  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) Not sure what ewokpelts was referring to but thanks for posting this BlackSox. This quotes are at the least inconsistent with the claims. Sure thing raBBit and thank you for all your writings and Baseball updates.
  2. To clarify... “What I’m very careful to do is not do it in a judgmental way, ever,” LaRoche said. “Because I’ve had guys in the past who have come up and tried to beat the Bible over my head and tell me what I shouldn’t be doing: ‘You keep doing this, you’re going to hell.’ And that is absolutely not the way to preach. Period.” http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/s...-on-a/?page=all I see nothing wrong with anything LaRoche said. Anyway, due to his '15 performance I expect him to be back next season and when he steps into the batters box I will hope he helps the offense somehow.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:27 AM) And being off the turf should help him (it did last year). Very good point.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) Looking at his 14 numbers, he had 12 homers in 70 games. If he had stayed healthy, who knows how many he could have hit. Imo, there's no denying that there's plenty of upside left in Lawrie. I'd like to see what he can do in a full season hitting at the Cell.
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:11 AM) How many were hit in Oakland? I'm on my way to work so I can't look it up. I will look it up later because I'm curious.I think he can hit 20 with us realistically. In '15 Lawrie had 6HR at home and 10HR on the road. I watched some highlights of him earlier and he can hit some absolute bombs.
  6. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) There's always Montas....I know we shouldn't be looking to trade a power arm like his, but if he isn't going to have a rotation spot this year and we aren't going to commit to him in the bullpen then I think we should seriously consider moving him now while he has a good amount of value. Never know what could happen if we let him sit in the minors for 1 more year, plus we still have Adams and Fullmer behind him. But you're absolutely right. Getting a guy like Reddick would be a much better idea than spending 100M+ and losing a draft pick on Upton. Does Montas, Avi, May, and Guerrero get us Reddick and Lawrie? May/Guerrero could be changed to their liking, but no one inside our top 8 prospects. Montas to the A's? Maybe the next Frank De Los Santos? I really have no idea how to speculate on the package for both Lawrie and Reddick but I don't think your idea is far off and sounds pretty close to me. A defensive OF of Eaton LF, Thompson CF and Reddick RF sounds really good to me. Huge upgrade over last season.
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 07:52 AM) i hope you are right. Me too, although I'm leery of what it would cost the Sox in terms of prospects. Beane trading a player (Reddick) going into their last season before FA would be a very Beane-like thing to do.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 07:27 AM) I think they want at least one player who could be ready in 2016, and neither of those will be, most likely. Also with Danish, since he had his first rough year in 2015, the Sox would be selling low. But either one could go certainly. For position players, I see Avi/Thompson, but also May, Engel, Coats, E Alvarez, Michalczewski, Peter and maybe Narvaez as potential fits. For arms, although the system is dense in good arms, most aren't close to ready. So that's a tough call, could be any of a doze or more if they are willing to go less-developed. Good call, if OAK asked for more in prospects, Sox may be looking to offset. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) If the Sox are trying to get more back than just Lawrie, I see them aiming for Reddick as well. Just a guess but I think the Sox are looking to include Reddick. That's alot of outfielders Oakland is looking at and the Sox have a need for a real RF with defense. Reddick is left handed with pop and could hit behind Abreu. The Sox could fill two noles in one trade. Reddick would keep the Sox from spending big on a FA OF bat thus saving a '16 draft pick and could look at extending both Lawrie and especially Reddick since he's a FA after '16. I'm just speculating but the trade history between these two teams justifies the speculation.
