If the Sox trade EJ I wonder if they go with Montas and use '16 to get Montas acclimated to MLB hitters, somewhat similar to what they did with Rodon. Surely there will be ups and downs but having Montas with the Sox keeps him working closely with Cooper. Personally, I don't think Montas is ready but if the Sox feel he is then who am I to question a team that does a fine job handling pitchers?

MLB free agent predictions: Who should sign Jeff Samardzija?
BlackSox13 replied to whitesoxjr27's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My guess is Samardzija ends up signing with Toronto. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 07:24 AM) This is exactly how I feel about the Quintana situation. Tom Fornelli does an excellent job here: http://www.writesox.com/2015/11/jose-quint...ade-rumors.html Yup, I feel the exact same way. Q isn't going anywhere.

The problem isn't Levine, its that most Sox fans do not know how to speak Levine. An interpretation of this article can be much different if one learns to read between the Levine lines. What I got from the article is that the Sox trade LaRoche and minor league scraps for Arenado, trade Melky/Cream of Sumyoungguy + prospects for Trout, Danks/ EJ and more minor league scraps for Correa/McCullers/ Keuchel, SD gives the Sox Norris for cash considerations, Thompson/Robertson to Wash for Harper/Turner (plays 2B for Sox), Sox sign Heyward to an 8/200M contract, Sox also sign Chris Davis to a 4/league minimum contract just because Davis is in " win now" mode and finally the Sox sign Mark Buehrle to go on a whirlwind magic mystery tour for his final MLB season where he shakes hands with the masses and kisses babies in White Sox onesies. Y'all just don't understand Levine.

No, Tim Anderson is not ready for MLB... yet
BlackSox13 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Great writeup and could not agree more. Despite the hole at SS, Anderson is not the solution, yet. Would rather go with a stop gap for '16 and see where Anderson is at after the '16 season is over. I'm excited about him but I can wait until he develops more. -
Not against the idea of Rich Hill but how many innings can we realistically expect from him? Up until last season he hadn't started a game since 2009.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) Good call on Singleton, completely forgot about him. He'd definitely be worth a shot as a 3rd/4th piece in a package. And while we are the topic of forgotten prospects...is Jonathan Villar not worth a shot at SS? I know he has Game changing speed but not sure how well his bat would fare over a full season or what his glove is like. Hard to gauge Villar since he's been moved around so much. I found this article which gives a little insight. http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2014/10/6/691...jonathan-villar Reminds me a bit like Starlin Castro with the bonehead plays. He does have youth on his side though, so who knows? I like his offensive potential but really not sure about the glove.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) Thanks. I didn't list Reed because the Astros have no real 1st baseman and I figured they won't trade him. He's a monster though, I would gladly take him in a package lol. I tried to list the guys that make sense for them to try and move. Which is pretty impressive when none of those guys (including Reed) are in their top 4 prospects. Now that you mention it, I think I read something during the deadline that the Astros are very high on Reed so leaving him out was probably a smart move since they are likely not to include him in any trade. For me, Joe Musgrove is the arm I would want back in a trade with the Astros. Big, big man that knows how to get GB outs. Would love to get him somehow. JD Davis is interesting as well. Big arm for 3B and plenty of power, although he K's quite a bit too. Call me crazy but I'd take a chance on Singleton as a throw in from the Astros. After enduring Dunn and now LaRoche, why not, lol.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 03:31 PM) Moving on...Let's talk about the Astros and the abundance of talent that we could use. Some guys I could see them giving up that interest me.... OF- Preston Tucker- Probably never going to be an all-star but he was a very successful college player and has a .294/.363/.503 triple slash in the minors since '12 and hit 13 HR's and a .734 OPS in his 1st 320 PA's in the majors. 