  1. Only thing i can say definitely is that I gave up emotional attachments to players many years ago so if Sale is indeed traded it won't be a big deal for me. One thing that could twist my knickers is if I personally feel the return was lite. For me, the return package is more important than the fact Sale is traded. Time will tell.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) More of a "Quintana is very good" article which is nice to see. But while Quintana may get you a good pitcher for longer, we all know the market for these guys is thinking about their 1-2-3 rotation in the playoffs, and hard to say no to Sale for that. Surprisingly, I agree with the writer. Sale has shown signs of fading down the stretch in September whereas Q is a more stable pitcher down the stretch. Imho, if I'm a GM with the teams 1-2-3 rotation for October in mind, I'd look to trade for Q first and foremost. Q is the most consistent starter the Sox have had since Buehrle. As a Sox fan, if the Sox do trade one of Sale or Q I hope it's Sale. I have nothing against Sale, just prefer to keep Q.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) This is a petty solid perspective on what Jose Abreu is worth in terms of annual salary. It really is. Aside from the 3.5 year age difference, they're numbers are pretty darn close. Due to Abreu's younger age I feel he's worth more than 11M but not much more. If Abreu gets back to his '14 numbers, that's a different story.
  4. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 08:44 AM) Sale is the linchpin that opens the floodgates. I don't think the rebuild starts unless they're pleased with the offer they get for Sale. That's what I'm thinking as well. If the Sox don't get the offers they seek for Sale then we probably suffer through another season of "going for it".
  5. Would love to see a full rebuild but I have a difficult time believing that JR will agree to rebuild at the tender age of 80. What scares me is the rumors that JR wants to win which means no rebuild. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if JR finally (after all these years) got his good friend (Alex Rodriguez) to DH for the Sox in '17. This would be a typical JR move. Anyway. I really hope Merkin is right about the Sox looking like they will rebuild. Its been long overdue.
  6. Just bought tickets to see Dune Rats and DZ Deathrays at the Empty Bottle in November so the wife and I are excited.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 07:57 PM) I really don't agree with you at all. Perception of a corporate sponsor isn't going to keep people away, a losing team is. Not many people are going to sit there like you and say "OMG IT MIGHT BE COUNTRYWIDE BANK THEY MIGHT BE CROOKED" or talk about how the owner has a III behind his name. Fans of the sox will go to the park if the team wins. Wait. Are you implying that fans go to a ball game to see their team play and not for the name of the stadium? No way man, I don't buy it.
  8. I take Ventura's willingness to come back as a threat.
  9. Hansen looking great so far tonight. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20160810
  10. I see no problem with this promotion. If the Sox are going to entertain the possibility of trading Robertson this winter then there's nothing wrong with getting a sneak peek at Burdi in September. Who knows, the Sox might need Burdi to setup Jones next year.
  11. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) How many times did Jose Abreu see his son during the 2015 season? How many times did Jose Abreu see his son during the 2014 season? Was his performance affected by not seeing his son during the 2014 or 2015 season? It's possible that Abreu's slow and steady decline over the last few seasons has something to do with being apart from his family. I would imagine that as time goes on it becomes tougher for Jose to be without his family.
  12. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 04:32 PM) Word is that the Pirates may look at moving McCutcheon in a salary dump over the winter. The Sox don't have a lot in the tank as far as prospects go, but could move Burdi and Fulmer for him. Sign Castro and trade for Norris to catch. RF Eaton CF McCutcheon 1B Abreu 3B Frazier DH Cabrera LF Tilson 2B Lawrie C Castro/Norris SS Anderson Can't say I agree with giving up Burdi/Fulmer for a player coming off a down year and only under control through 2017. Would rather keep Burdi/Fulmer and roll the dice with Tilson in CF for 2017.
  13. I don't see the problem. One of the reasons the Sox wanted Shields was to help ease the stress on the pen. Thanks to Shields the pen was saved exactly 1.1 innings on Sunday. Some lucky reliever got the day off thanks to Shields. Some fans are just impossible to please.
