  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) I didn't argue either. Didn't help. I was too polite. Not supposed to argue and you should be polite. It's was you that broke the law, not the cop. It was you that made the cop do the job he is paid to do so just accept responsibility for your actions. It's only a misdemeanor and won't go on your record as long as you have no prior moving violations and don't get caught doing it again. Think about it Greg,is it really that difficult to just stop at a stop sign?
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 09:06 AM) They aren't getting anyone CLOSE to Q for Castro. Hell, they'd be lucky to find anyone who is willing to pay for him at any level. I never said they were. The point is it would make more sense for the cubs to trade Castro to open up 2B for Baez and sign a FA starting pitcher. Q has nothing to do with it.
  3. QUOTE (daggins @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) Not me. Schwarber would instantly be our best hitter, and Candelario and Baez are far better than any of our infield guys. Q hurts, but Montas is a bullpen arm and Carlos Sanchez is a bench player. Gotta give to get. With the cubs making the playoffs and a good year in attendance, wouldn't it make more sense for the cubs to trade Castro, plug Baez in at 2B and sign a FA SP? The cubs were rumored to be shopping Castro at the trade deadline and are rumored to try again this winter. The trade doesn't make any sense for the cubs to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Schwarber.
  4. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 03:22 AM) I think he'll go to the Angels or Astros assuming Sox don't get him. I can see him being phenomenal in that Houston lineup. Can't see him in Houston. Theres literally nowhere to put Hanley. The outfield is full, they have two third baseman already, Gattis at DH and Singleton at first. I guess Houston could include Singleton in a trade for Hanley, that would open up a spot and especially if they don't bring Carter back. If Houston doesn't include Singleton then they have to play him considering Singleton's contract which leaves no room for Hanley. The Angels could try Hanley out at 3B to replace Freese but that would seem to be the only spot open for him. I just don't see a big market for Hanley. My guess is Boston is stuck with him. But hey, I've been wrong plenty of times before.
  5. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 09:42 PM) What did he say? Better you listen for yourself. There's a video in the NY times link.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 08:21 PM) LA has some decisions to make. How confident are they to trade Ethier and hope for rebounds from Puig, Pederson and Crawford at this point is what he is...a declining speed-based player with an ugly contract (not unlike their situation with Manny Ramirez, Juan Pierre and Andruw Jones five seasons ago). The problem is that they have less incentive to trade Ethier now...if not exactly an asset, he's not a huge liability either. The biggest problem is whether Hahn's ready to throw in the towel on Garcia (send him to the minors for one year and then move Cabrera to DH?)...do they honestly believe they can compete with Ethier, Eaton, Cabrera, LaRoche and Abreu as the offensive core? Maybe they do. Who knows? Good points Caulfield, Ethier has bounced back to the point where he is much closer to being worth his contract and probably will be after the big four FA outfielders sign their next contracts. With Crawford seemingly un-tradable and the Dodgers reluctance to trade youth, it would seem Ethier could be the best candidate to be traded unless the Dodgers have soured on Puig. Sorry for derailing the thread, back to Hanley.
  7. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) Well, Valbuena will probably be available when the Astros get Hanley. I understand that Zobrist is 34 but he will continue to be a better baseball player than Valbuena for at least 2 years, and he can play 6 positions. And won't cost anything in trade. Wait, now the Astros are getting Hanley? Zobrist or Valbuena is debatable. Personally, I'd rather have Valbuena due to reasons I've already mentioned but that's just me. As far as Hanley goes, I think Boston would have to eat more money than they are willing in order for the White Sox to be interested. If the Sox look at a deal where bad contracts are exchanged I'd rather look into Ethier since he does give a little pop from the left side, can still hit and best of all is not a mental basket case.
  8. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) That seems totally deserved to me. Dirty slides are awful and cheapen the game. Agreed, that was more of a tackle than a slide and imo, undoubtedly dirty. Lost alot of respect for Ripken after hearing his moronic comments, what an idiot.
  9. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 06:18 PM) Not if you sign Zobrist as your starting LF and backup plan at 3B, moving Melky/Avi to DH. It's obviously not without risk but it's an avenue to upgrade 3B and OF (and OF defense) at a fraction of the years and dollars required to just sign one of Upton/Cespedes/Heyward/Gordon. And it is not one of the clown ass proposals that presumes to trade the entire farm and/or Quintana (during a rebuild!!!) to get Frazier or Longoria (not happening) or Arenado (not happening). I have to imagine 3B is where Hanley would most want to play. I don't buy that he's done at 31. If we don't get him, he is playing 3B for the Angles or Astros next year. Sorry but I'm not on board with signing Zobrist due to his being 34. I could see a one year deal with a mutual option but that's as far as I'd go and its likely he can get a 2 or 3 year guaranteed deal. I do agree with you on the trade proposals and I doubt the Sox sign any of those free agents. Longoria is not the player he once was, Frazier's second half combined with moving to the AL scares me and Arenado just ain't happening. Besides, the Sox do not have anyone that can immediately step into the rotation to take Q's spot which means the Sox have to force one of Montas/Fulmer before they are ready or sign a FA which will be costly. Q will be pitching for the Sox next year. Just thinking out loud here but I wouldn't mind the Sox trading for a player like Luis Valbuena to play third and supply some power from the left side. Slide Melky to DH and use LaRoche off the bench, move Eaton to LF, Thompson to CF and sign Parra to play RF. The entire outfield defense improves along with 3B. Not the best ideas but the Sox are in a difficult position.
