The White Sox and right-hander Hector Noesi agreed to a one-year, $1.95MM deal to avoid arbitration, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman tweets. Noesi was projected to earn $1.95MM. Noesi pitched 166 of his 172 1/3 innings in 2014 with Chicago, posting a 4.39 ERA in 28 games (27 of them starts) for the Pale Hose. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/chicago-white-sox IMO, money well spent.

Maybe Anderson is brought back as the Sox lucky rabbit's foot for the 2015 season? -

Ruh roh, Houston may have a problem... "5:18pm: Drellich also adds that the biggest concerns heading into Gattis’ physical are his back and right knee, and the concern is fairly significant. While Drellich’s previous report that we may not yet know the identity of all players in the deal created a wide range of speculation, he now adds that B.J. Upton is not in the deal. Astros righty Vincent Velasquez was discussed, however Drellich notes that Velasquez has his own health issues " http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/01/astr...van-gattis.html Sounds like the deal is on hold until the results of Gattis' physical are known. Also notes that the Rangers could come into play if the Astros deal falls through. -

Gattis is now an Astro. "The Astros have reportedly agreed to acquire Braves catcher/outfielder Evan Gattis. In return, Atlanta will acquire a trio of prospects: righties Michael Foltynewicz and Andrew Thurman as well as third baseman Rio Ruiz." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/01/astr...van-gattis.html Houston is having a nice off season so far. They just might put the Rangers in the ALW cellar this year. -
While he didn't live up to expectations, he never made excuses and handled his shortcomings very well and I respect him for that. I wish him well in retirement.

QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) I'm guessing that they'll be working on an extension evaluating, until trade deadline. If the sox are not in contention at trade deadline the sox will move him then. We will get some prospects back from the team that picks him up. Agreed but the problem is that the Sox will not get the return that it took to acquire Samardzija in the first place. The other possibility is a comp pick from the team that signs him in FA if the Sox hold onto him and that would give the Sox the first shot at signing him in FA but it will undoubtedly be a costly shot. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Why the hell would you trade prospects for a rental? If the SOX traded for this guy for a year, they are dumber than I thought. This is the reason I was not a fan of the idea in the first place. I do, however, appreciate the Sox changing their strategy on one year rentals in an effort to win in 2015. I guess all we can do is trust that Hahn and the Sox know what they are doing.

Lopez signs with Arizona. "Cuban righthander Yoan Lopez has agreed to sign with the Diamondbacks for $8.25 million." http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...an-lopez-signs/

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 07:13 AM) He's going to free agency. Sums it up for me. This is why I preferred the Sox went after Eovaldi, but it is what it is. If Shields ends up getting a 5-6 year deal at 100M+, it scares me to think what Samardzija will get next year at age 30. FA 2015-16 is Jeff's only shot at maximizing a big contract and he's made it pretty clear that he will do so. Nevertheless he is a White Sox pitcher and I will be cheering for him, just not going to count on him being around beyond 2015.

No surprise really. I still hold onto hope that he is eventually traded.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) i wonder if he comes out hitting and hitting well, will the sox take him north or let him continue to grow in the minors for 1 yr. Barring a ST injury to Gillaspie I think Davidson starts at Charlotte no matter what. If Davidson hits well at Charlotte and Gillaspie struggles, things become very interesting. -

