Frankie Montas to join Sox for Double Header Friday
BlackSox13 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is Montas back with Birmingham now? -
QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 12:26 PM) Based on my ticker at the bottom of my posts I was only 34 days off on when we would send Conor packing So when does Boni's ticker begin?
-
Well done Spencer Adams and welcome to NC.
-
Good to see the FO make a move. In the end, Conor's lack of defensive versatility and power to go with poor hitting sealed his fate. Time to move on.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) serious question, which team, at this time does not think LaRoche is on the decline. which team will have faith that he would rebound???? none. None that I can think of. The way I see it is if these guys were hitting, the Sox would be winning more ball games and we would not want to trade them. Since they aren't hitting, now we want to trade them and retool the team?
-
While Melky has been hitting better, what team would want to take on his contract? Alexei is hitting .226 with a very noticeable decline with his defense. What team would want him? LaRoche is a power hitting 1B/DH minus the power, hitting .219, strikes out a ton and under contract through 2016. What team would want him? Talk about selling low to no bidders. If these guys were hitting, would we be so eager to trade them? Think about that... I agree that Samardzija gets traded but I'd be willing to bet it will be for less than many Sox fans ( myself included) are hoping for. While I'm fine with the idea of trading Robertson, I doubt the Sox are interested in trading him unless blown away and the same goes for Q who just last winter was considered " untouchable ". So realistically were looking at trading Samardzija which will not retool the team. Take the best offer as long as the offer has more value than the comp pick and move on.

Nice game by Danks and good to see Saladino continue to hit and play solid D. The Sox said they would ride a 6 man pen through this series so for now, Boni and Conor are safe. I'm starting to think Montas was called up specifically to work with Cooper and go back to Birmingham and continue starting. Agreed with those that say Conor appears to be the odd man out since he has the least defensive versatility amount the infielders. After this series, Conor DFA'd and another arm recalled for Tuesday?

Walker Buehler to get TJ surgery. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/07/dodg...e-to-terms.html " Buehler will require Tommy John surgery, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. While it’s impossible to guess exactly how much the injury cost Buehler, the slot value for the No. 24 pick was $2,094,400. He signed for $314,400 under-slot."