25 year old LH corner OF with a little experience at 1B as well LJ Hoes- Another guy that has some flaws and probably won't ever be great, but he's another 25 year old who was a fairly high pick who has extended success in the high minors....299/.388/.399 over 1300 PA's in AAA. Above average speed with 26 steals in AAA this year. Has played all 3 OF positions after being converted from a 2B earl in his career. Derek Fisher- Comp round pick in '14 after leading Virginia to the CWS. Has a very smooth left handed swing that should carry him, but also has + speed. Slashed .275/.364 /.483 with 22 home runs this year in his 1st full season of pro ball across A and A+ INF- Colin Moran(3B)- Former 6th overall pick that Miami curiously traded. His power still hasn't showed up but he keeps making good contact and getting on base. .306/.381/.459 at AA this year. JD Davis(3B)- 3rd round pick in '14 as a 2 way player out of Cal State Fulerton. Astros made him a hitter and he's settled in nicely as a 3B hitting .289/.370/.520 with 26 HR's in A+. Great athlete with a real nice swing that should have no problem translating at any level Pitchers- Michael Feliz- Failed a drug test coming out of the DR and the Astros scooped him up and he's been great ever since. Saw some inning in the majors this year after dominating in the minors. A 6'4 225 lb righty with a fastball in the mid 90's and a power slider. Joe Musgrove- Another big righty at 6'5 255 with a mid 90's fastball. 1.88 across 100 minor league innings this year ending in AA. So yeah, how do we get a package going from the Astros? They could definitely use Q after Kazmir walks....Tucker, Moran, Feliz, and fisher for Q? Maybe too much to ask for? Good research on your part and I'm glad to see you mention Musgrove who fits the profile the sox would like in a pitcher.Only player you missed was AJ Reed, a big power hitting 1B that I'm sure the Sox would desire. Nice job.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 06:45 PM) The garbage we gave up is marginally more valuable than garbage we received. The Sox did not get fleeced. Samardzija just didn't show up this season. None of the players the Sox gave up are going to amount to anything, except perhaps Semien as a league average player. I beg to differ. With the lack of starting pitching depth, it would be nice to have a guy like Bassitt to give EJ some competition in ST. After the starting five its Beck and Drabek. Would be nice if the Sox had Bassitt to compete with EJ in ST. Not like EJ is a sure thing for success. With Ravelo only being 23 and showing that so far, he can hit for Average and a high OBP, how can you say he won't amount to anything? His future is literally unwritten. The only knock on the guy is that he has yet to hit for power which, given his age, could still happen. I admit he lacks power for a 1B but that doesn't mean it will never develop. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I will admit I am biased because I hated the idea of trading for Samardzija before it even happened and now in hind sight, I hate it infinitely more.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 06:39 PM) You missed the most important part of the deal for us which is the 1st round pick. And how many years will it take to determine if that comp pick will turn into anything? The comp pick is a complete unknown.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) How exactly were we fleeced? Not to be a smart ass but seriously, look up the numbers yourself. In short, Phegley posted better numbers than Flowers. Bassitt posted better numbers than Samardzija. Ravelo is 23, healthy and going into his first full season at AAA and he has high AVE/OBP potential. Considering the Sox have a lack of hitting in the farm, I wouldn't mind a young player with that potential, even if that player doesn't deveop power. Semien, Meh, I can live without Semien but imo and I said it at the time of the trade, Bassitt and Ravelo were the players I didn't like parting with. Then there's the fact that all four of the players the Sox sent to Oakland are under control for years to come and the Sox are left with Ynoa and the memory of one s***ty ass 2015 season from Samardzija. The Sox got fleeced so bad, Oakland should be brought up on charges and the Sox FO sent for psychiatric evaluation for being so stupid. It was like Steven Hawking making a trade with Forrest Gump.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) maybe it is me or my mood of really being indifferent right now. but i really don't see anything really wrong with people post of Q and the northisiders. remember i would rather see and read things from some who are not followers or just being with the main crowd. now what ever my opinions are of these trade ideas, i will keep to myself. now, i really have to say this, with all honesty, you really been really thinking, not as a fan but as someone looking at this with open eyes and with the knowledge that we are dealing with the present owners, so the cost will be a factor. i am not really convince with any trade speculations from fans on any of the core of the present sp's. i see a trade of pitching prospects and maybe Hawkins, MJohnson, J May, as extra's to sweeten the pot. again this will be all dependent on who the player the sox are looking at. now with ref to Pitt, beside my crazy ass idea, i am looking at how Pitt may want to move S. Marté .... b/c of their need of of pitching help plus the emergence of Austin Meadows, plus their opinions that he may be ready for the big league next yr. I like the idea of trading pitching prospects for hitting prospects, makes a ton of sense. