  1. The cost of relief pitching is rising so if Jones stays healthy, this contract is peanuts. Considering the Sox gave Duke 15M for three years, I see no problem giving Jones 8M for three years. One thing to consider is if the Sox at some point over the next few years decide to trade Robertson, Jones is likely the guy to replace him. If the numbers below are true, Jones would be an extremely cheap closer if Robertson were traded. "The team has announced the deal and its precise terms. Jones does indeed get $8MM over three years, with salaries of $900K, $1.9MM, and $3.95MM. Then, there are two club options ($4.65MM & $5.15MM) with a $1.25MM buyout that applies to either, followed by a mutual option at $6MM." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/whit...nate-jones.html One thing I do question is that 900k+1.9M+3.95 does not add up to 8M.
  2. Iwakuma back in Seattle on a one year deal with two years of vesting options. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/mari...hi-iwakuma.html Lmao, the Dodgers are not having a good off season as far as pitching is concerned.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) He played that one game at short in 2014, not 2015. He had terrific range so I get it's his arm. Even Gordon Beckham and Leury Garcia registered multiple games at SS last year but not Sanchez. That's pretty telling to me of what the White Sox think of him on the left side, especially since most of the games were meaningless so it sure as s*** wouldn't have hurt to try him there. They couldn't even do that. Don't get me wrong, I'm for him being a SS in some manner. I was screaming for the Sox to play him there last year. I just dont expect the Sox to do it. Ok, I follow ya. Hahn did say today that Saladino is the SS going forward with Sanchez competing with him so it sounds as though the Sox have some degree of confidence in Sanchez at SS. To me it sounds like as of now, SS is Saladino's position to lose.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) Sox refuse to play Sanchez on the left side of the infield so it's going to be hard for him to be a UIF. With the hole left by Micah at second, Alexei entrenchment at SS and the numerous players the Sox tried at third its really no wonder. However, the Sox did in fact play Sanchez at SS for one game last year, he started 43 games at SS in 2014 and 51 games in '13 for Charlotte so he is familiar with the position. Sanchez has plenty of range for SS, its his arm strength that is concerning but as a utility he should be fine.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) I'd rather keep Saladino and use the money that would've been spent on Alexei on an outfielder. I feel the same way. Imo, were talking about players heading two directions. Alexei will continue to regress while Saladino should, to some extent, get better. Nothing against Alexei, its just time to move on.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) Nothing of significance. It would be idiotic to authorize the Frazier trade and then force Hahn to make any remaining moves from the trade market unless they're at the very least willing to take on a not insignificant amount of salary for CarGo, Ethier, Crawford, Hanley Ramirez, etc. Once the big three outfielders have signed, the contracts of CarGo and Ethier will be at or even below market value and net their teams a nice return in a trade. I agree about Crawford and Ramirez though. I hope the Sox don't trade any of their top talent for the likes of CarGo/Ethier. If that's the case then go for broke and see what Atlanta would expect in a return for Inciarte who they are listening to offers on. Otherwise, I think Parra is the logical choice at this point. Not my first choice by any means.
  7. Sounds like I missed nothing. I just cannot stand the score at all. Outside of Sox games I have not listened in years.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) Or we test the NL to AL theory for another veteran player again. Parra and Avi just isn't good enough to move the needle. Three years ago, there was a much better case to be made for him. CarGo's more likely the fallback...or Ethier/Crawford because KW loves his brand name veterans. As I said, if the payroll limit stays at 120M then the money isn't there unless the Sox move salary which is one of the reasons why I'm speculating on Parra. Last I read, the Rockies are aiming rather high in a return for their outfielders so I'm not really counting on that either. How much do the Sox have left to trade without dipping into the likes of Anderson, Fulmer and Adams?
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) That is the more likely scenario. Signing Upton or Cespedes is pretty farfetched in reality. Agreed. If the Sox stick to the 120M payroll then the money isn't there for Cespedes, Upton or Gordon which makes Parra and his left handed bat a much more plausible idea. Sox signing Parra wouldn't surprise me in the least bit.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) A 35 year old Ben Zobrist just got a 4 year deal. Gordon will definitely get a 5-6 year deal. I have faith in the Sox FO not being dumb enough to follow suit.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) Five obviously, but most teams prefer 4...and 3 would be ideal. Realistically, four's the shortest....unless they just have insane frontloading or a favorable opt-out after just two seasons. 3 I could see but I wouldnt do more than that for an outielder that turns 32 next year.
