  1. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) Would you guys trade Shark, Putnam, and Duke for Judge and Sanchez? I would. You really need to ask?
  2. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) If the Yankees want Shark, Judge is the perfect return. Big power, good OBP, and an excellent fielder despite his monstrous size. And could always be turned into a 1B if necessary. At 6'7" he would be a huge target for infielders throwing over to 1B.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) My guess would be the tools are in place (range, arm, instincts, etc), but not the refinement. Field conditions could be an issue, as could attention span, and amount of practice. Good points and thanks for the insight. Makes more sense to me know.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) Judge is the guy for me. I doubt you're getting Severino anyway, and why waste your time. I'm with you on that idea. The Sox system is starved for power and catchers so for me, I'd ask for Judge and Sanchez while offering a reliever with Samardzija. I really like Severino but I doubt the Yankees are crazy enough to trade him for a rental.
  5. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 12:03 AM) Don't put too much stock into it. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) These are mostly 16-18 year old kids down there. This is a high school baseball game going on down there. I understand and agree. Just curious as to how a kid was scouted for his defense and makes 17 errors in 27 games. Could be poor field conditions?
  6. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 6, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) Ricky Mota made his 17th error in this his 27th game of the season. His defensive ability is supposed to be his strength as well. Good grief, what is going on down there? I know those kids are very young but were the Sox scouts off about Mota's defense?
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 6, 2015 -> 09:45 PM) I'm sure the Yankees are interested but if they think they can dictate the price well you come right back at them with thsi team offered us so and so for him. You must top that. Especially if it's team in the Yankees division. Absolutely and that's exactly what will happen. The ALE has four teams seperated by 2.5 games so theres going to be plenty of bidding for Samardzija.
  8. Very nice outing for Jordan Guerrero. Zangari 1-1 RBI The DSL must have been painful with the Sox committing 5 errors and the Orioles with 7 errors.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 6, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) Davidson now has 42 walks this season. That is pretty impressive. Yes it is. If only he could do something about those strike outs. Jordan Guerrero looking good through 3 innings. Kanny postponed.
  10. Anderson HR Davidson 0-1 2BB Drabek looking good through 6 innings.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 6, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) The Yankees don't act like they belong in the World Series every year now that George Steinbrenner is gone and his son is in charge. With old George in charge heads would roll , trades would be made and they'd overpay because they are the Yankees and anything short of a World Series win is not acceptable. I've seen they are already balking that they won't make trades unless the asking prices come down. Now whether or not that includes talks with the Sox , no idea , but it's sure not the Yankees of old we're dealing with. The way I understood it was the Yankees were referring to Hamels and Cueto according to this quote from mlbtraderumors. From that same piece, Marchand also notes that the Yankees aren’t likely to obtain an ace starter like Johnny Cueto or Cole Hamels “unless prices drop significantly.” Imo, the Yankees are very much interested though I have not seen anything directly related to Samardzija.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 6, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) Oh I wasn't saying take what Toronto has to offer now just trade him relatively quickly ify ou've had offers from 5 teams or so and you can play them against each other. Give it another 2 starts max. Oh OK. Gotcha. Just my opinion but the Yankees and Dodgers make the most sense.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 6, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) Unfortunately the more time that goes by the less starts Jeff can make for his new team. Maybe that makes a difference in the package offered, maybe not. But the more time that goes by the bigger the risk, Shark pitches bad or gets injured ala Jesse Crain . I'm not impressed with anything Toronto has to offer and there will be other teams interested in Samardzija so I see no problem with waiting.
  14. Imo, as long as Samardzija continues to pitch well another team with better prospects to offer will be calling the Sox FO. Toronto can keep their prospects. Patience Sox fans.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) Well I will admit that my knowledge of prospects is not as strong as some others on here and a lot of Houston's talent has graduated to the big club . The Yankees, Red Sox ,and Cubs all have big time hype machines ( called the local press) and east coast writers galore spouting off about their prospects which makes me distrustful of them . Of course that might not be the case but sometimes you just have to go with how things have fared between those clubs throughout history. Yes I am fully aware I am also spouting hogwash but karma is a b****. And the Yankees have always kicked the crap out of the Sox in every phase throughout history while when we finally won it was over Houston. Trade with the 'Stros and let karma do its thing. I'm with you man. I just think the Yankees are more desperate given their divisional race and their trade history plus they would be enticed by the idea of having first crack at signing Samardzija as soon as the off season begins. Imo, I just do not see Houston willing to give as much for a rental but as I said before, I hope I'm wrong.
