QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) They're song lyrics. Ha ha, good call Jose.

Atta boy Buehrle-Wood! Nice thread.
-
And here I thought this was a winter meeting predictions thread for the Sox...

I wonder how badly Loria was laughed at. "Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports tweets that the Marlins asked the Dodgers for both Julio Urias and Corey Seager in exchange for Fernandez, illustrating the fact that the Marlins aren’t shopping him but only looking to move him if they can receive an overwhelming return. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports asked one rival exec what he thought the Dodgers would need to part with in order to acquire Fernandez, and the exec said Urias, Seager and Scott Van Slyke — an even more sizable haul."

Supposedly the Sox are interested in Desmond but for some reason I doubt it. Wouldn't surprise me if Saladino is the plan, for now. Right now it seems the Sox are more focused on upgrading 3B and RF.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) 2 prospects for a rent. Friedman has gone from Tampa to the hero worship cult in LA. Depends on the prospects and if the Dodgers are able to extend Chapman which I'm sure they will try and do. Edit to your edit: ya, that set up/closer duo is going to be something in the 8th and 9th innings.
-
Rosenthal:BREAKING: #Dodgers agree to acquire Chapman from #Reds for two prospects. Deal is pending review of medical records, sources say.

I'm going to guess the Sox change direction from Lawrie and trade for Martin Prado who shouldn't be too costly in a trade.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) WHY ARE WE STILL PROPOSING CUBS AND WHITE SOX TRADES???????? It's not happening. This has to stop. Because this is 'Merica where we are free to express our opinions on topics in which two Baseball teams that have needs actually match up on paper. Also because we're bored and need something to talk about.
-
Not surprised if Robertson is on the block. It's been speculated for a little while now. Would make sense to free up some money if the Sox plan to make a splash for a higher cost position player through trade or FA.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 07:19 AM) I sometimes wonder if BlackSox13 and I are the same person because we agree on virtually everything concerning the Sox. Ha ha, great minds think alike!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 07:13 AM) The A's played one playoff game and Samardzija didn't pitch. There is no way the White Sox package of players could be traded for Addison Russell. Beane gambled big time and lost. He cut his losses a bit on that trade, but still lost by a lot. If Rick Hahn made that move and it turned out exactly like it did, KW would be getting blasted for it forever. But Samardzija helped get the A's to that one game playoff which was why Oakland made the trade in the first place. They needed pitching for the playoff run and got it. Anyway, back to Lawrie. Given the shortage of third baseman and the amount of teams looking for third baseman I think it's very possible the cost for Lawrie will go up and especially if it's three division rivals bidding.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 07:01 AM) Some players are fine in their mid to late 30s. He out up a 2 WAR as a 34 year old and that was with a significant injury. 4 years is probably too long, but you have to pay for an extra year usually on the free agent market. With pitchers, you pay for an extra 2 or 3 or more all the time. Jim Thome came to the White Sox as a 35 year old and hit 228 homers from that point on. I think the team that signs him will be glad they did for a couple of years at the very least. The Sox are not contenders with all the holes they have so spending money from limited funds to sign a player that turns 35 in May is just plain dumb. If the Sox were one or two players short of being contenders then I can see taking the chance but they aren't. I much prefer to give Sanchez another year at 2B and see if his bat comes around.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:55 AM) Reddick only has one year of control I believe and Beanies pretty random. Though I'd think they'd probably get a better deal from another team than from us. One year of control left is a good reason not to trade for Reddick. I'm just not a fan of one year rentals. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:57 AM) You are ignoring the moves where he did not. All I am saying is being afraid to trade with Beane because you think he knows better would have cost teams a couple of studs in recent times. Lawrie's price won't be high, certainly not as high as the price Beane paid to get him. Lawrie's price might not be high initially but if other teams come in to play and especially division rivals, the price will go up. Beane is not stupid by any means. Oh, and trading Russell helped get the A's into the playoffs and later gave the A's 3 useful MLB players while they rebuild and a young minor leaguers with high OBP potential. Jury is still out on that move. As for Donaldson, I'd say the A's lost that trade but Oakland did need the starting pitching so it makes some sense although I think they surely could have done better.