Place your bets on if the FO buys or sells because time is running out.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) Reddick is purely a platoon hitter. Hits lefties worse than Laroche. For the price of a platoon, fine. Tyson Ross would be a good pitcher here.....but that seems more of a December trade, unless you are going to move Shark as part of the deal. Actually, Reddick is a tick better against lefties but I get your point. Nevertheless, I'd still take Reddick's bat and glove. Tyson Ross would push Danks out of the rotation for the rest of the year. Sale, Q, Samardzija, Rodon and Ross gives the Sox a hell of a starting rotation for a playoff push. Ross also makes it easier for the Sox to walk away from Samardzija when Samardzija hits FA. It would be a very smart move by the Sox to do it now.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:28 PM) That is just too steep of a package to give up for a rental. I'm giving up that sort of package for Gomez or Reddick or someone else. I don't know that the other teams do it, but that is what I'm trying to get. That package would be for both Ross and Upton. Could still be too much but I'm just a fan with an opinion. Reddick is my #1 target for a hitter but I like the idea of getting Tyson Ross as well. Problem ks, getting those two would clean the farm pretty good.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) Ya could be adding both because Morosi said this morning we were looking at SPs. Oh man, with all the rumors swirling around my head I forgot what Morosi had said this morning, lol. That would make sense.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) He's in general a better player then Cespedes (and a better defensive outfielder), however, Cespedes is having the better year. I just don't see us trading within the division. I don't see Cespedes happening either. I was just thinking and trying to understand the Upton interest. Obviously the Sox are in need of another bat but what I'm thinking is that the main target is not Upton, but Ross. I'm sure the Sox would prefer a bat that is not a rental but if taking on a rental to get one of the best GB pitchers in the league is what it takes, it might not be so bad depending on the cost. I will say that Upton plays much better defense than Avi and hits for more power so there are two big benefits. I'm curious about what a package would look like. Avi, Erik Johnson, Micah Johnson + ?

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) If it's just a trade for Upton, yes. Depending on what he costs maybe not. But if it's for Upton and Ross then atleast you have Ross after this year and Upton for the run. I really hope the Sox are not after Upton. He's a FA to be and K's too fricken much. Ross makes alot of sense though. GB pitcher that can strike batters out. Walks alot of batters but I can live with that. Ross would give the Sox an immediate replacement for Samardzija's rotation spot in 2016. From a Sox perspective, Will Myers would make more sense than Upton. If the Sox trade with SD I hope it's for Myers/Ross.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) This has KW all over it. That or just sports writers speculating as usual.

Doesn't a rental go against the Sox looking for players in the " 3 year window"?
-
QUOTE (South Sider @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) That's correct. I agree with your assertion that they could get a nice return, but I don't think it will be from the Sox. I think Cespedes was just a name floated out there, as I'm sure at this point with such little time left, the Sox are turning over every rock and looking at every possibility. Well said and I could not agree more.
-
QUOTE (South Sider @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) If the Sox are going to deal with Detroit for Cespedes, I don't think Detroit will get a very good return. I'm talking maybe 1 or 2 ok-ish prospects. Not much to worry about helping them rebuild. I'm thinking the tigers can fetch a decent return for Cespedes. A return the Sox are not willing to part with to their division rivals.
-
I think a better question in reference to Cespedes is; do the Sox want to help the tigers rebuild? That and Cespedes' contract stipulation leaves me with less than zero interest in a trade with Detroit. There are plenty of outfielders the Sox can go after.
-
Absolutely not! At the moment I would take Saladino, Sanchez and Ramirez over Castro which leaves Castro with no place on the White Sox. I would trade ( contract for contracts) Castro for Danks/LaRoche. The cubs would not, so I have nothing to worry about as far as Castro playing in a Sox uniform.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) I don't understand the heat here and I actually think this is a pretty fair trade for both side and I probably would be fully okay with that trade. Might be because I don't think highly of Avi and I highly doubt Hawkins puts it together. Yeah man, I agree. I don't think the trade is preposterous at all. I will say I think it's doubtful Hawkins is the kind of bat Oakland is looking for. I'm thinking the Sox get Reddick for Micah Johnson, Trayce Thompson and Jordan Guerrero.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Traded to the Cardinals today for a minor league pitcher. Mark That would be Brandon Moss.
-
Good news indeed even though Sox fans already knew. The Sox have a trade history with Oakland and Reddick's bat/glove would be a perfect fit for what the Sox are looking for. Come on Rick, make it happen!

I really really really hope the Dodgers hold onto Wood and Urias. If the Tigers are unable to trade Price for pitching, their pitching staff is f***ed for years to come. As a Sox fan, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I think the Dodgers keep the pitching and look to deal a few outfielders. The Dodgers can go after Price this winter and it will not cost them prospects they covet so much.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) Watching MLB network and they just talked to Morisi who said he thinks we are buyers, obviously but what is interesting is he thinks we buy another SP. The names he mentioned were Ian Kennedy from SD or Mike Leake from Cincy. No mention of a bat at all. Sounds like Morosi has it back asswards.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) now wight that cost vs not making the playoff. that should be the formula. Even if the Sox don't make the playoffs they still have Reddick for the 2016 season to help make another playoff push. Plus the Sox can look to extend him and keep him in RF for years to come. Reddick is a guy that could be apart of the future or "core player" as the Sox FO like to call it.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) i am for it... just wondering what the cost is. I have no idea to be honest. I would imagine the cost won't be cheap.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) Now that you guys mention it, I would love Josh Reddick as well. Shouldn't be as expensive as CarGo and we have good relations with Oakland/Beane. Heck yeah. Reddick would give the Sox some pop from the left side, play solid defense, hits for a good average and does not strike out much. I'm really hoping a trade for Reddick happens.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) This dates back to the infamous Chad Bradford Moneyball trade, although Olivo turned into Garcia eventually. Foulke/Mark Johnson/Joe Valentine for Koch/Cotts (eventually contributed in 2005). Swisher fiasco for Gio/Sweeney/DeLosSantos. Sanburn hasn't exactly lit the world on fire, although it's Adam Dunn we're talking about. Ray Durham for Adkins was one of the five worst of KW's regime. That's exactly what I had in mind. For me personally, I did not like sending them Bassitt and Ravelo for Samardzija. I admit I am high on those two players but cannot do anything about it now.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:27 AM) ? The same Oakland who got a terrible package for one of the top 10 players in baseball in Donaldson? Or next to nothing for Kazmir? No, the Oakland that seems to fleece the Sox every time they make a trade.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:37 AM) What kind of return would Reddick demand? He seems like a perfect fit. Well, he's playing in Oakland so the cost will surely be high. I think they would want Montas as part of the package. I wonder if Avi, Micah and Montas would be enough. Lol, probably not.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:29 AM) I wanted Reddick 2 years ago in a thread called something like Projected 2014 lineup . But Carlos Gomez who's also not on the proposed list would be great too. So I didn't vote for any of the options. I didn't vote either, Reddick is my vote. I've been wanting Reddick since he was in Boston. Really like his bat and glove.

Pablo out by a cheeseburger! The extra quarter pounder slowed him up just a bit.
