  1. Just read that the Dodgers are open to trading Dee Gordon. Anyone think the Sox have what it takes to get him? I would imagine the Dodgers would want Johnson in return so I wonder what else the Sox would have to send with Johnson in a deal. Gordon and Eaton setting the table ahead of Abreu and LaRoche sounds awesome.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) Hope Jeff signs long term this summer. I'd be surprised if Samardzija wasn't already extended before ST started. I think he's waiting for Scherzer and Lester to sign since their contracts will raise the pay scale for starting pitchers. Just my opinion but I have little doubt about Samardzija signing an extension. I know if I were Samardzija I would be extatic about being sandwiched between Sale and Q in the starting rotation.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) I think Sanchez starts out the year locked in at second and Johnson has time to get more polished in AAA. I'm thinking the same thing. Let Johnson and Leury play 2B/SS at Charlotte to start the season in 2016. If the Sox need them they are only a phone call away. Let Saladino be the backup to Gillaspie, Alexei and Sanchez.
  4. Samardzija was not my first choice by any means but seeing what the Sox gave up to get him, I'm pretty happy. I'm kinda sad to see Bassitt and Ravelo a part of the trade but at least the Sox still have Anderson, Montas and Danish. Also love the idea of having four starters ( Sale, Q, Zamardzija, Danks) that can pitch 200+ innings in a season and if Noesi continues his progress he could pitch 200 innings as well in 2015. Most impressive off season so far by Hahn and his staff.
  5. Wow, first the news of Robertson, now Shark AND the Sox did not have to give up Anderson,Montas, Danish, Hawkins or Ravelo! Well done Hahn.
  6. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:33 PM) got my fingers crossed for all of this to happen Its definitely in the rhealm of possibility. Reddick in RF, Shark in the #2/#3 spot in the rotation with Robertson closing games would make some Sox fans very happy.
  7. Would not be surprised if Reddick is part of a proposed deal. Reddick and Shark's 2015 salaries would still allow the Sox enough money to go after Robertson to save games on t south side. Plus Reddick would shift Avi over to LF. Reddick is an upgrade over Avi in RF and Avi is an upgrade over Tank in LF, win win.
  8. Come on Hahn, before the poop talking starts. Starting to feel a bit constipated ...
  9. This is not the kind of news I expected to kick off the winter meetings. I say let KW interview. If he's interested in other opportunities then let him explore them.
  10. QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 02:06 AM) Viciedo might be more in a trade if he is signed for the year. Depending on what he is signed for, yes. 20+ HR power has to be worth something. Thing is, Melky, Victorino, Nava, Crawford, Ethier, Kemp, Snider, Lambo, Reddick and some others are all better options and available if the rumors are true. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/mari...ky-cabrera.html Mariners going after Melky. I would really like to see him in a Sox uniform. Me too but only willing to go so far. I'm not a fan of going five years with Melky. If another team wants to give him five years then I wish him well with his new team.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 07:41 PM) KW philosphy is Hahns philosophy. Remember KWwanted to start the tear down 1 year earlier but JR wanted to try it for one more year with the veteran team. KW agreed with the change in the team direction. He always said there was a time when it was going to need to happen. I ask this honestly and not with sarcasm but was the idea of " rebuilding on the fly" a few years ago KW's idea or was he just going with JR's plan? The "rebuild on the fly" stuff KW used to speak of sounds like the time frame you describe JR wanting to give it one more go.
  12. Between FA and trades, there are better outfield options available so its probably going to be a bit before Viciedo will be traded. For some crazy reason I do think a team will offer the Sox something and the Sox take it. Just a guess.
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 11:47 PM) LaRoche isn't a platoon player. LaRoche just hit .204 against left handers and .280 against right handers. He just does not hit lefties good and the team would be better off with a right handed batter that can hit lefties.
  14. Rosario would make a platoon partner with LaRoche and maybe back up Flowers.
  15. Any guesses as to what the Sox would have to give up for Dickerson? Dickerson's numbers and five more years of team control will cost a pretty big haul.
  16. If the Sox are going to give up the talent being discussed, then use it on a guy like Eovaldi. He easily has the stuff to be a #3 and has not turned 25 yet. Would like to see what Coop can do with him. He doesn't walk a lot of batters and had Salty for a catcher, so Eovaldi deserves some slack. I mean, Salty suuuuucked last season. As for Samardzija, I think Boston outbids the White Sox. Boston has more to offer in a trade and is much more desperate for pitching.
  17. In the event of an Alexei trade, the Sox end up with Sanchez at SS and Semien at second while Leury Mays Hayes goes to Charlotte to work on the hitting skills . IMO, the Sox are shopping Semien with plans of Johnson taking over at second, Sanchez at SS and Diaz or possibly Saladino as the IF back up which gives the Sox a choice between LH and RH bats. That's assuming Alexei is traded, who the hell knows if that happens or not. I'm not against trading Alexei but that really is a double edged sword right there. If were talking about a team finishing off a rebuild and looking for a few more good prospects then trading Alexei is a great idea but if a team is planning on contending then they really should keep Alexei.