  16. My preference is Houston but I think a desperate Yankee team will land Samardzija with Houston landing Mike Leake. I hope I'm wrong.
  17. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) yea, that's kind of how it read, but I don't think it means anything. Kind of a confusing article, with a lot of KW executive VP-speak. Williams came across as talking in circles but I think he's just as perplexed by this team as everyone else.
  18. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) ok, i need a little help here. when he was talking about july 31 and the no - other will be traded. so it is only stating 1 player and no one else will be traded??? I think it comes back to the only player that has value in a trade ( excluding the core players) is Samardzija. Players like LaRoche, Melky, Alexei, Danks etc aren't worth their contracts so nobody wants them if the Sox become sellers. Williams did say they would listen to offers for anyone but its not likely one of the core players will be traded. That's what I took from the article.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) Traded by Orioles to Brewers for K Rod. Suspended for PEDs, went AWOL from Brewers, Brewers released him and Sox signed him. Apparently not a good defender but able with the bat (can he play OF?). Haven't seen a scouting report on him since he has been on the Sox. Yeah it's hard to find any reports from the Sox. Older reports said he was good with the glove but lacking with the bat but more recent reports are saying good with the bat and not so much with the glove. Hopefully we will find out more when MLB publishes their updated top 30 for teams which I think will be coming out soon?
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) Same strategy a lot of us wanted to see with Alexei in the off season . Also many here wanted to keep him as I recall . Maybe the team will see the light this time. Exactly. I was on board with trading Alexei last winter but I guess it is what it is for now. With Erik Johnson seemingly ready to rejoin the Sox he would be perfect to replace Samardzija's spot in the rotation and see what Erik has to offer for the rest of the season. I have no problem giving a 25 year old RH starting pitcher a chance to see what he can do. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) Danks is always trade bait. Problem is the fish ain't biting on that smelly hook . Be realistic. Barring a huge miracle, Danks will be with the Sox through the end of his contract which believe it or not I am at peace with. Danks could serve as a bridge to Fulmer/ Montas when one or both of them are ready.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) i totally agree, but how would anyone know the selling would be better in July than now. that is if the team hasn't decided to go forth, in selling. Samardzija is emerging as one of the best rental options for contending teams so the Sox have the luxury of the wait and see approach. More teams are lining up with interest in Samardzija so let the bidding begin.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 10:31 AM) yeah, we as fans can wish all we can. but the FO always sees things differently. No doubt about it LDF. I see this as just having a discussion since the rumor mill has fired up. The only thing I'm certain on is the trading Samardzija, for what is the interesting part for me. With Samardzija pitching well and going deep into games he should net a return that could help the Sox sooner than what a comp pick in next year's draft would. Imo, sell high while the gettin' is good. Not necessarily now but at some point during July.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) i like the way this post is going. hou - Brett Phillips or Derek Fisher - of. Jacob Nottingham - catcher. however hou has some really interesting pithers. yank - Sanchez - cat, Jagielo - 3b, Tyler Wade - ss, Domingo Acevedo - sp. now i listed 4 players, i would like sanchez pluy 1 ot the following. Brett Phillips is a very realistic option since Houston has so much outfield depth. The Yanks Jagielo is certainly worth a look too.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 07:04 AM) i kinda wish that the trade gets done sooner than later. they should should put out the feelers now and see what is out there. this not doing anything is bull crap. Sounds like Samardzija is getting more and more attention on the trade market so that's a good sign from the Sox perspective. Always have more leverage when a team comes to the Sox instead of the other way around. Imo, I do not see a match with Toronto but Houston is very interesting. Would like to see the Sox get 1B AJ Reed from Houston. The Yanks are interesting as well and wouldn't mind packaging Samardzija with a reliever for Jorge Mateo and Gary Sanchez. I could be way off base with those proposals but I'm just thinking out loud.
