*sigh* Here's another awful article...

The idiot that wrote this must be buds with the idiot in Boston. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:57 PM) There ya go! But would warrant some cash from Dodgers. He's having a good year, but since June, his OPS is right around .700....nothing special. It's a monetarily expensive risk for ($38 million for 16 and 17, incl buying out 18). Yes, its definitely risky and money would have to come back to the Sox. Enough money to bring Ethier's salary down to match his level of play. Problem is that I doubt the Dodgers would be interested in Danks even though Danks would be a better pitcher in the NLW ball parks. The Dodgers would have to be beyond desperate, imo.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) I like that idea - except for the prospect part. We're taking the worst of it money wise. Guess I'm thinking that as bad as Ethier's contract is, he's still worth more than Danks. How about we get a prospect instead?
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) Maybe that will result in them finding a taker for Ethier instead!! I very well could and would make the Dodgers even more desperate to unload a contract like Ethier's. Not that LA doesn't have the money to waste, lol. I would take on Ethier's contract in exchange for Danks + prospect. Not sure the Dodgers would.
-
Sounds like the Dodgers assumed they could find a taker for Morse. The speculated third team was that assumption. Oops.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) Pittsburgh has been rumored to want to part with Alvarez on the "headcase/we're tired of him" level. If LaRoche were putting up similar numbers, which he was a couple weeks ago, I could have seen that making sense - the Pirates take on some extra money but remove their headcase problem. Unfortunately LaRoche's numbers have been in such a tailspin while Alvarez has had a good week, so it no longer looks like a plausible matchup. I remember reading something about that last weekend. Pitt was shopping Alvarez for something like a month or two with no teams showing any genuine interest. Shame, I would take that head case for salary relief that can be better used elsewhere. Oh well.
-
The point in contenders acquiring players is to upgrade over what they currently have. LaRoche's bat would not even be an upgrade over Alvarez so why would Pitt want anything to do with LaRoche? As Balta pointed out and I agree, STL is better off making a push for Lind and the same could be said about Pitt. We're seemingly stuck with LaRoche.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) If you sent them Anderson or Montas, they'd probably take LaRoche on for that return. Hmmm, that is interesting. I'm not a fan of trading for CarGo but if all it takes is say, Montas/LaRoche for CarGo I'd be all for it. I prefer Josh Reddick myself but he would surely cost so I'm not getting my hopes up.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) If it means we get Morse no thanks Amen to that! I wonder if a team like the Twinkies might have use for Morse as a platoon/bench player?
-
QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) Josh Reddick comes to mind. In general there aren't as many because of how many AL teams are still in the race. Now that's a name I like hearing. I was hoping the Sox would land him before he was traded from Boston. The Sox usually get proper f***ed when trading with Oakland but I would give it one last try if the trade is for Reddick. Any guesses to what the Sox would have to give up for Reddick? I would imagine the Sox could try and use Avi and Micah as part of the package.
-
I would take on Kemp and his salary provided SD took on at least one of Danks/LaRoche.
-
ARod for Danks/LaRoche. Get it done KW!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) Because the White Sox aren't likely to take on all of Cargo's remaining salary with their payroll constraints so the white Sox would have to send some salary back. The Rockies wouldn't normally be motivated to take salary back, requiring the White Sox to have to include a pretty solid player in the deal to get the Rockies motivated to do that. That's exactly what the Rockies did with the Blue Jays. They took back Reyes's deal which they probably didn't want, but they got the sweetener of Hoffman and others in the process. Aside from Adam's atrocious numbers, the Rockies have already said they would be better off keeping CarGo to further build his value for the rest of the season. Then trade him over the winter for a bigger haul. Sorry, just don't see the Rockies taking on LaRoche. I know the Rockies took Reyes salary back in return but Reyes is still a productive ball player, LaRoche is not.
-
The Rockies are trimming payroll and looking for pitching so can someone explain to me why they would want LaRoche? LaRoche has been hitting .141 with a .345 OPS for the month of July. No team is willing to take that on, just like Danks.
-
Odd that the Dodgers would trade for another outfielder when they have so many already. Latos makes sense but Morse?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) I just want to put this here again: http://grantland.com/features/aj-preller-m...al-league-west/ Seriously, thank you for being the voice of reason!

This is a very nice dilemma to be in.
-
Meh, so Pablo tagged one. No biggie. Samardzija is still capable of shutting them down for the next 4 or 5 innings.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) He's on pace for around 160 innings. That should be about right where they want him. It shouldn't become an issue as they've done a decent job managing his innings so far. Sounds about right. Carlos is at 77IP with 12 starts left in the season so there should not be any concern about topping out his innings.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) Leury's in Charlotte, so you'll have to find another way to get Johnson up Thanks for pointing that out. I'll fix that now.
-
I'm at peace with the Sox standing Pat since the rotation is playoff worthy and some bats have come alive. For right now, what might be the best moves the Sox could make are... 1- DFA Boni and recall Micah 2- bat Micah at DH and use LaRoche for pinch hitting/ defensive sub at 1B. 3- play Shuck more in a platoon with Avi. Shuck improves defense and production against RHP. 4- option Jennings back to Charlotte and recall Erik Johnson 5- Danks goes to the pen and Erik becomes the 5th starter These move cost the Sox zero money and prospects while improving their contending status, on paper anyway. Edit: subbed Jennings for Leury

Blue Jays interested in Quintana or Samardjiza
BlackSox13 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Sox were to trade both Q and Samardzija to the Jays, talks start with Norris and Stroman or piss off. -
I think Toronto is even more interesting now more than ever. 1- the Sox are on a winning streak 2- the Sox have Samardzija, Q and Sale pitching against a bad Red Sox team. 3- the Sox can always keep Samardzija for playoff push and still get a comp pick. 4- the Tulo trade showed the Jays are looking to win now. Even gave up Hoffman which was said to be off limits. 5- Toronto still needs pitching, badly. The Sox do not have to trade pitching whereas Toronto has to trade for pitching and if they really are high on Samardzija then it should cost them dearly. If they won't pay then its their loss and not the White Sox.

With the contracts of LaRoche and Danks, I have a hard time seeing the Sox acquire CarGo and his contract.
