  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 23, 2015 -> 09:55 AM) Didn't we have the discussion about it being a really big jump when Hawkins struggled there last year? Not sure to be honest but the difference is Guerrero is dominating whereas Hawkins was not. I'm not saying the Sox should or should not, just curious if its a realistic possibility.
  2. With Guerrero dominating Kanny, I wonder if the Sox would skip Winston and send Guerrero to Birmingham. Is Winston that big of a jump from Kanny?
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 22, 2015 -> 11:27 PM) Ha - duh. I was looking at the games column as if it was the ab column. No wonder it was confusing. Can I have the daily idiot award please? No idiot award for you because you did not know this... "Smith, also 27, had been working at Double-A for the L.A. organization. Only recently converted from an outfielder to a reliever, Smith has racked up 16 2/3 innings of 1.62 ERA ball with 8.6 K/9 against 4.9 BB/9 this year in Tulsa." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/chicago-white-sox
  4. Hell of an outing for Sale. Up next, Q!
  5. Special thanks to Noesi for making it all possible. Looking forward to sitting down Friday night with a few beers and watch Rodon pitch.
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ May 12, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) in most cases i had a heartburn on the BPA theme, but when the draft is wide open as it is, i believe in drafting for need, it the selection is narrow and what the team has in the stables. Yeah, this draft is just all kinds of confusing. Not sure what I prefer at this point. There's a handful of players I'm very interested in but even if all were available for the Sox at #8, not sure who I would go with. Just finished reading some really good thing about 1B Kyle Martin. I know its not always the best idea drafting a 1B so high and I'm not saying the Sox should but this article on Martin impressed me. Kid has mad leadership skills and a no nonsense kind of guy. Here a link if you're interested... http://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/spor...eason/26312109/ Looked up Dewees. Looks like a solid toolsy player but I'm not so sure about him with the Sox track record on toolsy players.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 12, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) BPA is a myth in relation to the MLB draft. Sure everyone once in a while there is a sure fire guy like Strasburg or Harper that jump out as the best players in their draft, but other than that it is always a weighted argument. The factors that need to be balanced are players floors and ceilings, risk of a player meeting/not meeting their ceiling. Thing there are things like organizational and cultural (style of baseball) fit. Yeah, I guess I should say the perceived best player available. I think the "best player available" term is used because without knowing the seven picks ahead of the Sox, we don't know who the "BPA" will be. But I get what youre saying, no matter what, its a crap shoot so the BPA does not always end up being the BPA.
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ May 12, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) trade a player who they got in fa rt. i do not know. i know it is done, but i still think it is a cheesey thing to do. but you are right, doing that, will get good players in rtn. edit, btw, i was never a fan of that trade, giving up a pitcher with success, for a prospect, and unproven one at that was too much. Yeah, its not the best policy by any means, trading recently signed FA's but it can be done but I would only consider that if the Sox were so bad come July that they decide to blow it all up and start making trades to bring in young talent. It scares me to say that because the Sox could potentially use a busted season as a reason to trade players off to bring in talent to help offset losing their second and third round picks. I hope this is not the case. This season has been so chaotic, I'm not sure what to expect. I guess all we can do is ride it out and see what happens. You've peaked my interest in Dewees. I'm going to read up some more on him.
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ May 12, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) i like it and agree, plus he will get hands on with coop, and the other sp's. it is a win/win situation. Good point, I forgot about the added benefit of working closely with Cooper. Rodon and Cooper seemed to work well together in ST plus, as you said, spending the time with veterans could help too.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ May 12, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) many thanks for your good words. i do not have the answers to everything. but i am looking at the team weakness and their needs. the pitchers that will be available, i thought long and hard, but is it worth getting a pitcher and let the weakness go unanswered? the pen as of now, have some good arms, i am thinking missing a yr or drafting at the lower level for pitchers can be done. a 3b or a cf'er/of'er who can hit, and is in college can be the pick of choice. many thanks One thing the Sox can do is take the BPA in June. If the Sox are out of contention in July, they can make a few trades using their major/minor league players to address the organizations weaknesses and hopefully bring back talent that could possibly help in the near future. Of course there are a few major league players that need to increase their value first. My two biggest concerns are C and 3B. 3B is especially frustrating because I absolutely loved the Davidson acquisition and was telling the wife all about it the day it happened. She was laughing at me for being so giddy. Oops, that one has not turned out so well. Though I still cling to hope.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ May 11, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) Ok for starters, there were quite a few players who got hurt in the beginning of the season or during. Of those I am going to mention that some may not have realize or known about. 1. Tyler Stephenson – cat – prep – came back early most already know of him. 2. Jake Lemoine – sp – college – hurt his should was ranked #9 coming into the season, still no surgery, no further info., 3. Kendall Rogers – sp – college – acl injury. Rtn unknown. 