  14. Kind of looks to me like the only way Ranaudo gets a shot is if Shields is claimed off waivers. Shame though. Would like to see him get some starts in September, if not sooner. Agree with those that say the Adams promotion was too aggressive.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 08:05 AM) Yeah all these are good reasons to tune in. I just don't really make time to watch them. If I have nothing to do and I'm home and don't feel like watching a TV show or movie or playing a videogame on a weeknight, I watch. Not how it is when a fresh season starts and you get to watch the sport you've been missing the past few months. I don't blame ya one bit. The Sox brand of baseball is definitely not a good one so its easy to see why some folks have to put it down and walk away for a while. Kind of like those nights when Rodon is walking everyone or Shields getting lit so bad that the bat boy wanted a piece of Shields that night. Sometimes ya just got to walk away from it.
  16. Why? 1) baseball is the only sport I follow these days and the SOX have been my favorite since I was a kid so I just don't know any other way. 2) it's f***ing baseball, man! 3) still looking forward to seeing if Frazier can eclipse 40HR. 3) the development of youngsters like Anderson, Tilsen and Saladino. 4) hoping to see Abreu rebound enough to replenish some value and traded this winter. 5) hoping to see more of Frazier at 1B. 6) having fun watching Eaton have such a good year. 7) watching Q and Sale pitch. 8) Gonzalez has been a pleasant surprise and nice story to follow. 9) hoping to see Rodon rebound some the rest of the season. 10) curious to see what happens with Fulmer the rest of the season. It's been a rough year no doubt but I'm just doing my best to enjoy what little I can because I'll be missing baseball when the season is over.
  17. If Sale is traded, I wonder who from the FO will be sent to deliver the news.
  18. For the trade deadline I'm hoping the Sox move Robertson, Melky, Shields and Abreu. Unless a contender steps up right now and is willing to pay dearly for Sale or Q, I think the best time to trade one of them would be the winter. Would also be open to the idea of trading Fulmer for a position prospect.
  19. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 06:16 PM) Dodgers should be in it. They lost norris today to back tighness. Honestly you think boston would be more aggressive. They are currently fighting for a wild card spot and haven't played well lately. The Dodgers have been very reluctant to give up top prospects which is why I don't see them in the mix very much. As for Boston. I think their hands are tied. Sale and Q require a large haul and I'm guessing Boston is wondering if one pitcher is going to help that pitching staff enough to justify giving up so many top prospects in one trade. If I were them, I would add someone like Gonzalez or Shields to help them now and over the winter use their prospects to get two above average pitchers for their rotation. Two above average pitchers would help their rotation more than one elite pitcher. One saving grace for the White Sox is that the Yanks are looking for pitching and have prospects to deal so that could help keep Boston somewhat in the mix. I think there's potential for Hahn to play those Texas teams against each other because both are fighting in the same division and are not afraid to give up prospects in trades.
  20. Right now it seems that the focus is on the Yanks, Boston and Texas for acquiring Sale or Q. I think Houston joins the mix soon based on their need for pitching, contenders for the ALW and WC, plus they have the farm and players to get a deal done for Sale or Q. The next 20+ hours could be quite interesting.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) IT'S HAPPENING. What is IT?
  22. *hug watch* for Frazier's tummy. Shot of Pepto is on the way.
  23. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 06:44 PM) Nah, but I think I would be happy with that return. #2, #25, #83 prospects in baseball. It's a nice return but I would have to push for Benintendi over Devers. Nothing against Devers of course.
  24. For me, if the Rangers really want Sale, negotiations begin with Mazara and Gallo or the Rangers can continue their search and Sale continues to pitch on the south side. If the Sox really want to try and clean out the Rangers farm they could offer Abreu as part of the package since they need a 1B/DH anyway. Maybe offering Abreu makes it easier for the Rangers to part with more prospects.
  25. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 06:40 PM) I replied to his tweet with an offer of Moncada, Devers, and Kopech for Q. Did he reply?
