QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:41 PM) Pass +1

Not a horrible deal seeing as how its only for two years but giving up a comp pick to their division rivals is what cracks me up. Two years of Lackey buys them time to develop his replacement I suppose.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) I just don't see vanquishing a young promising 2b, who plays excellent defense, for a proven .300 OBP. I'm just trying different ideas. I still prefer trading for Lawrie to play 3B and starting Sanchez at 2B. If the Sox cannot find a SS then Saladino can hold the position down until Anderson shows he's ready. Might not be the most optimal plan but he Sox aren't in an optimal position either.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) Maybe correct the thread title. He hasn't been posted. He's a free agent. Anyone can negotiate with and sign him. Good eye Vance. Mods...

Kim's defense is suppose to be "solid" so it could be safe to say he would b a upgrade in LF. I really really hope the Sox get afterr this ball player and sign him. If I had to choose I would easily go after Kim over Hwang. I know Kim's stats are from playing in the KBO but I think he has a better chance of adjusting to the MLB than Hwang.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) Chris Sale faced 854 batters last year. Jose Abreu had 668 plate appearances last year. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) The difference a hitter gets 4 chances to impact a game. A pitcher usually gets 30-35 per game. Their influence on the games they do pitch in is much greater. Great posts. Only thing I'd like to add is the fact the Sox play 81 games per season at the Cell which IMO, adds to the importance and value of pitching.

I think the Sox are transparent as far as their needs but as far as potential trades/signings they definitely fly under the radar but that can be said about alot of teams. I think it feels like the Sox are more secretive because we as fans are more focused on all things Sox related first and foremost.

Way to go Levine, Sox fans read that piece on the Sox site too, nimrod. When will Levine just go away?
-
The only rationale I can come up with is the Sox looking at a Danks for Nova swap straight up. Gives the Sox 3 lefties and 2 eighties in the rotation and frees up money to make a splash for a FA position player? It's a stretch, I know but that's all I can come with off the top of my head.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 08:55 AM) I think they have a short stop in the high minors almost ready. Plus I think they drafted on with their first pick last year. Right again. Man I'm off today.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) Where would the White Sox play him? Same dilemma as if the Sox were looking at signing any other FA outfielder. If necessary, LaRoche becomes a platoon/ bench bat for late innings with Melky at DH and Kim in LF. I like that Kim won't cost a pick or prospects to acquire, just aa contract. Of course, this doesn't help the left side of the infield situation but he would provide some pop from the left side of the plate. Just throwing out the idea.

My boldest prediction yet. A few trades will be made, some fans will be happy and some fans will be pissed. Bet the house on it!

QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 05:45 AM) As others have said if Ray is available he will be the pick but if not, which i don't think he will since he has the highest floor of all the college bats, Jordan Sheffield fits the sox very well. Short(er) stature, amazing stuff, bullpen to rotation transition, unique pitching motion and Vandy. Similar profile to Fulmer and possibly as quick of a path to the majors. Sox have shown they're capable of consistently identify and developing top level arms, Sheffield with all this perceived questions fits them perfectly. I watched video and Sheffield's delivery reminds me alot of Fulmer's though not as violent looking. Noticed a few nice looking curve balls too. Interesting prospect.

