  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) It does if he's going to Atlanta. Still makes no sense in that it leaves the Sox still looking for another outfielder.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) I doubt the A's were shopping JS in the middle of a pennant race, after they just acquired him for the pennant race Good point. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) I'd prefer Upton to Shark too. Bare and Upton hitting 3-4 for 5+ years has me drooling. You ain't lyin! Please let it be Upton with an extension. I know its a pipe dream but whoa would that be a hell of a 3,4,5. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) Some dude on Twitter that I was told has sources with the A's is insisting that BOTH Alexei and Eaton are in this deal. Can anyone talk me off the ledge here? Trading Eaton for a 1 year rental? I don't buy it. The Sox trading Eaton makes no sense.
  3. I wonder if this is the potential three way the Sox were reportedly in on at the trade deadline. If I had to chose, gimme Upton with an extension over Samardjiza. I know Upton is less likely but a 3,4,5 of Abreu, LaRoche, Upton is pretty solid. One can dream right...
  4. I think the trade ends up being between Oakland and Atlanta. Maybe something like Upton and Gattis for Samardjiza, Reddick and minor league pitcher. Basically its Samardjiza for Upton is an exchange of one year rentals and then there's Gattis for Reddick +. Would love to have Reddick but dude is pretty bad against lefties so a right hand platoon partner would be needed. Bucket was not kidding when he said " moving parts ".
  5. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) Exactly Rooster. Jose F is their #1, and he will be back. They have a lot of SP talent, no one is sure how many actual MLB SPs they actually have beyond Jose. They aren't in love with Eovaldi, and pairing him with Salty for Viciedo/Semien/2 solid prospects could do it. Let's not pretend like the Marlins haven't made trades to save $, and that they haven't made some terrible trades, too. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Marlins have no need for Viciedo because they have Yelich, Ozuna, and Stanton in their OF. I don't know what it could take to get Eovaldi and Salty but one of Phegley/Flowers will be sent back the other way most likely. Also, I kind a feel like Noesi is better than Eovaldi. I would definitely want to do better than him to put in between Sale and Quintana. Sorry guys, I forgot about Yelich which pretty much takes Viciedo out of the equation unless the Marlins wanted to platoon him with Jones at 1B. Viciedo's 4M would make that rather expensive platoon so I'm not counting on it. Both Marlins back up catchers are right handed so I'm not really sure how interested in Phegley or Flowers they would be. 2B seems to be a hole but Sanchez or Semien is not enough alone. With the Marlins having plenty of young cheap pitching talent its hard to see them being interested in the likes of Beck or Bassitt. As much as I like Eovaldi's upside, its hard to see a match between the Marlins and the Sox. Screw it, trade them Danks!
  6. Eek. Just read Victorino had ham string issues and back surgery. I'm not so sure his value equals that of Danks. I think Boston would have to chip in a bit more. Here's a recent article... http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseba...der-for-red-sox
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 12:53 PM) he is their starting #1 pitcher, also, they have no need for DV, their outfield is already stacked. the price would be extremely too high to pay. I'm not so sure the Eovaldi is that high on the depth chart. Fernandez is definitely the #1 when he comes back but then the Marlins have Cosart, Alvarez and Koehler in their rotation with some good young arms in their minors. I'd guess this is why the Marlins are making Eovaldi available and also due to the pay raise Eovaldi is going to get in arbitration. I agree that Eovaldi won't come cheap but he also has not proven himself to be a front line pitcher yet so his value can only be so high. He has nasty stuff, just has not been able to put it all together yet and that's what should keep the asking price somewhat reasonable. Not that it means the Sox would/could/should trade for him. I'd love to take a chance but I really don't know what his value is or what the Marlins are looking for in a return. A RH power bat like Viciedo could intrigue them to be a part of the deal and it looks like they might be able to use a 2B so maybe Semien can be offered as well. Outside of that, the only other thing I can think of is if the Sox agreed to take on Salty's contract. Something like Salty/Eovaldi for Viciedo/Semien/? . Doubtful that's even close, just throwing it out there.
  8. I like the idea of Eovaldi, just not sure what it would take to get him. He's pretty nasty when he's on. Eovaldi is heading into his first arbitration year so that could be part of their motivation to put Eovaldi on the market.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 09:05 AM) Never misspell things when you are calling someone an IMBECILE Lol, now I'm the imbecile, Doh!!!!
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) It was a mechanics caused by injury thing: From Paul Hoyne , Northeast Ohio Media Broup. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________ In September of 2013, with the Indians driving toward a wild-card appearance, Masterson strained his left oblique muscle. He came back at the end of September and pitched out of the bullpen. In spring training this year Masterson's ribcage area was still tender, but he never told the Indians. He was the opening day starter, leader of the staff and trying to get a contract extension. Randy Rowley, Masterson's agent, said the injury caused a change in his mechanics, which led to soreness in his right knee. Masterson didn't talk to the media about his sore knee until late June. When he did, he said he'd been dealing with it since his second start of the season. In September, after the trade to St. Louis, Masterson had an MRI on his right shoulder and it showed an impingement. The Cardinals gave him a cortisone shot. Rowley said Masterson is finally healthy. If he is and he can pitch back to his 2014 form, the team that signs him will get a 30-year-old proven starter who until last season had pitched 180 or more innings in four straight seasons. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________ I am usually suspicious of injury stories after the fact because . Much like a lawyer, an agent trys to limit the perceived damage and spin it in a way that puts his client in a better light. "It was just a series of bad decisions guys based on how much I care about you all. It had nothing to do with I was headed towards free agency and had turned down a 3/$45M offer and was seeking $17M per year." Naive and team oriented is a lot better than greedy. All that being said, he might be the ideal candidate for a 1 year contract to re-establish value and re-enter free agency But he will not likely come cheap with so many teams inquiring on him. Expect somewhere around $10M for him. This just bolsters why I'm not interested. Better options are available. Now if Masterson was willing to work out of the pen for a reasonable price I could see it but I'd guess some team will take a chance on him as a starter. Thanks for posting this Cali.