4. Kep Brown – of – prep. Predicted if all went well, should have made the 1 round. A better version of Chris Shaw. Another name that was an exciting prep player just removed his name for the mlb draft. This player is Kyler Murray – ss – predicted to be a 1 rounder. He is predicted to be a 1 rounder in football…. Multi talented player. Now, another thing that is being discussed, the wild card, UNDER SLOT agreements with the players, as of thursday their was talked of just Arz and their #1 pick. But there is discussion that Hou and Col are thinking the same. This is going to throw a huge monkey wrench into the mechanism. So I see, if true, most of the mock draft up to now as being nothing but good reading. Arz – either .T. Stephenson – cat – prep or G. Whitley – of – prep, tough choice Hou – they need infielder - Dansby Swanson – ss – college Cou - I thought Brendan Rodgers – ss – prep, but now I don’t know if it a prep SP Tex – if Rodgers is there is not, D. Tate – sp – college Hou – here I s the underslot deal, so who will it be, Cameron, Tucker – preston brother, hou outfielder, or Chris Bettis, cat- prep, surprise name here . Minny – who in hades know. No word out of their camp. A college SP or Of . Bos. – either Bergman - ss or Buehler – sp – both college. Sox - under slot. pick Donnie Dewees - of - college, tied for the ncaa in homers, walks and hits, plus among the top for sb. Now the sox at 8, I was really thinking outside the box here. I looked at the needs of the team. So I had several options. SP - Jake Lemoine, but since this morning and no surgery, forget about it. Next I am leaning on: Donnie Dewees – of – college. He is arguable the best hitter in college this yr, supplanting Happ and others. He is in the top 2 or 3 in most offensive categories, can play most any OF positions but he is a CF’er. David Thompson – 3b – college, got hurt, missed his soph yr, came out last cape and was in the tops in hits and hrs. this yr, continued hitting homers and is good at defense. hard to choice http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/strong-spri...top-few-rounds/ http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1 http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/321 http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/483 http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/200 Whoaa! Your research is impressive and love how your thinking outside the box. Don't know how I can contribute since you know more about these kids than myself. You just exposed me LDF. With the Sox losing both second and third round picks, going way under slot to have more money later is not a bad strategy. Personally, depending on who's left after the first seven picks, I'd like to see a college pitcher picked in hopes that pitcher can get rise through the system quicker and maybe see him sometime in 2017, or sooner? I see both sides of the coin. I think spreading the money out is a good plan for a team that is rebuilding but if a team is looking to contend or be close to it, the BPA is the better choice in my humble opinion. Who knows, maybe Dewees ends up a Schwarber type pick for the Sox.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ May 12, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) it is going to be interesting reading for you. It is,lol. I'm laughing because us baseball fans always have great ideas. I know I have thrown ideas out there that left even me scratching my ass after thinking more about it. Us baseball fans are funny little creatures arent we?
  13. Sox are 12-17 Danks has sucked outside of his last start, which was impressive. Noesi continuously fudges his already soiled Huggies. Rodon had an impressive debut Saturday. So thow does sending Rodon to Charlotte help the Sox or Rodon? Another question is what kind of message does that send to Rodon? Noesi has lost his job and deservingly so. The Rodon era has begun so let's just try and enjoy.
  14. Sale bounces back, Fiers gets lit up and the Sox win in a blow out.
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 12, 2015 -> 01:17 AM) You're using what that guy said? I remember him, he didn't make much sense with his posts lol Yeah, he kind of generalized that all Sox fans liked the idea and I just wanted to show it was not the case. I understand with him being a new member he likely was not around last November when the thread began. I'm going to reread it some more later for s***s and giggles.lol
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 12, 2015 -> 12:35 AM) Others were in favor... Absolutely raBBit and at the time there really was no right or wrong, just opinions or preferences. Now, in hindsight, does not look like such a smart move. At least for the time being. I only posted the link because a comment was made ( no offense to the poster) about how everyone wanted Samardzija which was not the case.
  17. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...93812&st=30 I just read the first 5-6 pages or so to help jog the memory( getting tired) but there were a few board members that did not like the idea of trading for Shark, a month before it happened.
  18. Encouraging outing from Drabek 5ip 1H 1BB 5K 9/1 GO/FO
  19. QUOTE (shysocks @ May 11, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 4m4 minutes ago Noesi feeling better. Has been told to be ready out of bullpen tonight. Seems relevant to Rodon somehow... I think you're right. Didnt Robin say some time over ST that a rotation of four lefties was possible?
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ May 11, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) a day of boredom. so here i am, bored, drinking my coffee, btw.... Louisiana has this great coffee. and i am going to make my own top 8 mock draft. pls feel free to tell me i am full of crap of what ever. i am listing to pink floyd radio and noting it going to hurt me. Morning coffee with Floyd, that's awesome LDF. Looking forward to seeing your mock.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2015 -> 02:27 AM) I think Reds and Tigers fans might have joined you last night. Or Bulls' fans. I think you're right Caulfield.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ May 11, 2015 -> 04:47 AM) I mean shame on bands for wanting to get paid for their music and not just let anyone share it for free online. I was sad when my Napster account got suspended back in college because of all of it but understood. Didn't know people still held a grudge about it though. An even bigger shame when multi millionaires complain about money. I admit I hold a grudge with Metallica over it but the truth is I can't stand anything they made after the And Justice album so for me, Napster was the cherry on the crap cake. Not a fan of the Bob Rock influence either. Plus, Ive been a huge Megadeth fan for longer than I can remember. Greg. Did you take any pictures at the show? Would love to see them if you did. Oh yeah, I agree, Gwen is still one sexy lady!
  23. Just reread my post. Would like to clarify, keep Danks in the rotation and move Noesi to the pen with Rodon taking Noesi's spot in the rotation. Apologies, had a few beers this evening.
  24. This season has been so chaotic, there's no rhyme or reason so f*** it, start Rodon and let it sort itself out. Tired of Danks and Noesi. One of them has to go. In ST I would not have thought this but for now, keep Danks in the rotation ( god help me for even saying it), slide Rodon into his place and put Noesi in pen. If Noesi is suitable.
  25. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 11, 2015 -> 12:20 AM) Srsly. If you really want him, you can't insult him with your opening bid. Look what the Red Sox did to Lester -- and he;s worth maybe half what Beckham would command on the open market right now. Nice! Apologize for being off topic but how has Mr.Wite been? Seriously, I miss his insightful posts. As for Beckham. Really? I like him in his current role but as a starter, come on.