  18. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) You an me both. I can't see how this would help us in the least. Cespedes isn't much better than Tank IMO I think/hope its just speculation since the Sox are in need of an outfielder too. If there's an outfielder in the package I'd rather it was Reddick.
  19. I hope the Cespedes to White Sox rumor is just that, a rumor. I'll take Alexei over Cespedes every time.
  20. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) lol...hope we got a wide receiver at least for our LF vacancy. Roll Tide, is he doing laundry?
  21. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 06:18 PM) Some of you gentlemen continue to insist that there has to be an "extension on the table," in order for this potential trade to make sense for the Sox. Perhaps, I'm just not articulating the point clearly enough, or I'm simply mistaken, but I don't see such an extension as a benefit to the Sox, because that contract extension would be very expensive. Let me try to state it another way. At approximately $10 million, Samardjiza is a very cost effective #2 starter. At the estimated $20 million per season, with the long term risk, always associated with long term contracts for pitchers, he would not be cost effective, much less a bargain. The fact that he only has one year, fortunately makes it feasible to acquire him, without having to give up the farm. I see all of this as advantageous to the Sox. Take him for one year, let him walk, take the draft pick and the money, and go back to work in the next off season. In other words, I want him for one year, at $10 million. I don't want him for 4 years and $80 million. Doesn't that make sense? It all depends on what the Sox have to give up. If its a player like Anderson then absolutely not. Anderson is already better than some teams 2016 first round pick. Its possible Anderson is helping the Sox around the time his future trade pick is being drafter. I'll take Anderson over one year of Samardjiza. I see what you're saying Lillian. Its just a matter of who Oakland wants. I would not give up much for a one year rental.
  22. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) I wouldn't give up Anderson unless there is already an extension on the table....However Semien seems to be a guy who is behind Johnson long term at 2B, Lexi and then Anderson at SS, and he doesn't look like he can really hang at 3B. If they can somehow get Jeff for Semien as the main piece I'd have zero problem with them hypothetically trading Semien for what would be a top 40 pick. And that would be worst case. Best case they can extend him right away or they can continue talks throughout the year and extend him at some point without him hitting the open market Makes me wonder if Samardjiza is not considering an extension until after Scherzer and Lester have signed and reset the market price for starting pitchers. Samardjiza's price/value will likely go up accordingly. Or he's just hell bent on FA after the 2015 season.
  23. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) Don't you think that is an awful lot to offer? I much prefer Samardjiza, with no extension, for Semien and a lesser prospect, like Beck, or perhaps just Alexei. Montas could end up being Samardjiza's replacement, when he files for free agency, at the end of the season. I like Montas' potential upside as much as anyone but his walks in fall league were a bit more than expected from how he pitched in Winston and since he's only pitched 5 innings in AA so its really no guarantee he will be ready in 2016 as a starter. He needs time to develop his slider and change as well as his command. If the Sox are truly trying build a potential winner, Samardjiza certainly helps that cause now and for the years to come if he were to be extended while Montas would still be developing. Call me crazy but if I had to trade either Montas or Danish, I would chose to trade Montas. Danish throws strikes, induces ALOT of ground balls with wicked movement and the one I hope the Sox hold onto if possible. I'm really not a fan of the Sox trading for Shark and preferredthey did not. I do admit he would solidify the #3 for years to come with an extension. The Sox #1,2,3 would be set through the 2019 season with Rodon factoring in at some point and likely be the #4 tho he projects much better than a typical #4. Between Noesi, Bassitt, Beck and down the road... Danish, the #5 will sort itself out as well as the #6. Though I'm not a fan of trading for Samardjiza, I can understand why fans would want to.
  24. Also just want to point out that the A's #1 and #3 prospects are short stops and if the trade is indeed centered around Alexei and Samardjiza then I doubt very seriously Anderson is involved. That's assuming Alexei and Samardjiza are the only big names being talked about. A possible trade could look like Reddick, Samardjiza + extension for Alexei, Semien and Montas?
  25. I'm thinking a trade centered around Alexei and Samardjiza makes the most sense. Alexei buys at least one year for the A's #1 prospect Daniel Robertson (SS) to play a season at AAA in 2015. If Robertson performs well in 2015 then the A's can buy out Alexei after the 2015 season for 1M and if not the A's simply exercise Alexei's option for 2016 to buy Robertson more time at AAA. It gives Beane some options for now and the future. Just to make it more interesting. What is the price for Samardjiza if an extension can be worked out? What is the additional cost to the Sox if they want Reddick with Samardjiza or Reddick with Samardjiza + extension? Who knows, maybe these are the details being discussed. Even if nothing happens, the possibilities have been fun to think about.
