QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 01:07 AM) Are LDS series 7 games now? No, I screwed up. I'll change it now and thanks for pointing that out. Not sure what I was thinking.

Good grief, the WC games have nothing to do with the Sox and people still want to b**** about them in this WC thread. White Sox b****ing has spread like a filthy disease and has expanded beyond the boundaries of the Pale Hose forums. Anyway, back to post season Baseball. For those interested, here's the schedule and probables. http://m.mlb.com/postseason-schedule Call me crazy but I'm liking the Astros chances against KC.

Well this game sucked, lol. Oh well, go Cards, Mets, Blue Jays and Astros!

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 12:08 AM) Who is a LF you're anticipating will provide 30+ HR? Cue the trade for CarGo idea.
-
Imo, the Sox need defense over power. Eaton in LF is an upgrade over Melky and Trayce in CF is an upgrade over Eaton. I'll take that.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) Cubs fans are like roaches. Ouch. Roaches everywhere are insulted by being compared to such lower life forms like cub fans. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) This is why people hate Cub fans. The Cubs can't just win and be happy. For some stupid reason the entire world has to be happy for them. I wasn't happy when the Twins won. I wasn't happy when the Tigers made the World Series, why on God's green earth would I be happy that the Cubs won? Seriously, f*** the Cubs and their fans. Preach on it! QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) +1 +2!

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) I feel like regardless of where you put him in the infield, he would bring very poor defense. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) Desmond strikes out a lot, doesn't get on base at a good clip, and commits lots of bonehead errors. I can picture Soxtalk absolutely hating him if we signed him. Can't say I disagree with any of this. No doubt Desmond comes with many concerns and by no means am I advocating signing him, just wanted to point out that short stops can move to third. Honestly, I would prefer to steer clear of Desmond due to things you pointed out and I flat out don't think he will be worth the contract/$. I'm absolutely clueless as to what the Sox will do for 3B in '16. Frazier will cost plenty of prospects, K's alot and has a low OBP so I'd rather steer clear of him as well. I just don't know about 3B... We could see a ST battle between Olt and Davidson.
-
As far as Desmond goes, there have been plenty of short stops that have moved over to 3B so its quite possible he could play third. As long as Desmond has the arm strength he could end up being a better 3B than SS after some time to adjust. I'm not so concerned about Desmond's ability to play 3B as I am about his asking price, QO status and willingness to move to 3B.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Seconded. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 01:40 PM) Jayson Stark @jaysonst 1h1 hour ago Jayson Stark Retweeted ESPN Polled 20 baseball execs. 18 took the #BlueJays to get to the World Series. So I've got lots of company! I'm right there with ya.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 06:29 PM) nice, i can see Corey Ray - of. Bobby Dalbec - 3b/of/1b Chris Okey - cat of course the other pitchers like A.J. Puk Alec Hansen the surprise is Boldt who is not having a nice cape cod time. that is if i am reading this right over the weekend. now i am really torn on the positional players of ray, dalbec and okey. however i am still leery on okey. he will need to put up some decent numbers again. thanks for the link. Holy cow I have some brushing up to do. Too early for me yet, I'll wait until the season begins in February before I start my wish list. Right now I'm just trying to get familiar. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 06:51 PM) Thanks for the find. I will get familiar with some names. In the 14 draft, I wanted Rodon, however, I did waiver back and forth between him and Kolek. But, I did want Rodon more than any of the 3. In the 15 draft, I wanted Fulmer from the very beginning when we all realized that we had pick 8, if you don't believe me go look at that thread. I do have a pretty good track record of getting our picks right, so you should all take my word As for this year, I'm going have to do some research before making the pick that the Sox will eventually make Right on SoxPride, keep that track record going. I'm hoping the BPA is a bat @ #10.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 07:18 AM) Starlin Castro is somehow, someway going to make an absolutely terrible play and it'll cost the Cubs the game. That's my prediction. Paging Steve Bartman. Steve Bartman, your presence is required in Pittsburgh Wednesday night. Thanks.

