  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 06:34 AM) like wow, very interesting reading, i didn't know that great find. i didn't know the sox were involve looking for that pitcher. wow, i wonder what it would take, like wow, i wonder if we can package a better group of prospects than the others teams. like wow. seriously, i know reporters have a real hard job, but i really find this really funny, if it is true, they would look on a forum for stories. Just typical Bruce Levine is all. All he does is regurgitate what already been written because, for some outlandish reason, people still read his garbage. Even bathroom stalls have the latest rumors written on them before Levine writes about them. Hmmmm, maybe that's where Levine gets his ideas from, s***ty ideas from the s***ter, who knew? An imbicile you are, Levine!
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) I would be excited with that 3-4-5. Would cost less too I'm sure as they would love to get rid of his contract (and we have room to take it). What do you think it would take to get Kemp, assuming we are willing to take on the full contract to give up lesser talent? I'm guessing a trade might look something like Alexei and Danks for Kemp and Van Slyke? Just a stab in the dark is all. If there was no exchange of money in the deal, the Sox end up with 3-4M more to spend this winter and that doesn't include saving another 4M from trading Tank or DFA him. The Sox could potentially end up with another 25-30M to spare after a deal like that and could be spent on adding another starter and reliever, possibly more depending on the cost of the starter. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:57 PM) I'm really hoping it's Kemp. Crawford/Eithier are good players but not something to get overly excited about. Kemp however would make me real excited. If he stays healthy he has a chance to play at an MVP level. Eaton-Semien-Abreu-Laroach-Kemp-Gillaspie-Garcia-Flowers-Sanchez/Johnson/Saladino (Assuming it takes Lexi+ to get him) would be pretty damn sexy. Esp. if Semien can finally figure it out at the big league level and starts getting on base more consistently. Damn sexy indeed!
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) That actually does make some sense, they seemed insistent on playing Saladino at SS a lot last year and he was doing ok there before injury. If they do move Alexei, they would need Tyler around as at least a guy to hold the position. Yeah, I wouldn't have thought much of it except for all the rumors swirling around a possible Alexei trade. Then the Saladino addition made more sense. I looked up Saladino and it looked like he improved his defense last year and was swinging a good bat before he went down for TJ. I'm just curious about how Saladino's throwing strength/accuracy will be. If the Sox are going to compete, they will need at least decent defense out of SS and up the middle as a whole.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) Yeah I'm pretty much grabbing straws here...I just can't think of any other impact players that could possible be coming here that are available. It could very well be Matt Kemp. I find it interesting that the Sox put Saladino on the 40 man roster considering they have Sanchez and Semien who are capable of playing SS. Put it this way. The thought of the Sox 3,4,5 hitters being Abreu, LaRoche, Kemp would be a good explanation for Kenny being excited. I know I would be excited. That's a potentially lethal combo right there, just absolutely deadly.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) We have gone after contract year guys before, but we had always heard that we demanded opportunity to negotiate an extension in advance. I'm trying to think whether we've ever really managed it before, though Sweaty Freddy Garcia is the only one I can think of to be honest. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) What about an extended deal where we get one of their young RH SP as well? (Teheran, Miller, Beachy, Medlen (though I think the last 2 are hurt to start the year) since they also have the lefties Minor and Wood in the rotation along with some prospects) Won't that cost the Sox even more prospects? I'm no baseball analyst or anything, I just can't see a matchup with the Braves.
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 7h7 hours ago CHW continue to listen to offers for Alexei Ramirez because of the presence of Tim Anderson, who reached AA in '14: Could explain why the Sox put Saladino on the 40 man roster. I guess if the Sox traded Alexei, they would use one of Sanchez/ Semien/ Saladino to keep SS warm until Anderson was ready. Also shows the Sox have confidence in Anderson remaining at SS. Sounds like Hahn is entertaining a bit of a bidding war for Alexei.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) Anyone think it could be for Justin Upton? Seeing as though he is available and would be a great addition to the middle of the lineup. What do you guys think it would take? Hawkins, one of Danish and Montas and a second baseman to replace La Stella (who was penciled in to start there but was traded)? The Sox are not the kind of team that pays heavily on one year rentals. I doubt very seriously the Sox are after Upton. Not trying to poo poo on the idea, it just doesn't seem very realistic.
