I'm going with Melky as the next move.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 06:21 PM) for me, #1 I agree, however the baseball pro's may have other thoughts. #2 is just an extension of 1. #3 I think the sox brass knows there is a limited time of assembling a good team to compete. I trust them they have a pict and a game plan and I am sure they are following it. I agree about the value of Q, btw nice way of getting rid of a body without any traces. Thing is that Q's huge value lies not only in his stats but his age plus his long term control plus his cheap salary. Also, as another poster mentioned, Q has a higher WAR going for him. Q genuinely has higher value than Bruce. RE: body. Yeah I stole the idea from a man named BrickTop. Smart fella that Brick Top.

I am absolutely fine with this. I wonder if Tank ends up being the RHB of the platoon ( cringe ). I hope the Sox can sign Melky as well. Anyway, I like the signing and the beard! Sox sign Duke, claim Onelki Garcia ( yup, another Garcia!) and sign LaRoche. Been a good week in my opinion. Good job Mr.Hahn. Edit: just adding, FU Marlins! Haha.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 06:02 PM) let me ask this, but let me say this first. I do not want to trade Q. if the sox makes a trade for a prize piece of a missing part of a puzzle, the sox will need to make that trade. I don't know if Bruce is that piece or not. next the sox will of course continue to draft to replenish the system, that is understood. now I may have misread your intention on the bolded. I have three problems with trading Q for Bruce. 1- Q+ is the proposal and I don't care who says what, Bruce does not have Q's value so what is the deal with the Sox giving up Q+ for Bruce? 2- if the Sox are going to trade an insanely valuable asset like Q, why for a player coming off of his worst year ever as a major leaguer? Just dumb. 3- The Sox have but two reliable pitchers the rotation and trading one of them is lights years beyond moronic. May as well trade Sale and Abreu and have a top farm like the cubs/ BoSox and Cards. I'm not against trading any player but the trade has to be a smart trade and as I've said, Q+ for Bruce is an idiot trade. Hahn would be crucified and justly so. If in fact Cincy's GM asked for Q+ in return for Bruce, I would feed him to the pigs myself.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) The value Quintana brings to the table is insane both intrinsically and extrinsically. Frankly, I was struggling whether or not I'd deal him for Giancarlo Stanton 2-3 months ago and then Stanton went and signed a $325 million deal. I'm definitely not trading Quintana for him now, not when he's going to cost $300 million more. I remember that Wite and I'm with you on that. Only two things couldl get me on board with the idea of trading Q. 1- the Sox end up admitting they are going to continue to draft/ trade for and develope more talent for one more season thus likely not be contenders in 2015 ( I doubt they will anyway) and 2- it would have to be for a package of top prospects that were within a year of so of being MLB contributors. Guys like Seager, Pederson and possibly Urias, though I think Urias' talent is ahead of his arm endurance and will spend a few more seasons in the minors building up innings even though his stuff is just about MLB ready now according to things I've recently read. IMHO, trading Q for three years of Bruce who is coming off of his worst season as a MLB ball player is just a stupid dumb f***in idea man. I believe that in the business world you have to maintain good relations, speak well and carry yourself well but if Cincy's GM called me proposing Q + for Bruce, I would fly out to Cincy to cuss his ass out, whoop his rooty tooth candy ass, throw him into the back of my car and drop him off at a pig farm. And that's if I'm in a good mood.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Shelby Miller isn't anywhere near as good as Jose Quintana and, at their peaks, I'd say Heyward is slightly better than Bruce. Bruce is coming off the worst season of his career. Frankly, if it were up to me, and they said "we want Quintana," I'd hang up the phone. Plus the value of Q's dirt cheap contract that keeps him under team control through 2018 with team options on Q for 2019/2020. Its not Q+ for Bruce, its Bruce+ for Q or like you said, hang up the phone.
-
Anyone else thinking a potential three team deal between the Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Sox? Something involving Montero and Alexei somehow with the Dodgers giving up some top prospects?
-
Bruce is a good hitter and the Sox could surely use him but to be honest, if the Sox are actually considering trading Q then I would hope it would be for young core players. f*** it, call the Dodgers and tell them Alexei and Q for a package built around all three of Pederson, Urias and Seager. That said, just keep Q.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:53 PM) That would be okay for a cheap stopgap. Agreed. No doubt I'm sure we have other preferences in mind.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:43 PM) The only names I'm interested in if its for Q is in order Cueto, Latos, Frazier, Leake, added on with Bruce. I'm with ya. Bruce is a nice idea but to be honest, trading Q does not fix the problem of Danks, Noesi and ? as the back three of the rotation. The point would be to ADD a quality starter to Sale and Q, not trade Q. Its not as if the Sox are deep in starting pitching. On the other hand, I take this rumor with a grain of salt.