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) this was just announce on MLB trade rumors. Ah-seop Son will be posted next week. does anyone think the sox will enter a bid??? Yep, I do. A LF that should: upgrade LF defense, hit for a decent average and draw walks. Could turn into a solid #2 hitter and be cheaper than Melky. I know Melky isn't worth much but I think he could be traded to make room for Son. I would rather keep Melky and trade LaRoche but, I digress. I hope the Sox do go after Son.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:07 PM) The Sale and Quintana trade ideas with the Cubs need to stop. Amen brother! The cubs won 97 games in '15 and are in need of pitching. I highly doubt JR is interested in helping his cross town rivals become even better and moving them closer to a shot at the WS. There are 28 other Baseball teams the Sox can trade with in an effort to make the '16 White Sox better.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) again, you are making an excellent and reasonable post, looking at the picture that is on hand. ref to the yanks, yes that was the move and in opinion everything kind of stems from this. problem is, how many other teams will or should be competing against the sox for this trade???? many. the problem that is negative that i was reading is the has a prickly personality, but was that also said on Aj and another catcher in the 90's that did well for the sox??? now someone mention Dunn and laroche failure when being compare to Alvarez, while they made a really good point, it is not the same.... too much difference there, PA is in his last Arb yr and next yr the sox can not give him a QO, so it is a win-win deal. in addition lets look at the age, there is a big difference there. also he carries a prickly personality as well and that is why Pitt been trying to trade him. Hou was looking a a nice trade last yr with San but it fell threw. the sox can slide in and pick up where San missed. again Hou wants a Sp whether it is #1 or a #5 but they really want another Cl.... they have a lot to offer... now Stl, Lackey is a FA and so is Heyward. there pitching prospects are at least a yr away and i figure they will make a move when Heyward situation is settle. now for the immediate moves. i have been looking and i really can't see no help on the FA front so Freese is the only choice. Speculating on a return for Q is interesting and all but I seriously doubt the Sox actually trade Q, or Sale for that matter. As is, the Sox rotation is Sale, Q, Rodon, Danks and EJ. After the front three, there's a big drop off. Danks is a number five and EJ, well, the jury is out until we see if he can sustain success in the majors. EJ created some doubt in my mind when he s*** the bed in '14, not that he cannot or will not get better, its just a wait and see approach from me, a Sox fan. My expectations of EJ are curbed. After those five the Sox have nobody ready to step in. Montas needs to be a starter at Charlotte and Fulmer needs time in the minors in '16. Honestly, the percieved pitching depth is an illusion once we look beyond the front three. IMHO, its not the position of strength people believe it to be. Now is not the time to trade starting pitching with such weak depth. The SOX need another season to see what they have in Montas/Fulmer and to give the young A/AA ball pitchers another year of development to get them closer to being MLB ready and then re-evaluate the pitching depth of the Sox organization. Next year would be be a better time to deal one of Q or Sale, but not now. Waiting another year gives Rodon more time to develop into the front line line pitcher he seems destined to become. If the Sox were to trade Q, were looking at Beck or Drabek as likely replacements. With so many holes in the lineup, the Sox aren't going to pay top dollar for any of the top FA pitchers so that would leave the Sox with looking at 2nd tier pitchers, pitchers that likely won't replace Q's production and yet could still cost even more than Q's salary. Bad idea, imo. Not only that but spending money on a FA pitcher takes money away that could be spent on hitting by FA or through trades. Pitt: I'm not against Alvarez but in all honesty I just cannot see Pitt having interest in LaRoche. I think the best we can hope for is LaRoche turns things around enough to become tradable in '16 at the deadline.

