA is just Ludacris. The Sox 23-10 record was a mirage that most knew was not sustainable based on the fact they were winning due to some incredible starts from their pitchers not named John Danks. Easy for a team to win despite only scoring 2 or 3 runs per game when the pitching staff was lights out at the time, well everyone BUT Danks. I wish Danks well but it was time for the Sox to move on.
  5. Player development throughout the organization is more important than wins and losses, at least while they are rebuilding. Losses are going to happen so i really don't need to cheer for them.
  6. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) Dodgers are in the penalty, they can only offer $300k. If he comes out in 2017-18 they wont be able to sign him. Must have missed that, thanks for pointing it out.
  7. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) That would disgust me. The Dodgers are the new Evil Empire, IMO, and I'd be very upset if they snagged a talent like this to pile onto their already massive talent pool. I hear ya and I wouldn't like it either but they have the money, the ties to Japan and are in a good location. I'd rather see him go to SF but I'd bet the Dodgers find a way to make it happen.
  8. This guy would be such a good fit for the Giants or Dodgers. Two west coast teams that keep him closest to Japan and play in a league where he can pitch and swing the stick. Early guess is he goes to the Dodgers.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) Jesus. The definition of "Moon Shot " has officially been redefined.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) This post is beautiful and one that should be pinned to the top. Absolutely! Well done and thank you, lasttriptotulsa!
  11. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) The #WhiteSox still want to trade Jose Quintana, and figured #Astros were perfect match, but won't move him until someone meets their price. https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/809094035944144896 Ya, thanks Bob. Anything NEW to report that we don't already know? That's some Bruce Levine reporting right there.
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) Ideally let Robertson close for 2 months, hope he's lights out and trade him in early June. Jones the closes for 2 months and trade him in late July. Maximize value for both. And to turbo maximize, let each pitch 2 innings a few times....that seems to be an appealing feature these days. I just don't see Robertson bringing back more than a couple of modest prospects right now. I'd roll the dice with him into 2017 as there is room for improvement. Another approach would be to reverse their roles. There's no question that Jones is effective but can he close? Let him show them. No question Robertson can close, but did he lose his effectiveness? That can be tested in the 7th and 8th just as well as the 9th. Jones' overall game and peripherals might have beeen maxed last year- a few more saves would help though. But no necessity to move either now. Problem with that is, as DA pointed out yesterday, that there won't be many save opportunities in '17. I'd like to add that Robertson has struggled in non-save situations so running him out there to get his innings may not necessarily work. Not sure I want to rely on Robertson staying motivated long enough to trade him. He signed with the Sox to win, now they are selling and that has to be disheartening. I say take the best reasonable offer and move on.
  13. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2681497...ffseason-market I think this does a pretty good job describing the Q trade market. No surprise that Q is being undervalued, as usual. I do believe a team will cave in and pull the trigger but if they don't, I have no problem keeping Q to be the ace of the staff in '17. Teams can either pay up or piss off because the Sox aren't giving Q away and don't need to.
  14. Starting to wonder if the Nat's get desperate and offer up Ross/Robles/Severino for Q. Trading Ross doesn't seem to make sense until factoring in Q will likely pitch over 200 innings and put up better numbers than Ross which is why I think a contender like the Nat's might consider pulling the trigger. It's probably a reach but the best reach I can come up with so early on a cold morning.
  15. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 11:28 PM) What happens wednesday?? It's a reference to last winter when some Sox trades fell on Wednesday's.
  16. Funny how we couldn't wait to get rid of Danks because he was so bad, only to turn around and trade for James Shields'. Oh the irony.
  17. "The Braves have agreed to a minor-league deal with left John Danks, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (via Twitter). Danks, 31, was said to be seeking a comeback opportunity." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/brav...p;post-id=80434 Colon, Dickey, the trade for Garcia and now the Danks signing. I think this shows Atlanta was never going to cough up the prospects for Sale or Q.
  18. Yeah, Reed/Tucker/Fisher/Whitely for Q alone is alot to ask. I think offering Jennings or Putnam balances that out a bit.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) I doubt the Singleton deal is that big of a deal. We are only talking about a couple of million a year. I'm sure Houston would rather not be paying a 25 year old minor leaguer 2M but I get what you're saying. The 2M is likely not a big deal since Houston should be way under the cap but i figured I'd throw it out there anyway, just to get a little creative.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) I just want Tucker a lot more than Martes for no other reason than Tucker is an outfielder and we have none. You are not wrong. Can switch it to where the Sox get Reed/Tucker/Fisher/Whitley/Singleton for Q + one of Jennings/Putnam. With the Astros heavy on hitters, outfielders especially, a trade like that might work for both sides.
  21. I'll throw this out there for entertainment purposes only. Offer Q + Reliever ( Jennings or Putnam) for Reed, Fisher, Martes and Whitely. If that's close but Houston isn't quite satisfied then offer to take Singletons contract off their hands as part of the trade. Houston gets Q + one of Jennings/Putnam for Reed/Fisher/Martes/Whitley/Singleton. Is that close? Kinda feels like it still favors the Sox to a point Houston says no. Thoughts?
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) In terms of what is cheap right now, I'd like to see the team target power bats, in anticipation of that market starting to swing the other way again. Now that the Sox have infused more quality pitching into the farm, I'd like to see some power bats as well. Houston has the bats and the Sox have the pitcher, someone is going to blink.
  23. Since the Astros wouldn't settle for Martes/Tucker/Musgrove, id meet them half way and go Martes/Tucker/Whitley. I know the Sox need hitters but Martes and Whitley are just too good to pass up if they can both be had. Martes/Whitley/Reed/Fisher would be fine with me too.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 07:10 PM) Calling PTAC....3, 2, 1 ptatc. Uh oh, pulling out the big gun eh? Edit: NASCAR BABY! Yeeehaaaa!
