  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 09:37 AM) Of course, he has plenty of value. But "our" version of plenty might not be another team's. At the end of 2014, his value was certainly higher than it is now...same with Eaton, Quintana, Samardzija and Abreu. The question is how much the White Sox are willing to "discount" from that established offseason rate. If it's 50 cents on the dollar, that's not going to help much for the future...it will just end up causing rebuilding to take that much longer. The answer is none. You do not discount the likes of Abreu, Sale and Q. You are coming from a perspective of desperation if you are willing to discount any of those three to trade them. Other teams would be desperate to obtain them and not the other way around. While the Sox season does not look good, no desperation move(s) will fix the teams problems in 2015. Just accept it. Talk about panic mode.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) If the Sox can dump Alexei, would anyone else be interested in buying low on Chris Owings? Why not, I think we have tried worse. Owings is supposed to be pretty good defensively. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 09:19 AM) We have Tim Anderson. But Anderson is at Birmingham, needs lots of work on his defense and likely not considered to be ready until 2017. And there's no promise he sticks at SS. His development is not far enough along to count on just yet.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 11:22 PM) And who's going to pay you for 2014 Abreu, one of the top 3-5 hitters in baseball? Unless you have a reason to believe he's going to be "this version" permanently, it's better to deal Quintana (or Sale). Please, Abreu carries plenty of value Caulfield and you know this. It's easy to say trade Sale or Q but what are their values?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) They showed no patience last offseason and that's set us back at least a year, maybe more. Unfortunately I was one of those converts last winter. I went into the off season expecting another rebuild year and drafting more talent but in the end I bought into the idea of FA and hoping that would enough to keep the Sox in contentention. Sadly, FA has not paid off so far. In the end I think the Sox have little choice but to pull some kind of rabbit out of their hat and likely will be a name people will not want to see go. And that's baseball. I was going to comment on the Q thread but didn't want to derail it with Sale. Call me crazy but if the point is maximum return, you trade Sale and keep Q. Q can pass for a #1 in 2016 with Rodon #2. It's quite possible that Montas, Danish and Fulmer need the 2016 season for their development to have them ready for 2017. If it's a 2016 rebuild season there would be no rush for those three at all, just keep them healthy and building up those innings in the minors, hopefully Charlotte. I still prefer to keep Sale, Q and Rodon intact but I admit some talent might have to be traded to fill some holes at 3B, C, SS? 2B?. I think I'd rather trade Abreu than Sale to be honest.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 07:09 PM) very good. the point is, the sox back is up against the wall with no help coming, immediately from the system. the unenviable position the sox have to trade ..... who is the question. If the Sox end up being non-contenders then what's the rush? Too many problems to be fixed during the season for a non-contender. That's why I keep saying, patience.
  6. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 06:52 PM) It's going to be difficult to trade him and get top value for him. How many teams have two top 25 prospects, which is what it takes to begin the talks? Would Addison Russell, Kyle Schwarber and 1-2 other prospects (at least 1 in the top 100) work? Sale's value is so high that the return would be unprecedented which makes it incredibly difficult to assess his true "value". That's why I'm hesitant to speculate because the truth is, I have no idea. His value is on a very high pedistal that I sure as hell cannot see. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 06:55 PM) the value will be determine by what the team trading for, thinks it is worth. And what the Sox think of the proposed return.
  7. I have no problem entertaining the idea of trading Sale but until an actual value can somehow be determined I really do not see the point. I would not know where to begin.
  8. Micah 2-2 R Thompson 1-2 Solo HR
  9. Going into the series we all knew it was going to be difficult with Danks going Friday and Samardzija going Saturday. Samardzija was roughed up in his previous two outings so nobody knew what to expect from him. Then the Sox had Sale in today's so there was hope there, but the offense let them down. Point is, I was not expecting much from this series with or without Robin. Not with the way Danks and Samardzija had been pitching.
  10. Ahem! I'm not saying s*** but check out the Barons game!
  11. RV did not "respect the streak"! Light the torches, its time to storm the FO!
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) o-fer from the 3,4,5 hitters. Not going to win many games that way. I would like to say that Eaton is only part of the offensive problem. The numbers from veterans like Melky, Alexei and LaRoche are hurting this team as well. 3B... yeah, I'll just leave that alone, lol. Oh, lets not forget second base. Unfortunately, Eaton is bringing his bat to the field going by how he's played defense. This team just has a myriad of problems and there are no quick fixes. Going to be interesting to see how many fans will weather the storm for the rest of the season. Could be a rougher ride than it already has. Oh well, what can ya do? I'll be tuning in tomorrow at 6:05.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 01:49 PM) FWIW, the leadoff single off Sale today fell in CF and I was wondering why Eaton was playing that deep. Got to respect leadoff power. I think Eaton might be playing too deep as a result of him getting turned around a few times on balls hit deep this season. To me, Eaton comes across as applying to much pressure on himself as well as over thinking. I could be wrong...
