Fulmer: 3IP 2H 1ER 2BB 0K Clark pitching now and looking good!
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) another interesting thing with Fulmer, i am wondering if the sox will bring up Fulmer next yr. pretty much as they did with Rodon. the thing is i see Rodon further along in his development than Fulmer, i am really impress with the way the sox worked his innings and i am sure working with coop. I agree that Rodon is a bit further along. Personally, I'd like to see Fulmer spend more time in the minors next year and let Fulmer himself dictate when he's ready. However, who am I to question the Sox and the way they develop pitching? I thought the same thing this year about Rodon but the Sox saw something and he has improved vastly since the start of the season. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) They will probably do what they've been doing - tandem innings with Clark. That duo has been deadly too. I'd suspect we get 2-3 innings from Fulmer, then 4-6 from Clark. Yes, they have been deadly and very fun to follow. No doubt the Sox really have a keen eye for pitching talent. They know it when they see it.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) I came up with $15.5 million. Salary info if anyone else wants to check the math. Just checking but is that the average of the top 125 salaries for 2015? -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) This is correct. KW signed Melky Cabrera on his own. Supposedly Hahn thought they could have gotten similar production for a lesser price. KW wanted to stand pat in the middle of July to hold out for a last run, Hahn wanted to trade Samardzija in early-mid July. KW decided to wait. Thanks for clarifying raBBit. I was thinking it was something to do with Hahn and KW being split on what to do with Samardzija but was not sure. KW signing Cabrera sounds exactly like KW. I'm not knocking it as I was a fan of signing Cabrera but there's definitely a KW feel to it. This is what I do not understand. A GM's job is to be in charge of personnel moves but how can a GM truely be a GM if he has a non-owner for a boss that can trump him. To me it kind of take the Manager aspect out of the GM role. Is this exclusively with the Sox FO or do you think more teams have the same thing going on?
-
I wonder if the Sox will keep Fulmer limited to three innings or possibly allow an extra inning or two if Fulmer is pitching well. Going to be following this game on line tonight.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Yaaaaaaaa, Hahn and Williams have no idea what the plan is. That is plainly apparent. I remember raBBit saying before the deadline that KW and Hahn had different ideas on what direction the team should take, or something along those lines ( sorry if I remember incorrectly raBBit). I think there's something to be said about that and could be why JR is going to get more involved. Imo, Hahn is more in tune with the modern Baseball era and is inhibited by his immediate boss, KW.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) The 4 years 70 million is about what I figured and I also figured Shark would bet on himself (because he's Shark!...) and turn those offers down. Now, if someone gives him 2 years 40 million, he'll probably take it because he can rehab his value and get that "lifetime" 6-8 year deal he no doubt thinks he's worth and covets. Personally I will be pretty miffed if we see Shark next year at 17.1 million. They have other holes that many could go to. Insert Johnson into the rotation he'll give you 3/4 the production most likely at 1/10th the cost. I would be more than miffed! Even if the QO is 17.1M I still don't see Samardzija accepting it. Pitchers his age are looking for the long term security that comes with long term contracts. Plus it seems the Sox and Samardzija have soured on one another so I think Shark bait is as good as gone. One thing I noticed in last night's game was when Rodon got back into the dugout after he finished the 7th, every Sox player was standing up to congratulate Rodon except one. Samardzija was the only SOX player I could see that remained sitting on the bench. Samardzija did offer a fist to which Rodon met with an open right hand but again, Samardzija was the only sitting on his ass. Every other Sox player was on their feet and lined up congratulating Rodon. Maybe I'm looking too much into it but the look on Samardzija's face was less than enthusiastic. To me it was very telling. -

I know the QO is based on the average salary of the top 125 salaries so maybe Levine has been doing some math in his free time. If so, I have to give Levine some credit but it would have been nice if he had mentioned how he came up with the number. 17.1M does not sound like too big of a stretch. I think what's important is that Samardzija is still likely to reject the QO which is good news. Time for the Sox and Samardzija to part ways. Hopefully Erik Johnson continues to pitch well during the rest of the season and makes it easier for the SOX to move on. -
QUOTE (shysocks @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) I basically agree. I trumpeted the rotating DH model a little bit last offseason, thus the LaRoche signing was a little disappointing right from the start. So even though I think nagging injuries are partially to blame for his performance and he's a good bet for positive regression, I think trying to dump him is the right move. Think of the money we'd have to send along with him as buying a ticket to evaluate more guys. I liked the rotating DH idea myself but I admit I also liked the LaRoche signing at the time. Things just haven't worked out so far. I'm not counting on the Sox moving LaRoche, its admittedly wishful thinking on my part. I would use LaRoche as a LHB with pop off the bench but its doubtful the Sox would do it, but I remain hopeful never the less. I was just thinking more of realistic possibilities for 3B and I've seen the poster LDF mention the idea of the Sox going after Ian Desmond. If Desmond ends up coming without a comp pick, I can see the Sox exploring the possibility of trying to sign him to play 3B. I like his left handed power but his average has taken a hit this year so I'm unsure at this point but Desmond could be worth looking into. I don't even know if Desmond would be willing to move over to 3B but I like LDF's line of thinking.