  10. Not to pile on but I just cannot convince myself to get on board with the idea of Ramirez regardless of how much money Boston was willing to send. Pain in his throwing shoulder is rather concerning and if the pain came back, sure he could be moved to DH but then the Sox are left with a void at 3B... again. Think I'd rather go through another season of LaRoche and hope for the best.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) True, but cmon. 1 a.m.? Not drunk? Side street? No pity for Greg? Sorry Greg, no pity. As I said, I've had numerous tickets such as speeding, wreckless driving and was caught drag racing twice on the street. I never argued with the cop because I knew I was in the wrong, just accepted that it was my fault. I know rolling stops are kind of petty but it can lead to developing a bad habit to where you roll through all stop signs and that's a bad thing in residential areas at any time of day or night. Another thing is and I mean this with no disrespect, its pretty bad that you rolled through the stop sign in front of the cop. It tells the cop you weren't paying attention to your surroundings. Just stop at the signs my man.
  12. Cub fans have become accustomed to playing the role of victim and making excuses when things don't go their way. I guess decades of losing will do that. All pitchers do things to the baseballs and its not just pitchers, their catchers help out with that as well. Good grief cub fans are pathetic. Go Cards!
  13. Way to go Cards! Sweep this round and move on to the NLCS.
  14. Must give credit to Iwritecode. He initially came up with 15.5M so I'd say he was pretty damn close. This is good since there's no chance Samardzija accepts the QO. Bye bye.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 11:33 AM) Sounds like a bust Yep, horrible career he's had. Oh well. Going food shopping this afternoon and yes, I'm wearing my Sox hat as I do 365 days a year. Does that make me a Sox fan or cub hater?
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) Whatever happened to that guy? He turned into the motor city mad man.
  17. You can't win with cub fans though. If a Sox fan roots against the cubs, the Sox fan is a "cubs hater" but if the Sox fans were to actually root for the cubs, *barf*, then the Sox fan is a wagon jumper. In the end I am a Sox fan first and foremost, period! In my life, any time the Sox made the playoffs the cub fans I know cheered against the Sox, its to be expected so why should anything be different now that the cubs made the playoffs? Hell, I went out and bought a Miggy Marlins jersey after they knocked the cubs out of the playoffs and then wore it to bars with a Sox hat on. Pissed off ALOT of cub fans.
  18. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:51 PM) So they can join us. Speak for yourself. As bad as the Sox have been, I am by no means miserable. Bad seasons happen.
  19. I don't see the problem, stop means stop. No offense meant Greg. That's coming from someone that has literally had enough tickets in his lifetime to wallpaper a mansion.
  20. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) Was asked by my boss today why I couldn't cheer for the Cubs so that my Cub fan friends could be happy. He says "So you want them to be miserable the rest of their lives?" As a SOX fan, the answer is a resounding YES I want them to be miserable the rest of their lives.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) I don't see Montas helping the Sox in '16 either, especially as a starter. This is true and if Montas is to maintain his value he will need to be a starter in AAA next year. I'm just not looking forward to another season of bad defense or poor offense from the 3B position but, for McMahon I would gladly wait. Plus Trey is only a step behind in his progression. I'm guessing McMahon begins '16 at AA while Trey starts off at A+.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) Ryan McMahon. Rockies. Probably a couple years away, but I think a Montas - McMahon swap makes too much sense. Yep, I had the same idea a few months ago. Both are in the top 100 with Montas #54 and McMahon #50. Sox need a 3B and the Rockies need pitching. One hangup could be that the Rockies might be looking to slide McMahon over to 1B after Morneau's contract is finished after '16. Only problem is that the trade does nothing to help the '16 team since McMahon doesn't project to be ready until '17.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:04 PM) I don't think it would take a lot. Of course you never know, he may not be blocked if they end up moving Bryant to the OF permanently and trading Castro or Baez (of course I guess that would open up Soler to be dealt but I think Villanueva is odd-man out as you never hear anything about him). Maybe someone like Beck since they are close in age and both made it to AAA this year. Not sure if that's close or not, just thinking out loud. It does sound as though Villanueva is the odd man out.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) The only guy that comes to mind (while not a huge year but someone who could probably be had for cheap) is Christian Villanueva of the Cubs. Turned 24 in June, 20 homers, about a 16% K rate, .257 avg, .314 obp, .752 ops. May not be perfect but better than what's in-house now. I like this idea alot. Not sure if there's a match but I'd happily give Villanueva 3B next year to see what he could do. I'm sure the cubs would want pitching, just not sure what the Sox could give that the Sox don't want to give up.
