  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 12:04 PM) And Viciedo being paid $13 million for them would have infuriated people. Come on man, what is your point in all this? Viciedo had his shot and failed so the Sox signed Melky. It is what it is and I'm done with this pointless topic.
  2. Imo,Trayce by a long shot. I think Trayce has more potential for extra base hits, lower strike outs and more walks than Avi. Trayce also plays better defense. I'm not saying Avi will never improve or that I've given up on him but at this point, I take Trayce and see what he can do in a full season. Avi can still get at bats as a part time DH/LF/RF.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) Since we're in a thread on Viciedo, it's worth noting that I'm still amazed at how many people are genuinely ok with Melky producing basically Dayan Viciedo's 2012 and 2013 numbers while being paid $13 million for it. Thing is, Viciedo no longer produces those numbers at the MLB level which is why the Sox signed Melky in the first place.
  4. I didn't see this article by Callis posted but I found his take pretty interesting on a few of the Sox young pitchers. It's from September 3rd. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/147118960/pi...-top-afl-roster "If we want to bet on someone with a higher Draft pedigree, White Sox first-rounder Carson Fulmer will likely be the first Draft pick from 2015 to join a big league rotation. The top two picks in the Draft, shortstops Dansby Swanson (D-backs) and Bregman, may not need much more than a full season in the Minors. Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi is on the fast track as well." Which White Sox pitching prospect has the best chance to be a long-term starter: Spencer Adams, Carson Fulmer or Frankie Montas? -- Ryan S., St. Louis "Among the three best pitching prospects in the White Sox system, Adams is the safest bet to be a long-term starter. He has better command than either Fulmer or Montas, and he also has superior athleticism, more efficient mechanics and a more desirable build. That said, Fulmer has the best chance to become a front-line starter. He has a mid-90s fastball and a power breaking ball, and his makeup and track record are off the charts. Fulmer lacks size and may need to tone down his delivery, but he brings quality stuff and performance start after start."
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) Probably true. Maybe an NL team will bite. Sox probably would have to play at least five million of it though and Jerry won't approve that. I'll say this about Melky. At least he hasn't been completely worthless like LaLob. Melky did get his average up to .280, though I do despise him as a player, too. I would trade LaRoche in a heartbeat but its not something I am counting on. I know if LaRoche were on another team I would not want the Sox to trade for him. Even if a team offered to pay 5M, no thanks. I hope I'm dead wrong but I just don't see LaRoche going anywhere so I've come to accept he will be in a Sox uni for one more season. I really hope that the Sox use him as a bench bat and move Avi to the DH spot to open up RF for Thompson. As for Melky, I think the Sox are getting exactly what was expected from him and he's one of the few bright spots offensively this season. He doesn't have much power but he never has. He started driving in some runs once he was moved to the middle of the order and imo, he provided some protection for Abreu. Protection LaRoche failed to provide. I really have no complaints about Melky and I'm glad he's on the team. Aside from HR's, he's better in pretty much every offensive category when compared to the player he replaced, Viciedo. I do realize though, that improvement came at a pretty steep price.
  6. EJ pitched well, Thompson with a 3B, 2B and the pen looked good. I am not going to complain and am happy to see the Sox sweep the DH. Hopefully Q can pitch 7+ tomorrow to help the pen and get Montas the start on Wed.
  7. Sox fans could do their self a big favor by accepting that LaRoche will be on the team next year. No team is going to trade for a player that earns 13M and cannot hit. The Sox are not going to pay LaRoche that kind of money to not be on the 25 man roster. All we can hope for going into 2016 is that LaRoche turns it around or can provide some value off the bench. It is what it is.
  8. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) Oh, that was you. OK. Yeah, that's weirder still. No kidding! Looking even more weird. 3-0 Sox!
  9. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 06:31 PM) Funny thing is after I decided to make my prediction I didn't even remember what he had posted. Mike was calling for Wolf to shut down the Sox offense but your prediction and mine are very close, and looking pretty good so far.
