QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) the problem for me, is not knowing those advance stats. but for me, getting rid of danks and his salary vs who can help now and in the future at SS does that for me. it is a win - win situation. Excluding this year's salaries. Danks is owed 15.75M on the remainder of his contract while Castro is owed 40M+. I just prefer the Sox to have that financial freedom for future teams. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) Not if Castro is performing like this. It actually would make us worse. Exactly. Castro's defense and lack of hitting this year does absolutely nothing to inspire me to trade for him.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) I would. In a minute. Castro isn't awesome and the way he acts isn't helping him but he's a decent SS on a great deal. John Danks is a decent person and getting paid like a great baseball player. I guess my point of view is their contract lengths. I would rather have Danks for the next 1.5 years than Castro for the next 4.5 years. I just do not trust Castro's defense and his bat has not been very good this year either. Castro is just too lackadaisical on defense. IMHO, I pass on him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) If you trade Chris Sale or Jose Quintana, why in the world would you want Starlin Castro? I know, it makes zero sense but then again we are talking about cub fans. Honestly, I wouldn't even trade Danks for Castro. In fact, there's nothing the cubs could do or say to get me to trade for Castro. The guy is a complete bonehead and would be one of those idiots that smiles after he makes a game changing error. Nope, cub fans are stuck with that guy.
-
Wait, Sox fans aren't interested in an over paid lackadaisical regressing short stop?

Focusing on a positive here. The starting rotation is mapped out well over the next year or two. Sale, Rodon and Q have their spots in the rotation. Erik Johnson seems primed to replace Samardzija when he departs. Assuming the Sox sign Fulmer, he will be developing during the 2016 season which is Danks last season so hopefully Fulmer is ready when Danks becomes a FA. At this point, things are well lined up for the starting rotation.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) Just little over 2 months of minor league baseball left. Who is on your top 30 list? Reminder, Rodon, and Sanchez all have graduated from this list. 1. SS Tim Anderson 2. SP Carson Fulmer 3. SP Frankie Montas 4. SP Spencer Adams 5. 2B Micah Johnson 6. 3B Trey Michaelczewsi 7. SP Tyler Danish 8. OF Courtney Hawkins 9. 3B Matt Davidson 10. OF Micker Adolfo 11. SP Chris Beck 12. OF Trayce Thompson 13. SP Thad Lowry 14. OF Jacob May 15. SS Tyler Saladino 16. SP Jordan Guerrero 17. SP Jace Fry (TJ surgery) 18. 2B Jake Peter 19. RP J.B Wendelken 20. SP Andre Wheeler 21. OF Jason Coats 22. C Kevan Smith 23. 1B Keon Barnum 24. RP Miguel Chalas 25. SS Cleluis Rondon 26. OF Adam Engel 27. SS Eddy Alvarez 28. C Brett Austin 29. SP Yency Almonte 30. 3B Nick Delmonico Just missed: Onelki Garcia, OF Mason Robbins, SP James Dykstra, SP Robinson Leyer, C Omar Naverez, OF Antonio Rodriguez, C Jhoandro Alfaro, SS Amado Nunez, Myles Jaye. Thoughts? Very nice list my man! The only things I would list differently is I would put Fulmer (assuming he signs) #1, Montas #2 and Anderson #3. Just my opinion and there's certainly a case to be made about any of the top three in any order. No matter, Montas, Fulmer and Anderson all make a case for being #1 but there's no doubt that any of the three can make up the 1/2/3 order in any way shape or form. 2015 would be an interesting year. I'm liking the minors and what they have to offer at this point. Hopefully the Sox focus on development and not be overy concerned about rankings.