Byung-ho Park bidding rights won by Twins, $12.85 m
BlackSox13 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:50 AM) And their defense looks embarrassingly bad. Sano anywhere but DH is a good news for the Sox. Sano at 3B and/or LF for more than a handful of games would be comical. Assuming Park isn't much of a defender, so he'd probably find himself at DH most of the time with Mauer at 1B (if they get the deal done). But Joe will need his rest, so Park will definitely get some time in the field. The Twins really screwed the pooch with Mauer. He is plenty athletic enough to play other positions. THey should have stuck with him in the OF, or at least given him a chance at 3B. I hear ya. Not sure how the Twins expect Sano to play LF, dude is 6'4" 260. Not very mobile imo. Perhaps the Twins can give him a golf cart to play LF with? -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) Excuse me? Typical? What are you talking about? If you posted something, I probably missed it. I did read a tweet yesterday I believe saying they are trying Sano in LF, but I don't see that happening successfully. I think LDF is referring to the brief discussion the two of you had yesterday on if the Cubs were the winning bidders, what would they do about 1B with Rizzo already there. It's all moot now since its the Twins that won the bid. Just trying to clarify is all. Anyway. Twins lineup looks even more potent now with the power potential in that lineup. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) excellent ... excellent discussion. this was not a fantasy of idea and trades but an idea of what is out there, looking at the teams have in surplus and thinking of what the sox needs. those mention is or could line up with the sox .... the only problem is what will be the cost. another team i am hedging on, that is b/c what is being written is back and forth on what they intend on doing. at the trade deadline, Col was thinking of 2 more yrs and making a push, now, i get no feel of what they want. To be honest I think we're looking at a pretty mellow winter this time around. I doubt we see any major moves involving big names like Sale and Q. Not that the Sox won't make moves, just going to be less than what Sox fans maybe hoping for. Not trying to be a gloom and doom pessimist, just realistic in my own expectations. Given the Sox financials and that they are trying to hold onto key prospects, I think we end up seeing Asdrubal Cabrera signed to play SS and Freese signed to play 3B. No, these aren't the big names some are hoping for but they won't cost draft picks, can be signed for an affordable price and are upgrades over what the Sox currently have available for those two positions. I'm glad you mentioned the Yanks yesterday. The Yanks have no room for Gary Sanchez and the Sox could use a young catcher with an arm and power in the bat. Sanchez would be a less costly option than Norris whom SD will likely want nice prospects in return. I'd like to point out that none of these players would be my first choice, just players that can be had without costing the Sox huge money or dipping into the farm. I would expect more next year after Danks and LaRoche contracts are off the books for good. This year, I'm just trying to humble my expectations.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) name='BlackSox13' date='Nov 8, 2015 Thing is, is that the Sox are looking for players that can help sooner than later, they won't rebuild which is what teams do when they trade for players that won't be ready for 2-3 years. If the SOX were to trade Q, there's going to be at least one MLB ready bat coming back and another not far away from being MLB ready. For example, something along the lines of Q to Houston for 3B Villanueva (MLB bat), 1B AJ Reed ( ready by '16/'17), Mark Appel ( Cooper project still with front line potential) and Joe Musgrove ( big durable ground ball pitcher the Sox would likely covet). I think this is along the lines of what the Sox might look for when listening to returns on Q. excellent - my post is based on my opinion of the depth of said teams. you are correct, the sox will want a mlb player plus. Yanks: they talk s*** every year about how they need to trim payroll and blah blah blah and yet their payroll continues going up,lol. They have said they aren't trading Bird, Severino or Judge so that pretty much takes them out of the bidding for a Sox starter. Supposedly they have expressed an interest in Samardzija which shows they, once again, are willing to spend money in the off season. no matter what the