QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 12:04 AM) Apparently, Dodgers are about to sign McCarthy. What is their payroll gonna be when all of this is said and done? They're paying Haren and Dee Gordon to play for Miami, just added Howie Kendrick's 9.5 million and are signing McCarthy. Still haven't moved any of those outfielders and the stumbling block seems to be that the other teams are expecting them to thrown in more money. I wonder what it would cost to get Ethier, cash only, no players. Not sure what their payroll will be but last I read they were trying to get under 190M to avoid luxury taxes. They are adding payroll faster than they are shedding it, that's for sure. I think Ethier and possibly Crawford end up put out there for the taking. Pretty much what Toronto did with Rios. Dodgers just might end up asking for nothing in return although they might still have to kick in money to be rid of the contracts.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 11:12 PM) Per Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers are flipping Andrew Heaney to the Angels. Lol. ...For Howie Hendrick. No, the Dodgers are flipping Heaney to the Angels so the Dodgers can trade for Danks. I gotta say that despite their ages, Rollins and Kendrick as the middle infielders is pretty damn good both defensively and offensively.

2014-2015 MLB off season player movement and rumors thread

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) Zimmermann, Strasburg or Harper? Can't be someone like Ian Desmond. Desmond's name has been rumored but I'd guess Zimmermann is the player that was speculated on. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:07 PM) They added Walden A great book for a book lovers collection. Really like that Thoreau fella, though I'm not sure what he or his book have to do with baseball. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) Between the Cubs and Royals, every WS until 2020 is spoken for. Don't let Hahn know or he might stop assembling a potential contender. Are the cubs and royals going to switch off year to year as world series winners?

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) Would you really even want Revere? Sub .700 OPS and despite his speed he's actually pretty bad in the field. Constantly takes horrible angles and has no arm. I'm not saying he'd be horrible, but I hope Hahn is aiming higher than Revere if he's trading for a LF. I admit that I'm unaware of his defense. If he's that bad defensively then I'd have to say forget it. I'm just thinking about his lead off potential with Eaton batting second behind him since Eaton has a better eye for drawing walks while Revere is a slap hitter. Like you, I hope that Hahn is aiming higher. Was just trying to think of possibilities that have not been mentioned yet. I would prefer a LHB with pop for an outfielder.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) I'd love to add Dickerson. Home/Road splits really don't matter to me in this case. I hope Hahn is in on him. I'm with ya. Would love to add Dickerson to the Sox lineup. Abreu, LaRoche, Avi, Dickerson as the 3-6 in the lineup sounds badass. Not sure why the Rockies would trade him though. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:51 PM) I'd give up Anderson + for him. I'm a big fan of Anderson but I would not hesitate to build a package around him for Dickerson.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) From the sounds of the reporting the third team would be taking Haren from the marlins. So unless you want Haren, don't hope for the Sox to be involved. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 08:39 PM) Haren was part of the dee gordon trade. Rollins is Philly and dodgers with supposed 3rd team involved. Yep, the LA / Phillies trade is what I was wondering about. If the Sox are looking for athleticism/speed then Revere would be a nice grab, if he's even available.
-
Curious about who the third team is. I wonder if the Sox are involved somehow for Revere or Brown.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) Athletics nation is hilarious. In their opinion semien is an above avg ss for the next decade, phegley is a promising "mlb ready catcher" (lol ok he is literally the definition of aaaa) and bassitt and ravelo will contribute with long mlb careers. Get real guys it was a very avg haul with Semien keying the deal. Them talking about phegley is especially lol worthy. Come on man. Haha! A's fans are talking long term when their GM is known to trade players as they are going into their arbitration years. Its possible that two or three of the traded players will have long careers, just not in an A's uniform, lol. -
If the Sox are indeed at their payroll limit for 2015, I guess we can forget about the likes of Kemp, Crawford, Ethier and CarGo unless Danks and his salary are moved in a trade. Sucks having about 21M wrapped up in Danks/ Viciedo. That money could easily net the Sox a LF and a reliever. Oh well, in Hahn we trust.

QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) I have a bad feeling Price winds up in LA after this year wearing the blue and white. No chance because the Chicago media will annoit Price as the next big name the cubs will sign.

White Sox and Volquez have mutual interest
BlackSox13 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) The last one also won't happen since Liriano just signed a 3 year deal with Pittsburgh. Also, what was the deal with McCarthy? I know they traded him for Danks, but that seemed to be because BMac was overvalued and Danks undervalued. Was there some kind of specific problem with BMac? If I remember right the Sox did not like McCarthy's over the top arm angle and Brandon would not change it. Wasn't long after that he was traded to Texas. -

Volquez is supposed to be looking for a 2/20 contract. I would not be opposed to that in the least bit. Would be great to sign Volquez and trade Danks/ Viciedo. Would open up about 9M for the Sox to spend elsewhere. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 01:04 AM) Higher annual amount per year with the Cubs, as well as the non-California income tax factor. Ahh, I had not considered the California tax. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 01:05 AM) Lester will make about $26M per year, otherwise known as more than the combined 2015 contracts of Samardzija ($10M), Sale ($6M), and Abreu ($8.7M). And somewhere there's a cub fan that would try to sell you the idea that its better to have Lester than Samardzija, Sale and Abreu.
-
If Seattle wants Viciedo then let them have him. I'd happily take Ackley or Maurer.
-
Not sure how the Sox can pull off Longoria but Myers I can believe. Though I would prefer a LH bat for the OF I would take Myers in heartbeat. I'm very curious as to what Myers would cost.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 01:08 AM) I wonder what kind of contract Shields will get. We all know Scherzer will get similar, if not more, money than Lester. The most recent rumors say Scherzer is looking for a 200M deal. I think Scherzer comes in at 30M annually, Lester at 25-26M annually, Shields should get around 20M annually. I'd guess Samardzija comes in around 18-22M annully

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 12:41 AM) Ethier/Kemp/Crawford/Van Slyke Rasmus Morse (that would be the equivalent of Viciedo, or worse) Aoki Melky Cabrera Jay Bruce Alex Rios (haha) Snider/Lambo Parra Carlos Gonzalez/Dickerson/Blackmon Id take one of Blackmon, Snider, Lambo, Snider, Crawford, VanSlyke or Melky.
-
Interesting how Lester signed for less money from the cubs and passed on more money from the world series champion Giants. I suppose Theo and Lester are pretty tight after all.
-
Haha, no s***, a 20M overpay! One way to look at it is Lester is out of the AL now. I say good for the cubs and their fans.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 06:48 PM) Is Gordon incapable of playing SS or do the Dodgers just not like him? Seems like he would be obvious to step right in for Hanley. He's capable of playing SS but it looks like second is his best position. Depending on the Dodgers asking price, I would take Gordon in a heartbeat. I love the idea of Gordon leading off with Eaton batting second ahead of Abreu and co.
-
This will be an interesting move for Hahn to pull off. He could try trading a few more prospects for a young, cost controlled OF or take on a higher salary OF like Ethier but insist Danks is part of the trade somehow. Either way, it could be tricky.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 07:24 PM) I think Sanchez gets a little underrated. Not saying he's going to be great or anything but I can see him hitting something like .270/.330/.380, which will be fine if he plays a + 2B. Agreed. Sanchez is only 22 years old and by some, is already written off as a super sub back up type. I think Sanchez's game is better than its given credit for. Personally, I like Sanchez's overall game better than Johnson's and I'm hoping its Sanchez playing second everyday for the Sox.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) LF is next. See how the young guys play out at 2nd. Or Alexei for Gordon. I would prefer having Alexei and Gordon but Gordon was a SS before the Dodgers found a spot for him to play at second base so a trade based around an Alexei for Gordon could make some sense. Maybe something like Ethier and Gordon for Danks and Johnson?

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 04:42 PM) How bout this guy? Haha, I just started a new topic about him. Good call!