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) You figure it out. You've just saved $14 dumping Danks, that's a start. You're not gonna plug all those holes trading Q on his own anyway. You'll probably get back one very good prospect and some other stuff. Again, a bunch of Maybes. Thank you for admitting you don't have the answer to a very important question. Again, if the Sox wait until the off season to trade Q there will 29 other team calling Hahn. Q most certainly could fill a few holes at the major league level and bring back some very young minkr league talent with 29 teams willing to take on a pitcher of his caliper and cheap contract. It would be an all out bidding war for Q.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) No one said getting Puig instantly plugs all of our holes. Again, how do the Sox plug those holes after they trade a huge asset like Q away for one player? Seems nobody has an answer for that question. The Sox aren't going to continue dipping into FA.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) i would also add, if you don't mind. the sox are giving up 2 PITCHING assets and no pitching coming back. shark - unsure him coming back Q - traded Rodon- starter Dank - traded Sale - ace / starter. that is 2 known sp's starting the next season. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) and you dig a hole in the starting rotation. let alone if he will maintain his level of play. also throw in his attitude that has been documented. too much. you take an asset that can provide mlb ready prospects to continue to build the team. according to the sox FO, this is a 3yr plan. Absolutely agreed. Well done.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) You take a kid already at some prospects age with 2 years experience already with success over "prospects that deepen the farm" everyday of the week. Great, one hole has been filled. Now the Sox only need to fill 3B, C, SS, 2B and two starting pitchers but hey, they would have Puig. How do the Sox fill those holes now that one of their top assets are gone?
-
QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) Come on man, if you can get Puig for Q and Danks you take it and run. The Sox need hitters throughout the organization so taking one of your top three assets and combining it with your worst asset to get one hitter is a good idea? Meanwhile the Sox as an organization are still devoid of hitters so what do the Sox do to get more hitters? Trade Sale? Come on Sox fans, think this through.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) If they're desperate, they should take Q and Danks for Puig. With no guarantee of extending or signing Samardzija the Sox rotation going into 2016 would be Sale, Rodon who is still working on his command and control, Erik Johnson who has yet to show he can stay in the majors and produce and two open holes. So now the SOX have turned a strength into a weakness for one position player on a team that has many holes to fill. Plus, effectively devaluing Q by including Danks just to get Puig. Again, no thanks. Pass. If the Sox are to shop Q, the off season would be the time to do it where 29 other teams would certainly be ringing Hahn's phone to the point of giving Hahn a migraine. The only pitching the Sox should consider selling at this point is Samardzija and Robertson, that's it. The Sox are likely not contenders so they really are not desperate since there's plenty of time to makes trades between now and ST 2016. Puig is not going to turn the Sox into contenders this year.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) Yasiel Puig's career OPS+ would be 3rd best in White Sox franchise history (behind only Frank Thomas & Shoeless Joe Jackson). Are you kidding me with his attitude. Last year he put up a 140 OPS+. Also, while Dodgers want pitching, I don't know if they are desperate for it. I'd say Sox are more desperate for positional talent then Dodgers are for pitching. They do have Grienke and Kershaw a top of their rotation. And while the Dodgers might be dangling Puig, lets not act like his contract is a disaster. He is signed to an extremely affordable deal (although he probably will opt out and take arbitration a few times). Still, he's under team control until 2020. I'm glad you brought up Grienke. His impeding opt out makes the Dodgers even more desperate for a guy like Q. I agree the Sox are in need of hitting talent but not desperate to trade Q. There is a market for both Samardzija and Robertson, both of which can be traded to infuse more hitting talent into the Sox organization. And no, I'm not kidding you about his attitude. His attitude has been written about more than a few times going back to 2013 and here's the latest written about Puig's attitude. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2511284...dgers-teammates I know its the bleacher report but the quotes in the article speak volumes.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) Dodgers trade is focused on them adding pitching. If you moved Avi, he wouldn't have much value to LA, unless they wanted to have some depth back for Puig (which they very well might). It isn't like they are going to hand every at bat to Ethier (although they have Van Slyke who is solid and could easily handle some more AB's as well). Q is the key piece and I think when push comes to shove, you have to widely consider the move (although I'd have to look into hte detalis of Puig's contract and realistically what his cost would be during next few years. Adding Puig does mean you need to move at least one of Melky / LaRoche / Avi. I'd probably move LaRoche first, as Avi / Melky still have a bit more value in the sense that they can play multiple positions. Would also allow you to save some money. However, I'd also think about moving Avi and a Tim Anderson in a trade to a team to get a top prospect we like (as a 3rd team to help facilitate a prospect move). I think it's important to note that it's the Dodgers that are desperate for pitching and to shed Puig's contract. By no means are the Sox desperate to move Q which gives them the upper hand in any trade talks involving Q. Again, why would the Sox want a proven head case who's numbers are not all that impressive this year. Also keep in mind who Spiegel works for, The Score. Let's say the Sox are interested in Puig. Due to both the Sox and Dodgers needing to move an outfielder, its likely a third team needs to be brought into the mix in order for it to happen. Not that it could not happen, just adds to the difficulty of the trade. Again, Puig has a s*** attitude and the Dodgers can keep it. If the Dodgers really are desperate to move Puig then trade talks begin with Puig for Samardzija and go from there. No chance I would trade Q for that head case. Just my opinion though.
-
I say no. Why would the Dodgers want Avi when they have too many outfielders as is? From a Dodgers POV, the point in moving Puig is to get rid of his s***ty egocentric childish attitude while while trading away from a position they already have too many players for. I would not trade Q straight up for that head case not to mention Puig's numbers are not all that impressive this year. Pass.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 11:54 AM) oh sure.... side with the admin... i can how you are. but in all honesty, while that is a good idea, i just didn't want to rush him. i would like to do a lateral move with other rookies and change the scenery and present him to other pitchers, like the ones he was facing. just a different view. Imo, since Daily is raking it does make sense to move him up to challenge him, so to speak. He won't really get much better facing inferior competition.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 09:42 AM) NDFA signing. Clearly too much for AZL. He could maybe play 1B in Kanny - their first baseman (Alexander Simon) was just a need-a-guy pickup and he's about 2 levels lower than he should be, so he doesn't really need to be there. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) i was looking at that and a couple of of the rookie league players. but where to put them, is what i was thought. every players needs reps. can they move them around in the different sox rookie teams??? a change of team mates, a chg of pitchers facing?? I think NorthSide summed up best what to potentially do with Daily but Zangari stays put since he's only 18 and fresh out of HS.
-
QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) He graduated in 2014. I list him as a Non Drafted FA for 2014. He signed in Feb of 2015. Thanks for the rep!y, makes more sense.

I cannot find 2015 stats on Daily. Is it possible he was injured for the 2015 college season? Could explain him not being drafted.

Frankie Montas to join Sox for Double Header Friday

If there are some teams genuinely interested in Papelbon the surely there would be interest in Robertson. Robertson is 4 years younger and cheaper. The Blue Jays are rumored to have interest in Papelbon so they could very well have interest in Robertson as well. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:37 AM) Houston is also rumored to be looking for a 1st baseman. Maybe LaRoche wouldn't be better than what they have now but maybe the Astros might like the idea of getting a veteran leader to help the young guys down the stretch. Shark and the Rock both to Houston. I read about that too. The only problem is would Houston be willing to take on the combined remaining salaries which comes to around 10M the rest of the season. They should have the space for it, but I'm not their GM either. Would make the rumor mill even more interesting.

Entertaining the idea of trading Robertson, what contenders need a closer? I'm going to go and look around and see. Not for or against the idea, just open minded. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:15 AM) Certainly agree. I'm not sure why the Sox liked Samardzija so much in the first place. He's not really a ground ball pitcher, which they (rightly) prefer. I know what you mean as there were a handful of board members that were against the idea when it was just a rumor last November. I give the Sox credit for making a go of it but things just have not worked out and its time to move on. Hopefully Houston is willing to part with a few of their young hitters as it seems they have the most to offer in terms of the Sox needs.
