QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) i really your yous guys enthusiasm in predicting the season. it really warms my heart in seeing this, i am totally afraid to fall flat on my face and jinks the team sox in 15. IMHO, there's no reason not to be enthusiastic. The Sox recognized the many holes on the team and addressed a majority of them. They still have some question marks but overall I think Hahn nailed it so far this winter and gave fans lots of hope and even more to talk about. Plus, they should have some wiggle room in the payroll if they need to make a trade or two at the deadline. CaliSoxFan and I were discussing earlier in the off season about how this was the year to get free agents since they had plenty of money to spend, the Sox 1st pick is protected and there were free agents available (Melky, Robertson, LaRoche, Duke) that could fill holes and that's exactly what the Sox did. Everything was in alignment for a big winter and I could not be happier with what Hahn and co have accomplished so far. Man, I cannot wait til ST! Go Sox!

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) Plus Duke, healthy Avi, etc. Absurd is more like it. I don't think that's extreme in any way. Just a lot of pessimism here. Agreed with both statements. I really believe the Sox can win 85/86 games as is but if Noesi continues to improve and Danks can get closer to his old self, I think 88-90 wins is very obtainable barring major injuries.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) They've also referenced Montas and Beck as options who will be looked at early...along with Erik Johnson if he shows signs of rebounding. As for the potential of the Sox, Fangraphs' 77 win prediction (and 84 for the Cubs) better be reversed in reality or we're all going to end up disappointed in the end. Nevertheless, another 7 game improvement would be a big improvement. It's just that the bar has been set a lot higher to "playoff expectations," which is undoubtedly a good thing for the fans. The fangaphs prediction of 77 wins sounds like it came straight from the north side, lol. Come on now. The four biggest acquisitions of Robertson, Melky, LaRoche and Samardzija only account for a 4 win improvement over 014? That's pretty harsh IMHO.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 08:02 PM) March sounds right but I'm in Florida so I dont know when the northern states started their season. We always had our first game/tournament during Spring Break. That sounds about right since I remember it was still pretty chilly when the HS season began. Thanks Zen.
-
The 2015 draft hype will get rolling in mid February when the college season begins. I'm looking forward to it myself. Anyone know when the HS season begins? March? I've been out of HS for too long to remember.

I like the move and in all fairness to Raines, he didn't have as many athletic players to work with that Coleman will have so even if the Sox improve on the basepaths it should not take anything away from Raines. Coleman would not have done any better with the likes of Paulie, Dunn, AJ etc. Those guys were like snails drag racing through molasses.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) this has always been a action reaction situation between the fans of the northside and the sox loyals. this kind of remind me of all the stuff that use to happen before they really started the cross town games, and have the org play nice with each others. i love it. best, way to make them eat their words. make the playoff and more. I know what you mean. I've talked loads of s*** to cub fans through the years myself but that's a fan thing. As far what anyone in the cubs FO thinks about the Sox, I could care less. They have their own problems. I also think the media over blows it juuuuuust a bit to get the fans worked up. The butthurt comments from cub fans about what Samardzija said was entertaining. I think Jeff's comment was his inner Sox fan coming out and the comments from cub fans showed their bitterness over him being on the south side now. Ya know that's gotta sting!

New MLB Commish suggests ban on shifts
BlackSox13 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) Dumbest thing i've read today.... Make that two of us. I know it was just a suggestion and an extremely dumb one at that but what is Manfred thinking? Shifts are a part of baseball's strategy. WTF!?! -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 07:51 AM) He was in the bullpen. It was the same tyoe of comment Ricketts made. It is amazing so many people on both sides were so up in arms. Exactly Dick. As a Sox fan, why should I care what Ricketts or anyone else affiliated with the cub organization thinks? My focus is on the 2015 White Sox and that's it. Let the cubs people say what they want, means nothing to me.