  8. Screw waiting for the winter meetings. Use the damn cell phones and make the trade already!
  9. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) It would have to be Bruce, Cueto with a cheap extension, and Chapman in my book to get Q+. They could also throw in that catcher of theirs I suppose. The trade may sound ridiculous, but that's about where Q is value wise. I like that you're shooting for the stars man. To be honest, if I had Bruce, Cueto, Chapman + C ( guessing you mean Tucker Barnhart) ; I would not trade them for Q. If Jocketty went loco and offered up all four of them along with an extension for Cueto, I would drive Q to Cincinnati personally.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) totally unrelated to any discussions going on. the sox is fixing themselves quite nicely. nice quiet type of players, I think. but sometime the team needs a spark to get the team rolling. a fire cracker type of a player. a player who has a sort of an edge or attitude. I am wondering if Kemp can be that positive type of player. All depends on Kemp's outlook after being traded. Would he whimper and whine like a Lil b**** after being traded or would he see the positives of hitting in a lineup of Eaton, Alexei, Abreu, LaRoche, Kemp. He would be a damn blind fool if he does not see the potential there. The problem with taking on Kemp's salary is you can forget about signing a good solid RH pitcher for the rotation unless the Sox expand the current payroll expectations.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) crazy sox are giving up toooo much. I'm just trying to understand the Q+ part of what's been speculated. I wouldn't say its "crazy", I mean Bruce and Latos have solid value and its not like Sanchez or Semien have done mind boggling things in their debuts so I would say their value is rather limited til they take the next step. Q holds 99.99999% of the value in the trade. Edit: Forget Latos. Was thinking he had two years of control left but he does not and is a FA after 2015. That combined with his injury last year definitely hurts his value.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) that is the main point at least for me. the sox can deal with Conor and use that money somewhere else. esp if the sox are on a budget, they may be getting close to that upper limit allowed. Yeah, I think I'd rather see the Sox try to get a good LF with some pop and preferably left handed hitting. Would love me some Travis Snider in the White Sox LF. One potential platoon partner for LaRoche could be Van Slyke from the Dodgers. Dude rakes lefties, hits decent against righties, under team control through the 2018 season and could serve as a good solid fourth OF.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 07:53 AM) Trust me, I don't want to give Headley $14M to $15M a year, but that's likely what he'll get in this market. I really want Headley's defense on the White Sox but I'm starting to second guess the idea because of the potential salary and contract. Will Headley's bat and defense be worth the extra 13/14M per year? Im really doubting it. The Sox still have Gillaspie at league minimum for one more season before he starts his arbitration years in 2016. Gillaspie is just 27, might be worth the wait and see what kind of improvements he can make in 2015.
  14. I threw this out there in the predict the next move thread. I'm wondering if the possible trade could be Q + Semien or Sanchez for Bruce and Latos? As I said in the other thread, I'm not advocating trading Q. Just trying to understand the Q "+" bit.
  15. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 09:32 AM) Wily Mo Pena could platoon with LaRoche. This is not a bad idea if the price is right and as long as Pena knew he was only going to DH and bat against lefties.
  16. I'd have to say no. He's a 39 year old catcher and a right handed bat that didn't hit well last year. I'm guessing but I think the Sox are looking for a LH bat to backup Flowers. Unless the Sox acquire a guy like Grandal, then the backup bat changes.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 07:17 AM) that will be a great investment for the money. the only other way without sacrificing too much would be venture into the FA market and pick up a pitcher regardless of LH or RH. ~cough~ Lester. Funny you mention Lester. I was thinking earlier about the Q + for Bruce rumor. It could make some sense if the Sox got Bruce and Latos in a trade and then sign Lester to replace Q. A scenario like this makes some sense of the "+" part of the trade. Then were looking at Sale, Lester, Latos, Rodon, Noesi/Bassitt. I'm not advocating trading Q, just trying to understand the rumor and its potential moving parts. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) I think there are a lot of warning signs with him Until last year he was dreadful for about 5 years. Last year, he had his best career WHIP/ERA by far, yet his K rate was down. Not convinced he repeats 2014. I think your concerns are what hi8is was getting at when he said " gamble ". Completely understandable.
  18. Really nice things said about LaRoche by Nat's fans in the Washington Post article. Pretty cool.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:41 AM) That would be nice indeed.... But a gamble. There might be a better RHSP option for us in the cards. Yeah, he would be a gamble pitching at the cell. Do you have anyone in mind the Sox could possibly land via trade or FA?
  20. I think another possibility for the Sox next move could Edinson Volquez. He's right handed, can slot in as a #3, looking for a 2-3 year deal at around 9-10M annually. Would leave the Sox with money to spend elsewhere. If somehow Hahn was able to deal Danks, were looking at a rotation of Sale, Q, Volquez, Rodon and Noesi with Bassitt as the #6 long man in the pen. Not too shabby.
  21. Way to go Levine. Write another article about something fans already know about. f***ing coat-tail rider. What an imbicile.
  22. Keep in mind that Panda is going to raise the standard at 3B this year so its likely Headley won't sign until after Panda. I wouldn't be surprised to see Headley get 4/48-60M range.
  23. Very well done Balta! If Cincy wants to talk about Tank, Gillaspie, the Sox MI's or minor leaguers not named Anderson then fine but otherwise, I suggest they look to trade Bruce elsewhere.
  24. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) Next big move is OF IMO. I think we make a bold move. Trade for Matt Kemp. I have to admit, a 3,4,5 of Abreu, LaRoche, Kemp is pretty damn sexy!
  25. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) We do need a closer and if you are rebuilding as it appears the Reds are doing then 2 years of Chapman for the same AAV we just gave Duke seems good. Just have to figure out what it would take to land Chapman though the Reds could probably get a really decent haul for him. The Sox have more money to spare than minor league talent so FA would be the best place to grab a closer,IMO. Maybe the Sox are one of the teams that have an offer out to Miller? The Reds are looking for prospects, the Sox are still building their farm so its really not a match.