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) that is the nicest way of saying that. good job. Thank you sir. I'm trying to look at it as Davidson hit a wall and now its time for him to get back up, dust himself off and get back it. One bad minor league season for a 23 yo does not mean the end of the world, just more work needs to be done is all. Hopefully he sees 2014 as motivation for 2015. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) The one thing in the back of my mind is that the demotion is supposedly what started the confidence crisis. If true, then that's Davidson's fault since the Sox never said otherwise. Hopefully Davidson will see the setback as an opportunity to mentally grow and move on from 2014. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 09:34 AM) f*** all of you guys, go back to where you came from. A lesson in green = sarcasm Oh sure, tell em' to use green text and take the fun out of sarcasm.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) I just think the Sox will want to give Davidson a few months in AAA no matter what. Matt has fully admitted his confidence was pretty much shot last year, so throwing him into the major league fire from the get-go next year seems like a recipe for disaster IMO. I'll be honest, I'm pretty low on Davidson at the moment, but I'd rather see him regain his confidence and show some actual results before I give him a major league role. Spring training simply isn't enough for me. I think you hit the nail on the head with this post. The best thing for Davidson would be a ST invite to work with Steverson some more and then go to Charlotte to start the season. Hopefully he can rebuild his confidence and be ready if/when the Sox need him. Good thing is he is plenty young enough to turn it around so there's still hope. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 12:25 AM) Little b**** boy eh? Admin? Don't worry. He's my hommie. Thanks, lvjeremylv. Thanks, hi8is. Don't hold back, say what's on your mind hi8is. Thanks for the laugh, goes well with my morning coffee. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) LOL . That is the motto of the University of Cambridge . The 2nd oldest University in the english speaking world , behind only Oxford. It's latin and it basically means "From this place, we gain enlightenment and precious knowledge ." My attempt at humor that no one would understand unless they put some effort into it ,since you said "we have a few English scholars that have clearly studied at Oxford". I admit, I had to Google it but I did take the time to do so and agree with the sentiment. Your attempt at humor worked since I laughed when I read your post so well done. Hopefully others will appreciate the humor and lighten up a bit. If not, f*** em'. Lol.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 12:01 AM) You, a "global moderator" are supporting a thread or useless drivel that is nothing short of a snide condescension. I do not approve of your sentiment. Thanks, Quinarvy. Thanks, hi8is. Wait. Are you trying to say that the posts in this thread are not serious in nature? You mean people aren't really thankful? This give me great pain in the pit of my stomach. Think I'll have a poop. BRB... Thanks StR.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 02:42 AM) From Wiki: A common English usage misconception is that a paragraph has three to five sentences; single-word paragraphs can be seen in some professional writing, and journalists often use single-sentence paragraphs. Well, apparently we have a few English scholars that have clearly studied at Oxford so what does wiki know? From now on all posters must speak in proper queens English, mkaay! Thanks Sox talk, thanks Hi8is, thanks CaliSoxFanViaSWSide, thanks StR.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 10, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) and then they will spin it to being the curse, or the loveable losers doing it again. i can't believe how 1 team made loosing as a slogan, loveable looser. i know i mention this before. Let's not forget about Steve Bartman. With the cubs, there's always an excuse.
-
No surprise by the cubs predictions since they have always been media darlings anyway. Besides, I like the idea of getting their fans hopes up just to have those hopes come crashing down. I give them credit for taking many steps in the right direction but until those youngsters show they can produce at the big league level, they have their hands full with teams like St.Louis, Milwaukee, Pitt and even Cinci. Cubs still need a better rotation too. As for the Tiger, I think their reign is over. IMO, the Sox or Indians win the ALC in 2015.
-
QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 12:57 AM) You guys are crazy if you wouldn't play for the cubs. I know we all hate them, but you'd still be living in Chicago surrounded by family and friends who can attend whenever they want even if it's on the wrong side of town. Unless you're from out of town. That would make sense. So you drop by and let people know they are crazy and do not even post what teams you would and would not play for? Riiiiiiiight....

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) Play for: 1) White Sox 2) Dodgers 3) Giants Never play for: 1) Cubs 2) Yankees 3) Detroit

Teams I would love to play for... 1- White Sox- no explanation necessary 2- Rockies- love the ball park, the scenery and Colorado is eventually where the lady and I are moving to. 3- Diamondbacks- again; love the ball park, the weather, my step son is down there and the big unit. Teams I would never play for ... 1- Cubs- I could go on and on.... 2- Yankees- clean cut is not my style, no desire to live in NY or the east coast. 3- Tigers- I can sum up Detroit in one word - s***hole. Had a hard time deciding between the Red Sux and Tigers but went with the division rival.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) i don't, or else they would have done so. Thing is, there are still better options available than Viciedo. Once team like Boston, LA and SD trade away some excess OF talent I think a small window will open up to trade Viciedo. Then again, it could be wishful thinking on my part. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) Maybe you're both right, but needs change when players get hurt in ST. I'm saying there's a chance. If he looks horrid in ST, the 3.7Million will likely be salvaged. If he looks good, could help tradeability. I think the "D-day" is somewhere around St. Patty's, March 17. We may be drinking to Tank's departure. If this happens, St.Patrick will be surely pissed if Viciedo steals his thunder.
