No chance on Reyes, he's a hot potato right now with the domestic violence allegations he's facing. -

QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) What about Adrian Beltre? Only one year left on his contract, and the Rangers have Joey Gallo ready to take over for him. I was thinking the same thing until I read this a few days back. "Contract extension for Adrian Beltre is 'important' to Texas Rangers" http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/texas-rang...t-texas-rangers http://www.mlbtraderumors.com Would love have to him if the Rangers decided to go with Gallo at third but it doesn't sound like that's what they'll do at this point. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 01:07 PM) I'm thinking the Freese scenario is most likely. Sign Freese and Cespedes, keep draft picks and prospects. Agreed. IMHO, this scenario makes the most sense. The Sox upgrade both offensively and defensively while keeping picks and prospects.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Inciarte? I'd love to get him. Im all aboard that train! Wonder what the cost would be?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 11:45 PM) Can you make this argument without using straight OBP? OBP was brought up because I mentioned Kim's OBP in the KBO. It was not me that brought Upton's name into a thread about Kim so how about the Upton discussions stay in the Upton thread and Kim's discussion stays here. For anyone interested in what I'm talking about I'll post the link again that shows his KBO stats. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=kim---004hye Imo, he's worth making an offer to considering the money.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Justin Upton's career OBP is .352 And Upton's OBP has been on a slow but steady decline since its peak in 2011 and has been below .350 the last two seasons. If fans want Upton that's fine, I get it but I'm not interested in a long term big money deal with him. I just don't think his performance will live up to the contract he signs which is why I'm open to other options.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:35 PM) We've got some good prospects. This is one trade where we might have to part with a good one. I don't really want to give up Rodon, but our organization finally has a handful of stud prospects. We might have to give up two good ones. If the Sox are waiting for all the prospects to become major-league ready, fine. But we've been led to believe this is not a rebuilding thing, but trying to win it. To win it ... I think my suggestion should actually make us a contender. Infield: Frazier, Lexi, Lawrie, Abreu. Outfield: Melky (ugh), Trayce, Eaton (Avi as fourth outfielder unless we can dump him) Hopefully sign a name outfielder. Catcher: The two stiffs. Don't like that position. DH: LaLob. Don't like him, but maybe Robin can at least reduce his at bats and have him be buzzkill only four days a week for the 12 mill? Pitcher: Ding. Ding. We have a winner! Great staff. You can't deny my 3 simple moves (Frazier in trade; resign Lexi; sign new outfielder) make the team contenders. The way the team is now?? Last place. I can and do deny. Remove Rodon and who takes his place? After Sale and Q, the rotation is very unstable with Danks as #3 and EJ #4 and ? #5. You've taken a potential strength and made it a weakness. You really would give up 6 more years of a 22 year old future stud in Rodon for 2 years of a 3B whom is almost 30 that s*** the bed in the second half of '15? Come on! If you are relying on a regressing Alexei at SS to make the team a winner then why did the Sox let him go? I'm sure they could have re-signed him by now if they wanted him around so why is it they don't want him any more? Because Alexei is regressing and will continue to do so because it comes with age. Removing Rodon, adding Frazier and keeping Alexei around is not the path to contention. Mediocrity is more like it.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) So sign the guy with an over .350 career obp? The Sox had 1 every day position player to have an OBP above .350, Eaton and he's it. I'll take help from wherever and whomever. Kim hit for AVE, drew walks with a low K-rate. Surely his stats won't fully translate in the MLB but for the money, the risk is rather minimal.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:00 PM) Give me Upton who is way more proven, just more money You can have Upton, I'm not interested in him. I'm looking at OBP type players to help the Sox pathetic offense score some runs. Keep the line moving so to speak.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:13 PM) It isn't money to spend, Greg. They have to trade for him, and if what they are offering is not sufficient for the Reds, then the trade does not happen Plus the Sox aren't the only team that's interested which helps to drive the cost in prospects up. Obviously someone didn't see that the Reds asked for Rodon.