Now this is a very intriguing bat. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/hyun...offers-kbo.html Stats http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=kim---004hye Has some pop and with high OBP potential. Hope the Sox are looking into this player. Mods: could you please correct my spell checker? The first name should read Hyeon-soo. Grrr.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) Well Rosenthal tweeted this morning that they'd like to move one of Ethier or Crawford. The only way it works for White Sox is without LaRoche. They could take LaRoche back and release him. They've done it before. Multiple times. I think the Dodgers can find a better deal for Ethier than trading for LaRoche only to release him. Ethier's value has rebounded and could go up more depending on how much the big FA outfielders contracts look after they've signed. Danks could be a somewhat realistic option but very doubtful since the Dodgers need a legit front line starter and have McCarthy coming back. Danks would certainly fit into that ball park very well though.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) Arenado will be on another team by the time McMahon is ready. McMahon was in A+ last year. You're right. Not sure why I thought he played AA last year. I was just looking at Houston's AJ Reed so I think that's where I got confused even though Reed plays 1B. Arenado has three years of control left and is viewed as the new face of the Rockies so at some point I'd guess the Rockies look to extend him like they did with Tulo. I don't think the Rockies are going to trade him.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 08:02 AM) I like that idea. But I do value Montas, with our pen so devoid of quality power arms. Lawrie just isn't very good. I just have a thing about .300 OBPs. And then there is the Beane factor. Sox love piling on for Billy. I like Lawrie as the best available and immediate option of the third baseman.. McMahon is a preferred choice no doubt but even if the Sox were to get him, McMahon still needs time in the minors since he's just played AA ball to this point and likely starts at AAA in '16. I hear ya about trading with Oakland though. Not a big fan of the idea myself. If Billy wants too much for Lawrie then I have no problem with looking elsewhere. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) This remains the most obvious trade to me, unless the Sox can get an impact bat in a deal involving Montas. You trade bullpen arms for position players all day long. Yes, I know Montas is not a bullpen arm, yet. The Sox have young pitching, the Rockies have young hitting so there's a potential matchup for a trade and Hahn has said he is open to trading minor league pitching for minor league hitting. Another idea would be to trade Anderson for McMahon since the Sox need a 3B for the future and the Rockies need a SS for the future. Especially after the s*** the Reyes has put himself into off the field and is looking more like he needs to play 2B on the field. Anderson is rated #38 fwiw so there's a potential fit there as well.
-
I wouldn't mind Ethier but I can't see why the Dodgers would take LaRoche just to sit him on the bench.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) Which is why we should scout and do due diligence on the 3b arenado is blocking. Arenados War was 4.5 so let's not over hype him. Rockies need a bevy of young pitching. E Johnson should be attractive, esp as he doesn't seem to be a member of Cooper's first team. I agree about going after McMahon but with first base open for the Rockies they can put McMahon there when he's ready. That said, myself and a few others have been talking since mid summer about trying to trade Montas for McMahon since they are rated so closely together in the top 100 with Montas as #54 and McMahon at #50. In theory its a fit but if the Rockies are high on McMahon then the Sox might be SOL.

I'm not against Hwang but I have backed off and hope the Sox go after Lawrie. Lawrie is younger than Hwuang and has years of MLB experience and Hwang has none. Imo, Lawrie makes much more sense than Hwang after thinking more about it. I would check in with the Marlins about Prado' availability/cost and kick the tires on Freese as well just as fall back options. FWIW, none of these players are by any means my first choice, just what I perceive to be the most realistic options for the Sox at this point. But who knows what tricks Hahn might have up his sleeve.

I think the new catching duo is something to be excited about. A healthy Avila is is better defensively than Flowers and Navarro is at least on par with Flowers except Navarro has a better arm. The Sox should be throwing out more base runners this year and the platoon bats of Navarro/Avila should put up more offense than Flowers as well. The catching position needed to be upgraded and has been and it did not cost the Sox prospects or much money which leaves plenty of resources to be used to fill a few gaping holes.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) I'd want more than just Joc if Q was going the other way. Same here. Q has more value than Miller. Problem is that Pederson doesn't fill the void at 3B or equal the value of Q. Pederson and Peraza would make some sense.
-
Two trades and one signing. I have a few ideas bouncing around but I'll leave it at that for now.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) How crazy would it be if we moved a Quintana package for Arenado and CarGo...lot of people would be mad because they think these guys only hit at Coors Q/ Montas for Arenado/CarGo? Sadly, I just read something recently about how the Rockies view Arenado as the new face of the organization now that Tulo is gone. It's still fun to dream though, right?
-
Thanks to the FA contracts starting pitchers are getting, the combination of Q's contract and performance make him extremely valuable. For me, talks with the cubs start with Schwarber + one of Russell or Baez and I would try and squeeze Vogelbach from them too. If the Cubs agreed, I would turn LaRoche into a bench bat and personal 1B coach to Schwarber during practices. Schwarber is plenty young enough to learn the 1B position. While he's learning he can be the DH and spell Abreu from time to time. This is interesting in that the teams do match up very well for a trade. I still doubt they would actually pull a blockbuster but both teams are desperate in their own ways.
