QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) Hey! An argument that's centered around what Montas can do for the White Sox! I like it. That makes sense, that may be a plan that has Montas winning games for the White Sox. Not a plan for him to get traded or live up to a completely unrealistic player comparison. Right on. I admit I have entertained the idea of trading Montas for position player help but I do prefer to keep him and see how he develops. Especially after seeing the ludicrous money thrown at pitchers this year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) The rumors we've heard also make it sound like they don't have a lot of confidence in EJ either. Good point Balta. Arent the Sox rumored to be looking for a RHP?

QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) No loss of draft pick with Cespedes. I would love to sign him and give him an opt out after 1-2 years, then get a draft pick if he leaves. Who knows, he might love it in Chicago. I like this idea and I've been somewhat against paying big money to this year's free agents but seeing the cost of prospects in trades, Cespedes makes a ton of sense. Initially I was very much against the idea of signing Cespedes but I'm pretty much all for it now.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) I just get tired of the VALUE VALUE VALUE mentality and how the Sox should be more concerned about nurturing trade value than winning some freaking baseball games for the first time since 2012. If Frank Montas the bullpen pitcher can help this team win a very winnable AL Central then he should be up here in that capacity. Lol, the aren't even hurting for bullpen help and really don't need Montas in the pen. They need position players more than anything. Danks contract is off the books after '16. It would be nice to have two options in Fulmer/Montas to fall back on to cover the open starting spot, instead of just one option in Fulmer.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) Who cares what they think? You cheer for your team and don't worry about the rest This X infinity. Let cubs fans talk, they're going to talk regardless and in the end what matters most is what the Sox do and how they play. Some fans need to develop a thicker skin and let s*** roll off of them.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) I'm patient enough. But he has 45 command and no 3rd pitch. So at 22 years old you're writing off his command and under-developed changup?
-
Imo, Montas is just 22 and should have a chance to fail as a starter before moving to the pen. To date, Montas has not failed as a starter and should be in Charlotte's rotation in '16. Again, he's just 22! Have a little patience Sox fans.

Lmfao! No chance the Sox do that deal. Glad I don't listen to sports talk radio any more.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) Id rather use soxtalk Same here. This is the only place I talk Sox Baseball and am quite happy with it. Besides, I don't see a point in having the same discussions on multiple sites. -
If the Rockies want Q they will have to add something to the deal. Q for CarGo is not a 1-1 trade.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 05:43 PM) Samardzija, Soto, Sanchez, Gillaspie, Noesi, Duke, Boni, Shuck and Guerra. 6/9 so far. I thought Sanchez would be back in Charlotte and I'm happy to say it appears I was wrong and hope he's the starting 2B. Duke I thought would be traded. Shuck- I don't remember why I put him on the list to be honest but I'm glad to have him on the bench and hope we keep him.

QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 09:30 PM) I follow along on this site fairly religiously. Seldom do I feel the need to post something, unless I'm drunk or some dumb s***. but I feel the need to add this to the discussion. I live in Toronto. I worked as a bartender during Lawrie's rookie year. He was a hero. No other way to put it. He was the franchise saviour for the Blue Jays. He was the Canadian cover athlete for our version of MLB THE SHOW, for example. He was still a kid. Maybe 22? I met him a couple times while working. He always seemed quiet and polite, though somewhat intense. Never rude. Then he was traded for Josh Donaldson. He was expected to replace an MVP type player. Again, perhaps impossible expectations What I'm getting at is....maybe he can benefit from not being expected to be "the answer" and just be the player he is. I think that can be a good player. If you excuse intensity for being a "douche" that's is a mistake. And those who like to make personal assumptions about people they don't know? Chill, head. Thank you for taking the time to post this. Everything I have read about Lawrie says he's a genuinely good person and goes with everything you said about him. I looked around at his twitter and Instagram and the fans just love him. Another member here posted a video of him giving a surprise visit to a six year old little girl on her birthday and he was nice as could be and asked her for a hug. The Sox need more intensity and Lawrie will surely help with that.

Frazier is a fan favorite with two years of control left and a cheap salary. The Reds will be sellers at the trade deadline in '16 so they can always maximize Frazier's value at that time. It's a risk if Frazier tanks or gets injured but by no means are the Reds desperate to trade him. The Reds are in the driver's seat in a trade for Frazier.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 08:24 PM) Don't we already have a thread about this? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=97639 I forgot all about that thread once it got buried, my bad.

I would love to get McMahon but not at the expense of Fulmer. McMahon may be blocked by Arenado at 3B but Colorado can always turn him into a 1B to get his bat in the lineup when he's ready. Another thing is that McMahon will be starting the season at AA so its likely he won't be ready until '17 at the earliest. I think Montas for McMahon is a more balanced trade proposal for both teams. Just my opinion.