9/8/15- Cleveland @ Sox 7:10 PM CT
BlackSox13 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in 2015 Season in Review
Rodon has matured by leaps and bounds this year. -
Great thread Jose Abreu and I cannot agree more. Baseball is bar far the sport I enjoy most and the winter so long without it.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Instead of ridiculing our ideas, come up with your own and contribute to the thread then. Fair enough. I'll post some thoughts but I will say right now they are subject to change until the post season ends and the FA list is set in stone. C- I know this won't be popular but Flowers will be here next year. No, he's not anyone's ideal catcher but catchers are not a dime a dozen and the pitching staff likes him. Imo, catcher is a hole but not the most important hole to be fixed. I'd like the Sox to try and find a platoon mate for Flowers, something along the lines of a Jason Castro who just might be available this winter. 2B- I stick with Sanchez. Sanchez has the glove and his bat is just fine for second. Sanchez is still quite young and his history shows that he adapts in time as he has progressed through the minors. I see no problem in letting Sanchez have a full season at second to see what he can do. SS- I lean towards giving Saladino the starting nod due to his youth, range, arm and glove. Buying out Alexei could save the Sox 9M that could be used elsewhere. Problem with this idea is who the hell becomes the backup? I guess Leury Garcia could be used and would probably defensively serve the purpose but his lack of hitting at the major league level concerns me. This is a risky proposition I admit and one I'm not certain on at this point. 3B- props to the member that mentioned Alex Guerrero. I think Guerrero is a realistic possibility since he can play 3B, albeit far from the best, and the Dodgers are likely to look into dealing him though that's just my opinion/speculation. He would certainly bring power to the position. Problem is his opt out clause. Supposedly Guerrero is open to an extension with the team that trades for him so if he were willing to do that, I would try and get him to play 3B. 1B- Abreu of course. DH- in a perfect world, I would try and trade LaRoche with cash over the winter. Turn the DH into a platoon spot for Micah Johnson and Avi Garcia. Micah can give Sanchez a breather from time to time and Avi can do the same for LF and RF. With Micah having defensive issues to go with his health, maybe it's time for the SOX to break the mold of DH and give Micah a shot a keeping those legs fresh and healthy. At this point, I would take Micah and Avi's production over LaRoche any time. CF- Eaton. RF- I'd like to see Thompson have a shot at playing every day. Worst case scenario, Thompson plays against LHP and Shuck plays against RHP. Both players are an immediate defensive upgrade over Avi. LF- I'm fine with Cabrera. SP- Sale, Q, Rodon, E. Johnson and Danks. Danks, imo, serves an important roll of bridging the gap in 2016 to a hopefully début of Carson Fulmer by the start of the 2017 season. Bullpen- not much needs to be changed. I would look into to keeping Albers depending on the cost but it may not be necessary. I should point out that the savings from buying out Alexei would go towards an extension for Guerrero. Same with any money saved by trading LaRoche, though that savings would not be much if he was even traded which I admit is not likely. Now there would be 9.8M left over from walking away from Shark bait. How to spend that money im sure I don't know. Not at this point. One thing I'm sure of is that Heyward will not be wearing a Sox uni and the Sox do not have the coin to get into a bidding war with the teams that will be after him. Same for Price. I have not looked at the FA list because as I said, its too early and I don't know the Sox financials but I do trust in Hahn's creativity. One thing I would not rule out is the possibility of the Sox taking on a bigger contract via trade which Hahn has said is possible. I would rather curb my expectations until things become a bit more clearer after the WS.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) i agree with him.... for pete sake, the season is not over, the FA haven't gotten a QO or not. plus the biggest question mark is the protected top 10. i not saying this is a crappy thread, i am just saying that it is too early. Thanks LDF. It really is early. It's going to be two more months before we can really begin to take guesses as to the off season plans because as you said, we don't know for certain the free agents. I am going to post some thoughts momentarily since we're in a rain delay.