Rodon *NOT* to "probably" begin Sox career in pen
BlackSox13 replied to Andy the Clown's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 05:47 PM) No, different girl. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) No, that was Keely Warren or something like that. This new girl is from Indiana is is/was a Cubs fan. Ahh, that's right. I think Keely is better looking but maybe its because of the cheerleader pics I've seen of her. So Carlos went front a Sox fan to a is/was cub fan, huh? Should make for some interesting conversations between the two. -
Rodon *NOT* to "probably" begin Sox career in pen

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/558385047687163905 Good. Because he's a starter. Nice girlfriend. http://instagram.com/p/yK5tLKNBk3/ I hope they keep Rodon as a starter too. Keep him stretched out and if he's needed, he's just a callup away. Is that the girl he broke up with after signing? -
Gotta like it. A healthy Crain would be one heck of a set up guy for Robertson. Hahn and co are getting it done this winter. Lots to be excited about.
-
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) I don't understand why they'd go after him, but a Minor League deal is very low risk. It's worth a shot. Likely due to Soto being a right handed veteran bat that can take over if Flowers misses time or regresses. I like the signing.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 02:22 AM) That's like asking if I could go to heaven but still be an asshole would I ? Duh ! But Danks isn't going anywhere . Don't know how I missed this post but good one. I love a good laugh, we'll done!
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 12:13 AM) Yes. Only if BOTH those conditions are true. Exactly my thoughts as well. Having both would make no sense to me at all.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Stras's agent has nothing to do with why that won't happen. I understand that Strasburg would take a haul the Sox would be unwilling to pay but I'm thinking with Boras as his agent, an extension would likely be out of the question.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) So the sidebar to this is that the Nationals have let it be known that they plan on trading Strasburg, NOT Zimmerman Its too bad Strasburg's agent is you know who. Would love to see a Sox rotation of Sale, Shark, Q, Strasburg and Rodon. Nothing wrong with five front line starters in the rotation. Oh well, one can dream right?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) No one has seemed to mention how terrible Fowler has graded out as a defender. Ha ha, good point. Should be interesting to see how Fowler plays defensively on those hot summer days with the winds coming off the lake. I guess this trade makes sense for both teams. Astros clear Fowlers salary and the cubs clear space for Bryant. Straily, not sure what to think but he could turn into a decent arm for the Astros pen. Even still, for one year of Fowler (FA after 2015), I'm really not sure what the cubs are thinking. Something to give cub fans hope?
-
Balta sums it up best with " we have no idea". Its difficult to have expectations when there's no clue what to expect. The only thing to do is hold onto hope that he can rebound back to what he was in 2013. Johnson has to be one of the biggest wild cards in the Sox system.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) Are you kidding? Amaro is ready to sign him to a 5 year 100 million dollar contract Oh, then John shouldn't be a hard sell at all since won't cost as much as Jordan.
-
Let's get Amaro Jr drunk and then inform him that Jordan and John are a package deal. Good luck to Jordan.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 02:33 AM) It didn't have a writer attached to it Oh OK. Just a wild guess on my part. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 05:48 AM) If Jose Abreu said that about the Sox, this board would be giddy. What is the kid supposed to say? While the cubs have had a nice off season, they have not even come close to making the moves the Sox have this off season so Sox fans being giddy would be justifiable if Abreu said that. I don't have a problem with Rizzo saying what he said, just feel its a little premature given the cubs roster and teams in their division. Lester does not make the cubs a contender, though he certainly helps push them in the right direction.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) I actually got a BREAKING NEWS alert from The Score this morning to tell me Rizzo's quote on making the playoffs. I'm not even kidding. Bruce Levine?
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) If I recall something like mid season. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) Yes. He was on with Rongey a week or two ago. He's been rehabbing in Cincinnati and said around the All Star Break. Thanks guys. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Nice to see Sox getting guys signed early. Yeah, the Sox aren't playing around this off season.

Happy to hear Nate will be back but when is he expected to be ready?