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:37 AM) Super utility guy has been under a 5.0 WAR only twice since 2008. He, at least saber metrically, has been one of the better players in baseball for many years. That's all fine and dandy but how well is he going to play for the duration of the four year contract? Zobrist turns 35 in May.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:42 AM) Addison Russell and Josh Donaldson. Beane turned that into Marcus Semien and Danny Valencia. Are you really going to ignore the moves where Billy got surplus value? Come on. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:42 AM) Aim for Reddick as well and sweeten the deal. Adding Reddick will cost the Sox alot more. I'd love to have Reddick but over the summer supposedly Billy told Reddick he wasn't going anywhere so now where looking at over paying for Reddick to pry him away from Oakland.
-
Indians and Tigers are rumored to have interest in Lawrie as well. Trading Lawrie is looking more like a classic Billy move where the A's get more than expected. I'm starting to wonder about this...
-
Good, I'm glad a team is willing to give Zobrist a four year deal because I sure as hell would not commit four years to a 34 year old "super utility" player. Considering the state of the Sox, that money could be much better spent elsewhere.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) I think losing Melky hurts this team more then trading LaRoche and eating half or more of his salary. In reality Thompson will probably be the 4th OF I agree about Melky but the problems with LaRoche are; would the Sox eat half his salary and what teams would be interested? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the idea of trading LaRoche, its just easier said than done. After what we seen in Avi last year, I'm willing to give Thompson a shot at playing every day to see what he can do and continue with Shuck as the 4th outfielder.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:24 PM) I'm not sure why people are so down on Melky. I think he is a piece that we should keep. His offense is better then what Thompson or LaRoche will offer I'm really not down on him and much prefer to keep Melky's bat and DH him. Thompson brings much better defensive onto the field, speed and potentially more power than Melky too. The problem is LaRoche isn't going anywhere since its not likely any team is crazy enough to take on his 13M salary so the SOX would have to use him as a bench bat, which doesn't seem likely given his salary. That's why I said trade Melky/Avi.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:14 PM) If it is the one we gained from Jeff's signing, technically we don't lose or gain anything which IMO makes it worth it. But to me you HAVE to get rid of LaRoche or Avi if we sign an OF whichever one you don't trade is probably the DH or Melky I doubt there's any takers on LaRoche, its likely he's the DH/1B with Abreu next season. If possible, trade Avi and Melky both ( easier said than done) and roll with Eaton in LF, Thompson in CF, Heyward/Upton in RF and Shuck is the 4th outfielder.
-
Anyone know what Heyward and Upton are projected to make annually? If Upton is in the 20M+ range then I say spend the extra and go for Heyward. Either way the Sox lose a pick so if they are genuinely interested in a FA with a QO attached then, f*** it, go for broke.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:54 PM) Would much rather pay 75 million more to upgrade both hitting and our atrocious OF defense than pay our biggest contract ever and ensure that our defense will be awful for a long time. Very tired of this video game approach to improving the white sox. Yes! And alot less K's than Upton too.
-
I really hope not. If the Sox are going to give up a pick for a FA then try to get Heyward in a contract with an opt-out Claus. Heyward's defense, LHB and low K rate are much more appealing.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) I mean lets say Fulmer and Anderson are off limits... You gotta hope at that point that Montas is a good enough starting point and then let them take their pick of everyone else, but I have a feeling that the Reds are going to make some one pay something crazy for him, they are trying to rebuild that Franchise and Frazier is their best chip, if I'm them the conversation starts with Rodon. I agree. The Sox need a 3B but I don't think they have enough of what Cinci is looking for or to compete with another team in a trade. I could be wrong but I just don't see it. Maybe it's my biased towards the idea of trading for him due to cost and second half performance. I'd rather try to find someone else for 3B.
