  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:39 PM) I know Just trying to keep it loose while the offense is high and dry. I really need my humor to watch this offense, lol.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Atlanta thought so when they fired him. Hire Greg Walker! J/K
  3. Are the Sox likely to bounce back and win the division? No, but this season is definately not over and there are still things worth looking forward to even if the Sox as a team do not rebound. The further development of young guys like Rodon and Avi. Abreu, Sale, Q rebounding from a rough start to the season. Robinson has plugged a huge hole and looks good. Duke is having a nice year. IMO, Eaton will bounce back. Its not just about 2015 but 2016 as well. Some good will come from this season and help next season. Could be player development, rebounding vet or exposing holes ( in progress) that the Sox can address before ST 2016. This season is not lost.
  4. I just fudged my Huggies. I was coming over to ask about Anderson and May. s***. Nice job Adams and Drabek.
  5. Shark s***s the seabed sending shockwaves that sink Sox. http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2012102...ando_a_Stan.jpg
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) Well with Fry getting hurt and at this time, the extent of the injury is unknown. I have been thinking and I was waiting until sunday nite to post this, while waiting to see how everyone else is commenting on their picks. Pitchers, well this is an unknown quality of draft and as it stands I can really be excited about Fulmer. However without him being there, I can be really entice by drafting a positional player. There are 3 that I really happy about, 1. DJ Stewart, 2. Donnie Dewees and my favorite is 3. David Thompson. As a freshman Thompson made a name for himself in D1 baseball, then he got hurt and missed mostly all of his sophmore season. Then last summer he return to the spot lite with his performance in the Cape Cod league, which at that time I started to follow him. In his junior yr, all he did was was tied in the nation as the most hrs in a college this season, Donnie Dewees is #2. the team needs some help at cat, 3b for starters. the under slot can save some money for later players in later rounds. however, i will look at, if fulmer not being there, i would look at 3 prep pitchers, Justin Hooper, Ashe Russell, or Donny Everett. the reason why, the sox does have a little room to develop a prep pitcher. pretty much with what they are doing with Fry. Remember Fry missed a good solid yr with a previous TJ surgery. I like that you're thinking outside the box LDF. It goes against what is currently rumored but if you end up right, you will be a fricken genius around these parts.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Considering how weak college hitters are in this class on a tools basis and adding in the fact that there is no analytics on the new ball I'd rather stay away from college hitters. I hope we go underslot in the first. It doesn't seem like there is going to be any players available who should be valued as an asset with the #8 slot value. There isn't a lot of sign-ability issues and it's against good practice (in theory), but I wouldn't mind it if they did not sign their first pick. It won't happen in this organization but the Sox could fathomably end up with three top 30 slot values in a draft that will offer much more talent. Brady Aiken could be the perfect candidate right here. If Aiken is healthy and signs, the Sox have a good young left hander to work with and if not, the Sox will have the #9 pick (protected) next year in a better draft like you said. I would not low ball Aiken to the point of insult but maybe offer something like 80% slot value. Or is that an insult, lol. I was certainly against the idea when it came up a month or so ago but after hearing more about Fulmer and Harris, Jay and Tate are the only healthy pitchers that interest me. I think you were right when you said I was being a bit short sighted.
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) I think this is a very realistic scenario given that Fulmer is on the board at #8. While I don't have any indubitable evidence to think this is the case, I think there is a possibility the Sox were using Fulmer as a pawn so their scent wouldn't be on Jay. Jay has just happened to pitch so well he might not get out of the top five. Correct me if I am wrong but I think it's just Keith Law, arguably the biggest the MLB Draft pundit, saying the Sox are all over Fulmer and they would take him if he's there. No one else was reporting that but a lot of mocks were really just going off of Law's seemingly certain prediction. That was about two weeks ago and what I was hearing at the time, on good merit in this case, was the Sox absolutely love Jay and he was the guy they covet at #8. Since then, Law has really cooled his tone on the potential Sox-Fulmer marriage and now acknowledges the Sox love Jay. It's conjecture, but I think there's a possibility that Law was manipulated by the Sox. I don't know if you should betting on Fulmer holding up as a starter for 6 years. There is very few scouts who are warm to him being a starter at all. The White Sox were the first team I recall being high on Jay so I think you are definitely on to something. Maybe they were also trying to hide the degree of interest in Harris since they do not expect Jay or Tate to fall to #8 and aren't very high on Fulmer? Funny. When you mention the concerns about Fulmer, the name Juan Cruz comes to mind. Same frame and high effort deliver if I remember Cruz correctly.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:16 AM) Speaking of Jon Harris, I did watch Mo St this weekend and I would love for the Sox to take their #2 guy - Matt Hall - sometime around round 4 or 5 if he is still available. He does offer much in the way of velocity, but is leading DI in K's. He has a pretty devastating CB and is appears to be the consummate "crafty left hander". If the big three SP's are off the board, I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox punt on the pick and draft someone they know they won't sign. With likely a top 15 pick next year coupled with a comp at #9 and a CBA pick around #30, the Sox would have a large draft pool to be creative in structuring how they acquire talent in that draft. Next years draft is supposedly much deeper so I would view that as a viable alternative if they can't get someone they absolutely love. I have not seen Harris pitch, outside of a few scouting videos so I'll have to take you at your word here. The high arm slot is what concerns me but if the Sox feel comfortable with picking him, who am I to judge? I'm still hoping for Happ/Stewart if Jay, Fulmer and Tate are gone. I know, its a pipe dream according to the rumored preferences the Sox have. Nothing wrong with a little day dreaming on a sunny day right.