  9. I wonder if the Sox are trying to get more than Lawrie from Oakland.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) ido too. i am getting withdraws .... i started to think of looking up some sCrubs fan site to get more updates..... then i woke up... what a freaking nightmare that was. Here's something for you to nibble on. Take it with a grain of salt since the projected Sox pick is based on need and not BPA. I found it amusing. http://www.draftutopia.com/2016mlbmockdraft.html
  11. The Mariners are “close” to acquiring Lind, Rosenthal tweets. Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel, meanwhile, writes that there’s speculation that 3B/1B D.J. Peterson could be part of the Brewers’ return. Peterson, the 12th overall pick in the 2013 draft, hit well in the low minors but struggled last season at Double-A Jackson, batting .223/.290/.346 in 393 plate appearances there. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/mari...nd-brewers.html
  12. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:09 AM) What's his contract status? From what I read he's eligible to be a free agent in 2018, but I didn't see what he was owed for the next two years. I like the idea, provided the price isn't too high. He's young, has some fire, and his numbers aren't bad. I think we'd all love to see Frazier, but I think we know what kind of package the Reds would demand. Hopefully this the first of several moves. '16 and '17 are arbitration years so his salary will be based on performance.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:04 AM) Is this official yet? Nope, not yet. I'm guessing they are waiting til after players medicals have been reviewed by each team?
  14. A haul like what Atlanta got makes me wonder if the Sox FO would reconsider who is " un-tradable ". I looked around a Diamondbacks forum and for the most part fans were not happy with what the Diamondbacks gave up.
  15. I like this move. Harris is the kind of person that should work well with young players.
  16. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:15 AM) It's not just you... I was thinking the same thing. He seems like a mediocre loudmouth. He's a .263/.316/.736 hitter. Intensity? Shut up and play better. I'd rather give up nothing for the Japanese 3B. Shame the Sox didn't get that kind of production from 3B last year,or the year before. Another thing is we don't know what the Sox gave up so it might be players that factor into the future anyway. Plus, Lawrie's salary is cheaper than what Matsuda will cost and that allows money to be spent elsewhere to help fill another hole.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:07 AM) or they could be brothers in arms. this is worth looking at when spring training comes. I like that, brothers in arms. I used to follow the game threads pretty regularly and too many times people were complaining about how the team looked lifeless and I agree with that. Hopefully a guy like Lawrie can help breath some life into the team and help keep things loose.
  18. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:02 AM) i just read it, the word intense is sooo funny. i like him as a player. i wonder if he is the kind of player that will lead by example or verbally infuse his personality on players.... meaning take them into account for not running or hustling. but the price??? Like I said earlier, his teammates in Oakland sure seemed to like him so I wouldn't read too much into the personality aspect of him. As for the price. We should find out soon enough if/when the deal is announced.
  19. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:00 AM) Is it just me or does Lawrie scream mediocre 3B? I don't know about giving up anything significant for him. We can go sign an Asian 3B. Keep the prospects. Assuming by " Asian " you mean Matsuda. How much can really be expected from a 32 year old player that has never played in the majors? Lawrie on the other hand is only 25 with four years of MLB experience.
  20. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:45 AM) Some of you may find this article interesting: http://www.athleticsnation.com/2014/11/30/...scouting-report Thank you for the link Lillian. That is an interesting read. Lawrie comes with some pros and cons but I think his energy and intensity is exactly what this lethargic team needs. I remember too many games where the Sox looked like lifeless dead. Eaton and Lawrie together could really provide a nice boost in the dugout.
  21. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:29 AM) Oh I was thinking Quentin. Not to hang that mantle on him or anything. Eaton is intense but a goofball. Oh OK, I forgot all about Quentin. I'd put Lawrie somewhere in between the two. Was just watching videos of Lawrie on the MLB site and his teammates in Oakland sure seemed to like alot so he should fit in with the Sox. Hopefully Herm will be able to help Lawrie stay healthy and on the field.
  22. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:16 AM) In interviews he seems intense and cerebral, which reminds me of another west-division player the Sox bought low on. Thinking the exact same thing. The Sox could use a bit more intensity, Eaton cannot do it all on his own. I think the best is yet to come from Lawrie, he is only 25 after all.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 12:38 AM) I also highly doubt this will be it (well including adding another infielder possibly). I doubt they make one or two little moves like this without making one big one too. Hopefully it's the first domino.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 12:37 AM) I have Samardzija's jersey To be fair, he is a family friend. Nothing wrong with that. Freedom of choice!