  12. I'm really starting to think the Sox end up signing Parra. Plays RF, a bit of speed, no comp pick and will not cost as much as the big three FA outfielders. He profiles along the lines of what the Sox are suspect to be looking for. Well, minus the power.
  13. Ha ha, watch the Sox surprise everyone and sign Parra.
  14. More Levine regurgitation of other's ideas and writings. He even tried to justify sending LaRoche to Pitt, an idea that was already turned down by Pitt. How does Levine have a job? Anyone have an idea of what Gordon is looking for as far as contract length?
  15. An added benefit of Frazier is that he can play first base. If the Sox like what Frazier does over the next two years and Frazier likes the South Side, the Sox could look into an extension and move him to first base if Michalczewski pushes his way onto the team in the next year or two.
  16. The only real downside I see to this trade is the Sox just took one of the better NLC power hitters out of the division. You're welcome Pirates, Cards and cubs. I wonder if Cinci will be able to win 50 games in '16.
  17. Tough position for the Angels. They are projected to a have a 166M payroll in '16 that doesn't include Nava's salary so round up to 168M. That leaves them with 21M to work with. I wonder if they would be interested in Melky.
  18. While I don't like losing Montas and Thompson, I'm at peace with it and am happy with the moves made so far. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the Sox come up with for an outfielder. Cespedes? Upton? A Gordon surprise? Trade? Stay tuned...
  19. The only worthwhile FA OF bats that come with no comp pick are Cespedes and Parra. Could be the Sox pumping PR nonsense but they have come across as being reluctant to give a comp pick so I think Hayes just might be right. Would love to know who the Sox are seriously looking into on the trade front. I'm sure they have their eyes on more than just the Rockies outfielders.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) I would not be happy if that deal happened. Yeah, Inciarte is good, but why give up your best prospect in Anderson for him when you can sign Cespedes/Upton/Gordon? All those guys are more "elite" in my mind than Inciarte anyway. I like your proposals 99.9% of the time, but I would be very disappointed if that trade went through. Atlanta wants to move Markakis and his contract and is willing to listen on Inciarte. So the spit-balling is offer to take on Markakis' contract to alleviate the prospect cost on Inciarte. Markakis is an overall upgrade in RF and at the plate over Avi. Inciarte comes with five years of team control, brings elite defense to CF and great speed to the lineup. Eaton goes to LF and Melky to DH. Now the outfield defense is much better overall. Inciarte bats lead off with Eaton second. I'm one of Anderson's biggest fans and prefer to keep him but I would be willing to trade him in a deal for Inciarte. I know Anderson alone doesn't get the Sox Inciarte which is why I would be willing to take the contract of Markakis back if the rest of the Anderson package wasn't too costly. I know Atlanta already has two very highly rated SS prospects but I still don't see why they wouldn't have interest in Anderson. Not like any of those prospects cannot be moved to another position. Again, just spit-balling so to speak. This is by no means something I am counting on. Just some random day dreaming on a winter night.
  21. Just my opinion but pitching, speed and defense go together like P,B and J.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 08:36 PM) It's going to hurt to get Inciarte. He's a very good young player. But he's going to be very expensive. No doubt about that. Atlanta is looking to move Markakis so I wonder if the Sox and Braves work something along the lines of Inciarte/Markakis for Anderson/Avi ++. I'm just doing some thinking out loud and major spit-balling. Im not getting hopes up that's for sure. I am curious about the price of Blackmon.
  23. From what I've read recently it sounds like the Rockies outfielders have a pretty good price tag attached to them. If that's the case and the Sox are willing to deal more prospects then see what Atlanta would want for Inciarte. Otherwise sign one of Cespedes or Upton.
  24. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) I'm pretty sure kim is playing outfield. Orioles are still sorta waiting on davis If they were waiting on Davis they wouldn't have publically pulled their 150M offer. Could be PR stuff but with Boras for an agent I'd guess the O's aren't happy and are looking elsewhere.
  25. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) Well they also have Trumbo. This is true and as of right now, Trumbo has to be the 1B which puts Kim in LF with Jones in CF and a hole in RF. I don't think the O's are going to count on their other outfielders too much and they still have the money they pulled from the table on Davis.