Adams stretching his arm out and throwing strikes is what's really important here. He's just 19 and a ways to go so there's no need to rush or cast him off as a bust. Growing pains is all. Look at it this way. Adams went tit for tat with the second over all pick from the 2014 draft for the second time in a week. Adams will be fine, just have some patience for the young ladd.
-
Wasn't there speculation last year that maybe Johnson's arm was tired from the increase workload in 2013? Johnson went from 92IP in 2012 to 142IP in 2013 and we all know how 2014 turned out. Might explain his loss in velocity and command in 2014.
-
Lol, Johnson with 92 pitches and 70 for strikes! I guess this is what happens when a pitcher regains his control and velocity. Also, agreed with Balta about waiting on Johnson. As time goes on it seems more likely Samardzija is traded and Johnson takes his spot. Unless of course Danks moves to the pen, which for now I doubt happens.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) So was is Thompson that homered and not Davidson? Yep, each listed with a HR.
-
Micah with a HR, Kottaras with a slam and Johnson on the mound looking good so far.
-
Speculation is a funny thing, lol. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/06/cafa...a-papelbon.html "White Sox left-hander Chris Sale is on a strikeout tear and teams would surely like to add him this summer. However, team sources tell Cafardo that Sale is not available. Even though the White Sox are in last place, they see him as the cornerstone of their franchise. Sale, 26, has a 2.74 ERA with 12.1 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 through 13 starts this season" Maybe things will change but it certainly sounds as though Sale is not going anywhere and I'm just fine with that.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Heck, if the Sox finish bottom ten in league, don't give up any draft picks for free agents, and get a sandwich pick for Shark, that'd be 3 picks in about rhe first 50/60. But I'd rather get a more polished prospect (s) for Samardzija. Agreed with all this. If Samardzija can continue to pitch like he has the last two games, the Sox will get a decent return, if not, take the Samardzija comp pick. Another option could be to try and get comp picks for LaRoche, Alexei and Melky. I'm not counting on all three but one of them could be worth a comp pick to a desperate contender if the bats come around.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 02:44 AM) I'm getting tired of hearing "the Cubs won't give up blank for Sale/Q cause they're the real deal." Then they don't get Sale or Quintana. Sale had the highest value in baseball and Quintana's is also extremely high. Agreed and there's another aspect not yet mentioned. IMHO, in order for the cubs to acquire Sale or Q the cubs likely have to over pay. If I'm the Sox, I'm not very intrigued by the idea of hearing about how well Q or Sale is pitching for the cubs for the next four plus years. It's a novel idea to talk about trading with the cubs because they are so loaded with hitting talent but in reality I doubt it ever happens. Not on this grand of scale. Besides, do we really want to give the cubs a chance at getting back at the Sox for the Karchner/ Garland trade?

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) You guys are complaining after a win? Jesus. Seriously! We just witnessed a miracle on 35th St. I'm going to enjoy this for however long it lasts.

A five pitch save! Very well done Robertson!

Lol. I was wondering how long before you made this thread. I remember what you said a few days ago. -
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 12:09 PM) The guy who caught A-Rod's 3000th hit, home run ball says he's not giving it back. But to me the incredible part of the story is that this guy says he's caught over 8,000 balls. I can't even get 1 when I'm at games. Ha ha, iow, its going to cost ARod to get that ball.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) Looks like what is out west is breaking up. The bad stuff could be late tonight. You're right. Man, did that change quickly. Just a little while ago there was a big swath of weather heading this direction. Game on!

Could the Sox get proper value in trading Sale?
BlackSox13 replied to Real's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 11:01 AM) Not devalues - taking a bad contract helps us get more value out of Sale since no team will give full 100% value in prospects. Attaching a bad contract usually devalues a player - but the Sox return will be below value in prospects no matter what deal they make, so they'll have to scratch out other value in different ways. And if they won't deal a top prospect, they don't get Sale. And why would the Dodgers want Melky? Puig, Pederson, Schebler and VanSlyke are all better options than Melky. Plus the Dodgers are still stuck with Ethier's contract. Yep, Melky would devalue Sale in a trade since the Dodgers already have an excess of outfielders. I've said it before, not one team will give up Sale's value and therefore will require at least a three team deal in order to happen. With the cost of FA going up and up, more teams are clinging to their best prospects because they are more cost effective. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) Any team that even wants to get us to talk about Sale is going to have to do a lot of things they otherwise wouldn't be willing to do. I agree which is why the Dodgers would not be in on Sale. Now, Samardzija is a different story. I can see the Dodgers being interested in Samardzija based on him only being a rental that will not cost them any of their prospects they consider to be precious. -
This could turn into a late afternoon/evening start if the weather radar holds up. Lots of rain expected.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) Sale + Melky to Dodgers for 6 prospects of our choice. Melky devalues Sale and the dodgers have made it clear since last season they are not dealing their top prospects.