  10. Did Avi really just generate some lift under the ball for a SF? What is going on?
  11. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) Wolf is an old, declining scrub with minimal talent at this point in his career, so chances are that he'll shut the Sox down haha. No way man, these kids are Wolf hunting tonight! Call the animal rights activists.
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) I'll play along Mike. I think that for some crazy reason this lineup puts some runs up against the lefty Wolf. I know, call me crazy. Wolf: 5.1 IP 7H 5ER 2BB 3K QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) I'll play. 5.2, 7 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 6 K Whoa, that's close!
  13. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) How about we predict Randy Wolf's stat line against this little league offense? I'm guessing: 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K I'll play along Mike. I think that for some crazy reason this lineup puts some runs up against the lefty Wolf. I know, call me crazy. Wolf: 5.1 IP 7H 5ER 2BB 3K
  14. I really don't see this lineup as being so bad considering its late September and game two of a DH. Oh, and the names Flowers/LaRoche are not on the lineup card so there's that.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) Which is exactly why he shouldn't be taking up a major league roster space for us. Could not agree more. Melky, Eaton, Thompson, Shuck, Avi and LaRoche add up to six players to fill three outfield positions and the DH spot. The Sox need to subtract from that group, not add to it.
  16. Where does Viciedo fit in on the team? The Sox are already full up on outfielders and should-be DH's.
  17. We are talking about the same Viciedo that we could not wait to get rid of just last winter, right? I take his AAA numbers with a grain of salt. If the Sox thought there was something there he would have been called up.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 20, 2015 -> 02:20 AM) 15 years? He'll be gone as soon as he hits free agency with Boras as his rep . We still get to enjoy Rodon for six more seasons and at the end the Sox get a comp pick so there's that. Hell of a stretch Rodon is having! He's come such a long long way in a short period of time. He's done an incredible job of limiting his walks.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) Continue to very much disagree. Get him to 200 innings. He's still a guy who "building up his arm" is a good thing. The extra innings this year could very well be the reason why he avoids a dead arm period next year. Absolutely agree. How can the Sox ever have hopes of relying on Sale in the post season if he begins to tire during September before he's made 33 starts? As long as Sale is healthy he needs to be out there pitching to keep stretching that arm out. How confident would Sox fans feel about Sale right now if the Sox were heading to the post season this year? I don't agree with the high pitch counts but Sale needs every inning he can get, even if its just five or six. Fans need to remember were talking about a pitcher that has yet to top 30 starts in this his 4th full season as a starter. This is the first season he can actually top 30 starts and hopefully he does.
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 09:46 PM) I'm not thinking of getting laid, but I do know that she'll have to be.... Uh - yea. Are you constipated again hi8is? Might I recommend more Adam LaRoche in your diet? The beard should help keep things more regular for you. I was just looking at 2016 salaries for the Sox and there are some significant pay raises which I believe is what Balta has been trying to point out. I knew there were some raises coming but they are more significant than I had previously thought. For anyone interested, have a look: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q5c...pub?output=html Namely I'm looking at Sale, Q, Eaton, Abreu and to a lesser extent Robertson, LaRoche and Duke. Add those player salary increases up and it comes out to an addition 15M added to the 2016 payroll. This does not include arbitration cases such as Avi, Flowers and Soto. Here's the scary part. Let's say the Sox buy out Alexei and walk away from Shark bait. The savings from those two players is easily cancelled out by salary increases and arbitration cases. I just do not see the Sox making even one significant FA splash this off season without somehow trading salary. 2016 is going to be the developmental year that 2015 should have been. It is what it is I guess.
  21. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) The Sox do have a lot of holes Catcher also is a huge hole to me. Agreed. Problem is that decent hitting catchers are so fricken hard to come by.
  22. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) I do agree If we could combine them....................separately I do not see either guy being a long term answer. I'm laughing at us both right now because how you feel about Sanchez is how I feel about Johnson. With other positional holes that need to be filled, I think the Sox can be more patient with 2B. IMHO, 3B and RF are huge voids that must be addressed this off season.