Good grief. Some of these proposals are alot like the proposals us Sox fans see from Boston and cub fans regarding Sale. Looking to trade what they don't want for something that's good and then turn around and try to justify how the players they are looking trade are worthy, even though they don't want the players. It's an endless circle.
-
I can respect the time that went into the making of this thread and the ideas of what the SOX could do this off season, but... Why would the Rockies be interested in trading a 24 year old stud power hitting 3B? And why would they do it for that horrible package? The Rockies already have better outfielders than Avi, Beck is nothing special and Danish will be repeating AA, and the Rockies have LeMahieu at 2B so why would they want a defensive hack like Micah? The Sox would be laughed at. I can see something possibly being worked out for Rosario but not Arenado.
-
I like the idea of the Sox starting the season on the west coast. My only hangup with it is, imo, the trip should be more than 4 games since Chicago weather in early April is usually for s***.
-
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 09:31 PM) He gave up 3 runs, since when does that equate to a bad pitching performance? If the Sox could muster more than 3 hits, maybe Sale would have a chance. Read this Link and tell me he's useless without the slider. Seriously, right? The guy gives up 3ER in 7IP without his best slider. Most pitchers would take those numbers on a good day with their best stuff. Some Sox fans have become spoiled by what Sale did during that amazing stretch he had. Talk about making something out of nothing.

Could White Sox trade some pitching to fill other areas in offseason

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) Cespedes also has indicated he wants to return to Detroit for what its worth. Mark Not to split hairs with ya Lip Man but Cespedes also said this. “This is something I can’t control, I don’t know what the front office is thinking about,” Cespedes said through an interpreter before Tuesday night’s game at Marlins Park. “But, from what I have seen so far, I would love for everything to work out and I stay with the Mets for a long, long time, because I like the atmosphere.” http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...ticle-1.2315013 -
Three out of the eight batters Sale struck out were on sliders. That said, Sale did not have his best slider but those days happen. I wouldn't read too much into it.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 05:16 PM) should the sox give him another tryout, maybe at dh?? Just my humble opinion but heyell nah! Us Sox fans could not wait for him to be gone and now we want to give him another shot? As far as I know Viciedo signed a minor league contract and is a FA after this season. Maybe the Sox look to offer another ML contract with a ST invite but that's as far as I'd go with him. There is no room for Viciedo on the Sox. Much rather use Avi to platoon DH with LaRoche and give Trayce a shot at playing every day. Avi can be rotated into LF and RF for at bats as well. Plus the Sox have Shuck so there really is no room for Viciedo. Thank goodness.

Could not be happier about sweeping the Royals in KC. Well done White Sox.

Mike Olt dfa'd by Cubs, claimed by White Sox
BlackSox13 replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) He was released by the Cubs because they wanted to add another player to their 40 man roster and needed a slot, not because he was out of options. He was in their minor leagues this year so presumably he burned an option this year. Anyone know if he has a minor league option remaining for next year? You know, I scoured the net trying to find this out for certain and came up empty. This is the third year Olt has been optioned so he should be out of options but I know there is criteria for a player to potentially have a fourth option. Just do not know if Olt meets that criteria. According to wiki: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_Leagu...ll_transactions "A team may have a fourth option year on a player with less than five full seasons of professional experience, provided that both conditions below are met. A player has not spent at least 90 days on an active professional roster in a season. Minor leagues that play below Class A Advanced have seasons that are shorter than 90 days, and as such, any player who spends a full season in a rookie or Class A (short-season) league will receive a fourth option year. A player has not spent at least 60 days on an active professional roster AND then at least 30 days on a disabled list in a season. Only after 60 days have been spent on an active professional roster does time spent on the disabled list count towards the 90-day threshold. As with the prior example, this cannot occur with players who spend a full season in a rookie or Class A (short season) league. Once all of the options have been used up on a player, a player is considered "out of options" and a player must be placed on and clear waivers prior to being sent down to the minor leagues (there is also the "veterans' consent" rule; see below)." Hopefully someone that speaks Baseball better than I can help us Sox fans out with this. To me, it sounds like Olt is out of options. -
Dominguez came from the AL so AL teams would have first crack at him beginning with the team with the worst record and moving up from there so yes, the Sox had a chance at Dominguez before Toronto claimed him.