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) another mock https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...draft-6-1-6115/ I think it was Mayo's last mock that also had Fulmer and Harris available at #8 with the Sox taking Harris over Fulmer. Kind of goes against what others are hearing in reference to whom the Sox preferences are. Harris reminds me too much of McCarthy with that high 3/4 slot. Weren't the Sox trying to get McCarthy to change his arm angle due to concerns over the additional stress that high slot induces on the shoulder? And ultimately why he was available for trade? Maybe I'm remembering this wrong... All this nonsense can be avoided if teams just go ahead and pass on Jay so the Sox have get him.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 08:05 AM) Could be a number of things. First, triples are such a low-likelihood event that there's a lot of noise in the data, so whether or not someone hit one in less than two months' time doesn't mean a whole lot. Luck comes into play. May also lacks power, so he's not hitting a lot of wall-bangers. I think you hit it with the lack of power. The only reason I noticed is due to looking at stats for both May and Anderson and noticed Anderson hit his fifth 3B on the season last night and surprisingly May has none. No denying the difference in power between Anderson and May,lol. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) I would just guess it's because he's very rarely pulling the ball down the RF line...against RHP. That's where the majority of triples come from. Higher quality pitching in AA, better fastballs, harder to pull into the corner unless you get some off-speed stuff or are a dead-red FB hitter. Also depends on the RCF alley in Birmingham. Unless the outfielders are way out of position, it's almost impossible to get a triple to RCF at US Cellular to that RCF gap (as opposed to bouncing around down in the corner). Last year, he had 10 triples. I think you and NorthSide are correct. Maybe May is splitting the outfielders enough for the doubles but not able to hit the ball to the wall to get the three bagger. And, I'm probably looking to much into this, lol. I just found it kind of odd so I thought I would ask about it. Thanks for the replies NorthSide, Caulfiled and LDF.
  12. I'm curious about May. How does a guy with enough speed to steal 25 bags (so far), hit 10 doubles and have zero triples? I'm kind of puzzled by that.
  13. Anderson 3-5 3R 2RBI 3B 2K May 3-5 3R RBI SB(25)
  14. Trey Michalczewski 1-1 HR Brett Austin 2-3 R RBI 3B
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) can you imagine a player who has 251 ab's 106 hits 18 hrs 23 sb's 30 walks and 16 strikeouts I don't know man. The Sox have not had luck with those toolsy outfielders. Those really are some gaudy numbers. Where is Dewees projected to go? Have not seen his name in any first round mocks.
  16. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) and you can be extremely right. but the players on the mock draft, the one the so called experts have done. it is now pointing to Daz Cameron. i just don't know. Call me crazy but after Jay, Fullmer and Tate; I think the Sox preference might be a college bat over HS bat. If they cannot draft a college pitcher that is capable of moving through the system quickly as is their reported preference, I think that same line of thinking will shift to a college hitter that could move quickly through the system. Guys like Stewart and Happ. Just a guess or maybe some wishful thinking on my part.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) a player i also really like is dewees in the top 5 in most offensive categories this yr. cf. I remember you mentioning Dewees some weeks ago. Have not looked much into him though. RE BPA: I agree about the BPA. Thing is, what if the Sox view the BPA differently than the mock drafts? This is why I bring up Schwarber. I know the cubs saved money by going under slot but I think the cubs really believed Schwarber was the BPA at #4 last June. At this point it would be hard to argue against it. I'm still hoping for Jay, though ive come to accept he will not be there for the Sox.
  18. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) no i mean i like your thought process but i still like stewart over fulmer but hitter of his kind should be climbing. this leads me to my other player which i haven't mention yet. I follow you. My first preference is pitching which is why I would prefer Jay, Fullmer or Tate, in that order but as others have pointed out, its looking less possible. Who is the other player you have in mind?
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) i can see why you say that. but if the college hitters is not up to par, and stewart had a great yr, then why is he not higher??? i am soo confuse in this draft. I guess my thinking is more along the lines of what the Cubs did with Schwarber last year. I was looking at BA's mock 3.0 from May 25, 2014 and they had the Cubs grabbing Penticost and Schwarber was listed to go 24th to the Pirates. instead, the cubs grabbed Schwarber with the 4th overall pick to which many including myself thought they were crazy. I'm not saying the Sox would have the same success but I'd feel better taking Happ or Stewart over any pitchers not named Jay, Fullmer or Tate.
  20. If the Sox cannot get one of Jay/ Fullmer/ Tate, I hope they go after Stewart or Happ.
  21. The offense scored six runs today without Abreu in the lineup and were on the giving end of a shut out. With Danks going the distance the pen gets two full days of rest before the Sox face a hot Rangers team on Tuesday. The Sox will be throwing Samardzija, Sale and Rodon at the Rangers in the upcoming series. I see no reason to be unhappy.
  22. I can hear Astro fans now saying, ' we were shut out by this guy?' Its nice to be on this side of the fence for once.