"In an attempt to fill at least one of their outfield holes, the Orioles are negotiating with, and have made an offer to, 27-year-old Korean Hyun-Soo Kim, according to industry sources. The offer is believed to be two years in length and roughly in the $3 to $4 million range per season, one source said." http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...1214-story.html For that kind of money I would love to see the Sox make a serious offer. Could be a bust but could be a steal.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) Have the White Sox been linked to Gordon? How about Cespedes? I don't recall hearing any actual rumors, more speculation. Obviously, there have been some rumors earlier this month about Upton. Which of these require a draft pick to sign? Baltimore is the one team I'm not sure what they are doing, if they are truly out on Chris Davis also. Angels seem to be in the hunt and Cardinals claim they are not. Very interesting. Have to assume this will sort itself out quickly, as in this week for at least one of these guys. Cespedes is the only one that will not cost a pick. Upton, Gordon and Davis will cost a pick to sign. Haven't read anything linking the Sox to anyone but Upton.

KC is rumored to be after Gallardo. Can they afford to sign a FA pitcher and hitter?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) The Braves want to dump Markakis and might send prospects along with to sweeten the pot or subsidize the remaining $31.5 million due over three years... Markakis contract isn't bad at all and he can still hit, draw walks to go with a low K rate. I don't want him but if the Braves really sweeten the deal with a quality prospect or two I'd be willing to listen. Swanson would work for me.

Is Dick Williams drink? Come on, Rodon for Frazier? Lololololololololololollol!!!!!!!

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 04:17 PM) They may have offered the money but it got pulled off the table for some reason. But they have the money and are willing to spend it. I wouldn't count the O's out on any of the FA outfielders.
-
QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) The Cards did win 100 games, though they had really remarkable luck. They're still a match for the Cubs and probably better than the Pirates with what they have. The O's won't pony up for Upton, Angelos makes JR look like a spendthrift. I think its basically Angels, White Sox, Tigers, maybe Rangers, Nationals and maybe the Royals (if they get real crazy) as the OF market competition. Not sure that's entirely true. The O's offered 7/150M to Davis so they have the money and an opening in the outfield to go with the opening at first base left by Davis. I think the O's are very much in on one of the FA outfielders.

No expectations from this signing. Sanchez serves a quality backup with MLB experience should something happen to Avila or Navarro. I like it.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) but if they don't trade some of these excellent prospects, then they may not make the playoff. With the moves AZ and SF have made, the Dodgers may not make the playoffs anyway. The Dodgers didn't develop/trade for their youth only to turn around and trade them. The philosophy in their FO has changed and they are infusing more youth into the entire organization. The Dodgers have been looking to trim payroll for a few years now and what they have been doing the last few years is spending huge in the international and domestic markets to build their farm and develop players that can replace the high cost veterans they have now when those veterans contracts are up. The Dodgers are going to look alot different in 1-3 years with alot more youth that can be locked up long term so they don't have to rely so heavily on free agency. I don't like the Dodgers but I have a tremendous amount of respect for their approach/philosophy. Anyhoot. Cueto signed for 6/130M and an opt-out after 2 years huh. Giants better be praying that arm holds up long enough for Cueto to opt-out or say hello to their new Zito.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) If you can't add, as much as it pains me, then you must take advantage of said prices and subtract. They had a plan which supposedly included Samardzija. What were they going to pay him with if they have no money? It isn't like they are $20 million short of their projected revenues. If they are, they are crazy. They have never operated that way. Their projections have always been beyond conservative leaving them profits on a yearly basis except one, but Forbes said the $3 million loss they took in 2013 included the $10 million bonus that was paid to Abreu after that season ended. I think a big part of the FO confusion on what to do is they didn't foresee FA/Trade costs skyrocketing like this. I'm sure the Sox had plans to add a FA bat but when the costs jumped, they fudged their Huggies and are unsure of what to do now. KW and Hahn are in a tough spot because they likely know that trading some of their limited talent for more cost controlled youth would be the smarter move but they work for an owner that will be 80 in February and wants another winner. I wouldn't want KW's or Hahn's job right now. Tough spot the Sox are in and imo, it comes back to their spending last off season was a year too soon but that's all in hindsight now.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) He's in the running for the most claimed player ever. Andy "the door knob" Wilkins!

QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) You all know how much I want a bonafide run producer at DH, to replace La Roche. However, if Abreu gets injured, who would play first base? LaRoche!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) Quiet you. Sorry. Sigh, I'll go get my dunce cap...

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Dan Hayes seems to think the White Sox won't be signing a big bat free agent, and most likely won't be trading for Frazier. Of course they could be playing with him. We have seen so far this off season that the costs of both FA players and prospects in trades have escalated quite a bit. I think Hayes might be right on this.
