  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 10:07 PM) Let the Marlins have him. In the NL? He'll be a negative WAR player. Awful deal for the Marlines, might as well have thrown 30 million at Butler if that's what LaRoche gets. I don't mind the idea of LaRoche but think there's better options/ideas out there that should be explored first.
  2. QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 11:28 PM) Pure speculation on his end, but Merk spitballed Danks for Papelbon. I can't see Philly doing that, but I sure would. That's an interesting proposition. No doubt the Sox need a closer and Danks would benefit from pitching in the NL. I think Papelbon is overpaid but then again, so is Danks. I would not object to the trade if it were to happen.
  3. I realy don't see the objection here. Tank began his career as a 3B which he could not hack, then moved to RF which he could not hack and finally over to LF with the same result as the previous two. Without a position Tank needs to hit which is something else he's not been able to do outside of his power. Every year I hear fans claim that Tank will come around and yet we get the same crap over and over. To be honest, it sounds too much like cub fans with their " wait til next year" crap. If the Sox can trade Tank for Navarro then do it. Tank has become a bobblehead paper weight on the desk of the Chicago White Sox. If the Sox can move him for a player that can help the 2015 team, then it must be done. I don't see the problem with trading him when considering he's been speculated to be a DFA candidate.
  4. Yeah, Venters had his surgery last August.
  5. And the bidding starts with 2/20M. I think LaRoche ends up with more but someone has to make the first bid.
  6. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) There is - it's almost a perfect storm. 1) Toronto is crowded at catcher and the odd man out has an easily movable contract. 2) The Sox are a team that would benefit from having two catchers splitting time. 3) Toronto is losing an incumbent outfielder. But it's still predicated on somebody thinking Viciedo is not terrible, which I cannot imagine. It's like if I tried to speak Hungarian - my brain just can't make sense of it. Two of them actually. Melky and Rasmus.
  7. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 03:58 PM) I clarified the reason. If Toronto makes that trade, I promise I will eat my hat. I take you feel rather confident the Jays won't make a deal like that? QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) I am holding you to that one because there is a bit of logic behind that deal. Logic behind the deal of shysocks eating his hat or the Tank for Navarro swap?
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) It's #2 on my all-time comedy list right behind Airplane. NICE! I love the airplane movies! The Cannonball Run's were another favorite of mine. OK, before I get too caught up. Back to the boring idea of Sergio whateverthehellhisnameis.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) I'm alright, don't nobody worry 'bout me. I miss Ted Knight and Rodney. I'm going to have to pop in the DVD soon and watch it yet again. I'm surprised I haven't worn it out, I don't mind tellin' ya!
  10. Que the Kenny Loggins music...
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) I'm not very high on Tank, so I would do a Tank/Navarro swap. Same here. The nice thing about a move like that is it would only add 1M more to the payroll. This is based on Toronto having interest in Tank which, for some reason, I kinda doubt but who knows? QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 03:11 PM) I know. My point was if the org is planning to contend, but more if most everything goes right, then I wouldn't tie-up 5M in resources for a platoon and would instead invest more at bats into Flowers and his development (cause we have more potential long-term upside). If we think we are going to be legit contenders, then I think the $5M spent to have an effective catcher platoon would be valuable. OK, I follow you. Saving the 5M could go towards another reliever like Duke while sticking with Flowers. I'm actually fine with Flowers and will not complain if he's the primary catcher again in 2015. It would be nice to see the Sox get a quality left handed hitting backup. No offense to Nieto but he has more to learn yet. I like the idea of a Tank for Navarro swap but I'm not so sure the Jays would feel the same way.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) I think the Cubs already have a deal in place with Vlad Jr. No kidding? I missed that.
  13. If true, I suppose the Sox are look to spread their money out. Perhaps the Sox go after the Guerrero clan? Could mean the Sox already have deals in place so their money is already allocated. Suppose we will find out.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) the percentage of beer vendors that get Tommy John is very high 12 oz. curls can be a strain on the elbow if ya do enough of them. Switch hitting helps a lot with that though.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) If we intend on being very serious contenders, I think the move could be a beneficial one. If we are going to give it a conserted effort but more focused on long-term targets, then I think we are better served sticking with Flowers. I'm thinking more along the lines of a platoon with Flowers. Navarro hits right handers better so it could work.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) AA is a pretty good GM. He got a nice season out of Navarro for $3 million and now will deal him when he costs $5 million and his performance most likely will drop. I don't know if I want anyone named Navarro on the White Sox anymore. Nice! I think Navarro would platoon well with Flowers and should Flowers miss time, Navarro hits well from both sides of the plate.