  14. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) He did and I did read the articles (http://m.mlb.com/news/article/130394204/adam-eaton-not-happy-about-not-starting-on-saturday). I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.
  15. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) I strongly disagree with this. Having someone express their disappointment that they're not playing is not childish. Matter of fact, I bet most starters share this feeling. Also take the player we're talking about in consideration. He's a competitor and his work ethic has never been questioned. I'm sure a lot of managers almost expect some sort of conversation to come up from their starters if they get benched. An adult would have asked the coach to talk in private. From the articles I've read, Eaton was pretty animated about not playing yesterday and few of Eaton's comments were childish. Read the articles and the quotes. He acted like a bratt.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 10:05 AM) Fulmer pitching for Vandy tonight too. Thanks for the reminder. Will certainly check that out tonight.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) i don't know if it was meant to be childish more like frustration. the point is, he is not the only not preforming maybe players needs a kick on the back side to wake them up, to shake things up. To me it seems Eaton's frustrations led to his childish act. Just my humble opinion is all.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) I posted this in the Samardzija trade package thread, but thought it was relevant here as well. Let's think, what teams need pitching help. Houston. Toronto. Yankees. Rangers. Pittsburg. Dodgers. Boston (Chris Sale, hahaha jk) Teams that need SS help: San Diego. Pittsburg. Mets. Yankees. If the Sox are out of it, I think we can start thinking of packages with these teams. Looks like you and I are the same page.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) answering the teams needs for help, this can be a good time to sell, and to the highest bidder. Too early yet. For one, teams including the White Sox are still sorting out whether they are buyers or sellers. Two, Samardzija needs to pitch more consistently to boost his trade value and that requires more starts and time. Patience sox fans, nothing needs to be decided yet. For all we know, this team could pull it together over the next month and may want to keep Samardzija for the rest of the season to make a September run at the playoffs.
  20. I understand this is Eaton venting frustration due to his under performing so far but he really needs to take a step back and think about how his childish actions could affect a team already playing poor baseball. If he wants to act like a child then treat him as one. Any time he b****es about a day off, I would sit him the next day until he learned to shut his trap. If he was playing better baseball, there would be no issues. This all comes back to Eaton's poor playing that has put coaches in a difficult position. After all, the TEAM is trying to get back into the race and Eaton's childish actions will not help. Eaton benched himself with poor play and at some point he will need to realise this.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 09:05 AM) don't forget Tor they need both sp and rp. and hou. Yeah, I forgot about Toronto and even the Yanks as possibilities for Samardzija. For some reason I think the Astros will look for pitching elsewhere but I've been wrong plenty of times before.

  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 12:10 AM) http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2015/6/4/87289...-power-rankings Too bad Ramirez has decreasing demand with all the teams currently looking for help there. Trading LaRoche so quickly would be an admission of overreach by the front office. Thanks for posting this. Gets the wheels turning.... If the Sox are unable to get on track, there are some very interesting possibilities for the trade deadline. The Dodgers, Padres and Giants are all likely to check in about Samardzija. Big NLW ballparks are a good fit for Samardzija. Interesting the Nat's could be looking for a 1B. LaRoche? Not sure the Nat's are looking for someone under contract through 2016 but a reunion does not sound too crazy. The Sox could slide Avi to DH and use Shuck or call up one of Coats or Thompson to see what they have to offer at the MLB level. The Mets and Yanks appear to be the teams that could have interest in Alexei. We should have a much better idea where the Sox stand a month from now.
  24. Ejections: Winston-Salem Dash pitcher Jordan Guerrero ejected by HP umpire Chase Eade (4th); Winston-Salem Dash Manager Tim Esmay ejected by HP umpire Chase Eade (4th); Winston-Salem Dash catcher Jeremy Dowdy ejected by HP umpire Chase Eade (4th) Not sure what happened.
  25. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) Yes, because Samardzija is gone after this year anyway (and we can sign him if we want) . Danks is untradeable so no use even mentioning him. Pretty sure Balta has already asked this but, where does the money for Samardzija come from? His salary will go up with his next contract and will be 31 by the time he starts the 2016 season. Not sure sure investing four or five years into a 31 year old pitcher is the best solution. I guess what I'm saying is trading a 26 year old Q and re-signing a 31 year old Samardzija to take Q's place is a significant downgrade.