-
I'm not against scooping up Ike Davis if the Sox have a platoon in mind, sadly that probably means the platoon would be with Tank. No matter what it must be a platoon because Ike Davis CANNOT hit lefties and makes Gillaspie look good.
-
Q for Bruce? There had better be more coming back with Bruce and the name better not be Phillips either.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 02:44 AM) Such as....? There are lots of ideas throughout the forum.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) When reading that make sure you click the accompaning links for even more in depth knowledge. Based on his interview he thinks the artificial turf hurt him and if he truly believes that then a natural grass field like the Sox have would be ideal for him . I also think if the Sox kick the tires on him they should bring along Thome and Konerko as guys who can school Colby on staying even keeled and not letting the day to day grind or results weigh on him. Thome especially as a power and high K guy like Rasmus could be beneficial . If he performed well here I think he would become a fan favorite. Agree with everything you say here. I'm going to start clicking on the links and reading more about him since I believe he is a very realistic option. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) Rasmus strikes me more and more as a guy who isn't very mentally tough, is prone to pouting and excuse making, and doesn't respond well to adversity. There is always something wrong. So he's a younger and cheaper version of what the Dodgers have to offer. I like the idea of Rasmus even more now. At least over the options the Dodgers have to offer.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) here it is, and this will be my last negative opinion on him for several days. $15 per. on an unproven pitcher. is there going to be a posting fee? Edinson Volquez - 2 yrs, $18 mil Carlos Villanueva - 2/3 $7 mil per Ryan Vogelsong even him for 1 yr much better with a track record. Agreed, especially about Volquez. Volquez makes much more sense and won't require the long commitment that Maeda does. Plus, as you said, Volquez is MLB proven. Good call LDF.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/10/free...lby-rasmus.html Should answer every Rasmus question anyone needs to ask. I thank you again sir.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) Nope he's a freebie. Works for me. Isn't Rasmus projected to get something like 10M annually? Thought I had seen that somewhere but not sure.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) Rasmus can also play CF which we will need when Eaton runs into a fence that doesn't agree with him. We wouldn't need a LaRoche then and there's just no upside to LaRoche like there is for Rasmus . This is true. I'm not against the idea of signing Rasmus based on his potential upside and age. He does bring power from the left side no doubt. Rasmus will not cost a comp pick either will he?
-
1- Rodon will be ready when he shows he's ready and when that happens, that's when he will make his debut. 2- Definitely be open minded about Alexei. Don't give him away but don't covet him to the point to where he holds unrealistic value, which I think for at least some has already happened. 3- I like the idea of LaRoche but I like the idea of have having four starting outfielders rotating through the DH spot much much more. 4- I still say f*** no to Maeda. I just don't trust his long term durability. Spend that money elsewhere. 5- I like the idea of a veteran closer. Someone posted last night that Merkin of all people suggested Danks for Papelbon. f*** it, let's do it Philly!

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) Works for me . Try it again http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/101...-to-do-for-2015 Thank you sir. The link you posted popped up but the first one kept giving me an error. Weird.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) No faith in Avi Garcia? QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) He's thinking 4 good OF's so we can rotate 1 a day at DH instead of aquiring a DH. Getting Rasmus semi affordably would be an option since his defense is better than Avi or Melky's with hitting upside could work out and certainly his power is a major plus. They all get rested hopefully keeping them fresher by playing DH once a week. That's what I'm talking about!!!
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 10:00 AM) Agree, based on the scouting reports I have seen, he has the kind of stuff that will play down in MLB. I think we hold on to the money and roster spot until Shohei Otani is posted. http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...el-kenta-maeda/ You want to hold on to the money for five more years? Will that money at least gain some interest while the Sox wait for Otani to be posted? Anyway. Anyone know what's up with the link? I clicked it and it would appear the article is gone now. What were Rogers' suggestions?
-
Go get him Hahn! I really hope the Sox can land Melky. It will much easier on the eyes watching him play LF than Tank. Sign Melky and hopefully the Sox can pick up another starting corner outfielder via trade somehow. f*** it, let's get after Headley too.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 17s17 seconds ago dioner navarro seeks trade after martin signing. jays suggest dh-c combo but theres interest. http://cbsprt.co/1zGHAF8 Run Roh, scoobie doo to the rescue! The Sox could use a LH bat at catcher and Navarro won't cost what Castro or Grandal would cost. Though I still prefer Grandal over all of them.