yanks are or are not saying. they have a catcher who will be mlb ready.... again i was looking at what the sox needs Mets: They have 65M in salary commitments for 2016. With their pitching so young and cheap, I think they hit FA pretty hard for at least a few hitters. They have money to burn and likely will. Plus, the Mets do not need pitching. good point, but they are very one sided in their ideas of trades. good luck mets. Toronto: IMHO, will definitely hit FA in search of pitching. Don't forget that AA was criticized for trading so many prospects this past season which probably means they cling to what they have left. yeah you are right, but again it goes back to actual cost of the fa's. STL: the Cards aren't getting a pitcher like Q without giving up a few top prospects so if what you have read is true, I believe ya, the Cards aren't trading for Q. The Cards stand at 101M for committed salary in '16 so they have money to burn and will have to if they want to keep their best prospects. exactly, but the big question mark will be Heyward and his salary, if he resigns. if he does not, how much will the cards accept from the owners to have the salary cap at a certain $$ value. that question with ref to Stl, has always bothered me, what will be the max Stl will have for a team salary. btw, very well thought out post about the what may be a very interesting couple of weeks. Yanks: are you thinking of Gary Sanchez? I think he's definitely obtainable from a Sox perspective. Big arm and power, just needs to work on defensive skills. Not sure what it would take to get Sanchez, Sox reliever + low level ML pitcher? Sanchez would be a cost effective solution to Flowers. I like the idea. Cards: not sure how high they are willing to go with payroll. Wouldn't surprise me if they end up in a bidding war with the cubs for Cespedes. Just my opinion but I don't think STL is going to offer what Heyward ends up commanding so STL turns their attention to Cespedes. just a guess really. Mets: wouldn't surprise me if they end up with one of Parra/ Upton, heck, maybe both. I think the Mets are fine on the IF but need help in the OF. Toronto: could see them in a possible bidding war with the Yanks for Samardzija. I think they plan to put Sanchez into the rotation to cover one of the SP holes. It's going to be fun with the GM meetings approaching but in the end I just don't see Sale, Q or Rodon going anywhere and that makes me happy.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) you make an excellent point. the way i was looking, i was looking at players who will be able to slid in in 2 yr or 3, so those teams i mention have a solid list of prospects who drafted college players and just need time to learn and further develop. Hou most definitely, but here is where i will differ with you.. Stl wants and according their comments i have read, they want to look at what they can trade for before they will do it in the free agency. they will not touch any of their top 5 thru 8 prospects, but they have a very strong system, now, the yanks have what for a team payroll 200 mil payroll before even the first idea of obtaining players, they want to be a little frugal until some of their high contracts comes off the books, plus for the high salaried team, how many times have they made the post season?? Mets don't have that kind of money but they are really strict in dealing and some of the prospects they have, outside the top 10..... oh well. tor needs a sp and a rp, they tasted the playoff and well, they may play.... but i am looking at prospects who can supplant the system, the key players need to come from the FA's list. nice post. Thing is, is that the Sox are looking for players that can help sooner than later, they won't rebuild which is what teams do when they trade for players that won't be ready for 2-3 years. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) i put up a post, something in line as your post suggestion. i thought long and hard looking at the prospects. for me, STL, HOU, TOR, even Yanks. some can make a case for Mets, Dodgers. all these teams are looking for cost control but the bold are the main one imo, really looking. I think Houston makes the most sense for a potential trade partner. STL, Toronto and the Yanks have money to buy FA pitching. Dodgers could be interested although they have the money for FA pitching too but the Mets don't need pitching with Wheeler expected back in '16. I seriously doubt the Sox trade any one of Sale, Q or Rodon but if they did, I'd say Houston matches up very well as a trade partner.