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) Wouldn't mind having him, but wouldn't give up anything of value to get him. Agreed. I know 5M is a bit expensive for a platoon player but still a guy I would inquire about which I'm guessing Hahn has done. One idea that came up in another thread was seeing if Toronto would be interested in a Tank for Navarro swap since Toronto has a hole in the outfield.
  18. Now that Toronto has Martin, Navarro and Thole for catchers, its likely one of Navarro or Thole gets moved. Any Sox fans interested in Navarro? I think Navarro is the likely catcher to be moved since he's owed 5M going into 2015 so that would save some money for Toronto plus Thole catches for Dickey and his knuckler. Thoughts?
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 12:56 PM) Poll is back and hopefully easier to understand. Good deal. I voted for the middle option. Stay in the minors as a starter. I'm sure the Sox will call him up when hes ready and there's a hole so I'm not at all concerned with a time frame for his call up.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 2m2 minutes ago Billy Beane says he plans on Jeff Samardzija being ace of #Athletics staff next year Wait, Beane still wants to compete next year and is not going to trade Shark away? I'm shocked... There's a few Sox fans around here that will not be happy about this. There could be riots...
  21. I would start Carlos at Charlotte to have him work on pitch location as well as work on the change up some more. IMO, its important to build up innings in his arm in 2015 to have him ready to contribute in the rotation for a contending 2016 team so the bullpen is not an option. If he has to stay at Charlotte, fine with me, just keep him as a starter to build up the endurance.
  22. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) Lol hate to break the news to you, but you're expectations are really far removed from reality. You should just prepare yourself to be disappointed already. My sentiments exactly. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 09:15 AM) The White Sox have no reason to have to trade Alexei Ramirez. -They have publicly stated they are now looking to win this year (even if you don't believe it, which I don't think it is realistic). -Ramirez is under team control for up to two years at a HUGE bargain to what he would pull on the free agent market right now. My guess is he would be in the neighborhood of a 5/75 type deal if he were currently a FA. -The Sox have no payroll squeeze where they need to move the salary off of the books. If we don't get a big offer, there is literally no good reason to move Alexei. The only thing I can say that I have not said yet is if Alexei is traded, I'm going to have fun reading all the posts of people b****ing, whining and complaining about how Alexei was worth more and blah blah blah. I've said all I have to say without repeating myself which I'm done doing. We will see what happens...
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) Pick up Melky and trade for one of the Dodgers outfielders and have a rotating DH I absolutely love the idea of four starting outfielders rotating through the DH. Keep those legs fresh! Hell, I've even opened up to the idea of CarGo if the Rockies look to trade him and the price is right. If I had to choose from the Dodgers outfielders I think Crawford makes the most sense. I somehow doubt they look to trade Kemp and I think the Sox would rather go with Crawford over Ethier ( just a guess). I think Crawford would benefit from hitting in the DH spot and help maintain what speed he still has which the Sox can surely use. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) PED cheats: the new Market Inefficiency. I have no problem rooting for a known user because I can guarantee that we're already rooting for unknown users. But Melky is about as proven a hitter as there is - I largely blame injury for his rough 2013. He is obviously a fit for the Sox and could be the elusive guy to hit second. I wouldn't shy away from a 4-year deal. I am with ya. I would have no problem going 4 years with Cabrera. I'm just a bit concerned about the price being driven up by other teams in a bidding war. Cabrera just may end up costing 2 or 3M more per year than expected.
  24. Here's another way to look at it... Noah Snydergaard, ranked #10 over all by MLB. Corey Seager, ranked #13 over all by MLB. Julio Urias, ranked #14 over all by MLB. Jock Pederson, ranked #15 over all by MLB. Carlos Rodon, ranked #19 over all by MLB. Would anyone on this board be willing to trade Carlos Rodon for Alexei Ramirez? I know i sure as f*** would not so what makes people think Alexei should bring back a player ranked even higher? Its a ridiculous notion! Alexei does not have the perceived valued most think he has. Sorry, that's just the way it is. The Sox are by no means desperate to trade Alexei but if he's ever to be traded, now is the time. Going by the rumors the sox dont have to shop Alexei so as long as a team offers value ( not percieved fan value) then take it and move on as long as the return can at least help the 2016 team if not the 2015 team. With as many holes there are to fill I don't buy into the Sox contending in 2015 bs either. 2015 will be a year of making more progress and exposing what holes are left before the 2016 team emerges ready to contend. 2015 would be a great year to get Rodon and Bassitt acclimated to the MLB as well as increasing their IP so that hopefully in 2016 they can give the Sox 180+ IP. If indeed they have a future in the rotation.