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) I'm going to guess 7-10 mil for 1 year. OK thanks. For that money I'd rather spend a few more bucks for Volquez.
  12. Any idea what Masterson is going to cost?
  13. The Sox need a starter or two in the rotation so trading Sale makes no sense if they are going to make a serious run at contending in 2015.
  14. Found a somewhat interesting article at SI weighing the pros and con's of Montero and Flowers. http://southsideshowdown.com/2014/11/26/mi...hite-sox-radar/
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) 1) Victorino's 2013 season, where he was a key cog in Red Sox World Series victory 2) Veteran leader with tons of playoff experience...well respected like LaRoche 3) Checks all the Rowand/Erstad/Eaton qualities of gritty, heady and "baseball rat/dirtbag"...the OF version of Daryl from The Walking Dead 4) Would have to prove his health in one last drive for a final contract...motivated/incentivized 5) Would improve the defense (if healthy) 6) One way to get Danks' deal off the payroll, especially for 2016...payroll flexibility going forward You sir are on a roll! Love the Daryl reference. All great points. I'll gladly trade two years of Danks for one year of Victorino.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) That's about the most reasonable trade proposal involving Danks that I've seen so far. Initially I thought it was out there but it does make sense. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:55 PM) i thought you were there when they created cave art. I was, but that was a previous life. I actually taught the cave art class. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) Dear Phil Rogers: Please write a Danks for Victorino trade rumor article. You can also include Curtis Granderson and Chris Young if you like. Good stuff Caulfield! QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) classic stuff there. but would it be for Levine? Levine will write his rumor after he's read Roger's article. Lol.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) pls excuse this, but i was out of it for several yrs due to illness. can you explain this. was jeff use to trade for conor?? Yes indeed. Have a look at what he's been up to. He's been struggling I guess you could say... http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=soptic001jef
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) I'm totally game for Danks/Victorino. It does not seem to be too far out there of an idea as it appears it could be a match. Boston needs starting pitching and has a surplus of outfielders while the Sox would like to trade Danks and need an outfielder or two. Boston and Chicago have made trades in recent years so who knows? QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) DANG, who would've thought you had the ability to ask a great question. Yeah, sobriety and middle age is catching up to me quicker than I thought.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) i really doubt that AZL will go for that, he just won the ROY award. he is their fixture. nice try. Oops. I could live with Pollack or Peralta I suppose.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) crazy as it sounds, it just might work. question, would Bos do it. i like it. That would be the question my man. Boston needs pitching oh so badly it could be a realistic possibility.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) It's a gamble for both sides, which seems to make it close to fair. One could only imagine how many homers Danks would give up in Boston. Maybe a lot of the line drive homers at USCF would turn into singles and doubles because of the Green Monster. On the other hand, we can't afford to go through another season of using 4th/5th outfielders in starting roles if Victorino misses significant playing time. FWIW, I would be MUCH more afraid if the Pesky Pole was down the LF line and Danks was starting against a RH dominant line-up. But wasn't Danks actually more effective against lefties than righties? Would have to check the splits. According to the splits on the Sox site Danks was more effective against lefties, right handers hit him pretty good. Another problem with Victorino is judging by his splits, he seems more like a platoon player at this point. Hits left handers OK but not so much against right handers. Sox would have to find a left handed bat to platoon with Victorino in LF. I could tolerate one year of Victorino if it means two less years of Danks.
  22. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 07:08 PM) So which DBacks outfielder do we trade for this year? They have Tomas, Pollack, Trumbo, Ross, Inciarte, and my personal favorite David Peralta. If they can get Trumbo for super cheap he could be a solid platoon partner with LaRoche. By super cheap I mean a bunch of nobodies. I'd love to grab Inciarte with either of Pollack/Peralta being my second choice. Inciarte would look great batting #2 behind Eaton. Maybe the offer Flowers and Semien for Inciarte and Montero? I'm probably way off but you know what I mean. Something like that allows the Sox to use Phegley in the backup C role.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) not unless we really entice them as the dodgers are trying to entice the sox to take 1 of their outfielders. This could be a possibility. Some sort of Danks for Victorino swap might just make some crazy sense. I still prefer the Sox looked for a better option in LF but if it meant trading Danks I would not complain. A move like that actually saves the Sox 1.5M that can be added to the roughly 20M they have left to spend and maybe sign a starter like Volquez and another reliever or two. I don't know how possible that scnerio is, just throwing it out there as an example.