Good idea NorthSideSox72 and I'd say you've got everyone in the right spot except I'm not sure about Trey starting at Birmingham. 10 things I'm really looking forward to next season. 1- When will Montas get his next callup and in what capacity. If all goes well with the Sox I'm hoping Montas can spend the season at Charlotte as a starter and be a September callup again. Charlotte should be an interesting challenge for him. 2- Fulmer's development as a starting pitcher. I have to keep reminding myself that he only has one full season as a starter under his belt so I'm trying not to expect too much while he progresses through the minors. 3- Spencer Adams. Strike thrower, good stuff, great composure on the mound and he's a Georgia boy. I'm biased due to my wife being from Georgia, what can I say. 4- Jordan Guerrero. I loves me some south paws. Have only seen a few short clips but after struggling in a few outings after his initial call up he seemed to find his rhythm and pitched pretty well at Winston-Salem. 5- the killer ZZ's in Zangari and Zavala. I'm just going to sit back and follow with no expectations. 6- Tim Anderson. I expect AAA to be a bit of a challenge at first but I think he will gradually adjust to the pitching and faster pace of the game. I think the key word for Sox fans is patience. Don't panic if the kid struggles, he's still quite young and hasn't been playing baseball very long. 7- Jacob May. Imo, Juan Pierre 2.0 and that ain't bad. Like Anderson, it will be interesting to see how he responds to better pitching at AAA. The little guy can fly and should be fun following him for another season. 8- Adam Engel- we know the tools exist so its just a question of has he turned the corner with his AFL performance? I'll take the patient wait and see approach. 9- Trey Michalczewski- He's the one guy on the list I'm not so sure starts at AA. His BA left something to be desired at Winston-Salem but if the Sox feel he's ready for Birmingham then so be it. I won't complain. 10- Eddy Alvarez- a great guy and a fun player to follow. What's not to like?

Ya, its a bit early in the off season to say the outfield is set. That's just a bit pre-mature by ESPN.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/roya...s-gonzalez.html Rockies are listening to offers on CarGo, Dickerson and Blackmon. Dickerson's youth, years of control (4) and left handed power potential would be a great fit for the Sox. Problem is that Dickerson had plantar fasciitis last season which I believe is what Gillaspie was dealing with and doesn't go away very easily. I don't know much about the problem but it could make Dickerson a potential buy low candidate due to the risk. But is the risk worth it? Blackmon is older (29) but brings speed and three years of control and a little pop. CarGo is expected by the Rockies to bring a nice haul and I kinda doubt the Sox would want to pay the price. Anyone have thoughts/insights on these three left handed hitting outfielders?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) I am tired of the gloom and doom posts. The Cubs sign Heyward for a massively overpayment and all we hear is the Sox are going into the toilet and will be moving to another city. Ridiculous. I am glad we aren't pending the kind of money the Cubs are, or some other teams for that matter. We can do better in filling our needs then give all our money to one player. We did make some good moves for 2015 and I am certain we will make some good moves for 2016. The players slumped and can come back from that. Think negatively and it's always going to be bad. Let's be realistic here and act positively about the Sox and the team ownership. I'm really like this post and agree 1000%. The Heyward sweepstakes were fun to follow and discuss but in the end, what matters to me is what the Sox do to improve the team and I could give a toss what the cubs do. The off season is not over by any means. Great post 'elrockinMT!

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) Adam "Spanky" Eaton vs Jason "J Hey" Heyward in a Chicago Street Fight match? Sure, i'll pay to see that f***ing hell, that sounds like Rey Mysterio vs Big Show! Let's make it a TLC match to give Spanky a chance.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) Am I the only White Sox fan that is glad the White Sox didn't give the type of money and contract length the Cubs did to Heyward, Zobrist and Lackey? Nope, I too am glad.
-
Looking at both players overall performances and their contracts, I take Eaton in a landslide. Eaton's cheap contract allows the Sox money to spend elsewhere.

Thank you for giving us Sox fans a place to talk Sox Baseball. Best place for all Sox related discussions.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) This is actually good for the White Sox. Jerry and his investors are running a business and the Cubs have totally passed the White Sox (I realize the Cubs have always had more fans/media, etc., but the Sox have been the better franchise for quite some time now until last year and the foreseeable future). Acquiring Lawrie and a pair of journeymen catchers doesn't cut it in the interest department. Sox are going to have to spend some mega bucks and get some players people care about besides Abreu and Sale. Sox are gonna have to start competing for the division title again because Cub mania is here and you better believe the Sox beancounters have noticed. Crowds of 12,000 to 20,000 all year won't be attracting any advertising dollars/media contracts, whatever. Anybody with a buck that's not located on the far South Side will be gripped in Cub mania for years to come. It's counter time, White Sox. Spending exorbitant amounts of money does not guarantee a winning team. There have been numerous examples of this in the past and recent history. Look at the money the Sox dropped last season and still couldn't play .500 ball. Acquiring/developing the right players is the key. I give the cubs credit for going for it but by no means does their spending guarantee anything except a high payroll. On paper they appear to be a better team than they were and we'll see if that translates into wins next season.