Just playing some devils advocate here. http://www.fueledbysports.com/2016-mlb-mock-draft/ Obviously this should be taken with a grain of salt but there's nothing wrong with getting familiar with some names now.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) Particularly given the timing. I imagine there are extenuating circumstances that we may never hear about. I wish him good luck. I really hope we don't hear of those circumstances to be honest because everything I have ever read or heard about says that CC is a genuinely good person and I would hate to see him raked over the coals. I wish him the very best in his recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the mound in '16.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 05:11 PM) All I know is that signing Heyward would be a MAJOR mistake. The money the Sox would use on him would be much better spent on other areas of weakness like catcher, shortstop, or third base. Absolutely agree with you. There are too many holes to fill on limited money so spending 20-25M per season on one player would be stupid.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) We have reason to believe it. And yet the names of Arenado, Frazier, Heyward and Puig continue to be mentioned. Point is that the Sox aren't the only team that has bad luck with trades and FA signings and, IMHO, should not be deterred from NL players just because they have not had luck with them in recent years.

I like the mobile version.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) Just head on the Score that CC Sabathia is going to rehab (alcohol) and will miss the playoffs. The Babe just rolled over in his grave. I give CC credit for checking himself in. Must not have been an easy thing to do.

QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) Think they'd have Farmer do TV at home, and Rongey do radio? That would be white sox-y. I was thinking the same thing. I really liked Farmer and Stone together on the radio, sarcastic as hell with each other which to me was hilarious. With all do respect to Hawk, I'm glad he's cutting it back or the Sox are cutting him back, whichever.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 11:59 AM) Thompson hasn't won any job but he's certainly put himself ahead of Avi Garcia in RF. Whether the team wants to retool or rebuild, I can't see any scenario where the FO can argue that Avi is a better fit than Thompson. People say I am a Thompson hater but I think he's better than Avi across the board. Thompson's contact rate, walk rate and offensive success will not translate over to next year but he can certainly make a positive impact to the team. I don't think Garcia can. My fear is we come back with Melky/Eaton/Avi/Thompson/LaRoche for the three outfield spots and DH. If the team wants to improve they need to move forward from either Avi or Cabrera. Avi is just a lot easier to cut bait from because he doesn't provide any value other than the outside chance he changes his swing/approach and improves his terrible defense over one winter. He's essentially free. Cut the cord... I worry about him becoming the next Beckham/Viciedo. The fact of the matter is the Sox need to improve at 3B, SS, C and OF/DH. 3B is the must and C/SS are going to be really tough. The team needs to get creative at the OF/DH spot and infuse either/both offense or defense there. I hate pointing to the Cubs for a good example of what to do but look at them bringing in Coghlan and Fowler over the past two seasons. These are very low cost acquisitions that have given them plus contributors and flexibility. Either one of those guys would be one of the best three offensive players on the Sox. The Sox need to start converting on their supplementary pieces. Good post raBBit. I'm beginning to lean towards moving on from Avi myself. I've been one the fans saying Avi is young and should get another year to see if he can improve but I'm losing faith quickly. Looking at his numbers over a full season is disheartening as a fan. Poor plate discipline, poor pitch recognition, piss poor defense etc leave too much to be desired. It's too bad LaRoche is pretty much un-tradable. Would love to see an OF of Eaton, Thompson, Parra with Shuck as #4 OF and Melky moved to DH. Time to get back to pitching, speed and defense; the way Baseball should be played.

Definitely pulling for the Astros and Pirates.
-
Trayce has won the opportunity to compete in ST but that's as far as it goes for now. We'll see what happens in March. I am pulling for him though.
-
Two things on Heyward. 1) were talking about Eaton type offensive production with a 20-25M per year salary. Yes Heyward improves the OF defense but at a very steep price. 2) If the Sox had the money for Heyward his salary likely chews up the open funds and the Sox are left with no money to fill holes at 3B and Catcher. Heyward alone does not make the Sox a contender.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) They have CarGo and Blackmon in the OF. Avi would have a spot there. Micah isn't necessarily a 2B, he has the tools to be converted to something else. I know Beck was injured, so what? Doesn't mean he can't be traded. He's just a throw-in. Montas does need more time- when did I say he would be thrown right into their rotation? Fulmer has all-star potential as a SP. They also have Dickerson so there is no spot. Micah can be converted to something else? Like what, lol? No room in the outfield with his health and puss arm and Colorado has no DH so why would the Rockies be interested? Beck is exactly that, a throw in... for a young stud 3B. Think about that... Montas, nobody said anything about being thrown into the rotation but the Rockies are looking for starting pitching and Montas has yet to establish himself as a starter. Montas does not hold enough value as a potential starter, and the few games he started for the Sox was unimpressive. Fulmer does have all star potential but were also talking about an under-sized starting pitcher that has pitched in A-ball. Fulmer has value but still comes with a few questions marks. If you were a Rockies fan, would you do this proposed trade?
